Hi Woody, Adrian Scott here. I must admit, I am a fan of your channel. I would love to chat with you. Rest assured your Indian friend has no claim on my music. Feel free to send an iMessage. All the best, Adrian.
Hello Adrian, I think this is genuine, it looks like you in the avatar image... and I think you're from Oz, If so, wow, I'm humbled that you stopped by and I'd like to thank you personally for your involvement with the D-series synths and the incredible D20 demo song, that I used to play live when my band entered the stage... :D Well you already know the story here, hit me up on email if you want to get involved and need details, but honestly, I wouldn't want you wasting any of your time on it! All the best ❤️
Just contact Roland and ask them to claim copyright on the indian video... Another way is to pitch tonality of the demo song more than 1 full tone without changing the tempo and youtubes database will not recognize the song anymore at all !
Curious, can potential ‘copyright holders’ still make claim? Like they did back in the 1990s with the use of samples in hip hop/electronica that were pitched and altered yet still recognizable? Beastie Boys ‘Paul’s Boutique’ LPcome to mind with all the sample litigation that came from it. Then there is the similar style or compositional similarity copyright claims that have had legal merit and against some artists (Led Zeppelin, Katy Perry, et al). It’s all a murky mess which trickles down to everyone on RUclips using or playing music.
@Mediacoustics Multimedia Changing the pitch of a song used to work a long time ago. Channels used by DJs would post hundreds of song tracks with higher pitch all the time, but now, they are recognized too it seems. RUclips is quickly going to ruins with all of their moronic regulations, policies and unfair, politically biased censorship.
Roland wouldn't do this as its bound to open a whole other can of worms. They could just declare their demo material public domain, free for all to use. This really needs a human judge, not these automated buracrates.
The irony of someone claiming copyright on a song they ripped off is quite amazing. But not a surprise. Try not to let this kind of bullshit get to you. You produce fantastic content and your fans will always support you in whatever way we can.
I got a copyright claim when I roasted my own track a while back, turns out that someone had stolen my track and released it under his own alias lol. The track I made is absolute garbage, the fact that some tragic human being thought it was worth stealing really says a lot about that person.
@@adamrobinson8620 I don't think its chance. If they were honest they would not accept this. Only a level of dissonestly allows them to claim a copy right breech. So its more than likely a deliberate exploit. When was that song created, that would be your first clue, the song employs an old sound, is it as old as the tech used to create the song, is it post youtube? These are all questions that should be asked..
@@chrisliddiard725 I’m sure it’s deliberate, and really damaging. I’m partly interested because I was working on a concept for a channel, and this would kill it. I’m just looking for a way to fight back.
Actually it is not. It is a "mostly working" solution to a very difficult problem. It mainly goes wrong with music that was not uploaded to content ID by the original author. In the case of public domain (classical) music, this is usually easy to solve. In my experience disputes in this case are in most cases resolved correctly. The problem is contemporary music which is under copyright, but the original copyright owners don't manage it properly. In this case anyone can cheaply publish an own version using services like Distrokid or Soundrop and monetize all of RUclips. There is no easy solution for this.
Rest assured, its not about the rom demo. This happens even on fully original music. The system is just too easy to abuse, anyone can claim anything. I get claims on videos every now and then even though I only upload 100% original content. No one has ever dared to escalate when claim is countered though. As long as RUclips's default stance is to side with the fraudulent claimers by default nothing will change. Guilty until proven innocent.
A classic one that I recall was when a synth channel did a simple filter sweep to demo the filter on an analog synth review video. That got flagged and claimed bc a record from the '70s (iirc) opens with a generic (but novel at the time) synth filter sweep. I think the channel might have been Sonic State. Algos are only as smart or uncorrupt as the people writing them (or rather, paying for them). I'd love to see gov step in to make YT and other social platforms put together more fit-for-purpose Terms of Use, a correct enforcement of good copyright law, including Fair Use/Fair Dealing exemptions, and with reasonable and proper rules around conflict and conflict resolution. Too many people are routinely screwed over by ambiguous and yet draconian rules, with opaque, ignorant and callous rules around counter-claiming and rebuttals that always seem to be easy for the dishonest to exploit.
Yeah I've had this happen before also on an ambient synth piece I completely improv-ed and they told me it sounded like a video that didn't sound like it one bit but I lost so I took my video down.
Angry, frustrated, disgusted. I really feel for you and other people affected by these events. Have you contacted Roland regarding the track or Adrian Scott himself? If it turns out the 'Artist' claims it is their own work could action by taken against this? I'm sorry for you, as you make highly informative and fun videos which I'm sure myself and other viewers have and will continue to enjoy. Best wishes, David
I WOULD BET my main daw, with a ryzen 5950x, 128Gb ram and 7000MB/s M.2 drive THAT the guy/guys BEHIND THIS, are THE SAME disgusting, ugly, miserables pieces of shit with 2cm long dicks, THAT SCAM millions of Americans with Amazon gift cards...directly from.... INDIA. Because only dirty pieces of shit like that, who have the courage to scam 85yo ladies, would be strong enough to claim copyright rights on.. synth presets and demos. So infuriating...!
