The big bang theory is my favorite and this show was the inspiration of F.R.I.E.N.D.S because this was popular by the time
Living Single does not “give Friends vibes”. The concept of Friends was taken from Living Single.
If anything living single is ripping off three’s company and or golden girls

The creator of friends even said he got the idea from living single, yet friends gets all the shine every time, both in the 90s and still now.
Shame that "Living Single" isn't more well known, and it debuted just an entire year before "Friends" did. It still holds up well 30 years later, and it was one of the first starring roles for Queen Latifah.
Queen Latifah was already well known as a rapper before that.

Why do we need to constantly compare every Ensemble cast show to Friends. Friends is not the first nor the best show with an ensemble cast. Why do we keep treating friends like it’s the greatest show ever? It’s not
I agree. It's bizarre that many Friends fans claim it was groundbreaking, unique etc. There were already many sitcoms about groups of friends.

I agree, I've seen about 100 sitcoms & about half of them are better than Friends.
Golden Girls, Seinfeld, New Girl and Living Single are my faves besides Friends. Also, Living Single was an inspiration for Friends. I love both.

Everytime that I try and watch "Friends" or "Seinfeld" I fall asleep within 5 minutes. Never seen a full episode of either show...
"Red Dwarf", "What's Happening", "The Jeffersons", "227" and so many others were left out.
I thought I was the only one that couldn't live through more than 15 min of either of those shows.
I agree that Seinfeld & Friends are both massively overrated. I'm baffled at their huge fanbases.
I never viewed Jack and Karen as Will and Graces...friend group though. They were their own entity and were along for the ride. Their hearts were for each other, not Will or Grace. I guess collectively the two groups came together for fun stuff, but as an adult they arent really "close like that"

Ironic how Seinfeld was about friendship seeing how no one of the characters actually cared about each other, always laughing at the misfortunes they get into.

Living Single was just so damn good omgggg. I never felt connected to Friends, but I absolutely felt connected to Living Single.
I was a big fan of Happy Endings too. Very funny. Network did them wrong.
Practically every sitcom falls into this category, starting with I love Lucy. Personal favorites are The Golden Girls, Seinfeld, That 70s Show

Living single was the original. It was important because at the time young urban black characters were pimps, gangsta, and drug dealers on any network. Nothing was out there to show a real depiction of Americans with dreams and goals. The dynamic was great with one being a owner of a magazine and one as a handyman and he wasn’t looked down upon for being so. Just wish fox promoted more and realized they had something more than just another show.

Mom is a great one that should have been included. To me it often reminded me of Golden Girls (because the group wasn't a bunch of 20 somethings) but they're all recovering alcoholics & drug addicts plus it was more than four women. Bonnie & Christy's relationship was a lot like Sophia & Dorothy, Wendy & Tammy were a lot like Rose, and Jill was like the Blanche of the group. Not sure how I would put Marjorie.

Too bad the last four seasons were SHIT.
Funny how people are criticizing Friends today because the cast wasn't diverse, but Living Single, Girlfriends, etc. get a pass. Plus everyone dated all colors of the spectrum. I didn't watch the other shows, but doubt that was the case there.
These shows were created because of the lack of diversity in other shows, it was a way for people to see themselves in a show, and while there were no token non poc characters added, these shows did feature storylines and relationships that showcased various ethnicities, and real life experiences. Friends was criticized because it was extremely mainstream show with immense popularity that virtually ignored the poc community, the shows you mentioned were not as mainstream but if they were would easily still best Friends storyline and incorporation of other ethnicities. It’s okay to want to see someone that looks like you be present on tv it can help people realize everyone is human and more than a skin color. These shows don’t get a pass they are just a reaction to a lack action.
