Arthur saying "I heard the blackbird sing" is profound, it was obviously the signal Tommy mentioned, but also, the blackbird is a symbol of death and suffering. When he said he heard them singing, it's like saying he began to see in Tommy that malice, that he started to lose control over himself and his emotions like Arthur used to, after the war. It was his suffering for a long time, and he didn't want Tommy to suffer from that as well.

The entire show is brilliant but that scene imo is the best, period. Tommy was walking the line between being a grieving man and being a monster, and Arthur knew what that looked like. Tommy always looked out for his brothers, but this one time Arthur was looking out for him.
That 1st min of the video when you’re talking about thinking Grace survived, and “idk what Tommy will be like if she is killed”….i just could not stop grinning and thinking oh you are in for quite the roller coaster the rest of the season and next

I believe Tommy really did mean Goodbye Arthur. He knows that the baby will mean the “Arthur” that Tommy could rely on for the bad things is gone for good. He’s losing his badass older brother to his wife and child and Tommy knows that.
Tommy is happy for him, he is just in so much pain.
Paddy Considine (Father John Hughes here, King Viserys in House of the Dragon) is one of the greatest and most underrated actors working today. He is so versatile and completely disappears into his roles. You might also remember him as one of the two detectives in Hot Fuzz, which shows you his incredible range.
Y'all that is Doran Martell painting the portrait of Polly! And if I'm not mistaken, the factory boss who has to fire a bunch of people played Dagmar, Theon's henchman who knocked him out after his speech because it was a good one and he didn't want to interrupt it 😂. GoT is WELL represented in PB season 3.
The meeting with Jhon and Arthur is one of the best scenes in the series, I never get tired of watching it
I don't think Tommy was jealous when he heard Arthur was going to be a father, he was worried about the future effects

A lot of fans think season 3 is the worst season but it's one of my favourites, they really delve deeper into the family dynamics that wasn't super complex in the first two seasons, this episode really is a turning point for the entire show :D
I think season 5 is the worst. I always liked season 3 and can't say I've ever seen people saying it is the worst.
@@danielleeskelton it was after it just came out when it got a lot of criticism, people moaning it being set outside of Birmingham, they didn’t like the new villians or where the story went. It settled down once newer seasons released
Personally I think season 6 is the worst, felt all over the place

I personally dislike 5 the most, but I would put 3 right behind (in front?) of it. Then I have my gripes for 4. I just like the first 2 most due to having a continuous story/antagonist. The rest have this “villain of the week” thing that, personally, isn’t my cup o’ tea.
@@KissablePurpleMonkey oh absolutely agree with you on that, Campbell was such a great antagonist, surprised they didn’t keep him around for the whole grace dying plotline, could of given Campbell another reason to come back into the story and blame Tommy or something

the next half of season 3 and the entire of Season 4 is comfortably the best period of Peaky Blinders.!

to Arthur because he immediately understood that with the pregnancy the force relation will change & Linda will try to separate them. Tommy loves Arthur so much- he would never be jealous and f anything good happening to him

He's not jealous of Arthur, that "good bye" has two meanings, as in he'll never be the same again or be in the peaky blinders doing Tommy's deeds, and a literal good bye.
Love how even when john is drunk he isn't a idiot saying "It jumps on the hammer" (meaning it sometimes accidentally fires)

Arthur coming through as a big brother to Tommy. He knew Tommy would have been further lost had he gone through with it. Arthur stepped in to protect his little brother from himself
There are other comments here about people not liking this episode and others thinking that it’s a great one and a critical one in the show. I’m in the latter group. It is in this episode that the darker tones of the show take over. Tommy is still talking about taking the family completely legit, but we know, Arthur and John know, and Tommy probably knows too, that it’s a pipe dream. I feel like what this episode is really about is Tommy having fully realized his opportunities for happiness are in the past. He is way way way over his head and the future is no longer about opportunity, it’s about survival. Tommy’s heart goes hard because he is pivoting towards the shitstorm ahead, steeling himself, sharpening his focus. The people he has to work with now are more dangerous than any before, he probably hasn’t seen the worst of them yet and he knows it. There is no more room for any softness or weakness, no time for joy or love or kindness. His family has no clue.