As more mentioned. Marcus Fuller was also hit by a similar scam including a Roland demo song. Whats missing from YT is the possibility to report fraudulent use of their copyright features....
A couple of points that I did not raise on the video - 1) In the claimant's defense, they might not know that their song uses material owned by Roland/Adrian. However, I made this very clear in my dispute and they still chose to uphold their claim. Lost in translation, or fraud? 2) These scams succeed because channel owners are intimidated and afraid to submit a dispute. Submitting a dispute with inadvertent incorrect information can result in the channel being terminated. Content creators probably don't have deep knowledge of copyright law and are understandably reluctant to take this risk, which is what the fraudsters take advantage of. 3) I have not contacted Roland because I do not want to waste their resources on an issue affecting my video. I have friends in Roland that are subscribed to the channel so they probably know about it now, if they weren't aware of it before. 4) Don't worry, I'm not too bummed out about this, I realise that there are bigger issues most of us have to face on a daily basis! 5) I apprecita your engagement in the comments. Because of my ignorance and lack of knowledge on copyright law I will not respond to comments this time. I will, as always, read them all. Thank you so much for your understanding! ❤️
I'd say Roland would be able to help, they must have a Copyright Team anyway, for the real reasons, and should be able to help as it is in their own interrest - you helped promote their gear :)
@@OctavianVesa I'd imagine they don't really have the ability to pursue and shut down some random indian singer from the 90s, perhaps not financially worth the effort. But I have a few great guys and girls from Roland who follow this channel, so they are aware of it now.
@@WoodyPianoShack I totally get that, they would need a lsrge team to fight trolls, however thay may help you with the permission to use the Roland synth tunes, which will deffinitely help your cause
@@WoodyPianoShack I don't think they need a whole team or much time either. Just a few lines from an official Roland (on behalf of Scott) email with a screenshot of that manual, and a standard cease and desist, and it's done. Don't forget that in this case, it's Roland who would decide over a dispute. After all, this Erik makes them no money and no publicity, unlike you.
Please don't diminish yourself; you may not be the largest synth channel on RUclips, but you're definitely more valuable to Roland than an author that steals their copyrighted material, claiming it "their own", and has only 39 views on a video. I'm sure videos you created helped drive sale of Roland's products (directly or indirectly).
I FULLY stand with you Woody! I've experienced several similar situations myself. I did a new remake and slight remix of Adrian's Leya's song a few years ago (Leya's Daughter) which got a similar claim - partially within the song. And the segment they claimed were NOTHING at all like the song they claimed it against! So I did what you did, and disputed hard! I wrote a lengthy "dissertation" on my song, the original from Adrian Scott/Roland and compared it with links etc to the crappy song (it was REALLY crappy too) they meant I had infringed. And luckily for me, it just disappeared. I even got positive comments and thumbs up on the song from both Adrian Scott and Penny Dyer who he used to record the doos and the line at the end of the original W-30 demo song! ;) And so far, that's been the only copyright claim in this direction. I have on the other hand had many going the other way, where people steal or reupload my music everywhere. Everyone can use my music for their videos as long as the video is like this one, with talking, streaming games etc AND they credit the use of the music in the video and links in the description. Straight up stealing and uploading my content as their own - even if they just want to "help" me get more plays (as plays on someone else's channel would ever help me..?!? Djeez!)... is just not right! So I strike down hard on that. Furthermore, I also had something else and strange happen recently. My Topic channel or Music channel if you will (from Distrokid releases) seemed to be hijacked or hacked by someone changing it from Anders Enger Jensen to Hannah Hilton! All my music was there to be found, but under Hannah's name. I noticed it before Christmas last year, and it took me a while to figure out what was happening. It escalated to the point that I got some notifications from Hannah Hilton (as it would be my topic channel actually) were going live one night. I was perplexed and wondered what the hell that was. And it was a seven hour long live stream about some crypto currency... and it was "The stream starts soon" for seven hours! This of course triggered all my alarm bells and I knew something foul was at play. So I managed to get in touch with the RUclips team and talk to a guy called Michael - I was impressed, because you rarely ever get to talk to some real people in these big companies these days, right? Anyway, I did gather a lot of screenshots, urls and other data that I figured would help and submitted it to them. What seemed to have happened, was that it's possible to spoof the links to youtube channels and I assume put placeholder channels instead of the one you're actually trying to find. Because searching for "Anders Enger Jensen" should give you my main channel AND the Topic/Music channel on the right column usually. And there my name was correct. When clicking on it, you first go to Hannah Hilton showing all my music and later on that was replaced with this crypto currency channel. So my music was actually intact and not affected, it was only the links being re-directed to this other channel. Kinda like telephone number or email spoofing that is. It took just a matter of hours and suddenly, everything was right. So it seems Michael and the RUclips team did their job and took my case seriously. Thankfully! And hopefully this can be of use should you or other artists experiencing the same problems - links can be spoofed and they can redirect the traffic from your music. Hope you get to resolve this case, it's highly infuriating by proxy. It's not lots of money but the damn principle. It's your content, and partly Adrian Scott/Roland's - not this Indian fella who I'm 100% sure did NOT get permission to use a factory demo as a backing track for his release! SMH!
