Thank you for your great insights and evaluation of MK . It gives me more appreciation for the masterful performance of Mark and his great musicians. I would love to have you interview Mark and share some of his songs. He turned 75 yesterday and remains a wonderful presence in my life .
ALL Mark Knopfler songs are "story songs". He is an amazing storyteller. Please note, Mark has had a successful solo career since 1996! So this is no "come back" at all. This song says alot about playing off other musicians, live on stage. Love the whole album, it's wonderful, mature and masterful, as always.
Thank you for this reaction. MK is indeed a very underrated artist and a brilliant composer and songwriter. His live performances outshine the studio recordings and songs like Imelda, Hill Farmer's Blues, Sailing To Philadelphia, Shangri-La ou Speedway to Nazareth, just to mention a few, really shine and show his mastery of music making. You should have a look on these.
The guitarist playing rythm here is Richard Bennet who played with Neail Diamond for many years but has been in Marks band since 1996. He also played the solo on "Let your love flow" by The Bellamy Brothers
I'm a long time DS and MK fan, and Mark record almost all the song playing live as you said. And Guy Flercher tells that the first take is almost always the best one. Think about what a bunch of amazing musicians are them!!!!
I think it's John Illsley, the Dire Straits bass player, who owns the pub. Mark owns a recording studio where he does his own recordings, but it's also a commercial operation that other artists can rent. My favorites from the new album are Scavenger's Yard, This One's Not Going to End Well, and Sweeter than the Rain. I also like All Comers from the new EP.
@@HardRoutine_TOTW correction: 25 new tracks. Hopefully you got yourself new album with bonus tracks ( 5 different ones on CD- amazing ones and 5 different on LP + new EP)
Love many of the tracks on this new album and most of Mark's solo work. It might be interesting for you to check out a performance of a song from 'A Night in London' to get an idea of the direction that Mark went in musically directly following the last massive Dire Straits tour. His great versatility becomes very clear the more you discover the music he created over time.
That groove was made famous by JJ Cale. Check out Eric Clapton’s The Breeze which is a tribute to JJ. Mark contributed 2 tunes. And Mark has released 25 songs in the last month plus the Local Hero Guitar Hero thing. Lastly … story songs. Check out Boom, Like That or Why Aye Man. Both have crazy historical topics and videos.
MK never stood still. Even with dire straits he wrote 3-4 movie tracks. In the break up86-91 he played with his hero Chet Atkins and made a record( neck and neck), he founded the notting hillbillies, went on tour with EC and played from Dylan to Tina Turner with every name you come up, he played and sometimes produced the record. Now he has over 15 Movie soundtracks, made one solo album after the other followed by world tours. Every band from his Ära still plays there 70/80 songs till they die? He never ever stood still, that's the beauty and real love for music not the money! You would be astound with how many different players next to the soundtracks he has played, you will find not many!
Subscribed. Great performance and reaction! First time I have heard him. If you would like to explore more, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They are unique and have a worldwide fan base (The One). Their music has a positive and uplifting message. They have a fun and awesome performance: BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat. F.HERO) (OFFICIAL) Or more guitar featured: MAYA【Live Blu-ray/DVD「BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE -」"BLACK NIGHT"】 🖖 ❤ Or to showcase the lead singer’s amazing voice: BABYMETAL - Monochrome - Piano ver. / THE FIRST TAKE 🖖 ❤
This is Knopfler’s… tenth? eleventh? solo album post-Straits (i.e. after 1995). I haven’t listened to this latest album yet, other than one or two songs they pre-released a month or two ago, and now this song. Although the songs and their production is top notch, and you’re right his band is made up of some of the best musicians in the world and what we just saw was almost certainly recorded in 1 take, there’s a… how do I say this without sounding too negative, boring consistency come into his last few albums. There’s very few ‘surprises’ to be experienced in his music any more :-(

Yes, I would absolutely LOVE if you go to that pub and talk to Mark. Would really love to watch it! 👍👍❤️
Thanks for shining a light on new MK release. He is still brilliant and a virtuoso at any tempo.
I’d absolutely love if you went and filmed yourself speaking to Mark Knopfler or even just getting close 😂

I think David Gilmour recorded a few of his albums in Marks studio
Yes, I agree about the pub. Mark does live nearby, in the New Forest on the Solent
I also love Bad Day for a Knife Thrower, the solo outro is just pure joy.
I see, that sounds cool, I might go down there and investigate.
As well as the new album ,Mark has just released an ep called The Boy with another four great tracks....
Agreed so we have a total of 16 tracks to enjoy!

@@ekstradycja I'll have to look into that!
You should watch Mark's performance of Are We In Trouble Now from his live show called A Night in London.
Love it, Mark still has that magic touch, but where are today's musicians that can play like him.
Yeah, sadly there aren't many. 🤔
No one has ever played like mark
Great song

MK❤🎶💪❤️💪😎🙏
It would be great if you could speak with Mark
Geoff Castellucci released his new video today May 10th... You Don't Mess Around With Jim by Jim Croce.
It is absolutely amazing.

Knopfler have a special nod for JJ Cale in this, his early influence and playing-model.
👏👏👏👏👏👏🇪🇦
Keep going listen to the new album songs please❤, I really like the song SCAVENGERS YARD🙏🏼
I listened to the whole album yesterday and this one also stood out to me!

10th solo album if you don't count the 9 movie soundtrack albums
Not necessarily boring, but listening to the whole album in one go is tiring. Each song seems slower than the last.
If you will meet Mark directly I it will be insane. it’s my dream to talk with Mark🥹
I'll try and investigate a bit more about the jam session he apparently runs.
