This renovation must be costing a fortune. I realize the owners refurbished doors, molding, trim etc., recycled furniture and purchased many preowned items but custom tile work, masonry, and building a brand new, huge garage plus contractor labor costs aren't cheap. The restoration work is beautiful and I applaud the owners' efforts to keep many historical features of the schoolhouse but I can't imagine the heating costs for such a huge building. The garage alone looks like it's bigger than our house.

How does one put into words how stunning this project is turning out. The fact you are a mom to these young children and have been able to do all of this researching and sourcing of all the amazing finds. Franklin, IN looks like a great little with incredible charm and obviously great shops that are perfect places to fins what you need. The most impressive part of this whole project is your attention to all the little details that honor and restore the history of this old school.

I’m actually kind of obsessed with the fact that you said you want to preserve the graffiti on the vintage desks. Those pieces have so much history from everyone who ever sat there and that’s such a conversation starter. I love how you’re not making it just look old, you are preserving all the stories. I’m obsessed with that!

AMAZING! My husband and I always dreamed of restoring an old building (school, church, firehouse). We ended up in NW Ohio with his grandfather's old farmhouse (4,400 sq ft + a new foundation that could add additional 2,000 sq ft of living space) on 8+ acres. Have done lots of work since 10 yrs of living here. Now down to one room a year. In our 70's and don't really need this much space, but wanted to restore the family history. Thanks for sharing your story. Fascinating to watch. ❤

I can understand your excitement on finding the perfect lighting fixtures. Years ago I found 3 copper art deco wall sconces at a garage sale that had been painted over for years. It took work to being them back to their original beautiful copper sheen. I smile every time I walk down my hallway. I am confident that you will be smiling every time you see your fixtures for years to come. 💡😊

YES. YES!!!! Recycle those chairs. Give them a new home and put them to work! They were absolutely designed for use, and deserve to be used. All these old pieces of furniture were meant for decades of hard use, and are so sturdy and honestly with just a few weeks of TLC, they can go right back to work for generations to come.

There is so much I love about this: the history, the way you are preserving the past and pairing it with the present in your own style, the fact that you are a fellow Hoosier and this is all taking place just miles away, your creativity and vision. But not the least of it all is your calm and soft way of presenting it all. It is delightfully soothing. Thanks for sharing the journey!

Your joy in those school house chairs was infectious -- you brightened my day! Love everything you're doing. The schoolhouse pendant is wonderful! When we downsized and moved to our small home, we decided to go with an older style to fit the older house we now had. We fell in love with a replica schoolhouse globe ceiling light (from Etsy) for our little entryway. It's the same shape (though much smaller and a flush mount) as yours and we love it! There's something about the functionality and simple clean shape that just feels right. I love all the wonderful old furniture you're pulling together (I grew up with barrister book cases and they're just great). Looking forward to all the upcoming videos you mentioned!

It's looking great! That's a lot of hard work! My husband and I were renting an old apartment that still needed work. Use to be an old doctors office and was over 100 years old. If I was much younger and healthier I would have liked living there and liked helping to do some of the work but because of being disabled now I was unable to do much. Living with out A\C and Heat was another thing too for me. Think we were there for maybe 2 years. Loving all the work yall are doing! ❤❤

I just watched two of your videos. Wow! That is a great undertaking remodeling a school house to become your new home. I can see why it is taking SO long. There's lots of details to look after plus you want to keep the nostalgia look of the old building where you can. I like the furniture you chose, including the old desks with the graffiti. Amazing that you can still find those chairs and the desks even today. Well keep enjoying shopping for the perfect pieces that reflect that era. I love your modern touch in the kitchen and bathroom as well. Enjoy the rest of the ride. You guys and your trades people are doing an excellent job! You have done alot yourself. I was amazed when I saw you climb the scaffold on the other video I watched where you painted the ceiling and walls, I believe. Keep up the good work and I hope you can get your rest in between. You will surely be proud of all of the work you did and the outcome when it is all DONE! What a celebration that will be. Congratulations on your purchase and the vision you have for the finished product. All of the best to you all.

I grew up on a 40 acre farm in Columbia City, IN and I love my home state. I have since moved numerous times from Japan, to Cali, to New Hampshire to Florida... I am now in the Smoky Mountains and I love it here. But Indiana will always seem like home to me!! The ppl there are some of the best in this country!! JUST as a recommendation, I would have put in an elevator from the bottom floor to the main floor so that if you do ever bring in the parents to live permanently then accessiblity would be premium. We put an elevator when we built our home for my MIL and boy am I glad we did. She fell and broke her back and her mobilty went downhill fast. Its a great investment and will definately make it easier for grandparents getting up and down floor levels. Also I liked the idea of the lockers being added as well!! I mean it is a school house after all... lol!! Great job and have the best time in your new home.. buildiing is so fun and making a place all your own is so rewarding!! Beautiful family btw!!

I just discovered your channel! My husband and I are seniors, past the age of remodeling or even moving into a new home. However, your renovation adventure is so cool! It’s fun watching the process and living vicariously! BTW, your children are the sweetest!
