    Now this is exactly what I've done in my life. Bought a newer game for my brother for $60. Turned out it sucked for him and only played it once(I guess it was Destiny or Halo 4 or something). So, I sold it on Craigslist for $40. And cause I didn't have a job or an Xbox One console. I thought, "Maybe I should get build a PC for fun. I don't know." And somehow, I got the cheapest Dell Optiplex SFF with a i3 1st Gen and 4gb of ram. Later, I found a great 720p monitor an office was selling(yet have away for free to me), a broken SSD(I fixed!), and a keyboard/mouse combo(my mother found in the trash). I turned it into a $120 profit and used the Windows 7 on the PC into a 10. Sold it as an office PC and got a server PC with a x3323(Core 2 Quad equivalent) and 6gb of DDR2 for free from the trash where my mother found the keyboard/mouse combo. Turned that into a profit. Etc.
    This kept happening until where I am right now years later with a E3-1230, 8gb of Corsair DDR3, a GTX 1050 2GB, an old SSD(works perfectly fine), a 500GB HDD, a CX650M with White Modular Cables, a Micro ATX Cooler Master case with three fans, a CoolerMaster CPU cooler, an ASUS 900p Monitor (that can somehow do 75hz), another keyboard/mouse combo, a Xbox plug-in controller, a Moto G7 Play, and a Moto G7 Optimo Maxx all for around a $265 US Dollar profit.
    I somehow got all this stuff cause I just wanted a simple retro gaming PC at first and wished I could get a better one. Yet, I became very blessed and worked hard until I got almost everything I wanted. And it all stated with a game we didn't like XD
    So, I just wanna let everyone know. You can get to a good point and get exactly very close to what you want in life. It may not be what you imagine or wished for But, I'm pretty happy with how far I've gotten and earned a lot of fancy electronics. I just had to be smart and work hard for it. Trust me. You put yourself toward it. You might not get what you want. But, you will get close to what you need. Happy building :)

