You know, for those people who can't afford top tier PCs, but have top tier 4k monitors. xD
You can find 4k monitors for 300 bucks now.
Yeah of course, but we're talking about gaming on 4k.
enticed2zeitgeist Yeah, and those monitors are gaming monitors.
Air stuff17
Yeah, what kind of GPU is in a $500 computer that can drive 8m+ pixels decently? No low tier computer that I've come across yet.
enticed2zeitgeist The fuck are you talking about? I just said that there are 4k monitors for 300 bucks now. Can you read?
this is the definition of quality content
Pewdiepie? plz Ikr, I freakin love his channel!!
I watch people like techsource, linus, austin evans but god damn this guy made a hell of a nice video.
CT gam3r Not to defend PewDiePie but his channel put out different content so..
Abitosh ??? "Pewdiepie? plz" it's his name, I wasn't talking about pewds himself ahah
CT gam3r Wut I don't see anyone with that username lol
Anything can be a 4k gaming pc if your expectations are low enough
The ashes of my dead cat, as well?
only if you water cool them...
No, mate.
TheBcoolGuy don't come crying to me when they overheat then... *badum tsshh*
I thought I made it clear that I'd already taken the joke as far as I'm okay with.
LinusTechTips: 4K for $15,000
This guy: this video
Personally, 1440p/144Hz > 4K/60Hz
Sir_Sethery Of course, DAH ! 1080p / 144hz OR 4k / 60hz. NOW thats the question !
1440p144>4k60>1080p144>1080p60
I guess it partly depends on the game.
144 master race
Anything(above 1080p) that goes beyond 60hz is welcomed.
he said "masher pro" exactly 202 times in this video
As many times as the $ony goons like Mark Cerny said 4K at the Pro reveal event
SaberLegend HOW MUCH FREE TIME DO YOU HAVE?!?
SaberLegend as soon as I read that, he said it again
SaberLegend you my man are a hero
Sage Sam i'm guessing he had 35 minutes free time..?
How the fuck do you only have 31k subsribers with such high quality content?
Holy shit.
Thanks for the kind words!
JERMgaming I am extremely glad RUclips put you in my recommended, your content is top notch. The transitions between games are really well done and the music is well picked. I plan to get a 1060 6gb myself, and It's amazing how well it seems to run.
Very informative, keep up the great work
JERMgaming first of all i realy like the idea of the pc and i have a similar pc with 4g ram and an lower rank gpu . can you add test of rust or ARK to your tast at 1080?
Because he hasnt sold out.
-Looks at price of PC
-Claims that it costs $500
-Looks at GPU
-Checks price of GPU in Australia
-costs around $400 AUD
-GPU costs almost as much as the claimed PC price in my country
-Laughs and Cries hysterically
That you have to rob a bank in order to get a PC in Australia. Consoles on the other hand are the same price as they are in the US.
***** and how much does the 4K PC cost in AUD?
NFINWIFN I don't think you get it. what he's saying is PC parts are simply more expensive in AUS. Not because of the exchange rate, just in general. What you can find easily in the US for 100USD can easily cost $350 USD in AUS.
You people think that's bad, it's worse in New Zealand.
where i live is the inverse, console prices cost over 1k dollars sometimes while pc is pretty cheap.
the main thing is PS4 pro unfortunately will not support all games and most will run like a regular PS4 game. this GPU will improve performance on EVERY game.
YourPalHDee every game that is coming out from now on will have a pro mode. What you are saying is about older games on ps4.
is that true? where did you read that? I haven't heard about that at all.
Sony announced it. Every new game coming out on ps4 have to have ps4 pro support. But in most cases its just simple upping the resolution to 1440-1800p and than either up scaling to 4k or downsampling to 1080p. Only few games so far have actual effort put in their pro patches. Last of us remaster and rise of the tomb raider are examples of good pro patches. Shame sony locked pro power and made it preform like standard ps4 if there are no patches its only sony decision if it didnt pro could easilly brute force more preformance than ps4 in unpatched games.
Edit: I'm wrong see below.
Original:
Arguably this is incorrect.
Every ps4 game will benefit, not in graphics quality, but in framerate. Not all games on the ps4 run without dropping frames. The pro may not get any extra graphical bells and whistles, but every game will be less likely to drop frames.
Note: for the games that didn't drop frames _at all_ the benefit will be in lower fan speeds or lower console temps. Not particuarly useful! Don't misunderstand me! But there are very few games that are actually locked at their target framerate to the point where they never ever drop frames.
You are right that the extra performance won't increase visual fidelity unless the games actually bother to release a patch. But smoothness is a factor of available processing power, and the pro has more, therefore it will be closer to the target framerate. (Which for Console is *typically* 30 frames per second)
If there is no patch for a ps4 game out before the ps4 pro, you will not see any benefit. Graphics, fps and any other changes.
