Building a NEW fly tying station from an OLD dining room table | Beyond The Fly

  • Up to this point I had been using a beautifully made "mini" fly tying table that was given to me by my awesome family. I would move from different areas of the house just so I could set the table on a flat surface and turnout some fly's. Flash forward several months and it was time to trash our family dining room table. After looking at the table closely, I could see all the notes, scribbles, and past memories that had been made. The table had histories, been through moves, and shared our secrets. The table couldn't end up in the landfill. The memories couldn't be thrown out. Something had to be done!?! The idea to re-purpose the table was eventual born! A mental design was created and all my tools were pulled out to save a part of our family history. Here is where the video comes into play. You get to see the entire build in just seven minutes! I can't wait to see what kind of adventures and stories are created from this latest addition to the Beyond The Fly shindig. I hope you enjoy as much as I did building this new fly tying station. Thank you for watching and hanging out here on the channel. I greatly appreciate all the support.

    This channel is dedicated to more than just fly fishing. It is about overcoming major life challenges, embracing the new, sharing the adventures, and soaking up the healing power of simply "being outside". It has taken years to get to this point and I can truly say that fly fishing is a key component in my recovery from a continued battle with Lyme Disease.

    • @BeyondTheFly
      @BeyondTheFly  Год назад +1

      Thank you sir! Heck, I bet you could come up with something, even if it’s a super small project to start. If you can hit up water carrying a Moonshine Rod then you’ve got some skills that carry over, attention to detail being one of them. Your not afraid to fail being another, cause you have a fly rod. Never had I personally had so many failures, as leaving the house with a fly rod in hand. The reward for the effort always comes at some point. That’s the beauty. Hope you have some fun plans ahead for the 2023 season. Thanks again for watching and dropping a comment. 🙏🏻🎣

    • @BeyondTheFly
      @BeyondTheFly  2 года назад

      That’s such a great feeling! Just be patient with yourself at the beginning. Remember that feeling of being excited for something new. • @canadianflyfisher3247
      @canadianflyfisher3247 2 года назад +1

      @@BeyondTheFly Thank you, I've heard that there is nothing quite like netting a fish on a fly you've tied yourself. I am looking forward to that feeling. I'm going to make a small travel cabinet to tie out of at the beginning since limited to only having a small section of my reloading bench to tie flies from until I move to a bigger place. The plus side is I'll always have a sweet little fly tying travel cabinet for my fishing trips. I'll probably do a build video like you did. In your video when you were hand sanding and the caption said applying minwax and then you applied the stain on I thought you were hand rubbing a wax finish on and then putting a clear coat on it after. I went into panic mode and watched it again to make sure lol. Your bench came out great.

    • @BeyondTheFly
      @BeyondTheFly  2 года назад

      That is spot on with there is nothing like it! It just boosts your confidence on the water, elevating it to a new level. I say get your film on with that build. I love watching people create things and see it from start to finish. Between each coat of miniwax I used a super fine grit sandpaper between each application of stain. After several coats and things looked smooth it was capped off with the clear coat to protect from any water, tea, or coffee :)
      Looking forward to hearing more about your journey.
