    This episode has the other major misconception (though it might have been common at the time so realistic to include it). The baby would NOT have absorbed the radiation from the mother thus saving her. They both got exposed to radiation, roughly the same amount. Both were affected by the radiation they absorbed. The difference was in an adult most of our cells have stopped dividing or are dividing slowly. That means the cell has time to repair the damage from the radiation (up to a point...and by the way I studied the mechanisms behind what I am saying in a scientific paper though normal vs. cancer cells rather than adult vs. fetal, but the concepts almost certainly apply). In a fetus the cells are dividing rapidly. So they do not have time to repair the damage, so the impact of the radiation is greater on the fetus than the mother. This is also the basis of why radiation therapy affects tumors more than our cells, and why we get certain side effects from radiation therapy. Hair loss, digestive problem, blood problems. Our hair follicles, intestinal lining, and bone marrow all are dividing rapidly. So they too are more susceptible to radiation than the rest of our body.

    It wasn't really that harsh of the soldier at the beginning, The cow would have had to be destroyed anyway..

    You asked about Afghanistan. The Soviet Union was at war in Afghanistan from 1979-1989. They lost over 50,000 troops and was even more disastrous then the US war there. It’s considered by many to be one of the major reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union.

      It's also the reason the Taliban came to power. The West supplied the Mujahideen (freedom fighters) with weapons to fight the Soviets, but when the Soviets left a power vacuum was created which allowed them to take over using a lot of the weapons and tactics they learned from us during the Afghan-Soviet War. Bin Laden and al-Qaeda also originated during that war, although they didn't get any direct training or weapons from the West

      And now they've permanently lost 150k at very least (much higher likely) in just under 2,5 years in Ukraine and nobody bats an eye. This just shows how much more skillful russian propaganda became since soviet times.

      @@PUARockstar indeed, the Russian government has successfully weaponized social media and the internet to spread mass disinformation and convince their own people and a lot of people in other countries, including Westerners, that they're fighting the war for a just cause and that they're winning when the reality is that they invaded Ukraine for no other reason than a land grab and they've lost a colossal amount of troops and equipment doing it

    For me, the line about how children have to be sacrificed for the sake of their parents' future was the main takeaway. You can tell the character of a society or political system just by how it treats its young.
    In this case it'd probably be closest to Francisco Goya's famous painting of Saturn.

      The series was shot in color. But a lot of it is in black & white. In this scene, it is grey and murky. A metaphor for the decay and institional stasis of the Soviet Union. ( And the current Russian Federation).

    According to the plot of the film, no one even cares about the safety of the population of Pripyat. And only the international reaction forced the Soviet authorities to evacuate the city. In reality, on the evening of the 26th, a decision was made to evacuate. On the 27th, by 17:00, the entire population was evacuated. Within a few hours, 1,000 buses and thousands of drivers were assembled, evacuation routes were planned, road safety and convoy escort were ensured, food, recreation and housing were organized to accommodate the evacuees. All apartments in Pripyat were opened and a full accounting and assessment of the property was carried out. The cost of things left in Pripyat during the evacuation was reimbursed to everyone at the expense of the state.

    Firefighters from the Pripyat division understood perfectly well that a fire was raging at a nuclear power plant. And they understood perfectly well that the debris lying on the ground could be radioactive. But the scriptwriters made them out to be savages who do not have not only special fire training, but even school education, which in the USSR was of very high quality.
    Well, of course, at a nuclear power plant in the USSR there is only one dosimeter and it is locked somewhere in the bins. In reality, nuclear power plants have their own dosimetrist service, which regularly and on schedule monitors the background radiation at the nuclear power plant.

    According to the plot of the film, Dyatlov sees pieces of hot graphite. In reality, he saw nothing. In the story, Dyatlov insults everyone and accuses everyone of mistakes. In reality, Dyatlov personally toured the territory of the nuclear power plant. He received severe radiation exposure and radiation sickness, from which he died. According to the plot, Dyatlov does not believe anyone that the reactor is destroyed. In reality, he is the first to claim that the reactor core exploded.

    The soldiers are drunkenly and this despite the fact that at the scene of the liquidation of the accident there are dozens of generals, high-ranking officials, academicians and scientists, high-ranking representatives of the CPSU and journalists. And all this is also happening at a time when the anti-alcohol campaign of 1985-1987 is operating in the USSR.
    And there are still a bunch of false propaganda facts in this film that you’ll be tired of listing.

  • @Victoratify
    @Victoratify 2 месяца назад

    There was no one on the mythical “bridge of death” at the time of the accident. It was late at night. Immediately after the accident, a radiation survey of the nuclear power plant and the city of Pripyat was organized. There was no radiation on the bridge at night yet. During the day, the bridge was generally closed to the public. So no one was there and no one died from it. But the screenwriters need more blood, more deaths, more suffering - after all, this is a film about the bloody Soviet Mordor.

    • @PUARockstar
      @PUARockstar 2 месяца назад +4

      Don't be too uptight about it, misha, you're still living in a bloody mordor right now.

    • @davidmichaelson1092
      @davidmichaelson1092 Месяц назад +3

      Some of your comments I believe are possibly true. But as soon as the explosion happened, everyone is awake. By the time the go to the bridge to watch, the radiation would DEFINITELY have spread to the bridge. Plus I have heard accounts that confirm that people WERE on the bridge, but that the report that they ALL died has never been confirmed.
      Every Russian, Byelorussian, Ukrainian not to mention Bulgarian, Czech, Pole, Hungarian etc I have known would definitely agree that the Soviet Union was Mordor.
      Question. Do you work in the nuclear power industry? Because I have known people in the industry who defend it as much as they can. I remember dozens of American nuclear advocates say straight out that the Fukushima plant COULD NOT melt down. Then it did. They shut up.
      Alternatively, are you pro communist? I know some people who are apologists for communism even in America, so possible. But then again, if you advocated for communism you, to quote Ricky Ricardo, "you have some 'splaining to do!"
      Alternatively you are a more modern propogandist, part of Putin's efforts to make Russia Great Again.
      Which is it? Again, some of your criticisms are worth listening to and looking into. But some are just plain wrong.