The results are very interesting but whilst watching this video i came to a realization "The editing is gorgeous and very well done, how does he not have more subs!" Seriously man these video's are done very well! good job!
Thanks for watching!
Bonker Clonker i so agree
But can it run Google Chrome??
I Fucked Tiffany Trump I'd say at 30 fps
my ps vita is better than this shit lol
I Fucked Tiffany Trump You should stick to internet explorer
InfiniteCrisisHD internet explorer is 31 FPS
My friend you have asked the wrong question. For true enlighten one must ask can if it run Safari 5
Want to know why pc always wins. You dont need a subscription to go online
hows the antivirus subscription working out for you tho...lol
Gino hold on, avira antivirus has a free version. I used it for 3 years on laptop. Never failed me and even did it's job. I remember playing Command and conquer renegade and a pop up said a hacker intrusion attempt detected and killed the game and saved me.
@@eugenebarragan176 NICE BUUUURN!! Except you can get anti-virus protection for free. Anti-virus came with my current PC. Had it for over 3-4 years now. Not a single virus. Nice try though.
How's paying to go online on consoles? Can't feel beneficial when you know it's free and far more superior on the PC platform.
@@eugenebarragan176 or for people on windows 10 which is probably 90% of people, it has built in antivirus which works great actually not to mention you're only gonna get a virus if you go to weird websites and download unsafe stuff I personally have never gotten a virus from normal use
I'd rather spend 5$ a month than 5000 on the console itself
I still demand royalties on the Potato Masher name! Adding "Pro" to the end won't save you from my hordes of lawyers!
EvilViking13 I second this
I watch ur all time time Dave in casualshenanigans podcasts and techtalk u do , keep up the good work man, u guys got great hemistry there ;)
This guy does a really good job with comparing and analyzing games, from this and Digital Foundry, it's the best source of seeing how games compare from PC to console, in fact, they should hire you with how well of a job you do.
***** You could be right, but what a team it would be, this guy, Richard and John from Digital Foundery, wouldn't need to look anywhere else for my comparisons.
Steven Rose I'm just grateful that the myth about the PC being expensive is being broken, too much misinformation goes around from console gamers about the PC which a lot of which is outdated information and as we know, building a PC to play compete with the consoles is doable for similar price or just a bit more and the the running cost are much less so overall the PC works out cheaper depending how you use it.
why did the console player cross the road ???
to render more buildings😅
Ali0The0King it's actually to render the used PC store
I just found your channel through this video ,and I must say I am really happy I did . your video really shows how much work you put in it . and this is my first time I watch a long pc-hardware video ,and I enjoyed every pits of it . keep up the good work budd :D
I'm going to be gone most of this week for Thanksgiving, but enjoy the Potato Masher Pro and I'll be back at it next week!
JERMgaming I just bought an rx480 for 170$ with a free civ 6 code. Basically payed 110$ for it when you take out the civ 6 cost. Have a good platform right now with a 6700k and 16gb of ddr4. Gonna upgrade in the future to a 1080. That 480 was more than worth it
Hey Jerm enjoy the time off but I was just looking for your opinion on something. I was thinking of upgrading to a 1440p monitor because my r9 390s doing quite well with that resolution i get about 75 fps on BF1. But I'd lose my 144hz capabilities and free sync. Do you think it'd be worth it?. I look forward to more Pm Pro vids keep up the good work.
Maiky shhh.... some people don't know that they are yet...
meehhhe Of You Lol.
That's an awesome deal, great job!
i'm here before this goes viral again! under 300 views atm :)
MrPanggs me too
MrPanggs It's happening. Popped into my recommended list just now, never heard of this youtuber before.
Same, this is going to blow up. 10,709 views now, hopefully this will be at 100,000 in a week or so
this youtuber is great
180k now
1440p at 144hz is prob gonna be good for me for a while i dont see 4k being easily ran until next year.
I mean, many people are going to stick with 1080p for a long time. With lower resolutions than 4K, higher resolutions have almost always meant more real-estate, because it was all at 100% scaling. Now, with 4K, though, I have 125% scaling on a 28" monitor, and everything is very small. My vision is quite good for nearby objects, but I have to sit properly (enough) at my desk to see everything alright.
This scaling means that having higher resolutions will be less important, as it will only increase the graphical fidelity of icons, sprites, and assets in general. It won't be too much to fit on a 1080p screen. I mean, we can only see so much detail.
