Why won’t Chris let Jack talk 😅 I know the video is about Chris’s feedback on the car but man maybe you can let Jack finish his sentence for once? Other than that I loved the banter as always. These 2 should be the only ones on new Top Gear. Take Jack back from the magazine department!
This is good to hear. I was worried, I don’t know why, that the Amg one wasn’t a special car when say compared to the Valkyrie or sf90. Glad to hear it is
As of November 2022, only Top Gear, carwow, and Shmee150 has access to the AMG ONE. Mat's review is not that bad, but Chris's review is great. I never clicked on Shmee's video though.
The fact they had a back up car ready to go tells me they were anticipating problems. If merc/amg truly felt ready, they wouldn't have needed the back up.
Chris is the best. He is honest and to the point. If it's great, he'll tell you. If it's not, no fear, he'll tell you the bad and in an understandable way. He is the only reason I still watch the show to be honest.
Not that my opinion matters and not that they won't sell them all...but it's hard to remember the last time I cared less about a new supercar than this one (I guess some of the "me too" all electric vaporware fall in that category). Very odd to work so hard to get that engine to work when nobody particularly loves the current F1 powertrains (even if they are incredible technical showcases). Frankly, it doesn't even seem like it's moved the needle much beyond the 918. Put the 918 on custom developed versions of the latest rubber and it seems like they'd probably be in a similar ballpark. Perhaps I'm just jaded by them blowing the initial projections by so much that it seems like a complete failure in my eyes.
Once everyone gets past how underwhelming the launch of the car was, and looks at it for what it is, they’ll realize it’s a really good car, feel the same way about the Valhalla, it’s nothing like the concept, but damn it’s still gonna be a great car
900,000 US dollar for an engine rebuild, not sure how many owners would pass run-in mileage. An F1 engine in a road car, the first thing I think of is still the F50.
Best car people: Chris Harris, Henry Catchpole, Harry Metcalfe. If that was Top Gear it would be successful again, but that ship has sailed. Thanks to Harry, Chris and Henry
Its funny that Chris calls out the shift speed. Saw a video of the AMG One on the Nordschleife, and the first thing I thought (other than blindingly fast it was) was that the shifting seemed slow (by hypercar standards.
It's undriveable though, unless you have a team of mechanics to follow you around to keep it moving! Where is it useable? A: Track? Not unless you have a team of AMG mechanics in the pit! B: On the Road? You;ll be lucky if it even works let alone gets you home!
I love that beast even more. Mercedes truly has created something unique. When a guy like Chris can't even understand his own emotions in a car meaning he has never seen anything like it and that's what sets a car apart from another.

Strangely for a road car that sounds too quiet for a hypercar on the outside, it's infernally loud on the inside. That and the Valkyrie are two of a kind in how loud it is inside.
The F50 has a F1 based 60 valve V12 engine, and it's actually built like a F1 car. Engine and gearbox bolted to a carbon tub, acting as stressed members with the suspension bolted directly to them. One day it will surpass the McLaren F1 in value i reckon.
It won't, doesn't have a racing history, that's what sets these cars apart. This AMG-One might though since it has a historic racing history, 7 consecutive championship in a row, more than any team in history
@@richboy900True, but the F1 doesn't have a prancing horse, and wasn't built by the most recognised, most famous car brand of them all. Oh, and it has a plain BMW V12, not a Formula One derived engine. As a pure, unfiltered driving experience, the F50 is the one to have.
It's plugged with torque. Just like Koenigsegg with their torque converter. Christian Von Koenigsegg would've taken an F1 engine to put into a car and have it work no problem as he is a genius.
As much as I hate conversation about the love for the internal combustion engine with owners of hateful medium sized diesel SUVs, I can respect an effort to make something special. Albeit them being meaningless toys for rich people barely using them.
