If Thibodeau is running a 9-man rotation, 7 of those guys are plus defenders including two All-Defense caliber wings and an elite rim protector in Mitchell Robinson, combine that with Thibs being a defensive-minded coach with a solid scheme on that end of the floor and absolutely New York should have a top 5 defense this upcoming season.
If Mitchell Robinson is able to stay healthy no doubt… that’s the only thing that gives me a slight hesitation although if he does I won’t be surprised if ny is at least a top 3 defense

They will probably break even from last year. Franz is overrated (on defense) but your other two points are true.
@@Oshakara overrated on defense? No one even rates him on D and can guard 1-4. Magic are the 2nd best defense in the league but our players are overrated on D okay got you genius
@YourWorstNightmare3333 I don’t “hate the Magic”. I simply doubt their rim protection a bit more compared to Boston (7’3 Porzingis), Minnesota (4x DPOY) and OKC (special turnover causing machine with Chet and I-Hart). Ranking a team the 4th best defense is the opposite of hate lol

I know know the spurs are young but ,wemby,castle and sochan…could be scary in the future.
I strongly considered them but think they’ll be just a bit short of the top 5 this year

Orlando starters have four guys who can hold their ground. Only liability is Paolo
Paolo is their offense it's hard being a 2 way player everyday they are young and got bright future scary team to face in a series
He isnt really a reliability anymore. He can turn it up when needed, and was at times great in the play offs on that end. Its a bit much to ask of a 20-21 year old to lead the team in points, rebounds, assists and be a consistently great defender throughout 82 games.

Not including the team with two DPOYs is nonsense
They were some of the weaker DPOYs in the last few years, and it is a team wide defense ranking and losing brooks hurts their depth at the wing where some of these other teams have great players at guard, wing, and big positions. Expecting big things from the grizzlies and I think with Edey they can surpass some expectations.
@jamesonramirez8997 A DPOY is still a DPOY lol even if you think JJJ and Smart didn't deserve to win the award, saying that they were not at least top 3 defensively on their respective years is just wrong. Loosing Brooks really doesn't matter when you replace him with Marcus Smart. And they do have wing depht with GG Jackson and Vince Williams Jr. With the addition of a 7'4 demon as well, the Grizzlies will be nothing short of a top 5 defense next season.
Memphis was 6th in my consideration. They’ll be right there. Could finish 5th or higher for sure
@@LUC4Z3yeah they won the award but this is team defense,, jackson and Vince are not the same wing defenders as guys like white, holiday, Caruso, Dort, Mikel, OG, McDaniels, John Isaac, even Tatum and brown. Grizz are strong defensively but I don’t think smart and jackson being good not great dpoys is enough to make them better than the teams mentioned above. They will be elite but it remains to be seen how impactful edey will be, and you have weak to average defenders like ja when other teams don’t have the same liabilities.
@jamesonramirez8997 you mentioned some of the best defenders from those teams. Jaren and Smart are at that level, if not better. The Kicks also have a defensive liability in Brunson. The Pelicans have no center, and both Zion and CJ are not good defenders. Grizzlies' top 4 defenders (Jaren, Smart, Vince, Bane) are better than the Knicks and Pelicans.
i dont see how the magic got defensively better and going from #2 defense to #4 defense.
Because the other teams weren’t stagnant (also Orlando wasn’t 2 last year by Defrtg). OKC improved drastically defensively and get a year older. Minnesota and Boston *should* stay above Orlando but maybe one of them slip
@@UtilitySports #1 in opp assist and TO, #2 in opp points allowed per 100. And considering magic played almost half of their games without Wendell, and giving Joe ingles minutes, with limited Anthony black minutes.. to adding kcp, more black and Wendell minutes, and growth from a young core of Suggs,Wagner, and paolo… I think all signs point to being significantly better this year. Plus more Isaac minutes.

Let’s see how adding those two fit together with a young team who had success. Let’s see how changing that lineup works. I gave you, a real legit reason that you didn’t explain yourself to why the magic got drastically better. But I’m not even gonna go the “hate Orlando “ route I just know you don’t watch enough of them to understand the team fully. Time reveals all.

Not only was I able to see them in person this year multiple times, but I get PLENTY of use out of my Premium League Pass membership every single year. I've raved (and written / recorded) about JI's defense so many times, plus I've been higher on Franz than 99% of the NBA world over the last 2 years. Check my big board last year on Ant Black and go back to when I was calling Suggs a future Jrue Holiday. You act like I'm skeptical having them in the top 4 lol

i understand this list, i agree with 5-2 i understand why the thunder is number 1 but that conclusion is completely hypotheical. you dont know how chet will fare at the 4 you dont even know if Caruso will start. and Lu dort is that guy def on the same tier of with defender as suggs, og and mcdaniels but number 1 piont of attack defender in the league that Duck Donut lvl of glaze.

Creed calm down, 5 is a bit high but with the addition of castle with wemby and sochan,they could definitely improve to potentialy a top 10 defense.
