I like how you changed up the "mastered" wall, because I totally agree that not every child can achieve a 90%... I have a student who has been struggling and getting 60s on tests, and his most recent test got a 82%... and to him that was a huge change, but even trying his hardest he couldn't achieve that 90%. I applaud your outlook on it!
Watching this video makes me so happy! Pending my TExAS content exam, I have a job lined up as a middle school math teacher within the next few weeks!!! I think I want to do a coffee bar themed classroom!
I hope your first year of teaching MS went well! This will be my tenth year in the classroom, but this past year was my first year teaching at the secondary level... I taught 3rd & 4th grades for 8 years, and this past year I transferred to our MS to teach 7th grade math (special ed; self contained learning disabilities). It was quite interesting, to say the least! LOL... Definitely a different experience, for sure! I will be teaching sixth grade math this year, but this time I will be co-teaching in an in-class support classroom. I am looking forward to sixth grade!! Good luck this upcoming year, and thanks for all the awesome ideas!!
Thank god we didn’t have those desks in middle school bc in some classes we had group desks and some single with normal rectangular desks. In elementary they were triangular and so hard to work with (according to my amazing 5th grade teacher) but he would have probably gave up with the ones you have.
I just like that age group and think they’re typically under served. I like the fact that they’re a bit strange and trying to figure life out, but still so honest and curious. You can just be goofy right along with them! I also like the content level. I taught high school math last year and I really prefer the middle school content.
Is middle school scary? I’m going into to middle school soon and really nervous I’m not very good at math and teachers usually are kind rude to me about that so I’m scared because my teacher says middle school is worst :( thank you!
I'm sorry you're feeling nervous. Middle school is definitely different than elementary, but I feel like that's also where students' friendships grow stronger! It's okay if math isn't your thing. As long as you participate and ask whenever you don't understand something, I would say 99.9% of teachers will be more than willing to help you. Try not to worry about it! Everyone else will be in the exact same boat of trying to figure everything out (:
the mastered wall makes me really sad. i love your twist and perspective on it

What made you choose middle school? I am really considering doing middle school math as well but get discouraged from it from a lot of people.