Imagine paying millions of pounds to have a turbocharged hybrid car that has lag while changing gears.. Though I respect the AMG One and AMG in general because despite the difficulties, they went on and did it. Some consumer advice : - if you want the best on the road: buy a Carrera GT or an LFA or a T.50 - if you want speed on a race track : buy a Bentayga, a trailer and a race car
The whole 'F1 Engine in a road car' is a bit of a fallacy. Pretty much everything about it is different to the F1 PU other than the basic block and configuration. The F1 track spec ICE is actually producing more in the region of 800-900bhp on it's own (compared to the 560bhp in the :One) as the MGU-K is only allowed to deploy around 160bhp (and only in short bursts) and the MGU-H doesn't actually deploy any motive power directly as it is used as an anti-lag system to keep the turbo spooled in low rev situations. Having a ~600bhp formula 1 car for most of the lap just doesn't make sense! The hybrid element is so much more powerful on the :One compared to the race car, with the 2 extra motors driving the front wheels making up most of the difference in power output compared to the F1 spec ICE. Yes, the headlines are the same. But beneath the skin, the :One is a whole different animal.

I think it is great that the car has quirks and characters just like race cars have. The cars are so perfect nowadays. The car that we idolize from the past all had character.
Best Motoring Journalist ever. Theres probably an hours worth of information communicated here in only 8 minutes. Oh, and the car sounds quite interesting.
Still go to respect Mercedes and AMG, they are like an unstoppable force of smiles per mile with this One!
I assume you can still use the radio if you're just going down the road to visit your family, cruising on the two electric motors.
It has 4 electric motors
Why won’t Chris let Jack talk 😅 I know the video is about Chris’s feedback on the car but man maybe you can let Jack finish his sentence for once? Other than that I loved the banter as always. These 2 should be the only ones on new Top Gear. Take Jack back from the magazine department!
That's what I said, Chris cuts everyone off, even the head of GT at Porsche. This man is brute.
Bravo Mercedes for the courage to do this
Chris is the best. He is honest and to the point. If it's great, he'll tell you. If it's not, no fear, he'll tell you the bad and in an understandable way. He is the only reason I still watch the show to be honest.
Somebody please tell the set designer that the bricks are upside down 😂
Just give Chris his own show, would be amazing
HarrisC is the best automotive journalist there has been for years (in my opinion…and I’m a patrol head)
Love these videos. There should be more of this!! They even set up the chairs and everything
900,000 US dollar for an engine rebuild, not sure how many owners would pass run-in mileage. An F1 engine in a road car, the first thing I think of is still the F50.
Engine not sound
F50 was a terrible car and if you can afford 2.7 million usd for a car than 900k doesn't seem like a problem
The F50 is a great car, but still not many reviews on it. All these years later.
The f50 hasn't really got an F1 engine. They changed the capacity, revs etc...
rather than tens of millions of dollars on rebuilding the engines f1 race cars, i'll take the $900k
Best car people: Chris Harris, Henry Catchpole, Harry Metcalfe.
If that was Top Gear it would be successful again, but that ship has sailed.
Thanks to Harry, Chris and Henry
Chris Harris is the Gordon Ramsey of motor journalism
I could listen to Chris Harris talking about cars for an eternity.....
I respect mercedes perseverance on delivering the One regardless if its 5 years to late.
I remember when we used to say "there's no substitute for cubes!" Looks like that's changed now.
We need more Chris Harris drives
I have a problem with this car and the "road-legal" records they claim. The track-mode in the car is NOT road-legal! What do you guys think?
I love that beast even more. Mercedes truly has created something unique. When a guy like Chris can't even understand his own emotions in a car meaning he has never seen anything like it and that's what sets a car apart from another.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie says hello
@@michaeltrumph121 Aston Martin Valkyrie is "the last of the v12s" for about 15 years of the lasts of the v12s but the AMG one is a totally different sort of beast I brings something unique to the streets
@@michaeltrumph121 I bet you didn't hear anything Chris Harris said. Chris as one of the car Gods said he couldn't make out the mechanicals he was hearing driving the One. Well that's because it is pretty much a road legal F1 car, put Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg in there! I bet you they would know exactly what they are hearing, there is a lot more than driving a beast like this, the emotions and the sound is something that cannot be duplicated. The Valkyrie is a masterpiece, but no matter how much power or whatever you do to it, it will NEVER EVER have the uniqueness of the Mercedes-AMG-One. If you don't get that you are not a car guy.
@@lovelehstuff
The Valkyrie looks and sounds a million times better.
This AMG One has a garbage engine inside it.
@@CanyonsCarver
The Valkyrie is superior to this garbage in every way.
It has a proper supercar engine, an NA V12, not a garbage vacuum cleaner like the AMG One.
