If you cut all the leaves off of a peace lily and drop it into the bottom of the aquarium it becomes aquatic and if you glue them to rocks they look like a unique anubias. I get a new leaf a month just with a desk lamp

Thank goodness I still have 2 monster deliciosa stems left from a bigger plant that rotted in my tank. The main plant lived for 2 years. Now I’ll remember to check for healthy stems besides the roots.
Most aquarium plants also grow out of water, if you let your aquarium plants get to the surface they get more co2 ad oxygen which speeds up growth. Brazilian pennywort is especially good at this in my experience and can even become overwhelming at times but it looks really good.

Very well presented video. Easy to understand and I appreciate that. I am going to try a couple of plants soon although I have a few little ones taking off. Thank you.
I put a monstera in a new tank still cycling. My ammonia was off the charts. Eventually, I checked all the plants I had rooting, and one of my monstera ryzomes was completely rotted out. I had it tied to a mopani stump. I think the mold that grows on the mopani rotted it out. Trial and error best to make mistakes while doing a fishless cycle.
@@plantlifeproject so far. I have pothos rooting, and they're showing good signs. The other monstera i took off the wood to prevent the same fate as the other. I have bella palm in some baskets with clay balls. They might make it. I put a money tree in a basket, and I really don't think it's going to work. We'll see it's only been a week.
@@plantlifeproject 2 week follow up the money tree was replaced with a peace lily. The palms are a little crispy due to a little root rot. The infected monstera is growing well, the pothos cuttings are slowly growing. All in all I'm pleased. I'm having better luck with riparium plants than submerged aquarium plants.
Thank you for all of this great advice! I have one riparium with a mounted phalaenopsis orchid and some chocolate lily pads. I think it looks...okay. the frogs and the Betta like it. I have not tried these philodendron species yet. I have been successful with Congo Rojo (or imperial red? Can’t remember at the moment). It’s in a planter basket a few inches above the water line but with roots in the water. It is growing slowly but is healthy with new growth.
I have a 3 gallon tank with a betta and snail. I have some anubias and pearl weed. I have a pothos plant but I think I've added it wrong to the tank. I just cut one leaf and have it hanging out of the nano filter. Should I just take the plant out of the soil, get rid of the soil, and then place the plants with roots in?
If you are trying to root a cutting, I recommend cutting a vine long enough to have 3-4 nodes (the places where the leaves are coming out of the stem) that’s where the roots will sprout. I'm pretty sure I see some 'Wandering Jews' plants there too. I've grown that extremely easily out of HOB's, internal filters and tote/planter ponds. I find it roots in water faster than pothos, and in the right environment grows faster until the pothos has enough roots. My pothos i neglected that was growing on top of the media in my 100+ gal rated Fluval aquaclear HOB on my 55 long, has had to be pulled down from my false ceiling. It's tried separating the window molding. It's average stem size is bigger than my thumb, my variegated leaves are larger than my head and some have started to split. I'm almost positive if my living room had near 100% humidity the thing would attempt to flower. I feel bad, but I'm going to be chopping it down soon to redo the tank. Since I have such large stems and they're rigid and have sometimes nearly 3 feet in length before another leaf or node, I'm debating on trying to root it like I've done in the past with straight pieces of lucky bamboo into the bottom of my planter ponds. My spider plant thats also growing in with the Pothos is way easier to manage, because it just makes pups.
Is it possible to propagate lucky bamboo or do u have to keep buying little individual plants? Like where do other retailers get them or sellers, like how do they have so many?
It is easy to propagate lucky bamboo. The stem can be cut pretty much anywhere and place the cutting in water, soil, whatever and it will root. I do it often with mine.
@@plantlifeproject so if I cut the bottom portion off or cut it in the middle of the stem. The top part with the leaves will reroot? And the bottom portion which would just have a stalk with the bottom section of roots would end up making leaves at the top? Because my lucky bamboo is just one stalk with no branches with leaves at the top roots and the bottom..
I would like to grow a Monstera inside my 60 gallon tank. Imagine this, my tank is about 2 meter (6,5 feet) away from my window. But my window has sheer curtains. So will this be enough sunlight?
