I think his ability to be consistently inconsistent in the playoffs is what is polarising. We all know he's gonna drop two bombs and two stinkers in these finals.
No one can unlock it, but him. And unfortunately, you’re either born with it, or you’re not. He’s not born with that mamba mentality, as desperately as he wishes..
Bro it’s so true, he’s kind of lebron-esque in that way where if he had that black out aggression like he did in g6 against Boston in 2012, he’d legit be the greatest of all time. Not saying Tatum is ever gonna get close to goat talks, but if he had the relentless aggression he’d be a Kobe lite
Frustrating cause he’s legit 6’10” and could get to the cup at any point, but instead settles for contested threes and turnaround midranges. He’s really got that passive gene
@@silverspadelordalso, he was a part of that Duke team that Coach K locked them out of the gym, and Coach specifically said “some of you are more concerned with the NBA than winning now”.
I think a big part of it is Jaylen Brown. The fact that they play a similar way, similar role, and they aren’t that far off from each other in terms of production. JT is better, but not by enough that it would be comparable to the other best players in the league and their costar. Example: Jokic to Murray. Giannis to Middleton/Dame now. Luka to Kyrie. SGA to JWill. So there’s always gonna be some lack of clarity as to who is responsible for their success. Obviously the answer is both, but we’re talking about perception, and that can make it seem like neither of them are as good as they really are. It’s kinda funny because it’s like just because both of these guys are really good and have tons of success, it makes them both seem less good individually, and where neither of them are “that guy”. But if you were to put either of them on some of these 15-9 seed teams, on their own, they would probably both be good enough to be the guy and people would talk about them very differently.
This isn’t about stats lol it’s about showing up in the biggest moments and taking over a game in the clutch, which Tatum of course has done before but very often he DOESN’T. We all see it, he doesn’t have that IT factor when it comes to the biggest stages. Not saying Celtics can’t win it all bc their starting 5 is that good.
@@TTVShankyCTright they shoulda of at least made more finals appearances they should of at least beat gsw, no idea what this dude talking bout viewer fatigue ya maybe fatigue of watching them chock
As a Heat fan, I've watched him a lot. His biggest flaw is that he's not aggressive. He doesn't do enough to shift the defense and lets himself get taken out of the game too easily. What makes it especially frustrating is his size and athleticism. The biggest flaw Denver exposed about my Heat last year was our lack of size. Whenever we succeded in keeping the ball out of Jokic's hands, we'd have to worry about Aaron Gordon posting up anybody not named Bam (who would typically be on Jokic). I don't see any reason the Celtics couldn't have similar success seeing as they were a big team too and had even better spacing. Especially with the number of times I saw Tatum take long jumpers over guys like Kyle Lowry and Gabe Vincent. He really makes you forget he’s 6’9”. Yes he's overhated but some of the criticism is definitely valid and it would make him a better player
I honestly agree with what you said. It’s just frustrating as a Celtics fan watching him play cause his inconsistency is what makes people question him.
He does not have a signature style or all-time skillset. He is not a great passer like Jokic or Luka, not a great back to basket scorer like Embiid, not a great shooter like Curry, not a great paint scorer like Giannis, not a great mid range scorer like SGA. But he is elite (or almost elite) at every facet of the game. He is even clutch at certain moments. And a pretty good defender as well. But nothing of him stands out; plus playing with someone who is basically a lite (or upgraded sometimes) version of him does not help. But that does not take away the fact that he is still a top 5-10 player currently in the NBA. Not a lot of players right now are elite on both sides of the court like him.
🎯 and I believe he’s conscious and even sometimes too conscious of how he plays. He’s so fine tuned at this stage to have a balance to his game. As much as he loves Kobe, he doesn’t take many Kobe-esque shots. He seems to be focused on being efficient and that can lead to him looking for shots when it’s already too late because he looks to be trying to maintain some sort of efficiency in the offense, and I believe that’s what drives most fans and people who watch him often crazy, is how it looks like he’s taking himself out of the game sometimes, and while that’s the optic he’s still doing things to try to make the team better. That’s a lot to juggle for a man his age with the pressure on him, and he handles it with a calm and poise that will define him when he starts winning championships.
I feel like one of the big reasons is that he’s not a very “polarizing” player. He doesn’t have some superpower that everyone raves about (Jokic passing) or some glaring weakness (Luka defense, Giannis shooting), he’s just very very very good at everything - great defender, great shooter, great isolation player, but not necessarily “best in the world” at anything. Because of that, media talking heads won’t cover him as much and people overall have weaker opinions about him.
