    For micro cranks I've found that removing the trebles and replacing only one with a single size 6 eagle claw true turn lazer sharp crappie hook on the tail with hook point up works well for getting into thick cover with less snags and it's easier when dealing with unhooking the fish. Have not noticed too bad of a sacrifice on the hookup ratio either. Thanks for all your vids Richard, You and Elmo are my kind of dudes!

      Because they are PETA want to be. That's why any outdoor videos from hunting to fishing always gets thumbs down retards. These people think that meat should be bought at the super market. Because they are oblivious to how that meat actually gets there. The only difference is they don't video it. And the outdoors videos or any videos that actually show the "the real world". Gets a dislike from these people with their head in the clouds looking at rainbows while sitting in their safe space bubble.

    Richard, I have friends here on the Chickamauga reservoir that troll with cranks for crappie from time to time, but I don’t care for trolling. I had rather fish with a single pole in hand like you do. Back some 40 years ago when I first began to fish, I did troll crank baits like a swimming Minnow and would catch big crappie on Watts Bar lake. Thank you for your videos. I look for new ones everyday.

      You're a kind person Tom Kelly. I moved up to Minnesota in 99 and the first thing I did was to buy a 7' and I don't know the specs on the rod cause they all wore off. Best way I could call it is light action. Fairly flimsy just a fantastic crappie stick. I only paid $17 closeout at Wally World I never been able to find another one like it either it's it's a Berkley Rod they don't make it anymore I wish I had two more just like it I'm really turned out to be my favorite fishing rod always fish 6-pound test on it would handle four easily I'm not much on 2lb test cuz I can't see that good anymore. Anyways that was really nice of you to take good care or Richard Gene like that.

    Thank you for gently placing the fish back in the water rather than tossing them like some other youtubers. Fishing for food and or sport is great but there is no need in causing unnecessary harm to the fish. I like that you teach by example the proper way to release a fish.

    Since moving to the coast I fish for speckled trout a lot. They are a lot like crappie in my opinion. They bite really soft most times. They seem to behave a lot alike. It can be tough getting them to bite but once you figure it out it's a lot of fun. I wish there was some freshwater around here that holds crappie.

    If you look at Wal-Mart usually they have a four pack Rebel micro cranks that work really good for like $10. The little crank like that one works, but they destroy the little crawdad crank and grasshopper crank really good when it starts warming up a little.

      @bassnazi4713 5 лет назад +1

      @@FishOnIsMyHandle yea, i think the little opening between the claw part on the rear of their crawdad crank makes them great, not just for panfish. They sell larger sizes individually and I've had some huge spotted and large mouths hit, and usually a 5lbs+ smaller every once in awhile.

    • @FishOnIsMyHandle

      Not sure why more don't use them, some of their jerk baits work really good, too. Now it seems the only ones people talk about are foreign or $20, but i picked up a Berkley skinny cutter 110 at Rural King the other day for sale at like $3 and it has nice reflective foil in the bottom half and really nice hooks and the suspending action and rattle work really well.

      @bassnazi4713 5 лет назад +1

      @Dakota Stepp yea, part of the downfall when you move down to that size, but an easy fix. I usually use some slightly heavier ones just to help hold them down more in the water.

    I use a 7' G. Loomis GLX 2-6 lb fast action rod. Expensive, but you can feel every wobble and wriggle of a jig or crank bait. The soft rod makes hook set easy. It's my favorite crappie rod on 2 or 4 pound line.

It's really funny I have been sharpening my crankbaits. I usually use the ones you do for Bluegill , I love bluegill for eating more than any other fish. if you want to try a larger crank I use the rebel, and bomber. Great tip about the net, on one of my trips I forgot mine and as I was teetering on some rocks I lost the biggest bluegill and bass that I have ever caught.. seems it's always the big ones haha keep up the great work and good health to you

    Love your channel. How about flyfishing for crappie? Use an intermediate sinking line. If you use fluorocarbon you can use heavier line. We use the terms 4x 5x 6x etc not pound test because line varies in pound test. We use the diameter to describe the line. Take that treble hook off and put a single barbless hook on it.

    This is so nice and mellow, and very informative. Happy to sub and anticipate watching everything when I get back from fishing.

    Looks like a great fishing spot. Love the old school Eagle Claw rod. Inexpensive and darn near indescribable.

    I'm from Gadsden Alabama and I've caught 2 pound spotted bass with the "tiny shad" version of the same crank bait in extremely high pressured fishing areas but I've only hooked 1 small crappie unfortunately I didn't land him however I've caught dozens of eater bass and bream especially green sunfish they absolutely love it I even caught a 6" fingering channel cat with it

    Love it! I catch alot of white bass on crankbaits like that, but not many crappie. I've read those stripe nose crappie can't reproduce. Is that true? I thought maybe that's why you don't keep them. Just wondering. Love your channel! 😀😀😀

    Well sir I bought that exact rod a few weeks back and it is definitely a great panfish rod. I have never used the bitsy crank bait for crappie but it does work well in creeks. 👍👊