Great video. Straight and to the point with great helpful advice! I just placed a Deffenbachia in my aquarium, I know they're poisonous (along with Pothos and Monstera), especially to cats and dogs, it has been a week, the Otos and shrimp seem fine. What has your experienced been? When you trimmed the roots, did the sap go in the water and was there an effect in the aquarium and livestock? Cheers!
Thanks, glad to hear that video it is helpful! I haven’t tried growing it yet , there are so many plants out there! but if you’re concerned, you could adapt it to water in a separate tank or container for several weeks and test it out with just a few fish or shrimp.
@@plantlifeproject Hey, it's 7 months later any my Diffenbachia is growing VERY well in my aquarium! Now looking to rescape my tank and making my first riparium! BTW, what is that red plant at 1:15 looks amazing.
What's up bro,I put peace lilly, swiss cheese, and pothos at the top of my 30 gallon in November..they've been doing well and growing well but recently my pothos has some yellow leaves not the whole thing but about 3 or 4 leaves and when I look innthe tank it looks like some of the roots are dieing. The roots were healthy and strong looking about a week and a half ago..I'm not sure what wrong..so what can I do ?? The only thing I can think of ,is I put fertilizer pills in the bottom of the tank under the soil but some of them popped out to the surface.i think that messed with my water balance.
Have you tested your water? Depending on your bio load, there may not be enough nutrients. After testing the water, you may consider a balanced liquid fertilizer like easy green from aquarium co-op, but test the water first. How much light are the plants getting? It’s not uncommon for pothos to lose some leaves especially toward the bottom of the vine as it gets larger and it can still go through cycles of shedding and replacing roots even months after being adapted. Is it putting out new leaves and roots?
I am having an issue with propagating my pothos. The roots, mainly at the start even if they are long, will get slimy and wipe off leaving a thin piece. Why is that happening and when it does should I cut off the root?
@@plantlifeproject No, not from my single leaf propagations. I have them suction cupped at the water level. I do have one long piece with many leaves and it has new root growth.
@@tarameyers494 I have never had much success with single leaf cuttings in the water. It seems to require more energy to form the new leaf bud than the cutting can handle. I recommend using tip cuttings with at least 2-3 leaves and 3-4 nodes where roots can form. I have the most success this way.
I'm struggling. I've tried several times for Philio and monstera deliciosa and it's not working.... The leaves turn yellow, and eventually rot at the bottom.... My tank is 85°. That's the only thing no one ever touches on. Does that matter?? Otherwise, they're clipped where they should be, fully submerged, and still rot.
Sometimes certain plants can be difficult to get started and it can take experimenting to overcome the challenge. You might want to try changing things up , like see if they will root in a separate container with tap water at room temperature (I have done this with certain plants), or if you’re adapting a rooted plant, try a small one instead of a large. Try not pruning the roots, Maybe experiment with the lights, perhaps they need more. These are just some possibilities for changing the approach. I understand the frustration of the plant you want not working. There are plants that I’m struggling with now. I have struggled with spider plant and gave up a few times but then tried it again a year or so later with a different approach and it is growing much better than my other attempts. Sometimes peace lilies don’t adapt for me. Sometimes I get frustrated and need a break and then later ready to try again.

@@plantlifeproject We use feeder fish , .They are cheap.. And nothing wants locked up for Life, Just for your amusement .. No matter any environment , We never stop to think maybe the fish might object to a life in a tank.. Have a wonderful day my friend..
Big plants can overcrowd small tanks and, depending on the situation, may not get enough nutrients. But you can try it out for yourself. I’m thinking of the example of a large peace lily in a small vase with a betta. In this situation the roots crowd the container too much for the fish and will likely require dosing fertilizer to support the plant.
I have placed pothos under water, roots, two leaves submerged. Within a month under water plant has grown roots into the substrate and four new leaves have sprouted!

