If you've ever shopped around for a practice pad, you know there's a TON of different options to choose from that can range anywhere from $20, $40, $60, or even $100. If you do decide to go for a more higher end option, we recommend the Drumeo P4 Practice Pad (alright, we're a little biased...).
If you're on a budget, we got you covered. Making your own practice pad is actually super simple and you can find all the necessary materials at your local dollar store. Reuben Spyker, Drumeo's community manager, is here to walk you through the process step-by-step.

The pricing shown in the video is all of the products added together up until that point, so we did build the pad for less than 10 bucks! Just in case there was some confusion. :)
Drumeo Still confused 😄
Drumeo WHAT???
Drumeo first item $4 second item $4 and third $1.25 = $9.25 (less than $10) I knew math class would come in handy someday 😂
Definitely was confused
@@ChrisBairDrums Well most likely + 13% tax if they are in Ontario.
I just walk around with drumsticks blastbeating everything in my way. My wife and kids will love this. Cheers
Looks around: a wooden chair, a cat, some glue... let's get creative.
Oh god
Now let's all agree. to never be creative again!
@@user-sz4bf3uq6u how are you varified?
@@crashlandon7957 i am not it fake
lmfao
i need to see the behind the scenes because i know it took a couple takes to film the intro of yall throwing sticks and drums pads at this man lol
To could also just use a hardback book with a mouse pad on it. That's what I've been doing and it works pretty well
Bought a can of Flex Seal and made 6 pads out of 1 can about 8" in diameter, 1/4" thick. The bounce response is so great, you have to be careful not to knock your eye out. $30 per can but comes out to $5 per pad surface, plus scrap plywood.
Them chops at 5:05 👌
Scary.
My dollar store isn't that fancy lol
SwiftMustangs it’s dollarama in canada
Wonwoo’s Mingyu yeah we have dollar tree in america and it doesn’t have half of those things i saw in that store💀
I’m so tired of having bruises on my knees from practicing, thank you so much
Haha same😅😂
The drum sticks flying everywhere was pretty funny.
"like a mouse pad"
*looks at mouse pad*
How badly do I want this
My friend did this and now his dad's wet suit for diving has two big holes in it , LOL 😃
Were the "two big holes" in the "cheeks" area!? 😁😆😁
I Need a tutorial about how to make a bass drum practice pad🙏🏼
Marching bass? I imagine you could get a 14" long piece of wood maybe 1.5"x1.5" thick and glue one of these pads to each end, then contrive some sort of stand or harness for it. Maybe drill a hole in it and stick in a dowel that's the thickness of the top part of a cymbal stand so you can use it in a cymbal stand.
If you're using a kick pedal, from what I hear (I only got into drums during this quarantine), you can use an old mattress to beat the head into, and apparently it doesn't feel too far off from a real kick drum.
@@calatwork7308 seems like it would be a pretty large and impractical practice pad but that’s better than noise complaints
@@koifish528 I mean, if it's for the bass pedal, you can just prop it up against the wall
Couch.
awesome production!
Good stuff. I found anything less than 1/4” or thicker neoprene rubber was worthless. All my sticks did was push through the thinner stuff and I’d be hitting wood.
One good thing about this thinner material is you can layer cotton batting under it for a pad that has very little bounce for muscle memory work.
Great DIY stuff here, man!
mouse pads?
Amazing, cool, awesome i loved it
Car mudflaps make a nice practice surface. Especially the thick ones they put on trucks. Lots of old wrecks out there with free practice pads still attached to them.
Thank you very much, the mouse pad has been an amazing alternative for me.
You don’t even necessarily need the glue or the wood board. You could just put the foam on a sidewalk/road/big rock if you’re outside or on the floor or a table if you’re inside
Put it in the road and kneel down and play on it.. Let us know how that goes for you👍🏻😉
Gage Pine I sit on the ground with my legs out and my drum pad between them to practice all the time
Yes l tried mouse pad work very well🥁🥁🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thanks for the help! good video
the cheapest(! to 15$) place mats or "welcome" floor mats use a thicker version of the mouse pad material. Its spendier than the 10$ budget, but you can make a lot more pads.
Next video should be about "how to make your own pad stand." Just an idea , I am just saying :D
just use a snare stand.
@@autolysia Drill no holes, nail the screws in. It'll be perfect.
Sanding a little bit the cutting board also can make it stick better. I havent tried this, so I'm not talking from an experience, but the down side might be the bounce that you get. I have used a bascket ball between my legs and the bounce It's adjustable with the air in it and the pressure that yo aply with your legs. Worth trying if you practice at home and have a ball layig arround.
Good idea!
Your chops are more impressive than the pad. And yes the pad sounds awesome.
This owesome!
Super cool!!!
What about turntable slipmats? Would that work in terms of bouncy surface?
Nice sticking bro!
cool tutorial, thanks
the beggining of the video is so original - insta like
bien joué ! Je fonce acheter ce qu'il faut ! ;-)
fan tas tic - thank you - very inspiring
Rrally good idea
Awesome! 💓
great. now I'm gonna start a company making snare pads
That Moeller technique though
More Impressed w this guys stick control. Who’s the drummer?