Luka has no glaring weaknesses. (Except maybe his hatred for refs). His defense is average in the regular season and it goes up a notch in the playoffs. This isn’t 2022 still. Nobody watches tho.
I'd just like to say that while JT has more NBA playoffs experience, Luka has been playing professionally since he was 16 so I'd say Luka has more experience in general
I don’t compare the Euro league to the NBA not everybody in the Euro league are Jokic or Luka caliber players. A lot of them come to the NBA and are busts like Mario Hezonja. Playing professionally and playing professionally in the best league in the world are two different things.
@@nolimitjayo6375 No since Tatum is the better overall player, but the convos definitely become more crazier while Tatum probably falls out of top 5 convos (depending on his finals performance whilst) FMVP doesn't always go to the best player.
I think one of the reasons he’s so heavily discussed is because he has all of these accolades. People look at the resume and age and assume he’s top five. But he’s always had a great team around him. And then when it comes time to make all nba teams they’ll say he’s the best player on the best team. How can he not make it right? Jaylen brown winning the ecf mvp over him was the icing on top for me. He’s a great player. Top 6-10 in the league probably. But he doesn’t get the accolades he gets if he isn’t in Boston.
I DONT EVEN HAVE HIM IN MY TOP 15 PERSONALLY💯🤷🏾♂️HOW ARE U SUPPOSED 2 BE A MVP CANDIDATE TOP 5 PLAYER IN THE NBA BUT UR SIDEKICK PLAYS BETTER THAN U WHEN IT MATTERS😮💨I JUS SEEN TATUM FOLD TOO MUCH BRO I WILL BELIEVE THIS BOSTON TEAM ONCE I SEE IT BUT UNTIL THEN THEY ARE THE BIGGEST PRETENDERS IN THE NBA 2 ME💯
@@waff6ixI mean I get where ur coming from, but he’s easily top 15 and by far the best on the team. His gravity and ability to play make just make him better than brown. He garners the main defensive attention so others can thrive more. The team overall is a lot more controlled when he’s on the court, compared to a lot more eradicate when he’s off. I believe he just needs to get it done to get his respect, but he might be getting the most criticism for his accomplishments out of any top 10 player outside of lebron and Giannis before he got his chip. He has a good team around him sure, but like, 1 all nba player (it’s himself), some all defensive teammates and 1 other all star teammate is just a well assembled team. A large part of the Celtics dominance this year was because of Tatum and his availability to play games with his team too
@@Frank-nz1wr Bro. You’re being disingenuous when you try to make it seem like his team isn’t one of the most stacked teams we have ever seen. That whole starting line up is all-star type players. Jrue holiday. A consensus top defensive player by the players of the league. Derick White. The best glue guy in the league. Jaylen Brown. One of the best wings in the league. Just got named ecf mvp. Jayson Tatum. Kp. A walking mismatch for teams. Great rim protector and one of the most important pieces of their team. Their bench is the only part of their team that you can knock on. They are a phenomenal team man. And the stuff they’ve done in the regular season tells you everything you need to know. It is not Jayson Tatums team. It’s the Boston Celtics. They are all good.
I will agree that he is over hated especially by nba fans. But he is perfectly rated imo currently he is top 4-7 there is no argument for him being higher than Jokic Giannis or Luka
Is there anything he could do to change that opinion? Like if he balls out in the finals and definitively takes Celtics to the win would that cement him as top 3 undoubtedly?
@@Kdragonmcgiannis and jokic both won chips thou too before him with arguable less talent. And Luka is overall a better offensive player and way more consistent and MVP caliber player
Here's how I can describe it: A superstar "talent" gifted to be successful is the likes of a curry, bron, mj, kobe, etc. But often doesn't play like it, and even if successful, may get dismissed in the vain of tim duncan (team success arguments, no back to back arguments, never the best in the world arguments)
Nah you capping. Duncan carried way weaker rosters way harder. Especially 03. People have warped perception of Timmy because most remember his later part of career better. But before Manu and Parker developed into what we knew them in 2010s he hard carried them to that 03 chip, he was scoring 24 when avg for his team was like 88 total in finals. And he got his 2nd MVP, back to back, that season. And extra kicker, in 03 he was 26, just like Tatum is now. Timmy was clearly a superstar at that point and best PF in the league that year, probably best player. Tatum hasn't done nearly enough to warrant a Duncan comp.