I would definitely not recommend upgrading from 1440p, especially an expensive 1440p monitor, now, or for quite a while. 4K is still quite new and unnecessary, though very cool. There will be 5K, 6K, and 8K monitors, or at least TVs, when it comes to that last one. They won't be very useful, though. You might as well just get a 4K monitor, so long as this type of display is what's used. Stick to 1440p until your monitor breaks, or something like that. If you've invested much in sub-4K, you need to savour your investment. 4K will be as cheap as 1080p has been for years now, in only a few years. Somewhere around the beginning of the new decade. These panels will be much better than even more expensive panels that are sold now, too. 1440p looks great. At least, if you haven't seen 4K. ;P
The 1440p/144Hz combo is pretty much the best for gaming in my opinion, esp. for FPS', racing games, flight sims, anything competitive. Even 1080p/144Hz is good, but has to be at least 120Hz for me. I can't game on a lesser refresh rate anymore, hurts my eyes and gives me headaches.
SoadAddict91 Well, given that you now games on a 144Hz monitor, how much do you actually game on a 60Hz one, honestly? I don't think that headache thing is based in reality. We can see a difference between 60FPS and 144, but 144Hz is way past the line of diminishing returns for the eyes. Really, 60Hz is plenty. Below that isn't very good, but I'd never want to use a 1440p monitor. That's so low-res now. 4K 60Hz>1440p 144Hz.
TheBcoolGuy Everybody sees things differently and I have seen examples of people easily differentiating 120Hz or higher from 60Hz. 4k is awesome when it comes to graphical fidelity in terms of resolution, but I'll wait until an affordable 4k/144Hz option becomes available.
@@TheBcoolGuy Even in 2020 😁 I bought 1440p screen year ago, and I have good one 144Hz IPS... And not going to change for few years... Now with my RTX 2070 Super it works perfect! 1060 6gb was a bit weak...
This was one of the most comprehensive videos regarding video card performance I have ever seen. Please continue making these
Will-do!
It's time boys and girls.
Simpleton for what?
-FOR SEX!
I think you done well choosing 6GB version of GTX 1060, the games are becoming hungry for VRAM!
2 gb of ram isnt a lot...
The other model only has 3GB which is definitely not enough for ultra settings in most recently released titles.
Yeah. The 3GB version is a sham. That's really only good for 1080p, and just barely. I think GTA V used more than that at 1080p, without maxing out the settings. I have 8GB of vRAM, and I think that that will be the standard in 2017, as 2GB was in 2012 and 2013. I'll upgrade soon enough. 4K is very motivating. :P
It's not meant to be. That's why it's about $50 cheaper
this is one of the most comprehensive breakdowns on the subject I've seen in quite some time. Great job staying unbiased and presenting a fair comparison.
This is a really good video dude... Actual side by side comparisons and meaningful information.
The biggest disappointment I have with the PS4 Pro (and it seems a lot of others do too) is that it really isn't a 60 fps machine outside of a select few cases. I know Sony was kind of handcuffed with their CPU choice (I assume it's the same as the base PS4 for compatibility reasons), and 1440p-4k at 30 fps isn't a bad way to go for budget hardware like a console. Still, 60 fps or higher is the defining factor for a premium gaming experience in my opinion, and very few people currently have the displays necessary to take advantage of 4k & HDR; the latter is also plagued by horrible input lag in all but the most expensive displays. This sort of thing will get better over time, but the PC wins on this reason alone in my book.
Expecting 4k 60 from console is just unreasonable
TheTurtleOffDoom I was more hinting at 1080p60. If they could've pulled that off, it would have been way more beneficial of an upgrade.
Yup man u are on the money here.
Jaguar notebook cpu used in ps4pro has many advantages, its small, cheap to
produce, very power efficient(around 10TDP compared to 95 TDP of high end intel
i5/i7 cpu's) easy to keep cool and silent, it just has one major flaw- its
extremly fucking slow ¯\(ツ)/¯
DrearierSpider1 1080p 60 probably was not possible due to the crappy cpu. At witcher 3 it would have probably choked the performance to 50s or some other cpu hard games
TheTurtleOffDoom That's exactly what I said in my original post.
Can you remake this with parts still sold in 2019
Dude very well made video, and I like how you actually explained as many different gaming scenarios as possible within a reasonable time. Really put a lot of perspective as to the different target audiences of each machine.
See, these are the kind of videos that deserve subs. High quality over high volume. Videos that are in depth and non-biased. You got a sub bro.
Thank you!
The way you explain everything screams quality dude! greatjob!
Thanks for watching!
