Chris is the only reason top gear is still on the air imo . Man’s an incredible natural gifted driver with knowledge to match . 👏
AND, perhaps more significantly, he's prepared to back up his attitude and statements, with reasons and even the principles from which he makes a judgement. Some (many?) auto journos - and _sometimes_ Jack Rix is amongst them - very easily falling in line with the hype, and are a bit too easily enthused by yet another product, soundbite, media release, acceleration time. 🤷🏼♂️😒
True. I hate paddy. Just makes me sick.
He’s raced in the Nurburgring 24 hour; one of the most challenging, competitive, and dangerous endurance races in the world.
Not a lie.
I agree, without Chris there would be no top gear right now
These two men are the only reason I still watch Top Gear.
these old three men are the only reason I still watch Top Gear. Oh nvm....
I'm only sticking to watching it because of harris, he seems like the only one to not fear backlash after criticizing something.
the two other r still good, and the chemistry is there, but yh Chris is really knowledgeable & entertaining
Matt Leblanc was the best!
They're are only slightly better than Matt leblanc and crew, but will never hold a candle to May, Clarkson and Hammond
Chris Harris brilliant as usual. He talks, we pay attention.
Fatherless degenerate
I suggest going over to Nico Rosberg's channel where he picks up his Rimac and talks to Mate Rimac. Amazing car, Chris isn't wrong when he talks about the power of this thing!
🤣Yup, poor Mate had eyes like pickles on a fork a couple of times.
Chis Harris is so freakin articulate that he could talk about a reliant robin and it be gripping.
Unlike the Reliant Robin itself, for which gripping was never a strong point 😄

Chris is an absolute legend of the car world, top gear would be nothing without this man, yes paddy and Fred are funny but Chris is clearly the brains in the trio and damn he can drive
That 4-wheel drift was just simply astonishing and amazing piece of film.
Many things have been said about the different line ups on TG since the OG's left, but i truly think that TG is in good hands with Chris, Paddy and Freddie. They have the same chemistry as the OG's, the same love for each other and the same feeling to the show...although Paddy does get a bit high in the voice stakes when he gets excited :)
It's nice to hear good words about Rimac.
Go Mate!! 🇭🇷
Btw. saying Rimac - eng. is Rimatz
That is true but still much like Dacia (Da-chia) English people will say it how we see it so many people will say "Day-cia" much like we say "Ri-mac"

The one thing I really want to see from the Nevera are some lap records. Drag races have been done to death. I want to see it on a circuit and see how well it performs.
Yup, every carmaker is over-juicing and overstuffing their EVs with horsepower and batteries. EV sports cars now heavier than pickup trucks. lol
4,740 lbs. curb weight. The car is only 20 lbs. lighter than the Plaid Model S. Even the Model S LR is lighter by 200 lbs. And this is supposed to be a sports car made almost out of carbon fiber components, including wheels.
Use your brain and try to think about why a car over two tons won't be as fast as cars that weight, you guessed - much less.
Mate Rimac said that some track times will start to be released next week. Considering the amount of crazy technology in this car, the weight really shouldn't be much of a problem, if I recall correctly many reviewers said it doesn't feel as heavy as it actually is.
@@intersanctum Lotus Evija Fittipaldi weighs less than 4K lbs.
NIO EP9 weighs less than 4K lbs.
The Nevera, in a bid to beat Musk's vaporware Roadster specs stuffed everything he could find into the Nevera. Now the car is as heavy as a small cathedral.
@@TheGrejp You can't beat physics. I'll be surprised if the car breaks the 7 minute mark at the Nürburgring.
What I really wanted to know about was the driving dynamics. Despite the Chiron’s weight, Chris said it was one of the most dynamically complete cars he’s driven, after punting it down that mountain road in Oman. I’m curious how the Nevera stacks up in that respect.
I just don't know if Chris is capable to give a truelly unbais appraisal as he has voiced his distain for all EVs on numerous occasions.
I'd imagine it's good. It's electric so weight balance and centre of gravity are probably ideal
I’m sure all will be revealed on the show tonight.
I take it back, Top Gear tonight was quite balanced, however, the RUclips video had different undertones.
@@raymondsmith9936 I was expecting you to say something about his love for Porsche instead of his disdain for EVs. I think he said it all when he mentioned the Porsche acquisition. He thinks the car is amazing but misses the noise.
Driving a slow car fast is a million times more fun than driving a fast car slow.
Exactly
Absolutely drifting my BMW active Tourer walking sideways on 4 tires was more fun then my MG V8 keeping the power down in a high speed corner and hoping there was no oil spill.
It sounds like a good quote, however the reality is I'm choosing driving the Lambo Hurricane slowly, over going fast in a fiat punto all day and for eternity. As are 99.999% of people.