@@szymciupol You putting words in my mouth. Did I say I believe that about Tim duncan? Did I say I thought it was warranted? Did I say JT is deserving of those comparisons? NO. I said it's how I can best describe JT's situation, and how people in general MAY talk about him and MAY dismiss him IF successful. Which yes, people generally have a bad habit of doing regarding his Duncans 05, 07, 13, and 14 finals runs.
Nope. Timmy delivered when it mattered the most. And hes the best defender all those years. He's like AD in that regard cause he dont get dpoy but is obviously the best defender in the league. When he was the primary option style of play he won the spurs a chip. When he was asked to sacrifice on offense and anchor the D he did that as well at the highest level. You obviously didn't watch timmy.

Tatum is great but he’s been in a great situation his whole career Boston has consistently added great players to the roster given the Jays the best opportunities to go win it all but every year Tatum has moments where he doesn’t look or play like the best player on the floor because of his inconsistencies. Other teams with great players need their guy to be great where Boston can win even when he plays bad and it goes to show how stacked the roster has been for him and he still hasn’t won.
This is just so false. He’s had 2 “great” teams, this year and last year. The Celtics have had a lot of playoff success due to JT and JB growing up earlier than expected (ECF in JT’s rookie year with him being the leading scorer after Kyrie and Hayward went down)
Oh how the general NBA fanbase forgets how the Celtics got a 3rd seed with a starting center as Enes Kanter and Daniel Theis as a backup. Knee injury Kemba means that Brad Wannamaker was our starting PG. We also still had a broken GH on a bench role after he shattered his ankle. @@tomasigarza3852
My hot take is that people don't like him just because he's in Boston and he doesn't have that "dawg" personality, he's kinda introverted and that's cool, but people misunderstand that with no having a killer mentality.
3:51 tells the story. Jaylen Brown the other star on his team has more ecf appearances than he does. if you've watched Tatum in the last few years you realize that a lot of his success is simply team success. He isn't like Luka, Jokic, Giannis, SGA, Bron , KD, Steph in which they aren't replaceable or expendable to their teams. Tatum could be replaced by any other star and they'll do his job the same if not better.
Unfortunately to his detriment in THIS conversation, he has always had the benefit of A. Being on a good team B. Having a running mate who is as good or maybe even better at certain times. He's a great young talent in the league, a jack of all trades. But the league right now is full of athletic beasts like giannis, embiid or basketball geniuses like Luka and Jokic. Winning solves alot but if he isnt the best player on the celtics in these finals the debate will continue.
Who cares what the media thinks he doesn't have to be that guy. As long as their winning and him and jaylen are at least considered superstars that's all that matters. When it's all said and done they both can at least make top 75
As someone who understands that the Celtics are probably going to win at 6 or 7, I think that the issue that people have is that who are the people who hate on JT wanted it to be storybook. Luka has the storybook pace, but part of it will be losing to Boston when his supporting cast lets him down
Comparing experience with luka is insane. Yeah maybe more nba playoffs, but in euro and world chapionships luka has way more high pressure games playing for Slovenia or madrid add nba playoffs and luka is the most experienced
Never seen a dude who averaged 30 get so much disrespect in my life. The team is great because of him people seem to ignore that. People are upset he has always had good role players around him and not got the job done all of the series that he has lost. He was expected to lose it outside of last year. Good roster construction shouldn’t be a slight to him, but it is because apparently you can’t have a good team at a young age.
It's actually simple: Jayson is a good (not great) player in a great team. He is just good enough for Celtics to keep him and keep hoping, but no way good enough to establish any kind of dynasty. Luka on the other hand... is already magical and great. He can crush your soul (Phoenix and Minnesota) and he can clutch with miracle shots.
@Azariah02 KP was better BEFORE and after luka and lukas playstyle clearly held brunson back a lot Jalen improved in 2023 but he wasn't dramatically a completely different player than he was in the 22 playoffs Truth of the matter is that Lukas playstyle isn't easy to fit around because ultimately he will be the one taking the most shots AND ball handling Large part of why Dallas won game 4 was that luka finally pushed the pace instead of grabbing a defensive board or wait for the rebounder to pass it to him near the paint, take 6-8 seconds off the shot clock to cross half court, dribble then call for a screen, slowly get the defender into said screen and from there play his shit Luka has had the highest time of possession out of any player since 2020 until this year Ironically brunson finished 1st this year lmao Massive difference between luka and jokic is getting ready off ball and fast decision making Jokic tends to be at the bottom of the league in time of possession among the highest usage rate players while luka is at the top
@jonjones9917 exactly especially hate that people keep repeating the fact that they have been to so many conference finals. The teams aren’t even the same and weren’t that good and overachieved in the playoffs which should get praised but is instead hated on. The only year they chocked was last year but people just never care how weird it was that your coach gets fired.