I can't even watch RUclips at 144p without freezing. My internet is so bad. It's been 2 hours but finally I finished the video. Keep up the good work! ;)
i see dedication and u remind me of my old self with a nokia and 2g internet
Thank you! I'm glad I didn't have to upload the video on your internet ;-)
haha do bf1 plsss
The way you present your information is top notch. I get use to having RUclipsrs dumb things down or ramble on about irrelevant details. Your editing and presentation is up there with Digital Foundry, and with this video I feel like it's even better. Keep up the good work, you've got yourself a sub.
This video came up in search for me, your first couple min pulled me in with your honest take. The next few min made me a subscriber. Keep up the good content! I hope mine will be just as compelling as I go.
Thanks for the kind words!
Not a problem!
Potato Masher Pro has my GPU (not G1 Gaming tho). I'm so gonna love this series!!
It's a great GPU!
JERMgaming dude, that CPU is defiantly holding you back. I suggest getting the i7-9xx for the LGA1156 board used in that built.
I've finished Doom this weekend but didn't know it supported RTSS overlay so I didn't know how much of the GPU it was using. I'm amazed by how low the usage was across the campaign.
***** The i7-9xx supports LGA 1366 not 1156, please correct me if I'm wrong. I have an i7-870 on my 1156 board and I think it's as far as it goes. Also the purpose of the series is to keep the money spent on the masher as close as possible to what's spent on the PS4(Pro)...
Michel Victor you maybe right, I'm not entirely familiar with older intel platforms. But my point was more about getting the highest end CPU for the socket that could be reasonably achieved... Open world games as been stated, do tax the hell out of CPUs, even moderns ones. Also his choice of GPUs, I'm personally has had bad luck with Gigabyte Gaming G1 graphics cards. Nothing against GTX1060 its self other then it being just another Nvidia card and I would liked to see a change... I recently built a $450 console masher for a friend, using an old Dell with a old haswell i7-4770T (low power), 8GB 1600Mhz low profile Samsung DDR3, and a reference design RX480 8GB I snagged used at a local PC repair shot for $190. The Dell included everything needed: 300watt supply, 500GB HDD, 8GB Ram, i7-4770T, windows 10 version 1607, and sleek industrial case for $175 eBay.. Add in used $190 RX480 8GB reference from MSI.. total comes to $365... needless to say my friend is very happy. And it mashed the potato masher pro if his numbers are correct. Even if I got the GPU new $250, adding shipping for the Dell off eBay ($200 total for the dell) comes to around $450, all in. If your budget was $500, that is a PC, and a brand new games or several slightly older games...
But I have seen amazing deals on eBay used market for GPUs and CPUs. I spotted a R9-390 for $150, I seen a Fury for $200. For CPUs i seen things from Xeons and I-series CPUs used selling for dirt cheap, sometimes cheaper with a used system like in the case of my friends Dell I got him $175 for him not just a high end hard to find CPU, but also included essentially an entire system.. which ini used a shitty evga GT710 for video out..that I am curious if I can use it for anything maybe video encoding/capture with OBS or something...
I've been waiting for the 4K MASTER BLASTER!!!
Thank you alot for the spirit you share at the beginning of this video. Light me up in these dark days when i get deeper into my work after years of learning and working. Thought i'm not a pc technical guy. Wish the best for your dream and love in life.
I've been a fan since day 1. Awesome to see that video view counter rising. Good job on the video, man.
Thanks for your support!
I'm probably going to sell my PS3 and PS4 to build a PC. I already have my pc parts picked out depending on how much money I'll have, but in the end I'll be able to push out high to ultra setting on it :D plus I got some money saved up.
Kiro RotMG what's ur budget?
slimduck 10 cents
Road to the 10 cent 4K build
slimduck 500$ but I already have everything pickled out, I'm going to order the parts after Christmas
I actually have a really good $500 build. i5-6400, GTX 1050 Ti, 16GB RAM. Best for $500 imo.
pcpartpicker.com/list/thGLFd
Isn't that old i5 bottlenecking the 1060 in many slightly more cpu intensive titles?
Likely so, but we'll see!
JERMgaming
nice video though :D
I have a ridiculously overkill system but watched this video anyway. It was calming, and very well made.
The most professional, non-biased, and creative content I've ever seen on this website
if you're going to do this build in 2017, like he said lga1366 motherboards are extremely expensive now. so you're better off getting an i5 2400 cpu which is faster than the old i7 in this build by a large margin and more robust. the cpu cost around $60 and motherboards can be had for around $40 in some cases.
This isn't an lga 1366 platform. It's lga 1156
Thanksssssss man, really love these specs :)
I was going to spend 600€ because for i5 6400 and 1060 3gb.
Should go with an i5 6500 because it is more bang for buck.
I also dont really like 1060 3gb id rather go 4gb 480.
go for a 6 gb model
Oltási Bennó 6gb model is to much of a price bump imo
even ur i5 6400 and 3gb 1060 is vastly superion to ps4pro man, u will enjoy it.
