@@TheDave333 Exactly my thoughts. My silly guppies feed at wherever. Top, bottom, middle... It's all the same to them. They kind of like to rip around the tank at super fast speeds though. They do it just for fun it seems. They're never chasing anything or going for food. One will just get a wild hair in him and just go like crazy from one end of the tank to the other and back at full tilt. Funny goofballs. They sure are a hoot to watch. Who would have ever thought that a group of not very spectacular "feeder" guppies would be so much fun?
Ahh! So those are springtails. I've seen them on my water lettuce, and they would jump off whenever I push it under the water. Thanks for the informative video! You got me with the creature at the end of the video 😅
@@Jojinx101 ooooh, so *thats* what was eating my water lettuce! I saw the holes in them, and eventually found a little weevil on one leaf which i assumed was a waterweed weevil, even though he looked more like a grain weevil. Guess it was the springtails. Thats good to know, especially for paludariums, cause they'll do good work as a transport species.
Indeed aquarium helps to relax, even if you are seeing video about algae:) To be honest I catched myself thinking that I enjoy watching the process of whole aquarium ecosystem develops with minimum external interference. I mean when I bought my first tank I tried to clean it two or three times a week. And after years I prefer contemplate the evolution of the self-regulating ecosystems in my tanks - it's like a philosophy of life. Aquariums give you a chance to better understand nature and live harmony with yourself
I agree with you. We should let nature take care of itself. I loved watching this tank develop and change. A healthy aquarium is all about balance and harmony.
@@TheDave333 your videos are always fortified with wholesome ingredients in each of the groups that have some of the best qualities that choosey Moms prefer !!! Amazing close-ups of very rich ecosystem. Is dense here, but guppies would thrive until oxygen level is high. Guppies are tolerant species to many conditions but sensitive to low oxygen level. Excellent footage from springtails life. Are they the same springtails living in soil? With guppies there is no need to reduce springtails population, guppies like them to eat with a lot of fun 🐟
Yes, you are right! There are many species of springtails, and I don't believe these are the same ones living in soil. However, if they have enough moisture and food, they can live on land as well. 🐟🦐🦠 ❤
Always a pleasure to see new videos from you! May I ask how many tanks you have? Are all your videos from your own tanks? You must have a full warehouse! 😊 Would be awesome to see a tour. Keep up the amazing work. ❤️🐠🐠🐌🐟
I don't think they do, and it's several body lengths, but not as far as a flea. What's really cool is their rate of acceleration is over 90 Gs if that means anything to you. :-)
@@TheDave333 oh yeah, definitely will. If you want them as cleanup crew, which they are absurdly good at, youll want to find a relatively docile species, and keep them exclusively with larger livebearers. If possible, only get them from other fishkeepers who already have populations living in harmony with their livebearers. Alternately, neocaridina wild type will be good for most algae blooms, but will still struggle with the tougher ones and wont even touch cyano bacteria.
it's the hair algae that drives me crazy. I'd love to start keeping scuds, they'd make a great video subject. Any thoughts on finding a docile species?
@@TheDave333 ive only ever caught wild unfortunately. No idea on species names, and they were all pretty vicious. Only tankmates they could have were aquatic isopods cause of their natural defenses. Thanks, I did have some wild-caught ones for a while, but I phased them out because I was worried about the egg-eating problem. Interesting animas for sure. . . I'll have to go searching this summer.

It's like a South American rainforest in there. ❤😊
I loved the look of that tank = very natural looking. ❤❤❤
spooky barbs coming out for Halloween makes me scared I hide the candy
I wonder if they'll eat candy corn, and if people would give me a lot of grief for trying ? :-)
Great close-ups of the sprintails! And why one would want to get rid of them? A nice extra organism in your own little eco-system 🙂
Exactly!
They love water lettuce. They will make lots of little holes in it.

I wonder if the spring tails jump the same distance everytime they jump? Thanks Dave

Is that baby corn/maize in the tank? Which plant is it?
It is called Asian water grass.
Scuds will actually eat cyanobacteria and hair algae both. Mileage may vary on whether the species you find will eat your guppy fry however...
Good to know, and thanks for sharing. My main fear with scuds is them eating eggs of egg-laying species.