      But that's luck, no one in my area throws pc stuff in the trash or anything

    • @amightygrizzly
      @amightygrizzly 4 года назад +11

      @@lordjunn Hey. I understanding. I used to live in another town of 100 as the population. So, "trash piles or landfills" was even a thing. Now, I've been living in the majority of my life in a slightly larger area. Plus, the landfill days which are, of course, the days the landfill are open to the public for free. The only place to throw away the electronics is far out of town to get to. So, we hit up a short drive to a major landfills and everybudy takes "Pentium 4" PC's of all things and CCR TVs and CCR Monitors. So, each time I always find absolutely nothing. It was only this three month time period in two visits is when I found those higher quality items from the landfill for electronics. The workers said some rich, rich older lady dropped them off and that was two non-consecutive occasions. The only other good find I found in all my years good to the dump is last year a school teacher dropped off three older, broken Acer C720P chromebooks. I took parts from each and even though they were in the still in the process of dieing and the each touchscreen was shattered. I managed to get one chromebook revived and got one other screen to cut on. Along with another battery from the other. It worked for 6 months while having random shutdowns and then it finally decided to die this February.
      Other than that, I can never find anything valuable at the dump anymore including a simple mouse, keyboard, or computer beyond the Pentium 4 which are all the same Dell OEM systems that use ribbon cables and proprietary parts. I managed to open up a two of them and take some screws I needed. Other than that, you just gotta wait for rich people to drop stuff off XD
      But yeah, it is very luck based. However, if you want to learn of computers and probably earn on part or unit for free is volunteering at a school or office and just straight up asking that "I'll fix up some of those computers(like LGA 1155) and if I find a bad one would you mind if I keep it for parts." Most of the time, people reply "Yes sir, you can go right ahead. You need any help?" I'll reply, "No sir( Or No ma'am). I might need to know every know and then where your bathroom or cafeteria is sir( or ma'am). But other than that, I'm here to help." They then let me help them and in return I'll find only a couple of broken units that with bad motherboards only and take them for parts. The people get better systems for bettering education for students or bettering workflow in an office. And I get parts like a E3-1230 and a 500GB HDD that also had a broken sata port. I would leave them the good ram modules, good HDDs, cases, proprietary fans, proprietary PSUs, etc.
      You can always do good and fix stuff too. My roommate/cousin/friend managed to not pay for the rest of community college (other than our first semester) by fixing at least 200 units of the college's computers. The college was about to spend up to the $100,000 US dollars or way, WAY more in order to keep up with updating systems. We managed to convince them that we could fix them and it's literally parts like a bunch of HD7450s, more DDR3 ram, and better CPUs, and a Ton of SSDs and Macrium Reflect for 1st and 2nd Gen Intel units(being half 1st i3 gen and other half G2020 Pentium gen). It took three months to fix them, and we repaired here and there whenever someone else would break them. They didn't have any computer classes there or an IT guy, so they used us and we didn't have to pay for food or any semester saving thousands in my eyes. We also took some units that where way, WAY older like LGA 775 they couldn't keep like 54 units and sold them with extra SSDs off the same pallet the school ordered, updated the Windows 7 up to Windows 10, and put a bunch of GTX 750 Ti's in at least 26 units where we used that money for gas or buying a pizza here and there. We also worked as the janitor, AC repair man, chef, drama prop builder, sound board guy, and any other oddball jobs nobody wanted to just pay for gas. I worked and earned my way through community college even though a "singing" degree is pretty much useless when I still sound terrible XD. But hey, I at least even got the degree saying "I am smarter than the average person." And, I feel as though I earned it by working really, really hard at it.
      So, trust me. If you ever want to get something, you gotta work hard for it and find opportunities wherever you go even if it's a trash pill, a landfill, a volunteering service, helping a friend, helping a seller, or helping s school not spend thousands of dollars by doing a service. Trust me when I at least say. "Yes, you can." :)

      @@shreyas9580 KurejittoX Thank you so much. I hope it inspired others too. And also it never ends too, the Moto G7 Play had a bad stock rom and turns out the smartphone had an unlocked bootloader. So, I've been learning about ADB, Fastboot, Rooting, etc. Whenever the phone used to cut on, it said "N/A" meaning something was off with the rom. Later on, I flashed the original rom designed for the phone and it now says "bad key" which is that the stock rom is not the *same*(even though it exactly is). Many can get rid of the "bad key". However, I'm one of the select few who can't. All "bad key" means is that the bootloader is still "unlocked" and mine will continue to stay "unlocked" cause whoever previously used it (most likely a MetroPCs employee cause it was in an unopened box and had a note on it saying for the device to 'Go on clearance') had a corrupt *recovery mode* and disabled it. The logo "bad key" will always show up and the only thing I am trying to use to at least hide it is MotoLogoChanger or something on the XDA Forums. Of course, the phone will brick unless it has the original stock rom thanks to LMSA(Lenovo Moto Service Assistant).
      So,.....everyday is an adventure. Just gotta keep looking at the bright side. Like, I at least got it working again.

    Awesome stuff Brian. I know I have said this before but a lot of people (the vast majority) can't afford to drop hundreds if not thousands of $$ on shiny new PCs to game/work on so vids like this really help people out. You see it all the time in comments sections on product reviews etc: "drooling over a $400 GPU when my PC isn't worth $50" etc. Worse is that tech culture has ingrained into people that used = bad and that if you don't have the latest and greatest then you are somehow failing at life. I remember being stung as a youngster in the industry when I sold my Geforce 4 MX 400 and bought an FX 5200 because it was at least the "latest generation" only to discover the 5200 was so much slower in 90% of the games I played.
    Kudos for showing people that you are better off with something like an RX 470 used for cheap than you are with something like a GTX 1650 that cost twice as much (or more) but is new. These are lessons many of us had to learn through bitter experience so the more we can help people avoid wasting their time and money the better. I still remember my bitter disappointment when I installed my shiny new FX 5200 and fired up a game in (for the time) cutting edge DX9 mode only to discover the frame rates were completely unplayable and had to revert to DX 8.1. Worse still, my old GPU was faster in DX 8.1.