I have been accused of copyright infringement by RUclips's content ID program three times in total. However, all of them were wrong, and all of them were my original copyrighted works (my own compositions). Despite this, there was never a single apology from RUclips, they just mechanically kept me on standby for 30 days and mentally exhausted me for 30 days. Yes, it is exactly the same fact that you have experienced. Nine years have passed since then, and I feel that the clunkiness of the Content ID program has not improved at all, in fact, it has only gotten worse. I have now given up publishing music on RUclips and have moved to SoundCloud. I'm giving up on RUclips and moving to SoundCloud because I can't trust garbage like the Content ID program.
Even just as a listener it feels frustrating to repeatedly see great content creators have to deal with this non-sense on and on again. Can not even imagine how frustrating and outrageous the creators themselves must feel. And even big channels like Rick Beato have not managed to fight the broken system. One option I am missing in your video though: how about contacting Roland or Adrian Scott, because I think they are ripped off even more than you are. Anyway, keep up the great work!
Agree with you! Copyright protection lasts for the life of the author plus an additional 70 years. So Scott and Persing still hold their CP. Roland and/or RUclips should enforce these infringements more active.
Thanks for highlighting this issue. I’ve received copyright strikes when I’ve used GarageBand loops in tutorial videos. Fought them and won, luckily. I won’t be surprised if I get more in the future.
Hi Woody, sorry to hear about this as I really enjoy your channel. Contact Roland, as others have said, for them to pursue their own copyright claim. But don't leave it there. Suggest collaborating with Roland on a series about all their demo songs. Those of us of a certain age get nostalgic for them so it would be popular. You could look at the musical merits of the tracks, particularly the careful arrangements. What patches were used. How they juggled polyphony. Etc.. Yep, it could well throw up more instances of 'borrowing ' but that would be for Roland to deal with. And, who knows, Roland might loan you some classic gear for the project. I had (still do in storage) a D10 and U220 back in the day so remember the demo songs fondly. The D10/20 has an insane version of Flight of the Bumblebee, if I recall. Kind of miss them on modern workstations. Hope you get it sorted and remember your hard work, knowledge and enthusiasm are much appreciated.
I really like this idea. Get someone who can possibly reach the actual troll for legal punishment, rather than just one video or facade channel at a time. Seeing Woody chat with someone like Persing would also be pretty cool.
Fantastic idea, If its done with the express permision of Roland and its trips another one of these copy right claims, it would expose the scammers, Lords knows how many others they have ruled against, In fact i wonder if their track was created from the get go, with this in mind.
This has all led to absolutely absurd stylistic blossoms. Play a classical piano piece and you get a copyright warning because someone used it as background music in some weird movie. But you also have to see that censorship goes much further in other subject areas. It's high time to replace YT with something else. With the so-called social media, we see the same crap day after day.
Something that might help is if Roland were to add their demo songs into ContentID and then make claims against the folks who are erroneously claiming copyright on their content; that gives the lawyers something to take action on, and also if they then (rightfully) copyright-claim your video, the stacked claims mean that the money and control get split. And maybe Roland could use that to shut down the fraudulent copyright claims. But yeah this is a huge problem; I’ve had many of my own completely-original videos get monetized or removed by third parties because they had a drum beat that was close enough as a match, or because they owned the performance rights to a public domain song that I’d also performed. My solution to that was to just delete most of my videos in protest back when this nonsense first started, which ended up being a huge mistake for my own channel stats. Oh well.
Back in 2016 when I joined a band to play guitar, the other guitarist recorded a private RUclips video of him playing my part in one of the songs as a quick way for me to learn it. He got struck with a copyright claim on his own music, for a private video, that iirc didn't even have the full song as the backing track. RUclips has been declining for a long time now. Idk if you have other channels like on Rumble, Odysee, or other alternative video channels but RUclips can't sustain like this. Either way hope you get everything sorted!
This is what will ultimately kill RUclips if nothing is done about these 'claims'. One of my YT subscriptions is already questioning how long RUclips will survive.
I uploaded music that I composed and was my original content, and some rude individual decided to copyright my song since I never got my music protected or published to a record company, so they claimed my OWN music and then decided to strike my channel
Don't let them take it. You absolutely must either take the video down or re-upload with that music segment muted. Otherwise you're effectively supporting a broken system by letting them control and monetise other people's content - thereby helping to ensure that YT's and the claimant's shi**y behaviour continues to be rewarding.
It is very frustrating.! I've had a number of copyright claims against my videos over the years, however I have always disputed them and won. Keep up the fantastic videos pal.
During the pandemic I uploaded many online church services and got many of these ridiculous claims, mostly for hymns written in the 18th and 19th century, and submitted by obvious scammers. The system is hugely broken and RUclips needs to do something about it ASAP. I'm with those who suggested you approach Roland, or indeed Adrian directly. Good luck, mate - don't let the bastards grind you down!
