i went back to my stock 14/39 and just went my top speed over 62 mph for 17 miles.i made a trip to the beach and the wind was so bad 40 mph is the fastest it would hit. we have one very tall bridge just before we get to the beach and i toped it at 18 mph. got to the beach it was a joke that day so i headed home. and 62 mph was easy to hit and maintain. i topped that bridge at 48 mph. and going down it i just pulled up my shifter and it hit 67 going down it. that dont count i know but i did find out i dont think i want to run that fast on that bike again. but when i got to the bottom and slowed down to about 60 i let it go back into gear and it picked up to 62 and stayed there until i had to turn off 17 miles down the road then it was back to my normal 45 to 50 mph. but it was fun while it lasted.
Thanks for sharing this experimentation. Interesting to hear the differences. This bikes vibration transfer was the worst I've ever experienced. I installed 2 point Barkbusters w/external bar end weights, Grip Puppies, and a Kitaco Handlebar Brace. These items greatly reduced the felt handlebar to hand vibrations.
I find it pretty bad as well. Idk if I mentioned it but after one all day mostly 4th gear/near top speed ride I woke up with vibration induced hives in my hands. First for me, very uncomfortable. A tach would've made this much a more interesting test and I failed account for the speedo being off. Regardless imo the difference in buzz threshold is not enough to be worth the trade off in torque. I went back to the 14t. I have learned to keep a light grip, lots of breaks, keep my left hand off whenever possible. Interesting to hear those items made a difference for you. I have been hesitant to install hand guards under the impression it requires removing the bar weights. Thanks for sharing, will have to give all those things a shot.
It’s just not made to be a highway cruiser. Most of the paved roads I use around here are 35-45 mph limits and it’s fine for those and the many gravel forest roads.
Thank you for this. I know it's a 3yo video, but I'm trying to decide between the Cub or Trail and was hoping a gearing change would get me a little more mph 'cause I really like the looks of the Trail and its taller seat. Bummer.
Yeah I was not understanding what was going on until you said you're at 6000' I'm in Florida highway 205 I have about 65 pounds of stuff on my bike I have about 40 pounds steel Box on the back I have my everything all the racks the extra gas can filled everything and mine right now I can still hit 61 but when I start to go up-and-down hills I'm anywhere between 53 and 55
That looks like a lot of fun to me. I really love how quiet the factory exhaustis.. With that said: A aftermarket exhaust like Morawaki demonstrate approachability 5% horsepower gaun and similar torque gain. Stock an engine that's specked out to put out just under 10 horsepower that's pretty good. Apparently the factory ECU will compensate for the better flowing exhaust within 30 miles or so. . More air in can only be more power if you can have as much air flowing out. Anyhow, I really like your video and I wanted to put my 2 cents in and see where you go with things Thank you, for the video and sharing your thoughts on such a pleasant ride. Are you riding in Imperial County California?
Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I haven't modded mine but understand the desire. Once Honda can provide enough bikes to make it worth while I bet there will be dedicated ECUs just for the Trail. It'll be interesting to see if it grows into a whole scene like the Grom has. I'm in Utah actually, but yes similarities to parts of the Imperial Valley. Thanks for watching!
For what decent aftermarket exhausts cost you have to be out of your mind to spend the money for one for the CT 125 to gain a measly 1/2 HP perhaps, that you will be hard pressed to even notice a difference. It's basically doing the same thing as when you attached a playing card to the rear spokes on your bicycle when you were a kid. You honestly knew for a fact you were going 10 MPH faster from the BRRRRRR noise... yeah sure kid. Oh yeah that's right modern youth are too special to ride bicycles to get around these days. Anyways more money than brains on this exhaust thing I say....
That's great to know, thanks for sharing. I may have to try it. Im leaning toward the 143 too. But also hoping the BBK options increase as more get delivered. I'd like to buy a complete kit with ECU and cam.
Hi Mike, yes I have considered it, but yet to try it. 15t was just easier to test. I talk about it at the end of part 2 and list it and the other most likely ratios for comparison. ruclips.net/video/XOFZkgzxxaE/видео.html I don't know for sure but 14-37 might require a shorter chain. I'm curious how much of the lost torque and top speed with the 15t will be gained back with 14-37. Splitting hairs probably but with 8 neck snapping hp every bit counts right?😁. I'd love to hear how it works out if you try it. Thanks for watching!
We have looked on line for a 15 tooth front sprocket, but there are a lot of Other numbers with it and I Don’t know What all the correct numbers for the 125 trail are.🤷🏻♂️I guess there for the thickness and chain type and more… What are all the numbers for the one you have, or better yet, a link to yours..!!
Hi Anna, I bought a JT sprocket, part # JTF273-15. I think I got it on Amazon but it's been too long. Pretty standard sprocket fits lots of bikes and I believe all the Honda minis.
I hear you, after spending my summer riding mostly this bike I have had to temper my expectations and remember it's performance is right in line with its name. It's so close to being a great all around machine, but does fail for road duty other than city streets, it's a 40-45mph bike. And double bummer to watch the Cub, Grom and Monkey easily do 55-60 with the same motor. Even the 110cc Navi appears to be capable of similar top speeds. Can only assume it was a tradeoff for off road torque. It's too bad they didn't include the dual range tranny or a 5th gear... Or both.
@@krystianandrzejczyk3750 I think it must be both yep. To cloud the waters a little more and not an apples to apples comparison, I picked up a '23 Grom and I find the upgraded motor to be much better. More torque, more able to maintain speed on hills and much smoother/less vibes, regardless of the 5spd.
Yep, the 15t doesn't make any difference in top speed actually, it doesn't have enough power to go any faster, it just makes the motor run less RPMs and a bit smoother. But yes, you really notice how much worse it is on the hills. So in the end it's of little benefit. After almost 3k miles I've come to the conclusion that the stock gearing is about right for the purpose of the bike, it's nothing more than a modernized Trail 110, (I have both)

@@zamdrang Maybe check this out. The stock bar ends are junk compared to what Barkbusters offer.

You are going faster with a 15T, your speedo is showing a slower speed because the speedo sensor is on the counter shaft instead of the front wheel.
I tested both again with GPS and actually got identical top speeds within 1 mph. Hope to post that video, been too swamped to get it edited
I consider the performance of this bike a fail by honda... A125 should EASILY handle 55..60 miles an hour..👎🙄👎

The 125 Super Cub can hit 60.
Same engine, different gearing.
Not sure why the Trail can't do the same with a gearing change
