    That is so cool that you're keeping it with the stock EFI. Most people would have just gotten rid of it for a carburetor but to see you keep it so original is just so cool. Great job on this. 👍

      @@willmorris6954 Well he kept the stock EFI system so it is electrical. And doing that gives you more horsepower options. Like tuning it, putting bigger injectors, and maybe even turboing the thing

    I had an '86 5 liter and fuel injected which was a huge step up in performance from the carb version. I had a heavy half ton and carried a Six Pac Camper. Never an issue with power.

      I really prefer the mid 80s body style two tone paint schemes. I think they are really nice looking trucks. I haven't driven mine in quite a while but I am keeping it around as an ongoing project. I hope one day I can find the time to do the paint and body work. I am sure that will be another learning experience. Good luck on your project. If you hit any roadblocks or have any questions give me a yell. Actually I have a numbers matching 1969 351 Windsor that I have had on an engine stand for literally years. Wrapped up and protected of course. At one point I was going to slam it in the 86 but just not sure I'll ever get around to it.

      Pull all the efi junk out when doing engine swap if its a 5.0....save yourself headaches in long run....its a bad design n was replaced in a 1/2 a year so it didnt work right to begin with n you will never get it to work right...throw a manifold/ carb on it n replace fuel setup n put mechanical instrument cluster in dash...youll be glad you did n also the wiring will work as ford had many engines that year n use the same interior wiring but different harnesses from the firewall forward...

    Some of you more astute observers probably noticed that when I re-did the door panels and rough liner I did it in a light tan. This was not a standard option from Ford. They were both blue from factory but I wanted a little contract as practically everything in the cab was already some shade of blue except the dash board. Learned a lot during this project so if any one has any questions about engine, transmission, suspension, fuel system, etc...just post the question. I might be able to help.

      Albert Free Hey dude, I just got my 86 it's a 302 EFI xlt lariat like this one but I got a vacuum leak issue. So the guy before me rebuilt this engine and bored it out to 330 anyways, when we got the thing we noticed a loose vacuum line that leads to that vacuum tree on the fire wall with the three ports, it wasnt plugged into the intake manifold vacuum tree like it is supposed to be. So we plug it and the engine shuts off, like it slowly starves for air then shuts off. Me and my dad were thinking it is the egr solenoids since whenever we hit the throttle the solenoids don't click once to turn on it's like a series of clicks. From what I've read those are supposed to click once to turn on and I haven't heard of them continuously clicking. Anyways since then me and him are deleting all the emissions (cats, smog pump egr valve) and some other stuff and we'll see if deleting all that fixes the problem but please try to get back to me cause it's kind of a bitch to keep running when you plug it and it shuts off. Oh I can mention one thing , whenever we got it to normal operating temp and plugged one of the open ports on that firewall vacuum transfer tree the truck idled really low and when we created the vacuum leak it jumps really high.

      I'm restoring my 86 f150 xl. It was my first truck. So far the cab mounts and bushings have been a royal pain but the rest has gone smoothly. I started the whole project because I needed new wiring harness because a mechanic...not myself didn't ground it properly and my truck almost burned up. Fried the ignition harness all the way back inside the cab. During troubleshooting I realized it's time to restore due to some rust. So I started with the frame, chassis and engine cradle. now working on rust on underbody. Cab mounts and bushings are done and underneath is all cleaned and repainted. Replaced the rear tank, pump and sending unit and 86'd the front fuel tank. Got to order new wiring harnesses next but meanwhile I'm painting the engine firewall and inner fenders along with radiator core support. Next we do the engine and move on to interior of the cab and window seals, then the body. The hard part seems to be done

    Just got a 1986 F150 with a 302. Still inexperienced, but trying to figure everything out so I'm asking for some knowledge. Where the vacuum reservoir traditionally sit, it looks like it's been replaced by a plastic ball reservoir, but between it and the battery sits a square, upright plastic box with what looks like valves lining the bottom of it. They're rusted to hell and need to be replaced, but can't find what these parts are called to replace them. Could you point me in the right direction?

    Great build, I like the stance of the truck. Do you have leveling springs or blocks to bring the front end up level? Also, what size tires are you running?

    • @afree029
      @afree029 7 лет назад +1

      Thanks. 31.0 X 10.5 X 50R15LT. with these tires I don't have to run any additional lifting of bigger springs. I made the mistake years ago of running 32 or 33s all the way around and while the back was fine I did have some scrubbing on the front while turning or on big bumps, so I had to raise it slightly. The cheap and easy option was to use the coil spring twist in lifts but I had to use two per spring. I don't recommend those. An unfortunate side effect is this increased the positive camber. It drove ok but the tires did not wear even across the tread. At first glance you would think it was 4wd. Dropping back to the 31 X 10 X 50 was the right move. It has a nice stance with the rear being just slightly higher than the front. I still have the truck but haven't driven in a long time. I bought a new truck shortly after the build. I doubt the tires have 500 miles on them and I am probably going to sale them very cheap rather than just let them set and dry rot. If you are interested in any hard to find parts let me know as I would rather sale or give the parts away rather than let them waste away.

      It's actually pretty much like the Sound and heat Guard stuff you would put under your carpet but without any adhesive backing. Some places like Lowes sell it as insulation. I just customer but the piece then I bought the push in fasteners from LMC truck parts. Great catalog and you get just about anything you need for one of these old trucks and it's free.