We as viewers forget one and the most important thing... Nobody gives a fuck who is the best or most talented player....they care about the most entertaining and debate worthy player....i think some legal trouble or gambling accusations can fix this😂
@@Snufz760 fumble? If you watch basketball you’ll see the history of failures every athlete goes through … JT just hasn’t won his big on yet & this is his opportunity like as far as any NBA player rn he’s been one of the most consistent players & durable players in the league and has always positioned himself to win
I think Jayson Tatum is an amazing player, but I think the reason why he doesn't have the same respect that other young superstars do is because Tatum can be a little inconsistent and passive at times. The passive bit isn't always a bad thing as Tatum does have great teammates that he can rely on in certain moments, but as you were talking about having "the guy" on a contending team then "that guy" is expected to take matters in his own hands and do everything he can to will the team to victory. Since Tatum hasn't had as many of those big moments as the circumstances may not have required them, I think that's why some people say Tatum is still found wanting.
To me, Jayson Tatum is already a superstar and arguably a top 5 player in the league. He just has to be more consistent and that’s the main gripe people and myself included have with him along with the fact that he has a good team with him too
I will say that JT has some truly great moments in the playoffs. Like the 2022 run that you mentioned and dropping 50 in Game 7. People joke about how the Celtics could win without Tatum but I don’t think that’s true. You could make an argument that they don’t even make the conference finals without him in 2022 and 2023. I think what’s hurt his reputation the most is making the CF his first years in the league. He was young and young players typically don’t have what it takes to win yet. Now that he is a bit older and already has made the finals I will say this is his make or break moment.
He is in those discussions cos he is and in most years was best player on Boston which was top3 seed in the east basically ever year he's played (they werent top4 once, in 20-21). But its not cos JT is carrying them like Jordan, Lebron or even luka. its cos with how nets trade turned out Cs basically had 2-3 max guys AND Brown+Tatum on rookie scale. Which is not a situation a good rookie finds himself in almost ever (closest to sth like this is that Detroit 2nd pick what if, if they didnt choose Darko how stacked would melo or dwade career be). Cos end of the day he is really good, but his resume is so stacked in a pretty large part because Celtics have been contenders for his whole career and he often was best, but even more importantly the most available of their top guys.
I believe he’s not regularly in the conversations or winning the awards because of the era he’s in. The league is flooded with generational talent, and he’s not very flashy. He reps like Clyde Drexler lowkey, just harder to stand out in a league this deep.
a big part of what makes legends is luck. some players are lucky enough to be drafted into good systems and constantly have reliable teammates to bail them out on those off nights, and some will be drafted into dogshit systems and be on their own. can we really say cade cunningham wouldn't be top 20 or top 15 in the league rn if he had a solid team and system around him? history rewards the lucky
I feel like the weird thing with Tatum is he’s so good all around but isn’t a top 5 guy at any one thing, maybe not even a top 10 at any single skill, and he’s been inconsistent so far when it matters on top of that. I also think the Kobe stuff actually hurts him. It’s one thing to be like “yeah this guy is my hero, I look up to him”, but the way Tatum does it almost makes it his whole identity as a player. Most of the time I see this guy off the court, he’s doing something Kobe related. He needs to be his own guy if he wants to be a true superstar. He can’t keep chasing someone else’s shadow. He made that narrative himself. Then to top it all off, he’s both in Boston who the rest of the league’s fanbases don’t exactly like (I would largely point towards their fans causing this. I genuinely think fans do more damage to a player or team’s reputation than they do themselves 99% of the time), and his team’s have always been good. He never had to struggle, he got drafted coming into the league on a team that was meant to be contending. It feels like he’s been here forever because of that and the fatigue definitely plays a role too.