Here after Steve Sutcliffe's Evo review of the Nevera and the Chiron Sport. I'm surprised that Chris feels the Never has "no personality" when it seemed to completely win over Sutcliffe's heart. And I greatly respect both of their opinions when it comes to driving dynamics and enjoyment. Perhaps it comes down to personal preference.
Please Top Gear, just get Chris and Tiff on the show together and ill watch again.
I love great engine sounds, but I just can’t get over how people are crying over it. They would lose a race to an ev, but what? Their car sounded better tho? 🙄
I don't think anyone ever cares about losing to an EV. When a tesla races your V8 mustang at a light, do you really care that it takes off and disappears before you can even shift into second gear? I wouldn't. Because that's all the fun the tesla driver can have.

"What it does to conventional hyper cars, is humbling"
Let's see these $2M EV hypercars on the Nürburgring. Straight line speed is boring. The Plaid Model S does that with frunk, trunk and seating for five. NIO still holds the record. VW ID.R is a prototype, so doesn't count. I suspect the Evija will be a better car than Rimac. Nevera is bloated and heavy at 4,740 lbs.
Where I live, the Rimac or the Pininfarina would make great daily drivers. Would never replace my ICE cars. As fun as they would be for their insane acceleration, you can't replace the sound and feeling of an engine roaring and ripping thru gears.

Chris you r a legend, the heart of top gear. I agree the Rimac is fast... very fast. But I really would like to hear your opinion if next year you get the chance to drive both the Koenigsegg Jesko and Gemera. Especially the Gemera with its 70 kg 600hp 3 cylinder engine plus electric that combines to give 1700+hp. 0-100 1.9sec and limited to 400km/h....and its a 4 seater. I actually thought the review was really dumbed down. Which probably isn’t CH fault. But really he showed how fast it was in a straight line and that it will slide. Nothing about how it actually handled, stopped, steared etc. does it feel heavy?l because it is by this sort of things standards. I have always thought CH should be allowed to do a proper review of stuff on RUclips for top gear for those that want more than just WOW FAST! and Look smoke! To elaborate on the TV stuff.

The first time I saw Chris, I knew that this guy is a genius at what he does. Awesome ❤️🔥
When does a full video of him driving comes ?
Well this went a lot better than the last time a short man drove a Roman quickly
Clarkson used to use Golf GTI to show how fast are Lamborghini.
Chris Harris used Lamborghini to show how fast Nevera is.
Rimac played it well to be the first on the market. They'll sell all their units, and they'll have made their money on the Nevera project. But what happens to the other companies? What can they do to make their electric hypercar different? The sound of the engine isn't there. The cylinder count or displacement isn't there. The weight distribution isn't there. The knife's edge driving experience like the Carrera GT isn't there. The manual gearbox isn't there.
I don't know how the hypercar can survive since they're currently unpleasant to give full beans, and it's pointless adding any more beans to the pot because it will be even more unpleasant.
Is there really that much difference between the various combustion-engined supercars? Fossil fuel blows up, car leaps forward. Whatever.
There will always be a small market for expensive limited edition cars simply to fill the spaces in the ultra-rich's 20-car garages. What's more interesting is what the incredible performance of $120,000 Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Sapphire have done to more affordable sports cars. Where is the nimble lighter-weight EV sports car that people in comments keep saying they want? I assume sports car manufacturers are finding it hard to do better than a practical five-seater sedan.
Volkswagen I.D.R. or Rimac Nevera would you sit in a track race?
Guardiola is driver now?
Rimac v F1… now I want to see that!