Good Cpu and Gpu choice but better go for the 1060 6gb model or a Rx480 with 4 or 8gb
The 1060 with 3gb has less cuda cores and in some games you will be limitated by the memory
This was one of the most informative and intelligent videos I have watched in a long time. Good job!
Wow...
I love how unbiased you are when it comes to this stuff, and I found myself very interested in this.
Good job!
>praises pc for it's controls >plays doom with controller
Voidition But PC is about doing what you want
yes its PC is about freedom of couse, and he made use of it. So whats your point then?
Voidition how else would you play doom
The "P" in PC stands for personal.
He does it because fast movements with mouse would make it look yanky on video. Using a controller makes it look smoother for RUclips.
You almost sold me on that GTX 1060 6gb card man lol. Trying real hard to wait until next year to upgrade.
Minmataro718 depends what you are looking for. If you want 4K gaming at ultra settings you'll need a gtx 1080 but if you want to game at high settings get a gtx 1070. In my opinion I wouldn't get a 1060 but if you really cannot spare that extra money for a gtx 1070 then go ahead but I'd recommend the 1070
Babar Rashid I think 4k native, ultra 60fps is a pipe dream until we see the 1100 series cards from Nvidia in a a year or so. I dont think AMDs Vega will be up to snuff either.
the 1060 is a pretty impressive card i have one with an i7 4770k and can get 60fps avg at 1440p in battlefield 1
A 1080 isn't nearly capable of ultra 4k 60 fps in demanding games. A titan xp is almost. But yeah if you want 4k wait til the 1180 comes out. That will push 4k at ultra 60 fps.
Air stuff17 Disable the AA. it isnt needed in 4k anyway. there Ultra with no AA = 60fps.
You deserve many more subs. It's amazing seeing that you put so much work into your videos, it makes me happy. :)
Very genuine and persuasive, I really hope the big companies like Sony can be like you!
Sweet, I was hoping for a late 2016 update and wondering if it could match the iterative consoles.
The impressive thing about the original was the long term tests, people thought optimizing for consoles would make the old potato masher fall away, but it held up almost exactly to them through its entire run. Hope he keeps posting updates with both.
Yeah it was nice to see being put an end to the "You need to upgrade your PC every year to keep up" argument.
Nice. It appears there's not much CPU bottleneck on the Masher Pro, unlike the PS4 Pro.
Ed Turvey shot fired.
Nicely done man . Great job . Dude on Quora said give you a watch . Glad I did .
You deserve well over 10x the subs you have now. This is the amazing content I love watching on RUclips. Great work!
This is an excellent video, well done! Any luck with Avermedia and the 4K capture card?
No, unfortunately. Never heard back.
JERMgaming Oh that sucks, by the way do you have any plans to switch to Adobe Premiere Pro as an editing software?
I use Premiere for all my regular work, but for RUclips Vegas is faster (except when it comes to rendering). Simple transitions and other effects are much quicker in Vegas, and I use a lot of them. I'm sure I could switch to Premiere, but so far I haven't felt the need.
I don't love the results I get with Vegas, no argument there. The MainConcept codec is the only one that can balance respectable render times with a high enough bitrate for good 1440p or 4K uploads (in Vegas). I haven't messed with HEVC/h265 yet, to be fair.
I'm always down to learn something new, and I've been experimenting with YT's compression for a few years. Send me an email if you don't mind, so I can flag it. If it's comments, I might lose it in the crowd. At your convenience, of course!
JERMgaming Sending an email your way now buddy :)
+JERMgaming i spend about 350 bucks (36 + 135 + 133+15+some change) on my main rig , it features an I7 2600 , 8gb of 1600mhz DDR3 and a R9 290 4gb and has a SSD to boot of , im pretty shure that thing can smash the PS4Pro , what do you think?
holy faack and here iam with a 600$ fucking core i3 with a 950 and no ssd
Cannot smash the PS4 Pro but it's pretty similar. R9 290 is similar to a GTX 680-780
actually beats the 780 and 970
Rogerice1 similar as a 680-780? LOL! 290 / 290x = gtx 970 and so GTX 1060 is a little better.
CasualGamer117 Da hell ya sayin? R9 390X is on a level with GTX 970, how a 290 would be even close? Go see some benchmarks
Great in depth review! Stayed here for the whole video (and that says a lot coming from me). You earned a new subscriber, keep up the AMAZING work!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Good information, excellent pacing and extremely well edited. Well done sir, well done!
Great concept, i just think i5 750 is not the best performance per dollar... I would bet overclocked Xeon "e" or "x"5450 would be maybe even better, for just 15-20$ and 775 mobos are steal these days (=
Aleksandar Friscic People have realized their value now, and are scalping.
