I literally have my very first shoot with a client that isn't someone I know personally, so I've been nervous about how to direct her, so this video came just in time! So great! I'm hoping I remember these tips, LOL! :D
Your content as a photographer is great, and phenomenal as far as RUclips videos go. I appreciate finding a creator who actually showcases their craft, and works with a dedicated team. Go you and everybody behind camera... Learning from each video, while enjoying them too!
I almost feel guilty that I have an opportunity to watch this kind of content for free. Thank you, Julia! These kinds of videos with posing and composition tips are absolutely brilliant!
Considering it's advised by RUclips as one of the best ways to engage your audience at the start of a video. I'd say it's not just you. It's a good sign of a professional who can recognize the importance of following algorithmic data.
Thank you, Julia! This was very helpful. Will you please make one for posing men that are not models. I know you made one a while back but I would love to see more. Your videos are always the best ❤️❤️❤️ thank you!
7:40 ... use of walls, fences, street lights, in general anything that the model can lean or sit on, or interact in any way, helps a lot. You go from "I have no idea what to do with myself" to situation which is known and safe, and takes model mind from "shit I'm being photographed" to performing some simple tasks :D
Haha I completely agree, standing out in the middle of nowhere with nothing to lean on/sit on/hold can feel very awkward so I love using my surroundings to help people feel more comfortable!
In my opinion one of the best tutorial about this topic; thank you for sharing (the parameter also)! A quick question: which tipe of metering mode dou you use? many tks
thank you for this!! i’m always insecure about posing people (i’m still really starting out with shooting others so i’m only shooting my friends) but these are such great and easy tips to follow!
Great videos! It's late-night / early morning and I've binged quite a few of your videos already. Time to rewatch and take notes =) Thanks for the great tips!
Glad it was helpful! And that's a really good idea, I find I'm the same when I'm watching/learning something, taking down notes really helps cement in in my head haha
This video saved my butt! I had a shoot with a client that's a friend of a friend and I watched your video and it helped a ton with directing and posing her... the photos cane out great!!! Thank you sm :)
Thank you so much for those tips! Since I‘m only gettin started with portraits, your advice comes in really handy! And I loved the images you captured!
Wow, your videos are all so helpful! Thank you so much! I have a question about your lightroom presets. I bought one of them as somehow I can't use the intensity regulator in lightroom. I wonder if that is normal, cause with all my other presets it works...?! Anyhow I am a huge fan of your work and learned sooo much from you! Thank you and best wishes from Bavaria, Germany 💐
Your tips on posing is really great! I especially appreciate your videos about posing "non models". However, in this video, and also in other videos, I find the poses work great for pretty young girls and fashion style photography. But, what if your model is a older person, say in her 40s or 50s? (Many of my friends are ;)) I guess that would require more natural and calmer poses. I would love to see how you would direct and pose her.
Thank you so much! And yes I agree, that the posing I do is more suited for younger clients and you could do similar with a more mature subject and just tone it all down and bring it back a little. I think with these videos I show that creating movement with your subject is key in making them feel comfortable and creating natural looking poses for your photoshoots regardless of age, rather than finding a pose online and getting them to copy it with which a non-model usually ends up looking quite stiff and unnatural! Thanks for the suggestion though, I will see if I can make a video about this :)
@@juliatrotti Thank you for the advice. I will bear those tips in mind! Looking forward to more posing videos. I find aperture, focus, bokeh and all is comparily easy to master :)
This is awesome! Thank you so much for the tips, there are a few of them I'm definitely gonna try on my next photoshoot. Just out of curiosity, how many pictures do you deliver to your clients when they ask for a portrait photoshoot?
Hi Julia. Hope you are doing well as always. Thank you for sharing all these awesome contents. I've been following you for quite a while. You works are really amazing. I love your interesting angles, color grading and without any doubt beautiful models. So, I tried to analyze very closely and figure out what makes your photos so great. Finally realized something. Your cropping (before and after taking the photo) makes the photos standout. I know it comes naturally after years of shooting. However, I would love to see a dedicated video based on cropping techniques/angles; things that you think matter. Say hi to Den. You are amazing. Thanks in advance.
Thank you so much and thanks for the suggestion! A video about composition in my portraits is something that I always get asked about so I would love to work on that :)
Julia, thank you so much for this upload! The tips that you give are just the tips that I've been looking for! Keep up the great work as always. Still waiting for upload with a @fujifilm hopefully they can send you a test body and lenses.

I’ve been wanting to shoot clients, how it go .? Any tips ?
How did it go?!
I hope you have great luck I have a photo shoot today but I’m not great at posing women
It's always a godsend to watch these sorts of videos as it is still a major weakness of mine that I'll eventually be comfortable with.