A couple of years ago I had a copyright match on a music video I made for one of my own compositions. However in this instance the alleged copyrighted material was the video itself, which used scenes I had borrowed from a film which was in the public domain. The alleged copyright holder had also made a video using some of the same footage from the same public domain film and was trying to pass it off as their own property. I challenged the copyright claim and RUclips in its wisdom sided with the false claimant. I ended up having to remake and re-upload my video without the scenes that occurred in the other party's video. I still used footage from the same public domain film, just not the same parts that had been used in the other video. This time it did not trigger a copyright claim. Absolute madness.
This sucks. RUclips could easily put some energy and money into improving their system to decrease scams like this one. I'm glad you told the story. It motivated me to send you a monthly token of support through Patreon. I value what you do - thank you! 🙂
Even heavy weight YT:ers like Rick Beato are struggling with the ridiculous content claim system, what chance have "smaller" channels like yours. It is just not right that when disputing it is up to the claimant to agree. It should be a YT responsibility.
A drummer buddy of mine had a D10 that he would let me use for gigs until I bought my own XP10. We loved listening to the ROM songs and would play them while plugging things in for the nights’ show. One night we were driving around our town of Bismarck, and heard the now-familiar intro of the “Latin sounding” ROM song, by Amin Bhatia, on the radio as a jingle for a local Mexican restaurant! We were flabbergasted! They didn’t even bother to change it in any way. Lazy! This was back in the late 80’s and we should have turned them in to the publisher! Oh well. Live and learn. 😆 Love your videos, Woody! ❤️
Hi Woody. Similar thing happened to a lady on another channel I follow called The Piano Keys. She did get it resolved in the end. The video called “Victory over False Copyright Claim” can be found here: ruclips.net/video/8tJ0PzotrRg/видео.html
I recall State Azure had exactly the same thing going on some time ago. He successfully disputed though. Can’t remember the details. In any case, this is exactly why I dread posting my music on YT. And I’m just a noob with music creation. It’s sad RUclips can’t get this right, as it’s so obviously and blatantly a scam. Keep up the good work Woody. We love and appreciate you and your content!
This happened to me a few years ago as well and I eventually had to remove the video completely or have some leech continue to make money from my track. The worst part about RUclips's horrendously bad copyright claim system, is that even if I wanted to use it (which I don't), an indie artist such as myself, does not qualify to use the claim system but full blown fraudsters appear to have absolutely no problem getting accepted by RUclips. Once they've started defrauding people, good luck on getting RUclips to act.
Woody this happens quite often to me when I record a traditional melody that appears in collections from the 1700's. Then bang, I get a copyright claim as some other artist has recorded the same traditional melody and copyrighted it. I then have to through all the rigmarole of having to dispute the claim. I can fully understand your frustration as we put hours and hours into making videos and then this crops up.
I've had this done to me before. I used a preset drum pattern in a program called RMX Stylus and some dance band try to do the same thing to me. I contested it and they backed down. It's really frustrating!!
funny thing, youtuber markus fuller has the same problem with a yamaha keyboard demo song, he had a chat with one of the people who was high up in yamaha, and the response markus got, was that Yamaha programmed the demo song and owns the copyright. So it might be worth getting in touch with Roland and see what they say about these fools, and then get youtube involved.
This is why automation is risky business. Removing the human element of copyright enforcement makes it so easy for the wrong person to be getting recognition for a thing just because “they uploaded it first,” regardless of ownership. 🤦 Keep doing what you’re doing Woody! This algorithm-based digital world we’re in is still in its adolescent stages, but I believe in your integrity and passion for synthesizers and synth music will win out over the scammers in the end!
Is automation the issue? It seems rather that it is now people making claims on everything, knowing that it is just too hard to fight them and a lot of people will just let it go. They will make money for nothing. RUclips is apparently assuming any claim is right. What would be interesting is if copyright holders were to sue RUclips for unpaid royalties, regardless of what they have paid to others. Ie give them some skin in the game to work out validity of claims before honouring them. Or RUclips could take down disputed videos until the parties agree, rather than just paying the fake claimant. This might remove the financial reward to make fake claims.
been watching the channel for a few years now ,the content and videos u have produced is so good and inspiring to me ,i hope u will continue with it and move on from those claims good luck moving foward !!!!
I feel for you and all your fellow youtubers. It's just a huge shame that this is taking over youtube. Seen it on several channels now... :( Do hope you can keep on doing your videos on your channel cause i enjoy them. Best wishes.
Thank you for this video. I don’t know how your video popped up but the information in this video is highly valuable to me. It happened a couple of times to me too so I ended up just deleting the videos in question.
@@WoodyPianoShack yeah. It’s really disappointing when I experienced them. The rain sound soundtrack I created myself from my own sound effect libraries that I recorded myself from scratch about 25 years ago. Rather than having my work being enjoyed by those copyright claimers, I’d rather not give them the satisfaction of making money out of my work so I deleted the videos (a total of 3 of videos). The sad part is my channel is so new that I haven’t even monetize it yet. Regardless. Thank you again for the great video. You got yourself a subscriber !!