I think you make a couple of connections that feel off: because the Celtics had success, Tatum must be the best player in the league? Because Tatum keeps making all nba first, he must be the best in the league? Has he ever made top 3 in an mvp vote? Not even close. Every year there is either an injured guy falling out of all nba first (embiid), a positional problem (jokic vs embiid), Tatum has always been the guy to fill that 5th slot on the team. So that makes him at least a top 8 guy in the league. Why cant we just leave it at that? Looking at his game the issue is obvious, way too many pull up jumpers where year in, year out, he is below league average, and it's not even close. If he wants to become an mvp candidate, he needs to improve his decision making.
As a Celtics fan, my frustration with Tatum is the same as most Celtics fans; he's got the talent, but not the heart. He's too passive in the worst ways, and it makes him inconsistent. While being passively inconsistent, he also becomes more actively pressured into performing well. And he tends to struggle as stakes get higher. The biggest issue with Tatum, and the Celtics, is that Jaylen Brown's game is more sustainable towards success. Because, unlike Tatum, keeps defenses honest from all ranges. He's a consistent threat from all 3 main scoring levels. Tatum tends to settle too heavily on his outside shooting (that damn sidestep) or only driving to force contact. He doesn't utilize his gifts effectively enough to REALLY take the mantle of that guy in the team. If/When the Celtics win, I wouldn't be surprised if Brown leads the charge.
The glaring BOS conundrum is that there is no clear defined leader/alpha on the roster. Tatum has been in the league 6 yrs, he clearly is not that. I believe it could be brown.
Main reason why I downplay JT a lot at least is cuz he's been on a good team his whole career. I've never seen him struggle. LBJ, Luka, and MJ all had struggles on a bad team and yet they were able to carry these teams to the playoffs. However, personally, I don't think JT is able to do this if he had a bad team. To me his offense is a lot of step back threes, mid range jumpers, and yes he can finish until its someone the same size or bigger than him. That problem was exposed by 2022 wiggins.
Idk the only time you have seen him have to do it was 2021. Brown missed the last like month of the season including the playoffs. Half the team got covid including Tatum missing large portions of the season. He dropped 50 in the play in game just to make the playoffs and then averaged 30 in the only playoff series you got with a fully healthy KD, kyrie, and Harden all average basically 25+ (harden 24.8) and even dropped 50 to not get swept with a starting line up that included Evan Fournier, Tristan Thompson, a washed up kemba, and Marcus smart against a team that started kyrie, kd, Harden, Joe Harris, and Blake griffin. So if that's the closest we have to him on a bad team that's not exactly a bad showing.
People forget Luka has been a pro in the euro league since he was a teenager. He's not new to championships as well. I don't think he'll be inexperienced in the finals as you guys think he will
The guys in the Euro league aren’t the best in the world. They have onesies and twosies like Luka and Jokic but the majority of them are normal role players in the NBA.
difference is really that JT has had a good team around him since he got drafted. if he was drafted to a bum franchise doing what hes doing he wouldnt catch any hate or disrespect. JT also not top 5 stoooop it
Spot on. Out of all the guys mentioned he’s had the most talent surrounding him,put tatum on those bum ass cavs teams hes not doing much. He’s perfectly rated. Hes top 5.
The problem I see with Tatum is that he relies too much on three point shooting that he forgets he is a nightmare matchup with his size. A 6"8 shooting guard/small forward. I also want to mention his lack of aggressiveness in some games. He doesn't want to be an alpha.
This is very simple - he doesn't pass the eye test the same way. He's made several CFs but that's only because it's been a stacked team in a weak conference. Accolades =/= automatically jumping over people who are better than you on the court itself. He'll get a ring this year, and Tatum is an all time player, but to just jump him over people like Jokic, Giannis, Luka etc would be unfair.
Not a lot of people have been to as many conference finals and NBA finals as Tatum has before 26. He’s top 5 already and after this postseason top 3. Been watching his he got drafted and the growth has been crazy to witness. He’s elite
Tatum is a quiet player. He doesn't stir up any controversy, he just stays in his lane and plays ball. He seems super laidback, doesn't trash talk, and fortunately was lucky enough to get drafted by a great organization, and he's the one who gets all the backlash. Tatum for me is by far the best player on the Celtics, in reg season and post. It's genuinely frustrating watching people say JB is better (JB is a great player and he's improved his game a lot this post season). Jt has been a top 5 player for me for the past 3 years without a doubt.