A 1.6 litre turbo ?! I'd be ashamed to even tell someone if my supercar had that engine inside it. It's puny and sounds like shit compared to a NA V12.
In short it doesn't always work but it's incredible. It's literally and f1 car.
Mercedes CEO: “We were drunk” when AMG One hypercar was approved. "I'm sure we were drunk when we said yes," Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius joked to media about the company's F1-powered One hypercar, nearly five years after it was revealed to the world.May 23, 2022
Strangely for a road car that sounds too quiet for a hypercar on the outside, it's infernally loud on the inside. That and the Valkyrie are two of a kind in how loud it is inside.
It is not that quite on the outside, trust me you can hear it coming and it sounds nice, just not super loud
Is not about how loud, LFA it self not louder than 911 gt3 RS. It's about the sound it plays.
I was so excited for this car but the fact that it isn't street legal in the US essentially makes it irrelevant
God I could watch Chris talk all day
"look at these cup holders!" Words I never thought I'd hear from someone in a car as it goes down a 45 degree slope.
@@CanyonsCarver RIP F50 GT. One of the greatest race cars that never got to race
It won't, the F1 is three times as rare and has more Motorsport pedigree. Especially the F1 LM
Chris Harris.... The only person worth watching on top gear...
this is the reason i watch top gear
It's plugged with torque. Just like Koenigsegg with their torque converter. Christian Von Koenigsegg would've taken an F1 engine to put into a car and have it work no problem as he is a genius.
Which is better , this amg one or the Valkyrie?
Chris is a national treasure 🏴
No st goarge flag thanktou
Hi guys it's shmeeeeeeeeeee look what I've just bought!
Don’t even joke. Can’t stand the smug so and so.
Woopo
With the lisp.. 🥴
😁
Showing off your car collection is usually better than storing it away from pyring eyes, but that guy does it with such a smugness that is unbearable!
I love his honesty
Imagine top gear with clarkson, harris and Jason cammisa. Perfect tv
The dude wants to say to Chris say the Valkyries better than the project one
Can someone explain to me why the upshifts line this car when pushing on sound slow and changing gear?
This guy I can listen to him explaining how is """ anything Cars """ 1000000 time.
Harris...oder the Top.....He just cant lie💪🏆
Would love to see a program with Chris, Jonny Smith and Harry Metcalfe. Proper petrolheads, seasoned journalists
T50 all day. If the T50s could be converted to be road legal, that would be insane. Similar to the AM Vulcan conversion.
As much as I hate conversation about the love for the internal combustion engine with owners of hateful medium sized diesel SUVs, I can respect an effort to make something special. Albeit them being meaningless toys for rich people barely using them.
I mean thats the case for pretty much all hypercars
Yes, I have heard you say it before.
Super cool to hear the BTS about the shoot... As the car did not seem finished from the other journo videos from that day lol
Imagine paying millions of pounds to have a turbocharged hybrid car that has lag while changing gears.. Though I respect the AMG One and AMG in general because despite the difficulties, they went on and did it.
Some consumer advice :
- if you want the best on the road: buy a Carrera GT or an LFA or a T.50
- if you want speed on a race track : buy a Bentayga, a trailer and a race car
Chris Harris on... but where the hell is he, driving the car? We all know every "something" about the AMG One, since 2017/2018,F1 engine, carbon fiber everywhere and bla, bla, bla, but we all wanted to know actually, the impressions, the feelling, the touching with a truly and one of the world best car journalist with the very experience of racing driver, such Mr.Harris. Thank you.
What a great talk , straight to the big question, do you need a formula 1 for the road ?
Manny khosbin is going to be happy , his AMG one is coming soon to his garage
So the way this is unique compared to the Valkyrie isnt speed or savageness, it is how slow and confusing the gear changes are because of electricity management? Uh, nah thanks. I ll happily have a Valkyrie over this any day of the week.
Chris makes you feel that you are in the car with him...who would have tought that AMG One is noisier inside than AM Valkyrie 🤷
I dream about show where Chris rants on all hypercars out there...we want more 😎
An F1 engine is not something for the road, its 2 very different things, an F1 engine is a prima ballerina and the road needs a long distance runner.
Chris AMG should talk with Porshe LMP1 to correct the issues of the AMG 1