Are the background bricks upside down?
Electric cars need a bit of theatre too. In combustion engine cars it's that obnoxious explosion thing. Electric cars need space-age drama. I realized this when I saw the hydrogen Hyperion. I thought, this is it. Electric cars need to go sci-fi to have a personality. Call it silly, call it theatrical, call it artificial... And I will agree. But that's what you want if you miss the combustion engine spectacle.
Where’s the frigging footage.

This is the same conversation as comparing it to evolution in anything. People are just too accustomed to car sounds for over 100 years, it will change soon
Being a contrarian, I do love a little muted power over something that's all shout and no go. Electric should be a blast, if they weren't so economically poor buys
Top gear will never be the same without original 3
I think that the "party piece" moving forward may have been discovered by Ariel. The extenders. Engines that produce power to extend range/recharge the battery. I mean Ariel just decided to strap a turbine engine but I could see halving the battery in many of these cars and adding a small generator and tank to either double you range or enter fun mode. It wouldn't be needed for day to day driving so it could skirt some of the laws and bring back some pop.IT isn't a gas powered car... it is an electric car with a gas generator. Big difference.
Range extenders have been tried, like the BMW i3. The problem is if the car is moving, the engine has to propel the car as well as recharge a depleted battery, and that can't be done with acceptable performance by a small range extender. To quote another commenter @ams6745, the Ariel Hipercar prototype's "47 hp range extender seems probably smaller than desirable. That is only 33 KW, and running at 75 mph at 350 wh/mi (might be worse with that aero...) requires 26 KW. Legitimately not enough power to contribute meaningfully to recharge at hwy speeds"
If you make the engine powerful enough to move the car, you've just built another plug-in hybrid, and despite the benefits, they are comprehensively outsold by pure BEVs in every market.
@@skierpage So the math currently going on with a vehicle like the Ford Lightening is 1 KW/ Mile at 70 MpH while towing. on a vehicle already that size how big of a generator is needed to do nothing but charge the battery to up the millage to an acceptable range? NO it does not need to power the wheels directly, the engine only needs to be a generator which could minimize size and cost and make more efficient. don't get me wrong, there is an issue on when it triggers and how much it can power/recharge the battery and things like that, but there is also an incentive for it as well. Electric motors are more efficient per watt of power that gas engines are thermally are and converting it to the wheels. The possibility to increase efficiency by focusing on what each system does most efficiently is something to put time into.
@@nelspaulson3099 so in that case the generator needs to produce 70 kW (93 horsepower) plus efficiency losses just to keep the vehicle moving down the highway, so there's little excess available to charge the battery. A small range extender can move the vehicle or recharge the battery, but it's hard to do both, as I wrote. It works better if you're stopping and starting in the city, but then charging while parked is practical.
Nissan's e-Power drivetrain sounds like what you're proposing: optimize the engine to be a generator for a motor, avoiding Toyota/Ford/Honda/Volt's efficient but complicated hybrid transmission to send a blend of motor and engine power to the wheels. But it's not successful and Nissan has never put it in a plug-in car. Many novel small generators for electric cars have been proposed including motorcycle engines, rotary engines, and turbines; none have made it to market.
@@skierpage we may have slightly different definitions of recharging here. It has gone to market on some very small boutique levels but nothing serious by a big manufacturer. Again it would come down to how the laws are written. That kind of extender might skirt the EV laws coming into effect over the next decade.
And you do not needed it to fully power the drivetrain, just assist to extend the battery. There are probably a dozen ways to do it and it would probably depend on what type of vehicle(sports car, sedan, truck, etc ) as to what works best.

Top Gear is an institution built on how fast cars accelerate, but you have to find it hypocritical that when an electric car outpaces an internal combustion equivalent, they pivot and say that accelerate is no longer the metric to aim for.... Now its driving dynamics and noise that is the goal to aim for....
The whole car industry is built on trying to convince the public to spend more on a faster accelerating version.
Acceleration is one of life's simple pleasure, at the traffic lights or pulling away from a junction.
The only difference is with a ICE car pedestrians mouth the words tw*t, but in a stealthy EV no-one notices.