Mad Jack Churchill
Oh, i cought last train :D But on ali express i think still have in stock
please tell me exactly what to buy as soon as possible!
Ismael Peña
Buy Intel xeon e or x5450 (try finding already modded one, so you dont have to mod it yourself or even worst, mobo)
And find Mobo with 775 socket and one of the following chipsets:
P35
G41
P45
650i
780i
*The best way is to find mobo first and then check the chipset, not the other way around...

AND IM HERE WTH A GT 610
LOL WITH PENTIUM G3220 3GH AND 8GB RAM
Ayyy Pentium squad!!
zZZ ZETA ZZz My grandparents own a better PC than your configuration.
Marcin Szostak lol mate
video says 500 $ budget pc and I say I will make a budget pc JUST GIVE ME 500$
Keandre Palmer what's your pc specs bruh
zZZ ZETA ZZz
Pentium G4400
Zotac Gtx 1060
16 GB of RAM
Everything else is kinda redundant to know lol
so. I was looking into building my own PC that is close to the potato masher. but with a few minor upgrades, but nothing close to the potato masher pro. is the potato masher still a good build in early 2017?
i just watched a 30 minutes video and godamn this is a quality cintent ...subed and liked now waiting for new videos
why the pc destroys the ps4:
on a pc you can do not only gaming but also a lot of other stuff like text editing, cutting videos, webbrowsing etc.
M4D AL3X yeah, people need pcs for actual work
PC's can be used to design consoles. Not the other way around, haha.
SoadAddict91 consoles are well idk
SuperFan97
Wow, you are so smart
Pcs beat consoles without that. Price alone kicks there ass. I bought 6 games on sale steam for $12.
On console that would cost $360. Console starting price is good but you really get screwed over time.
over here on OCUK they have an XFX R9 Fury for £230.
luckyshottzZZ that's nuts
I wish there was a 6GB or 8GB variant so badly...!
luckyshottzZZ DO NOT buy r9 furys
romanian scammer why?
You just earned a subscriber... very unbiased and very clear. Need more tech tubers like this!
Thanks!
First quality PC build video I've seen in a while.
Well it will age worse with that 1060, but even so it will Rek consoles (kinda like how 760 was 10% faster than 270X but is now up 10-15% slower... but STILL beats the console, even with inferior support).
:P
So I support. Alex approves. Time to see how the Masher beats the PS4 Pro...
Thanks for your approval :-)
Potato Masher Pro just shit all over every future console upgrade in the current generation with that GPU upgarde, JERM :P So happy you went with that card for the PM PRO
Really great and interesting video. It's amazing what a simple gpu upgrade can do on such a system. Not to mention all the tricks you can do to get your preferred quality/fps in these games.
hey JERMgaming ! I'd like to know if you know how to know (ya i know...) if your computer's RAM is bottlenecking your GPU ? and is it possible for windows 7 64bit to bottleneck a game directly ? thanks :)
I've seen used and new r9 Furys going for around that budget. Would have been cool to see those in this
John Smith www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202186&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
230-260 on newegg and amazon
John Smith he had 260 to spend but found a card for 230. if you're that cheap that you say $30 more is too much, that's ridiculous. That's a great card for the money
John Smith Their driver support isn't shit anymore. The past year has had amazing driver support from AMD. Also, you are comparing a card that's made for 1080p gaming against a card that throws punches with the 980ti which can't run on a 430w psu either
John Smith You had no point. You started talking about how AMD drivers are shit and they consume too much power. The Fury is much better than the 1060 so of course it will consume more power. Again you had no point.
A Fury would be a disaster if you paired it with this particular build lol. If you had a higher capacity psu and a better cpu then maybe. Honestly for most people building/upgrading a budget system a 470/480/1060 would be the better buy, even if they're losing a little bit of performance.
Haha I found my old Atari in the attic last year. Too bad it was up there for about 30 years.
Ay, i wanted to ask a question, since you have a lot of knowledge.
So, i have This "beast" (Acer Aspire TC-120 www.notebooksbilliger.de/acer+aspire+tc+120+amd+a+serie+apu+a10+7800 ), which i (i know it was stupid) bought for around 300 bucks.
Thing is, is, i dont know anything, or atleast not a lot, about PC building and stuff and thats why i wanted to ask what i should buy to play games at an enjoyable level.
Im currently playing Things like league which runs perfect but i also want to play stuff like Battlefield or Overwatch.
Do you think i should just swap my AMD R7-240 for a better graphics card? And which one?
Thanks for a beautiful, in depth video! Awesome quality!
