I got me a good set of snap ring pliers and have enjoyed them now on two different jobs. next is going to be putting the bearing back on the disc after the parts get here. thanks for video.
Yep, cheap snap ring pliers are VERY frustrating. I've spent too many hours screwing around with them. I'm looking forward to the next bearing video, good job on that bud!
I have mine apart now. I got mad and pulled the shaft. l used a large pair of vise-grips and tapped on them to pull it out. Once removed you'll get 2 more cups of oil out of the transmission. When you look in you can see the rear collar and if it comes out with the shaft it shouldn't be an issue to get back together. Mine stayed in. The shaft is 34 inches long. Mine was bent .040", don't know why but it only costs about 80 bucks so i replaced it. Interesting about using 2seal replacement. What a pain of a job as mine is a cabbed machine. I'd you raise the forward part of the cab up 2 inches you can remove those upper bellhou sing bolts. Thank you for the video it really helped. Only commenting for those that wanted to remove the shaft and didn't dare, go 4 it!
My dad paid the dealer $1500 to do this looks like it was worth it lol but I hit a rock, put a hole in the pan didn't know and blew the motor so now I'm splitting it to rebuild it
when i was working on mine lol seal replacement the shaft fell off i was thorwing a fit i slowly pulled it out, the cupling stayed in the tractor.. there is the fix for it now TA040-98001 - TA040-98000 ohh my tractor is a l4200
I did have a link to the manual for this tractor in the description, but they took it down. You're probably just as good at looking things up on the internet as me. Sorry!
I go through a couple a year usually. It's better to wreck a cheap tool to get the job done, then to spend hours trying to not break a $2.99 dental pick! Lol. It's a dry clutch, although I would prefer a wet clutch.
Thanks for the advice. I was told by the dealer not to allow the shaft to come out, as it would require splitting the back half to get it back into place. I don't know if that's true or not, but I wasn't willing to try it. Have a good one!
I actually just put my tractor back together after splitting all three parts. I can tell you for a fact that if there is no bearing or seal on that four-wheel-drive shaft then you are able to sight through the hole and place it back into the coupling fairly easily. I will say that the coupling on the inside could slide off and fall into the transmission case I think that you could possibly retrieve it with a magnet if that happened. I placed my coupling first and then when I got to the front of the tractor and then inserted the four-wheel-drive shift into the coupling and did not remove it.
Yeah I was pretty upset when I found out what the problem actually was. Engineering oversight! The job actually wasn't that bad. I had never split a tractor before either. Thanks for watching!

No No do NOT remove shaft ,I removed mine and the coupler fell off ,now I get to split the next part!!

i think the guy was right i pulled my shaft out too far and i am trying to fish it back into place now....

Next time use vice grips with a rag on the shaft and hit the vice grips lightly and the whole shaft will come out with seal and sleeve as a. Assembly
