- The recent controversy surrounding Laurence Fox's offensive remarks on Dan Wootton's GB News show has brought to light the pervasive issue of misogyny in the media.
While Fox stands by his comments, broadcaster Dan Wootton has since apologized. However, it is political journalist Ava Santina Evans who has found herself at the centre of this debate.
In a conversation with Evans she sheds light on her experience and the larger problem of sexism and degradation faced by women in the industry.
Of Dan Wootton's and Laurence Fox's discussion on GB News she said: "It just feels very dirty and quite disgusting. I just feel like I want to sort of shower it all off of me."
She welcomes the suspension of both Laurence Fox and Dan Wootton from GB News, but warned it was now up to the regulator Ofcom and the managers of GB News to decide what happens next.
Technology Secretary Michelle Donelan has urged Ofcom to look into GB News after the broadcaster suspended presenters Dan Wootton and Laurence Fox.
The Conservative MP hit out at the “unacceptable and disgraceful way” the men behaved while discussing a female journalist.
Tory MP Caroline Nokes urged Ofcom to swiftly investigate the “blatantly misogynistic” comments by Laurence Fox aired on GB News.
The chair of the Commons Women and Equalities Committee told BBC Newsnight: “I thought it was absolutely abhorrent.
“GB News purports to be a serious news broadcaster yet here you have two men belittling, demeaning, seeking to humiliate a female journalist.
“One of them making a truly offensive comment and then laughing about it. Clearly GB News has taken action, we wait to see if that sticks.
“I was appalled by a news channel broadcasting such blatantly misogynistic outdated hideous attitudes.
“I think there is a really serious case to answer and I hope that Ofcom can conclude its investigations as swiftly as possible.”

You may not like it but it’s perfectly normal. It doesn’t mean however that we would act upon it unless the feeling was reciprocated. Most men are not sexual predators but it is in our nature to think these things. You could question whether Lawrence Fox should say these things but ultimately it’s just words!

I was also highlighting that most men aren’t sexual predators as I felt I had to point this out as I’ve heard it said otherwise and in particular from this woman in question. Given the chance most men would shag anything but most women wouldn’t. I know this but I think women forget this! It’s called human nature!

He is right, even if if he didn't express or even think it at the time. It's called hindsight. They still should have remained private as they were ya know, private messages.