Hi Woody, as a subscriber to your channel from the early days, I have enjoyed countless hours watching and learning from you and your videos. Please don't get discouraged and let's all your subscribers help you do something in this case or others that may come up. I'm sure we could come up with something like everyone submitting a copyright clam on the other crowd's song, or all write a letter/email/petition to Roland so either they make a claim on that or at least them (or the original creator) to give you explicit permission to use it on your channel - that way the other side can't make any claim, as you have the proof. You're too important for a lot of people around here to give up, and this time you have other people behind you! * Update: That video is more likely a scam, as the channel has a single video (Joined Feb 4, 2022), if this was a legit company they would have a proper channel and more videos. *
I went though a copyright claim but YT did not hold it against me. The result was that they would block certain countries from seeing my video. The dispute was that the footage I used was from a 13 year old unheard of Norwegian low budget movie. I had only used parts of it and sliced it up like a toss salad to force fit it into my musical composition. I had also given full video credit to them with links and other plethora of info. Maybe this is why YT didn't strike me as it was in the open where the footage was from but was mentioned that is was heavily changed and sliced. Segments like falling knights being killed, horses running, Knights charging, knights firing arrows, etc. was used When I got the claim, there was zero views. No one seen or played my video and yet they made a claim and included the segment time stamp in question. I hunted down the director and movie personnel and emailed them to which I received no reply. Certainly my music was not in dispute. Just a segment of footage. I could have taken it out but what was the difference when more of it was still in the video? Why bother taking out 25 seconds? YT did not strike me for it and were willing to allow it to be viewed just not in Norway, Sweden, Netherlands, etc. One good thing about the music is that I compose it all with written dates, instruments used, when, where, all of it per video and is stored in files. So I didn't like that blemish and decided to delete the video and I just placed a static photo in place of the previous footage. Boring as hell to stare at a photo but it is about my music and not some unheard of footage. You are not the first or the last as many are upset over YT's copyright system. It is the number one reason as to why many decide to simply go on to better and more open platforms. They upload their more recent videos rather then the entire range and start there. Those with 1000+ videos would be foolish to re-upload them all. Maybe 2 months back and move on from there with new content.
This is extremely common with the Apple iMovie stock songs. I was excited when I got access to a Mac and copied all these songs I heard in videos, but when I tried using them myself they got claimed. And I don’t think it’s really a scam, it’s just the result of some lazy artists and a copyright id system not caught up to the realities of using royalty free assets that resemble whole songs. The lazy artists are fully entitled to use the iMovie and GarageBand songs just as much as I am, but because they went and released their version through proper channels, content id now thinks they own it.
I feel your pain. This copyright sh*t is wicked. I had some of my videos 'demonetized' as well. But since I don't have any income from YT, it means that my subscribers have to watch Ads and some other bastard will benefit from it. This is fundamentally wrong. Wish you can get enough income from membership and other sources, other than video monetization to make it a bit easier to handle.
At least RUclips shows you who is claiming copyright and shows you which song they have uploaded that disputes your copyright. I recently uploaded a song to tiktok, self-made and original. No samples and all me. It got a copyright claim after a few seconds after upload. But tiktok won't disclose who is claiming copyright on my song, or what other upload they have that proves their claim. I had to take my song down. It's supposed to be a automated copyright check process, but it's clearly flawed. I don't have any fans or any audience anyway, so it's really odd that my music, a tiny speck amongst all the sounds & noise in the universe would be subject to this. Incredible!
Something comparable happened to me two weeks ago. I just filmed myself playing with my keyboard and the automatic system considered that a part of the intro was infringing on something I didn't know and that I couldn't even find to compare. The problem is that the "infringing" part was just the synth's rhythm playing with no accompaniment, and the vendor makes it clear that as a customer I'm allowed to use their rhythm in my compositions. I started to fight back but seeing how scary their threats are regarding closing the account etc, I preferred to give up and delete the video. The real problem is that there is no human in this chain and that they're only using fast and inaccurate algorithms. I'd at least wanted to be able to ask someone at RUclips to double-check and say "ok false positive, no there's nothing wrong". But they're controlled by machines only and you have no option but shut up and obey their machines. It's definitely time to find a new platform to share contents! Maybe just upload here with no sound and a link to the other platform in the description. It's really sad to see what it has become, with half of the viewing time filled with ads and the rest being copyright claims 😞
i've had issues playing arranger keyboards too, where somebody else has uploaded the same accomp. style, and then claims ownership on all other videos demonstrating the same style.
Like many people here have suggested, I would contact Roland 100%. You have contacts within Roland who let you borrow gear in the past. I’m sure they can point you in the right direction. Don’t let these scumbags take ownership of anything.
This also happened to one of my RUclips videos. A copyright claim was made on part of the soundtrack even though it was generated with a random note generator in my DAW. Truly amazing !
Markus Fuller just put out a video of an identical copyright claim he got for featuring a Yamaha PSR-3000 demo song. Similarly, the claimant had just sang over it. One can speculate, why there are all of a sudden so many artists singing over old synth demo songs...
Been there, I had one complain that a drum track was the same... for about 4 seconds... It was a preset loop in garage band. I was so frustrated I just removed the video. I agree the system has to be fixed but I sadly doubt YT/Google will take the time. I really don't think they care at all about creators, at least anymore. You are not in this alone. Keep the faith... Citizennerd...