@plantlifeproject great bro! I'm loving it hey out of curiosity what's your favorite background plant for inside the aquarium
If you cut all the leaves off of a peace lily and drop it into the bottom of the aquarium it becomes aquatic and if you glue them to rocks they look like a unique anubias. I get a new leaf a month just with a desk lamp

How do you keep them held up? I'm thinking about using small bowls from the dollar tree and cutting the bottom out of it and hanging it with a clip? What are you doing?

Thanks for the detailed information in this video. Like you, I am not great with aquatic plants so I bought a small Pothos and I';m going to give that a try.
Glad you enjoyed it. Don't give up on the aquarium plants! Since this video, I am slowly getting better at aquarium plants just through experimenting and trial and error and I bet you could too! This is so much like gardening, it can take some time and patience to develop a green thumb, but practice makes progress.
Great video! I just started getting into planted aquariums. Adding houseplants is such a good idea.
Thanks, I totally agree!
12;30 pm watching your video's learning alot ! I just bought 1 Betta fish and placed into a fish bowl thinking of adding a money plant I recently rooted in water .I think it would look nice and betta will feel more secure .Fish like to hide . Wish me luck .Thank u again for all your video's !
please don't keep your betta in a bowl its cruel
Thank you for this Video I found it extremely helpful.
I'm so glad!
Awesome video thank you! Been considering pothos or lucky bamboo in my aquarium and the info you provided is both helpful and encouraging! 😊
Awesome!
Great Video in all aspects.
Found your helpful video and subscribed today.
very nice content..trial and error model.. nice!
Thank goodness I still have 2 monster deliciosa stems left from a bigger plant that rotted in my tank. The main plant lived for 2 years. Now I’ll remember to check for healthy stems besides the roots.
Fantastic video! Subbed for more 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Most aquarium plants also grow out of water, if you let your aquarium plants get to the surface they get more co2 ad oxygen which speeds up growth. Brazilian pennywort is especially good at this in my experience and can even become overwhelming at times but it looks really good.
I concur. I grow pennywort as a floating plant mostly.
This has been incredibly helpful, thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you for making this video, sir. Great information. I’m setting up my first planted tank. This will be very helpful as I learn.

Very well presented video. Easy to understand and I appreciate that. I am going to try a couple of plants soon although I have a few little ones taking off. Thank you.
Thank you, I’m glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the post! I love the information. ❤️
These things happen sometimes. Did your other plants make it?

I have one riparium with a mounted phalaenopsis orchid and some chocolate lily pads. I think it looks...okay. the frogs and the Betta like it. I'm wasn't confident I could make it look better. But I'm going to take your advice and not give up and keep working on it!

Is it possible to grow philodendron birkin and philodendron xanadu in a riparium. If it is, what's the best way?
If you want to use the whole plant, check out this video on plant preparation ⬇️

What do you do if you do not have any substrate or have bare bottom aquarium for flowerhorn?
Many of the riparian plants will grow in water only and aquarium plants that float or feed from the water nutrients
Thanks for sharing
You’re welcome!
Do you need to add any fertilizers for the houseplants in the aquarient? Can we grow Aglaonema?
Sometimes fertilizer is needed, if there are not enough fish or if a specific plant nutrient is lacking

Hi there, do you have any experience growing scindapsus silvery ann in any tanks? It is a type of pothos. I see mixed views online about whether or not it is fish safe, so I’m torn.
I’ve tried cuttings before and they did root but never did very well for me
Hi do the lights have to be above the plants . I have a twinstar led light but it sits only 6 inch above the tank thanks