@@orlandowilliamson691 idk what games you’ve been watching but, Tatum is a better scorer all around, 10x better playmaker, much better at rebounding. The only advantage brown has is his athleticism and defense, but even that is very debatable. And let’s also keep in mind that Tatum is guarded by the best player 90% of the time, and gets doubled frequently. It’s not as close as people like to think. That’s why Tatum has made all nba first time in the last 3 years and brown hasn’t. Clearly I’m not the only one that sees this.

There's way too many instances where Jayson Tatum isn't even the best player on his team, he was drafted into one of the best teams in the league and I genuinely believe that if you replace JT with any of the actual superstars in the league they win at least 2-3 championships so far.

In my opinion I think with Tatum is that he wants to have this Kobe persona but he doesn’t have that raw I’m going to take your head off energy. He knows he’s good but just too laid back. Jaylen Brown always plays like he’s tired of being #2 to Tatum and it shows in his play. This is how I feel with Paul George is that he knows he’s good but doesn’t take the next step to be consistently great.
THANK YOU. Its boggling my mind how how much he wants to be Kobe gets glossed over as to why certain ppl have this perception of him. He PERSONALLY is not doing himself favors.
Congratulations to Boston for the 2023/2024 title but more so congratulations to Jaylen Brown who was subbed from ALL NBA but won Eastern Conference MVP and Finals MVP.
I feel Jayson Tatum is very underrated and he don't have no weakness to his game at all. I am 100% JT will get his first championship this season. When he get his first ring, the media will view him as the best player in the league.
Mavs in 6 buddy, Tatum has two huge weaknesses and that’s no clutch gene and inconsistency. Luka is the best player in the world, only player on his tier is Jokic.
Criticizing a player because he didn’t show up in the first half but scored 16 points in the fourth quarters is crazy It’s not just your job is the best player to score the ball you got to get your team involved it’s like you don’t know basketball you have a basketball channel. Are you stupid scoring in the first half means nothing did not start in the second quarter because those minutes really don’t mean a lot. You can still come back from a 20 point deficit.
It’s weird I wonder if Jayson will ever be a MVP winner even atleast once in his career or twice with the ceiling and projection his talent and ceiling is considering how he’s had much more success than Paul Pierce for example
The inconsistency in the playoffs make him feel like a bus rider sometimes. Like this playoffs for example, not only did he run through probably the weakest east in recent history but he didn't even win conference finals MVP. He's seems incapable of stamping himself as the undeniable best player like LeBron, Jokic, Luka or Steph. A lot of people are looking at that resume and they're not impressed.
Everybody doesn't feel like they got to win all the accolades, he had a teammate who was deserving as well and if it wasn't for him probably wouldn't have gotten it.
Swish you are 100 percent right especially in these NBA finals the next two weeks is going to tell a whole lot overall if he is truly that guy overall plus with Luka doncic the opponent he is playing against in his generation is going to be huge if he can answer the bell in the big moments overall.🏀💯
I've been coming around on Jayson Tatum. after looking into how durable he's been and how much he plays it's given me a new appreciation of him as his iron man status is a unique trait he has that gets overlooked
Tatum greatest strenght is not being egocentric maniac like others stars of nba. Which player would you take: 1. Player which has queit life generally. 2. Player which travels with airplane every day and yet thinks that earth is flat!!
My opinion is maybe because Tatum has JB next to him and more often than not he shows up more in big spots or takes over games in a more impactful way. The finals they lost to the Warriors isn’t that far removed and we clearly saw Brown was the better of the 2 in that series. If Tatum played average to his standards and not ass the last 2 games they would have a ring already.
For me. The reason I don’t praise him is because I care about regular season to post season translation. Which for Tatum, has been up and down. Some years he’ll be great. Others not so much. I value efficiency and defense. And everything on the floor pretty much. This year he hasn’t been good. His efficiency has been BAD. And he hasn’t been a good defender either. Edit: winning anything is a team accomplishment. So no matter how much he wins. If he’s not performing like that. Then it don’t matter at all.
☘Longtime Celtics fan here. I think one thing that hurts' JT's reputation is his lack of personability and comfort in his own skin. His interviews are always excruciating. He gives the impression of someone who doesn't trust the media, doesn't like people, and doesn't want to be there. (To be fair, Jaylen Brown, Joe Mazzulla, Jrue Holiday, and Payton Pritchard give off similar vibes. It's like they all graduated from the Bill Belichick Charm School.) Jokić can be the same way, but he does it with a sense of humor... he gives the impression he is, at least, trying.