Its even worse on TikTok. People constantly 'remix' a video using audio from someone else's video - and while this is encouraged, there are times the original audio IS copyrighted. A lot of the time the 'remixer' claims to be the originator of the audio and do not even mention the holder of the copyright or artist whose track was used. There currently does not seem to be any accountability for content.
Feeling this emotion fella, some folk are entirely bankrupt in the moral department. Keep on keeping on old chap. I respect large companies not wanting to get involved as it would end up being incredibly expensive to police every instance of a dispute regarding their material. That being said it would be nice to see them wade in now and again to support folk who actually do a lot to promote their brand and products, whether vintage or contemporary.
Seeing this makes me angry and sad. Angry because the bad guys win and sad because realistically, this is very unlikely to change. As others suggested, perhaps use your contacts to the big companies and try to persuade them to do something about it so at least the rightful owner can claim videos.
This is so sad and frustrated very ironic ,so sorry to hear that as if am hearing a story from a magic world where there everything could happen as in their movies.
Happened to me with a cover I did of Popcorn by Gershon Kingsley based on the Hot Butter version. A company called Adhsare (Publishing) is claiming copyright, and that my video actually uses a song's melody called Quiero Amanecer by (Pacho Galan Y Su Orquesta Musica Tropical De Colombia). I fought it through the normal youtube channels and they eventually dropped it. I even found a copy of the sheet music of the song they claimed I was using and it wasn't even close to Popcorn. I agree the Content ID is so open to fraud and scammers and RUclips makes it difficult to complain when its obviously just a scam. RUclips assumes their AI is perfect and the company or person making the copyright claim must be right or why would they make a claim.
Being a devoted follower of your channel for sometime now, and one of your innumerable fans who learnt a lot from your channel, this video comes as a kind of shocker! I was really upset and disgusted to see how few people have the guts to abuse such a wonderful channel as well as the entire platform just to gain some monetary benefit out of other's hard work! I completely agree that this is something that "RUclips" and "Google" really need to take a look into asap and find out avenues to stop these culprits and I am 100% with you on this. At the same time it saddens me to see that because of these kind of stupid third grade artists and record labels, the entire community and the place is getting a wrong highlight! Being a bengali myself and coming from Kolkata (land of Rabindranath Tagore, Satyajit Roy, Salil Chowdhury, Mohiner Ghoraguli, Anjan Dutta....) I take pride in the fact that we have such a rich music culture. And it really pains a lot to find these "criminals" putting that to shame. As you rightly mentioned that there is no hard feelings toward Indian, Bengali or Kolkata, and this can happen from any individual (as the person who raised the claim goes by the name of Erik), but hearing the words Indian, Bengali or Calcutta hurts! However, I strongly believe that justice will prevail for sure, and I am 200% confident that I will be able to watch and follow your excellent contents for a long time to come!
thx for the wonderful comment! these fake claimants do not make any judgement on the quality of the victim's channel, just the more the views the better for them! :)
I learnt from christian henson this week , that yt doesnt search for profanities after the first minute. Your composure is admirable in the face of acute frustration. If you're ever in Adelaide, Australia, we will have a beer. Keep on wooding.
Happened to me too some years ago. Made a tutorial video using a Native Instruments Demo riff (not even an entire song). Two years later I got struck with a dubious song that had been released two years after (!) my tutorial video. If anything I could have hit them! Appealed it, no chance. Tried to get Native Instruments involved, they couldn’t care less. So I deleted the video (no money for skimmers) and have never produced another tutorial video since. End of story. Sad really …
I was just hit by a claim a week ago on my new channel. I create original lofi tracks, and one of the Apple loops I used in a track was claimed by 'Believe Music'. Those loops are copyright free, and I disputed the claim which was quickly rejected. I knew their claim was false, so I stuck my guns and appealed their rejection. A few days later I got the youtube email that Believe Music dropped the claim. My channel isn't monetized, but it was all about the principle for me. The system is definitely broken!
The thing here is that RUclips/Alphabet gives the impression of protecting the copyright owners frantically but in the same breath not making anything to ensure that anyone who claims the copyright actually owns it. The revenue of the videos these processes create still feeds Alphabets wallet just the same as if there wore no issue at all, so all in all claiming that you really care about the copyright owner and then actually not protecting them when it comes to real cases just shows how little RUclips/Alphabet actually cares about the problem!
This is why we can't have nice things. Can't even show a synth without being attacked by a random record label that don't even own the copyright. And RUclips does absolutely nothing about it, countless videoes on this topic, and nothing has been done to provide "the little guy" any chance of winning against the scammers. It's disgusting.
Hats off to you Woody! Fight on, Fight on! We gave this video a plug on Ranzee's show earlier today. we are trying to do our little bit to fight back against the bots and algorithms with #FFS22.
Keep going Woody, dont Let a scammer win. RUclips also has liability supporting this kind of scam. Its very clear your explanation about this indian singer using the D-20 Demo song. In any case, Roland would be the only one who could claim the rights.
Wow! Very informative, thank you. I had no idea of this type of scam. It sickens me. It needs to be addressed. Adding my support to you. D20 was my first workstation back in the day.