Very informative! Thank you for your advice. I have aquariums in my insulated garage that gets down to about 40degrees air temp in winter time with water heated for shubunkins that I bring in from outdoor pond . I heat my greenhouse and water temps get down to upper 50 - lower 60s, most plants have handled it ok. Not sure what the minimum temps are for these plants in water.
I'm loving your videos!! I do not have patience with my goldfish tank and these pothos!! I have an algea green-water bloom that I can't keep under control. Don't want to keep lights on for this reason, yet trying to grow pathos! Advice?
Thanks, I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos! I would recommend putting something over the top of the tank to shade out the light either completely or partially, you may need to experiment with it. That way your Pothos can still get the light it needs to grow and remove nutrients from the water. That’s what I would do. Hope this helps!
Also check out this video ruclips.net/video/hGaszKmOXPk/видео.html See how the Pothos is shading the tank. This might give you an idea to try out. In the video coming out this Saturday, I will show this tank again and how much the plants have grown

I have a 10 gallon nano tank that's pretty much fully stocked I pur as many plants as I could fit in there and do virtually 0 water changes
Awesome!
I had to subscribe for the background alone
Sounds like a BIG Pothos! Crazy just how big they can get in the right conditions.
What house plants can u use with a turtle
Try hanks for this vid! I have a problem with pest and plant sickness, how can I treat them in my aquarium?
you are welcome! What kind of pest and plant sickness are you dealing with?
You can add tradescantia to substrate and it will vine outward. Just remove the leaves that are submerged and have it coming out of the tank
Oh that great, I have this plant, so I just cut a piece off and put the bollom in like I would a vine of pothos ?
Can you have Pothso plant and aquarium plants in the same tank ?. I have always had live plants in my aquarium but never done pothos

@@LogacysAquaticLove yes the top part would grow roots and the bottom part would grow new leaves

I would like to grow a Monstera inside my 60 gallon tank. Imagine this, my tank is about 2 meter (6,5 feet) away from my window. But my window has sheer curtains. So will this be enough sunlight?
How do you attach large plants in the taller/bigger tanks?
I use diy planters, or a rubber coated wire/gear ties or sometimes insulated electrical wire
@@GavinKohAquascaping glad to hear that, man, Thanks for the update! The plant in question is wandering Jew/ inch plant, Tradescantia zebrina
Can you put a house plant that has been living in a fish tank back into a pot ?
Yes. It will have to adapt back to living in soil and may experience wilting during this time.
Sir” What is the best Substrate to grow Aquarium plants with?
In my opinion the best substrate for plants is soil. Either garden soil or aqua soil.
@@plantlifeproject Thankyou..Where would I buy it? Homedepot got Chemicals in there Dirt…
I am having an issue with propagating my pothos. The roots, mainly at the start even if they are long, will get slimy and wipe off leaving a thin piece. Why is that happening and when it does should I cut off the root?
You can cut the dying roots off. Are any new leaves or roots growing since putting the cuttings in the water?
@@plantlifeproject No, not from my single leaf propagations. I have them suction cupped at the water level. I do have one long piece with many leaves and it has new root growth.
@@tarameyers494 I have never had much success with single leaf cuttings in the water. It seems to require more energy to form the new leaf bud than the cutting can handle. I recommend using tip cuttings with at least 2-3 leaves and 3-4 nodes where roots can form. I have the most success this way.
@@plantlifeproject Thanks for your help!

Spider plant works too>

@@plantlifeproject We use feeder fish , .They are cheap.. And nothing wants locked up for Life, Just for your amusement .. No matter any environment , We never stop to think maybe the fish might object to a life in a tank..
Have a wonderful day my friend..
why big plants can't work for small tanks, the bigger the plant the more nitrate it will suck
Big plants can overcrowd small tanks and, depending on the situation, may not get enough nutrients. But you can try it out for yourself. I’m thinking of the example of a large peace lily in a small vase with a betta. In this situation the roots crowd the container too much for the fish and will likely require dosing fertilizer to support the plant.
thank you!