He has such an upbeat and positive attitude!
Man even when he's grieving Tommy's so unintentionally funny. Well then she'll go to heaven eh Arthur. And cutting Arthur off instantly telling him to shut up
one of the best eps of the show, mainly for that one scene. But the episode is packed with very intense scenes.
I want a count through all the seasons of the number of times we hear, "Shut up Arthur!" 😂😂😂

OK it's sad Grace is dead but for me May was levels above Grace in the first place in every department with the possible exception of singing, she had a better personality, she didn't come into Tommies life in a deceptive manner trying to take him down, she absolutely didn't need him for the money and she was willing to put her reputation on the line just to be with him and by the way this in an era when that kind of thing could do permanent damage to ones life.
Yes i am aware May is just a fictitious character in a work of fiction but so is Grace and my dad is bigger than your dad. So there.

As others have mentioned a lot of people do not rate this season very highly but personally i love the fact that it a slow burn which is feeding the plots to buld up and lead us into my personal favourite season with my favourite plotline & favourite antagonist. (For clarification i do not consider Alfie to be an antagonist as he is as much an ally to Tommy as a threat as we have already witnessed several times at this point in the show}
By the way if anyone has taken the time to read this comment & get this far sorry for taking precious time off you that you will never get back but i appreciate that you heard me out & hope you have not just a great day but a great life going forward from this point.
Movie recommendation for you to react to: DOG SOLDIERS (2002), a very good British horror, brutal and with charismatic and curious characters, this underrated gem is worth checking out.
And can I also throw another film into the mix? Dead Man Shoes starring Paddy Considine (Vizzy T). Such a great film too!

When Arthur said we aren’t those guys. They meant they don’t kill women.
This show is so good they should of threw money at the creators and asked them to make at least five more shows, each one in the same time and setting but in one Arthur is the boss another with Polly as boss then John, then Ada and lastly of course one where somehow Alfie takes control. Screw it, lets make six shows so we can even have one where somehow, someway Detective Campbell takes charge of the Peaky fooking Blinders.

I don't know why Grace would be labelled a good woman.. She hasn't quite earned that, I feel. She's gentle, loving, but she's also unfaithful (just left her husband at the drop of a hat, kept flip flopping between favoring Tommy and Inspector Campbell) and also quite demanding (as a bride) and had little respect for Tommy's boundaries.
A good woman would be the horse lady, the widow that was in love with Tommy
Just cause they are old and crying doesn’t mean he didn’t give the order to try to kill Tommy and got grace killed. And we know if she didn’t know about that what she’s about to do so not like Tommy wasn’t 100 right as always they had it coming.

Swear to God John gets on my nerves so much this season, his jealousy over Lizzie kick-started the whole issue with the Italians, and indirectly, cost Grace's life (to be fair, I didn't even like Grace that much, but still) he sees Tommy grieving and still has the gall to talk back to him and refuse to follow instructions that would be for the best of the family, and I suppose I get what he's feeling and where he's coming from, but still, he needed to be more pragmatic, so to say.

@@KieranIreland-og9qt Kinda get where your coming from but its quite hard not to comment on a nearly 10 year old TV Series that has been watched and re-watched by Tens of Millions of people. I'm here mainly for the "reaction" of N&S and as to why they get or don't get what is happening. Pointing out the relevance of something that has a bearing on latter events ins't "spoiling" per-say its merely helping watchers make a note for when that moment comes back and have more of an impact.

@@orangewarm1 I know it's rhetorical, but Campbell did. Saying "Men like us will always be alone", and "This man had a death warrant plastered on his back the day he was born", or something like that. It's not jealousy or envy from Campbell there, but his experience. Tommy is the kind of guy who goes out and seeks trouble. He could've let those guns go if he wanted to. He could've handled the Italian business well instead of taking out the pubs. Stuff like that.