Google/RUclips should start enforcing consequences for those abusing the system, just as they make it difficult for anyone on the wrong end of a copyright claim. On the other hand, they can't even manage spam accounts in the comments... it's sad that channels with original, educational, and inspiring content lose the energy to continue. Stay strong!
If Google/RUclips didn't have this "system" there would be no need to "enforce" any consequences bacause there would be no system to abuse, now would it...? The problem here is (and always was) Google/RUclips with it's ridiculous rules/policies and censorship!!
@@conan5885 hardly censorship since Google isn't a government entity. It's been forced upon them by various rights holders and legislation. Their implementation is another thing, but given the scale we're talking about, the option would probably just be banning/blocking any material right away with a poor experience for both users and creators.
Good video. I can totally relate. Even though my channel is a thousand times smaller than yours, I also had some of my video's struck with false copyright claims by fake companies. I don't lose any income since I don't allow adds, but I just hate how my hard work fills the pockets of con artists and scammers. The RUclips copyright system is broken.
Mark Fuller recently made a similar video highlighting the same point but with a Yamaha demo tune! Sounds like a collaborative effort is needed to raise the profile of this to Google.
We are in the same boat. It happens to me for my own original written and played music on my channel. Even for the $1, I simply edit and re-upload. Yes, I lose some views, but that's how I plan to fight back to scams.
It's a plague every musician knows here on RUclips. Check the battles of Rick Beato. Two solutions: play only your music or tunes older than 50 years. It's sad but I don't see a simple way to avoid troubles
Even if you play your own creations it can be a problem. It never happened to me on YT, yet, but on Facebook for one of my 100% original composition which was claimed without any evidence. I tried to disput it but it didn't work, neither the claimant or facebook replied to me. Since I've closed, or let die, my Facebook page.
I’m also a musician and one of my tracks almost reaches 400.000.000 views on RUclips. You won’t believe how many ridiculous claims we got on this one. Even though it’s all original content. As soon as they smell money, they’re on it like vultures. Even got a claim for using a sample I’ve purchased on Splice.
Ah... reminds me of the days before youtube where I got a strongly worded letter from Sony Music for using.. some standard D-50 presets in my music. Somehow they thought they own the rights to any song made with Roland instrument presets. This was before the days of DMCA so I (and my ISP) told them to get lost, and I never heard from them again. Now with youtube, they don't have to prove anything, they can just shoot at you with no repecussions.
Feel your anguish matey . . . Hope you carry on, and somehow put this behind you and not to find future issues coming your way like this! Good luck and carry on
Hi Woody this problem is incredibly frustrating. I recently had the same problem with a built in demo tune from a Yamaha PSR-3000, even though I made the video years ago someone just sang over the demo tune a couple of weeks ago and youtube decided it must belong to them. I did get the claim removed but only after getting some backup from Yamaha. what annoys me is a video only 2 weeks old can claim from a video that has been there for years. I also played a 200 year old out of copyright piece of music on my keyboard and that was claimed instantly by a german dance music company so i deleted it. I have really lost interest in making videos for youtube now because of having to fight these battles over the slightest sound that someone believes is their property. Anyway Good Luck Woody best wishes.
Highly frustrating. Really appreciate your videos Woody .. I hope you can inhale deeply and move on, because it seems that majority of your output is successful and swerves this kind of nonsense.
Yep. Some album has done the same with production music I’ve used in some of my videos, and I get claims because of using royalty free production libraries. Get a backup distribution system and be prepared. :)
Hello Woody, so sorry to see you going through this! It reminds me of the ordeal that Rick Beato when through some time back. Chin up my friend, stick with it (your fun and informative, musical content ). (O:
@@WoodyPianoShack Adrian Scott in the comments?!?! This is the greatest twist to this story!!! Amazing!!!
@@HowlingMoonCinemas right on!
RUclips’s Content ID system is embarrassingly broken.
Its just another form of monetization, if you know how to exploint it.
@@chrisliddiard725 Can the content creator exploit it first to preempt others?
False strikes should be prosecuted as fraud with jail time for the fraudsters.
That would be a good idea, at least someone claims the rights on one other's work.
Is this the reason why he isn’t posting much anymore?
@@skullhqx One of the reasons as far as I understand.
A couple of points that I did not raise on the video -
1) In the claimant's defense, they might not know that their song uses material owned by Roland/Adrian.
I even got positive comments and thumbs up on the song from both Adrian Scott and Penny Dyer who he used to record the doos and the line at the end of the original W-30 demo song! ;)
And so far, that's been the only copyright claim in this direction.
SMH!
Keep going Woody. Don’t give up! We love your channel.
This has been going on for years and despite YT being fully aware of it seem to have done nothing about it!
Id contact Roland / Adrian to see if this indian company obtained permission to use their demo song. I am highly doubtful they would have done so
Yeah. I would drop a dime on those guys.
You would contact WHO at Roland?
But it won't change anything... The YT rules are broken, allowing for this kind of actions...
@@andymerrett So exactly who in Roland PR? You claim "it's not hard", so you obviously have experience in this. Thanks in advance.