I would of liked to see a cpu upgrade as well, something like an i7 860 would of been nice since I see alot of bottlenecking. I7's are starting to actually benefit gaming with games like gears of war 4 and battlefield one being great examples.
masher pro is simply ps4pro killer man, it still has about twice as fast cpu even w/o upgrading to i7.
6utS true but that gpu usage irks me since I know 8 threads would help a lot.
No it wouldn't, most games these days don't use more than 4 cores/threads.
Yocool13's Channel just no go look up i5 750 vs i7
***** Nope, you're completely wrong, most games these days dont use more than 4cores/threads, the i7 would be better because it is higher clocked.
Jerm can ya make a guide how to optimize your pc and games?
yes pls
JustRefleX
OperationGames45 Nice reply!
It all depends on particular game and resolution/fps target u wanna play at. developer.x-plane.com/2007/04/cpu-or-gpu/ here some old site but its still very helpfull, it gives heaps of info what game settings is cpu and what gpu intensive.
JustRefleX hey bud tech yes city has a windows 10 tweak guide. there are also some win 7 tweak guides on you tube for gamers. Don't use gforce experience always use ddu display driver uninstaller to uninstall drivers. Always perform clean installation of graphics drivers.
I can tell you took some sweet time making this video. This is dedication!
Thanks!
dope video especially, since I want to start building my first gaming pc
300 dollar i7 refurbished pc + 220 dollar 8 GB MSI RX 470 = 4k(at medium settings) under 550 dollars . In conclusion check amazon. If a turd could run 4k gaming id stick an hdmi cable into it and put in a card board box.
Really the 8GB MSI RX 470 could turn any system, with a 300 watt psu, an 8 thread cpu and, 8GB of fast ram, into a 4k rig. For potentially less than 800 dollars one could build a cross fire system with this gpu and rock 4k!!! 500 watt
Better have damn good cooling though. Check the gpu out at newegg.com
The RX 470 is on about the same level as a 270x, at most. Perhaps a 280. Yes, you can play at 4K with that, but barely. My 390 feels weak at 4K. I can't imagine playing on the setup you suggested, even at 1080p.
i like how you explain in many different ways that youre not against console
because idiots need more explaining than once
What parts would you recommend as alternatives for late 2017? A lot of the ones listed are hard to find ;-;
Hey dude, thinking about getting this as my first gaming pc but I can't seem to find a cooler master wavemaster case anywhere. I'm thinking about picking up the cooler master masterbox lite 3.1, will that work?
What how. I just spent £2000 on a 4K rig lol.
How the fuck you get a 1060 for $230, in the UK it's at least £250 ($311).
England is shit.
Jared Peretti uk has better cars for cheaper i think its fair
Jared Peretti a 1060 is £230 in the UK u tard....
Faynts you didnt read carefully what he put did you? Then you want to call people tards....
Dimension Jester But gasoline is 3x as expensive lol.
got same 1060 off jet.com for 197 with promo code
i cant believe it man. damnnn, what a test! maybe ill build this one but with some improves... lol, thanks man
Man I rate you so high for this video. Your honesty an fairness is just respectable.
I call bullshit on the PS4 Pro having similar performance to the GTX 1060.
The 1060 is more powerful, but that only helps in games that let you take advantage of it.
JERMgaming
I meant that I can't and won't believe that the PS4 Pro has such a powerful GPU.
Ok....but we know what hardware is in it, regardless of whether or not you believe it.
JERMgaming
how can you be sure?
It is. Developers aren't using the GPU well in the PS4 Pro, since consoles games require other type of optimisation.
Great to see another small channel such as mine catering to those who can't afford the latest and greatest. Great video and concept.
love you slash
KennaKenna Love you more
Well that escelated quickly.
just gotta add "just like mine" dont you?
5supermario aka CharaVEVO Yeah, it's very relatable, as well as inspiring, to see someone making content like this.
can someone send me a link where every part is listened? (website with prices) Because looked for it for quite a while and i get 700$ with those parts. And i can´t find every part of them. Some websites say that there is nothing that is named like that.
Really good quality video Jerm ... gotta say I'm really impressed with that ps4 pro !!
I hope that's all you're using it for. 8gb is gonna be abysmal on virtual machine running Win10. But, if you ONLY use it for gaming, cool build.
Running a virtual machine isn't quite a mainstream necessity. That said, I've run plenty of VMs on 4 and 8GB systems, so yeah you could.
I have 32GB in my desktop, but 8GB in my laptop. I use both for work, and they both work fine. 8 is still plenty for most people!