Do more like this please
YHEEEEIII!!! my own practice pad YHEEEEEII!!!
What about fabric paper or all types of paper can glue to the cutting paper to make a practice pad also to attach?
I need a tutorial on how to make a tenor practice pad 🙏
Wow I should make one
What kind of drum sticks should I get for my practice pad?
junktube4000 Chopsticks work.
It definitely depends on personal preference, but I like 8D’s
junktube4000 Drum sticks
DD's
Hell yes ! But will it respond properly?
Gonna make one .
Thanks man
Does anyone know that music track in the background at 1:42?
Laptop Bag 4$, Cutting Board 8$, Super Glue 9.25$ ? It confused me really hard...
read the pinned comment
Nice!
While using mouse pad which side to put up the rubber one or the cloth one
thanks you, bery very useful xD
Is that similar to the backside of the Vic Firth stock or slim pad
@Drumeo What's the name of your dollar store or were you really at Walmart or Target?
Man intro is 10/10
Do the same thing except in an upside down plastic frisbee. Only costs $1 and the edge acts like a drum rim for rim shots and cross sticking.
Merrrhn this guy is really fast with the traditional grip
Mans got hands
My practice pad was $30.00 tho
Next one do a How to use basic lighting?
Awesome idea, wish i saw this before i spent all that money.
John Lopez no spend the money on a good practice pad😂
Is that suitable for marching drummers?
Reuben!
Damn. If only my QT mouse mat wasn't nice it would be awesome for this. I got the extra thick medium size as well so I bet I could just slap it on some hard surface and be fine. My desk feels like it is taking too much away.
Ωραία χέρια μάστορα!!!
Great idea !!!!, now what about a stand ??????
Can’t you just go to Walmart or arts and craft store and buy the foam sheets ??🤔
Foam sheets are very brittle and crunchy, wouldn't work for practice pads as hickory or maple ( stick material) are very hard
Idk can you?
Wait why would you wear sunglasses inside😂
You obviously don't know drummers
Cheese...lol !! 😂😂 But really great idea.
This would work for a bass drum practice pad for muscle development right ?
I would assume so, you'd just need to set it up like a bass drum (put them uhhh, 10-16 inches or whatever size your bass drum is wide)
The mouse pad is also applicable or not??
That was awesome! It looks great!!
dope
would an old skateboard suffice?
jajaja great intro
Old car tire or any might work too... Hihihi
I would probably get those block erasers and glue them to a circular piece of wood all conected
That is if I waanted to do good rolls
What size of head is this?
Want a practice drum pad for under $5? See if your local dollar store or online store has Silly Putty egg -- double or giant size ... Or buy a few for $1.25. Yes. This non-newtonian fluid makes a perfect practice drum pad. Just flatten the putty out to about 1/4" thick patty and slap it on a table or chair. Take it with you on the road with your sticks. The egg makes a nice compact travel case, and saves space of you have a small room or apartment. Done.
The drumeo pad does not look like itsll be good for marching sticks?
hmu Philly no that is for set players definitely get a normal pad
Can you use a mouse pad instead
Interesting.
"how to make a drum pad for $10" Spends $30
Something's wrong. I followed all the steps; but, I still sucks when it comes to play rudiments on a park bench...
I noticed ur right arm sticks out from ur body but left arm does not.?
My practice pad was 18 bucks tho....
Carlo Marcelo www.guitarcenter.com/Vater/Chop-Builder-Practice-Pad.gc
And you still suck
Aren't practice pads around ten dollars?
Good pads are around 40-50€ here in Europe at least.
Jon um... truly shitty ones. Ones worse than what you would make yes. Generally they hover around 40 and up though
"Ones worse than you would make" You dont know that
5:04 I mean mate u don't really need a practic pad but sure
If he got these skills is because he practice at a pad! Sure he need
Dumb logic
A pc of rubber, like a truck mud flap, works best.
@Michael O'Hara - yep, that's what we like. Coupla piezos and some screened cable it makes a good trigger pad too. Foam not so good for triggering imho.
I thought the store was called DOllar store? naughty
I literally just flipped my mouse pad over onto a table and boom $0 spent lmao
I would've left the cheese side exposed
What if I use an actual mousepad?
then you use an actual mousepad
Be sure it’s a thick one. Quarter inch or better.
I’ve used the thinner ones and it felt like I was just hitting the wood underneath.
I would send the word just a little bit so the glue wood stick better
On the wood I would use a little bit of sandpaper just so the glue sticks better other than that great job
I brought this drum pad in school to practice my rudiments, then everyone gatnered up and wanting lessons from me. Which kinda annoyed me coz they barely cant learn the first most basic thing to do😑 i even tried teach them how to use the hihat and snare first. I thought drums was easy for them...
I turned an old drum pad into one,
Mine was worth $3.75 😊
Mouse pads work good
Why would you throw those pads??? 😭😭😭

wait so the bag was 4 dollars, the board was 8 and the glue was 9...that is 21 dollars. My pad is an evans and has 2 surfaces and it was 15 dollars.....
