Wow! Intimidating, except for the precision of fit. I also enjoy your selection of music. I have an extraordinarily wide range as a classical vocalist, which enables me to sing all eight registers of the chorus. (I still require training, however.)
Happy New Andy and family and crew, if it3street legal in the USA, I can see that being your daily drive to work and the supermarket, take care and keep safe and well.
I think all the silver vinyl parts are braided steel lines so the only thing that would need to be painted are the connectors and fittings at the ends. How's the seams on those, it's really hard to remove seam lines from vinyl parts.
I have this and the Trumpeter kit. They both are really detailed. The Meng kit has much less chrome plated parts than the Trumpeter which is a good thing as the real car didn't have much chrome. I am disappointed that the Meng kit didn't include the hood lock cables like the Trumpeter kit does. Decsls are great and include the red trim for the headlights
I hope the molding quality is better than the Meng Dr.1 Triplane with its warped sprues...(The sprue here with the exhausts on does indeed look warped!).
@@dr.doppeldecker3832 Yes, and when Wingnuts produced the test shot sprues, they were perfect, not bent with broken parts like they are now...I saw and photographed the prototype at Scalemodelworld 2019, and still have the photo. It was fine. Meng have messed this up and we should treat their new releases with caution. It's also a stupid price!
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab the price is ridiculous.... I really dont understand how such a high price is reasonable?! Even if it would come with a rc upgrade (motor etc) it would still be a high price. But over 300€ just for a 1/12 scale model? So far i have build two models from Meng, the M4A3 "Victory Kiss" and the Panther "Barkmann". I got both kits for 45€ each which was a reasonable price imho. Both kits come with a lot (!) of photo etch details and resin figures. The fit of both kits was superb and the parts had zero flash. Are there any other kits beside their Fokker Triplane which are not recommendable?
There was a small decal for the New Zealand Club logo just in front of the door that doesn't seems to be on the decals sheet. I guess Indycals will come up with a new set for this car.
Hello Andy I am currently building the Ford GT 40 and have found that the parts tree L and the parts tree H are missing. They are also missing in the unboxing performance. Please check if this is Meng's mistake. Unfortunately, I only noticed it on page 49 in the building instructions when I was looking for part L1. Greetings MAX from Hamburg
Got this kit a couple of weeks ago, I think I like the Trumpeter body better than Meng's. the shape of the headlight openings and front hood/trunk opening seems more accurate on the Trumpeter/Magnifier body as well as the shape of the rear curving under to the rear wheels. The Meng engine is way better than the T/M engine; Meng chassis components, rear axles (u-joints), and tires are better too. The Meng interior is better, especially the seats and dash board. Unfortunately for the cost of theming kit it's especially sad that they didn't get the body right as it's the most prominent part of the kit.
@@djlorean I guess it depends on what issues bug you the most. If I had a good look at the Meng, I think I would go with Magnifier and the KA parts. KA has issues too. Mostly I'm disappointed that such high end kits and upgrade sets of an epic subject are so flawed.
The marketing blunders of Meng are amazing. Meng tooled the exact same kit Trumpeter did just a few years ago going head to head with their $300-$400 model against a $150 model. They could have complemented the Trumpeter version by tooling the gorgeous Ferrari 330 P4 in 1/12 and made a pile of profit. Currently the only P4 available in this scale is the resin MFH kit for $1000 and they have reissued it several times. Though not in the movie, an injected plastic Porsche 917 would be a hit in 1/12 too. Italeri seem to have the only marketing sense for the scale. I understand their 1/12 prewar car kits like the new Alfa and Bugatti 35 are very popular.
That looks awesome and would welcome the opportunity to build it but it is too big for my collection. I REALLY wish someone would offer a retooled 1/24 scale kit. Honestly doesn’t even have to have the opening doors just a quality fitting kit.
Is this a slightly cleaned up Trumpeter repopulate? The plastic portion of the seats look a lot like the terrible seats in the Trumpeter kids. Unfortunately, the KA resin upgrade wasn’t much better. Does the KA super detailing kit for the Trumpeter work on this kit as well?
How does this compare to the Trumpeter? saw it today, was tempted, do have an unbuilt Trumpeter. I guess this one is Ford approved. I was a bit hesitant seeing the bag of screws..I don't know why it bugs me(visible screws, say on bottom)..am I alone?..lol
Trumpeter got much more chrome sprues, no spare wheel, no rubber seat pads, worse resolution and accuracy on minor details. Though it is priced sane comparing to meng toy.
I bought the trumpeter and it’s a nice kit with all the Ford badging you just got to spell the Ford out the separated the letters.I would say the trumpeter is just as nice or better. But that’s my opinion.
@@vibeforge Hey..thanks. Yes, the Meng did have some sticker shock..I understand though, new tooling, small market. I'm sure it's a more accurate kit. I'll have to look and the Trumpeter engine and compare how improved the Meng might be. Thanks!!

The photos Meng released of the assembled kit have left me underwhelmed. Visable screw heads all over the suspension and a general lack of finesse in the engine compartment. Vinyl tires? Yuck. On the shelf all closed up it will look great, opened up not so much. I would expect more for the money. Undoubtedly the aftermarket will improve this kit but suddenly you will have a $500+ project. Damn right he did. Makes you wonder why Bruce didn't hand him the trophy. Like Schumacher did to barricello that time. I wouldn't want to win anything that way...
It looks like a lovely kit although very expensive. For that money it’s a shame that they didn’t include decals for the third car in the (in)famous 1-2-3 finish. From memory it was gold but a similar pattern to the Ken Miles car (including the red flashes) so I don’t think it would have needed a much larger decal sheet.
I like it but not worth the money to me, I have the trumpeter and I can probably buy 3 of them for the price that meng wants! I'll have to wait and buy it when it gets cheaper! Lol and great unboxing and review Andy!! I'm glad that you did a video brother!
Old style molds were 1 top piece and 1 bottom piece, slide molding has multiple pieces that join onto the sides of the top & bottom pieces in order to be able to make things like hollow exhausts and pipes/gun barrels etc. Basically it means not just detail from top & bottom but from the sides too. Hope that helps !
Meng is proud of their models. Probably only uses 50 cents more styrene, why so much more than a 1/24th 😜. I really just want the tires to tuck up under a 69 Mach 1

On the other hand, I thought their 1/35 A7V although also relatively expensive at the time, was not unreasonable all things considered about that kit. But this Ford sets a new precedent. Over AUD$450 excluding international shipping on another very competitive online site more conducive to value if shipping to my country! It has to be said, the price of this is 'steep' -understatement. One would have to the definitive car modelling fanatic to buy at that price in my book.
Well from what I can see it comes with parts that you have to get aftermarket with the trumpeter kit. Like the spare wheel, the red front fender decals, some more photo etch parts, the blue wheel line decals. Personally for 400 bucks it should have all that plus a driver figure included..