True enough, then again, you generally want to ooze out as much functionality as you possibly can. You can, but you'll have to deal with the cursor flickering. I use my win10 laptop with 8gb running Fedora inside a VM (which has a 1gb minimum). I run at 4gb. And, it's still pretty slow. Could be a product of VBox, but I kinda doubt it. I think it's more based around Win10 being a resource hog on older hardware. I use my desktop machine for virtual images, 16gb, with 8gb+ assigned to the Vbox and it runs ten times smoother. The real issue is when it comes to upgrading your OS which takes absolutely forever on an under-powered machine. I didn't say you couldn't use it. I just said, you probably wouldn't want to. Since, it will take an hour to run a sys upgrade. Which, imo, that's abysmal. What image do you run? Also, I would take a little bit of an exception to the statement that most people just need 8gb. Tons of people are running 100 tabs in their Chrome. Along with 15 extensions. And, they never even reboot. So, I think for practical use, most people want 16gb so they aren't causing stalls because of improper use when multi-tasking. I used to repair cellphones. Some people would bring it complaining it ran slow. That was because they had 14 applications open at once. So, I disagree there. 8gb assumes that you're actually maintaining your machine. And, for a lot of people, most, that's not the case. Like I said, it seems like a good build for gaming. And, that's what the video is about, so well done. But, not so sure about some other things. Just wanted to throw that out there for anyone who would otherwise want that functionality.
Most consumer PCs I see being sold (not high-end stuff, "regular PCs") still have 4-8GB. I don't disagree that 16GB would be nice, but most people seem to still be happy with 8GB or less. There are still millions of office PCs running 4GB, and they're totally fine. Most people are nowhere near power users. Heck, I was still editing video and doing design work with the Adobe suite on a 4GB laptop when I traveled as recently as early this year, and it was slow but still usable. I'm running W10 Pro, to answer your question.
I'm not sure I agree with you about OS upgrade time being affected that much. I've done plenty of W7 installs on old 1-2GB machines for clients, and HDD speed appears to be the most consistent bottleneck. I also don't see high RAM usage during OS updates, so while I'm not outright disagreeing with you, I haven't noticed what you're referring to.
You're right about the bottleneck. That said, I upgraded to Fedora 25 using my laptop's virtual machine, and watched the ram spike to what I dedicated for that machine. I was curious about that claim, and I saw a few computers being sold with 4gb. But, very few. And, I'm pretty sure those are all running Win8. I actually meant your virtual image, but you answered my question. I'm really surprised you haven't considered using more linux distros with those machines with such low memory lol. Either way, take it easy. It's obvious we're not gonna agree. But, take care.
I can't use Linux distros on them, they were all for regular office
workers for nonprofits, or for family members. I have to do enough
training on simple stuff like creating zips and storing all important
data on network drives, I don't think learning an entirely new OS with
the downsides of Linux (for the average consumer) would be a good idea
:-)
For my VM, I used Linux a few times, but it was mostly so I could test things in older Windows environments. Linux might need a lot more RAM, I'd defer to you on that.
I got sad at 18:00 because you hit the dog
That's why I still use Win7. I loved XP, and current updated Win7 just feels like a reskinned XP with some bells and whistles. Screw Win10, I already have enough of my life and what I do recorded on a server somewhere, I don't an OS logging LITERALLY everything I do on it.
It's a mother Fucking dog in a video game...
how does this build look? I need a workstation for heavy duty software and game heavily. pcpartpicker.com/list/mbNJZ8
feedback?
where did you get the motherboard from? What's the difference between Asus P7H55 and Asus P7H55-M?
Hey JERMgaming, since you still have $33 left after subtracting the GPU cost, do you think you might upgrade the CPU and RAM? You could probably get $40 if you sold your i5 750 based on what they are currently going for on ebay, putting you at $73 total. With that much money, you could upgrade your cpu to an X3470 Quad Core Hyper-Threaded Processor at 2.93Ghz($50), which I am sure you could overclock further, and you could add an extra 4GB of RAM, or perhaps a cooler upgrade if you are confident that 8GB will be enough for a while, which I think it will.

OMG im on of the First People WHO See This Human Milestone!!!
7:16 I personally was able to upgrade to the Pro at no additional cost. Which the reason was because the PS4 was a limited edition. So, I feel that's something consoles really have that PC doesn't. They pretty much all glow, so it's the norm. The console is just capable of having a collection aspect to it.
Thanks for the help I truly needed it
if u lower the settings enough, my raspberry pi can play at 4k.
In which games?
its a joke lol, but really if u play at low it is easier to play at 4k60 with weaker gpus.
#PCMASTERRACE WINS AGAIN
Nice video dude, full of content, down to the details, and full of info. You deserve a sub man.
Thanks for watching!
Your videos helped me with building my own Potato Masher Pro, so thank you from the bottom of my heart. :3
You're welcome!