Report them to Roland
The more people know about these strange claims, the better. The legal department from YT has to wake up. Don't stop creating videos, Woody!
God Bless you Woody... it is so frustrating how stupid a platform could be no matter how big they are.
Even heavy weight YT:ers like Rick Beato are struggling with the ridiculous content claim system, what chance have "smaller" channels like yours. It is just not right that when disputing it is up to the claimant to agree. It should be a YT responsibility.
What happens if you claim a RUclips video as your own? 😂
Oh great, I'm glad she won that. I saw her original, exasperated video and wondered if she'd just give up
@@TheSunlight74 Yes, she kept going and got it resolved in the end which was nice to see. Hope Woody has similar success✨🙂✨👍✨
What a Drama Woody! I saw many copyright claims and troubles, but this is ridiculous to the max. Sorry for you to struggle this… 😢😢
I don’t think there is anything I can add that others haven’t already written. But good on you for calling this out. It’s ridiculous.
I’m seeing so many stories like yours, and it’s so frustrating. Google/YT don’t seem to want to fix the system. Hang in there!
Well put man ! Im also hearing this type of claim more and more… :(
Such a sad case of the talentless ripping off the talented. Don't stop. Your videos are so entertaining and informative.
funny thing, youtuber markus fuller has the same problem with a yamaha keyboard demo song, he had a chat with one of the people who was high up in yamaha, and the response markus got, was that Yamaha programmed the demo song and owns the copyright.
Keep doing what you’re doing Woody!
This might remove the financial reward to make fake claims.
been watching the channel for a few years now ,the content and videos u have produced is so good and inspiring to me ,i hope u will continue with it and move on from
those claims good luck moving foward !!!!
I feel for you and all your fellow youtubers. It's just a huge shame that this is taking over youtube. Seen it on several channels now... :(
Do hope you can keep on doing your videos on your channel cause i enjoy them. Best wishes.
Woody! Thank you for this video. Completely feel your frustration. Stay strong.
Couldn't agree more. I got copyright flags on 300 year old folk songs. This "intelligent" content ID algorithms thing is simply ridiculous.
Sorry to hear about this. Sounds like discussions about patent trolls on programmer forums like Hacker News or Slashdot.
I feel your frustration, Woody. Very pesky situation indeed.
Thank you for this video. I don’t know how your video popped up but the information in this video is highly valuable to me.
It happened a couple of times to me too so I ended up just deleting the videos in question.
that's the most drastic option :) glad you found the vid!
I had Roland D20 back in 1990, I still have floppy disks of songs I had sequenced in 90's
Segments like falling knights being killed, horses running, Knights charging, knights firing arrows, etc. was used
When I got the claim, there was zero views.
Wish you can get enough income from membership and other sources, other than video monetization to make it a bit easier to handle.
you're right, this is a shame. More people need to say this. RUclips must stop this fraud quickly
Incredible!
Look at it from a positive point of view.
You've done so well, that even the machines will be
thought it was the original of an original!!! :)))
Truly amazing !
lol, that's astonishing. well just goes to show that it is notoriously hard to write an algorithm that is truly random!
Markus Fuller just put out a video of an identical copyright claim he got for featuring a Yamaha PSR-3000 demo song. Similarly, the claimant had just sang over it. One can speculate, why there are all of a sudden so many artists singing over old synth demo songs...
they've been doing it for years, but their labels have just recently discovered content ID!
Just a support comment, Woody.
This situation is absurd!
Love your videos and hope you will not stop your work on RUclips.
Truly getting sick of these random folks claiming things to don't own... I hope Roland or Adrian goes after them as well!
Nooo, don’t let them close you down Woody I’ve only just found you and it’s awesome.
Wow - nice to know - I was not aware about this kind of crap.... Thank you for making it public!!!
I'm sorry to hear this Woody. That's a really shitty situation .
This happened to me once, from the same country too, but in my case the song was totally my own production so I appealed and won.
Markusfuller the synth repair guy recently made a video of a similar scam copyright claim he received over a Yamaha built in demo song…
Markus Fuller had the same issue with Yamaha.
Keep on wooding.
would love that!
We gave this video a plug on Ranzee's show earlier today. we are trying to do our little bit to fight back against the bots and algorithms with #FFS22.
that's cool, thx andrew!
I agree with the other comments to contact Roland and Adrian Scott directly to stop this abuse. Eric may also be able to support your appeal.
We are in the same boat. It happens to me for my own original written and played music on my channel. Even for the $1, I simply edit and re-upload. Yes, I lose some views, but that's how I plan to fight back to scams.
Glad you spoke out about it
It's a plague every musician knows here on RUclips.
Even got a claim for using a sample I’ve purchased on Splice.
nice views, yeah I hear a lot of library samples and loops are illegitimately claimed.
I have had the same happen to me. Very very annoying.
Ah... reminds me of the days before youtube where I got a strongly worded letter from Sony Music for using.. some standard D-50 presets in my music.
Good luck and carry on
I love your channel! Please DO NOT stop and give up. I’d be very sad along with countless others if you did.
Anyway Good Luck Woody best wishes.
interesting story, yes very similar. thanks.