    I'm still surprised how I7 2nd gen 2600 and 2700 are still kicking ass. They can do good streaming and good for gaming even if it has 4 cores and 8 threads but still, my first gaming and recording pc was with an i7 2600... I'm still amazed by Intels 2nd gen processors that still kick ass 9 years later!

    Hey Brian you might not see this. Just so you know man you don't need gaming PCs to do what you're doing here, this is just beautiful. I would watch you do this with a VCR if you edited it and gave it a soundtrack like this. It's your personality is your taste.

    I have one of those Coolermaster cases. Served as my main PC for years. The power button kept breaking however. The plastic arms would break and button would flop around in it's little hole. I would then have to stick my finger and hit the tiny power button the main power button was supposed to press against to power it on. That case is still working as a spare/play PC.

    @Tech YES City great series, definitrly mystery box pc's are a great way to go for new content and especially to watch and see how you adapt, btw less cybertron more dadman...maybe for that motherboard bundle get dad to make you a wooden case, even a 3d print case would help get more money

    I'm going to be following this series closely. Trying to emulate what you're doing here is a potential way for somebody to buy a PC to play Cyberpunk 2077 on, as there's still quite a bit of time until that game is released and lots of people have been waiting for it for years. You might want to combine the Laptop flipping experiments you did with this project once you come to a little bit more capital. Granted that people usually are very brand conscious when it comes to laptops, so it's a completely different ball game. Still I quite enjoyed those experiments, and if the opportunity presents itself I'd like to see you explore that avenue a little bit more.
    Great stuff, my dude!

    I know I am late but always unplug you fans before using air or vacuums on them! the overspeed can charge the fan circuits to damaging levels!

  • @martijnholland1714
    @martijnholland1714 4 года назад

    Tip to speed up the process. Put all pc's up for sale and sell the one you get the highest bid on. Delete the other listings. Of the money buy some new Kingston A400 2,5" 240GB ssd's or similar. Install them in the best pc's you have left with windows and drivers. Sell them as used with new ssd + warrenty and invoice.
    In future builds stack up components (you should have saved that power supply I've you asked me). When you find a new bargain which has a nice branded power supply swap them and sell the power supply separately. Same for other parts like videocards.
    Keep some money aside to find bargain deals on SSD's. Sell future pc's with an SSD and windows install. Any PC with an SSD sells way more easy than their counterparts without one.
    Edit: It would be nice if you include petrol costs and or shipping costs.

    Epic video mate. I think i would have held onto that i7 combo and used some money from the other sales to turn it into a decent gaming PC for even more profit. But then again maybe its better to just get it listed asap and move onto another deal.

    I've kinda done a similar thing. Started with couple of hundred euros buying really crappy laptops, fixing and flipping them. In 2 years I had a budget over 10k to play with so I could pretty much buy anything even in the high end that I saw had too low of an asking price. At some point I had about 40 laptops and desktops in my 2 room apartment, it was quite the mess but hey. Money is money. I was unemployed so I had time and I had alot of experience in tech support, although I never really had repaired laptops before but I was curious and really liked disassemblying and trying to find the faults in them.

    What a cool idea for an episodic series. The only issue I could see is it taking a little while to get the computers sold. I think this could be remedied with some updates on offers as well as other potential purchases/flips. I'm also interested in seeing the check list for the high end system slowly get checked off one by one!

    Luck plays a good part in reselling computers. I ran across a person selling a number of FX 6300 Processors and Motherboards for 50 each. I ended up spending 40 each and getting 3 of them. They all worked. I was told they were take outs of systems from a school.. I still had to pick up cases, Power supplies, and Hard drives. And I added a usb 3.0 card to each. The boards were missing that. They all sold for a small profit. which helped me into the next systems I would build...