I’m a Heat fan so I might be biased but I think he actually is great, he just hasn’t been able to get over that jump. I mean u hit it right on the head. He’ll have huge games and then disappear at a random moment… I love it but it would be frustrating if I was a fan
He’s talented, but hasn’t gotten over the hump in the playoffs yet. Also when he disappears at times is a bit frustrating too but he shows glimpses of what could be a special player, but need it more consistently in the playoffs to prove he’s the guy in Boston.
12:35 something that literally floats through the head of every single NBA fan is the fact that Tatum was playing in the 2022 finals with a fractured wrist and if it's unfair to judge other players when they're playing on injuries (like embiid) then I think it's unfair to judge Tatum when he's playing while injured
Tatum’s shooting percentages say it all. Even when he does drop 30, he goes 12/27 and goes I goes to the line a few times. There’s nothing elite about his game, he thinks he’s an elite 3 PT shooter but he’s actually ass, and constantly ruins games for the Celtics by refusing to stop jacking bricks. Even his mid range bricks more than it falls. His one redeeming quality is his size and his ability to drive and handle the ball at that size but it becomes useless in some games because he gets soft and starts jacking up contested jumpers because he’s afraid to drive
As a celtics fan, it can be frustrating watching tatum at times but he’s still young and i don’t hold onto any of his bad moments. He plays both sides of the floor and does a lot of little things superstars don’t usually do. He’s a team player, gets better each year, no ego just a kid who loves basketball! Really just looking forward to the future of JT and JB. We don’t see a mature and hardworking duo this equally talented that plays both sides very often. Ideally, id love to see them make the next jump and win it this year which i do believe will happen.
Tatum is similar to Kawhi in his short stint in San Antonio. Both were drafted to teams that were contending. Both played Lebron in the playoffs early and held their own (made a name for themselves). Once they started to lead their franchise, media saw "Face of the league," but neither guy put up "Face of the league" numbers even though they put up good/borderline great numbers. We all know what happened to Kawhi after and he for the most part cemented his legacy in Toronto (even though he has failed since then). Tatum has the opportunity to cement his legacy going forward.
I think his ability to be consistently inconsistent in the playoffs is what is polarising. We all know he's gonna drop two bombs and two stinkers in these finals.
Wasn’t there a series like 2 years ago where he shot 45%+ from 3 but below 35% from close shots lmao

Fax bro , it’s like that one story Coach K called him “ a soft ass St.louis kid” & he ended up going crazy that game

Yeah, 7 years, of constant failure.
Choker team so far. With fans that say every year is there year. That's why they're hated
JT has been so ahead of schedule that, now that he’s on time, people act like he’s late.

@@marcelo1458what teams?
Well said.
Exactly
And kind of a nonchalant personality
Like a jack of all trades and master of none.
This right here
I feel like he would be the best 2nd man right next to a player with an excellent trait (imagine jokic and tatum) since he's just great at everything

Tatum is great but he’s been in a great situation his whole career Boston has consistently added great players to the roster given the Jays the best opportunities to go win it all but every year Tatum has moments where he doesn’t look or play like the best player on the floor because of his inconsistencies. This is just so false. He’s had 2 “great” teams, this year and last year. The Celtics have had a lot of playoff success due to JT and JB growing up earlier than expected (ECF in JT’s rookie year with him being the leading scorer after Kyrie and Hayward went down)

Blessings to Swishout. The content is solid and must see
To me, Jayson Tatum is already a superstar and arguably a top 5 player in the league.
Brown, who has even rougher playoff lows than JT
Just goes to show you that fans are never good at recognizing the best players
Curry aint get good till 25 Tatum had already been to a finals and multiple cf by then
Exactly, didn’t get finals mvp until he was like 34yrs old either
let's face it:
he's a Pippen. Not a Jordan.
Tatum is simply a 6'10 with a perfect frame and long ass wingspan.
But he plays like his teamate payton pritchard 90% of the time.
difference is really that JT has had a good team around him since he got drafted. if he was drafted to a bum franchise doing what hes doing he wouldnt catch any hate or disrespect. JT also not top 5 stoooop it
Spot on. Out of all the guys mentioned he’s had the most talent surrounding him,put tatum on those bum ass cavs teams hes not doing much. He’s perfectly rated. Hes top 5.
@@najamchaudhry3304 may i ask for your top 5?
He's better than JB by a little. it's very close.
@akaswiff7757 He's definitely a better playmaker, and he has his rebounding, but everything else is very close.. he's not too much better is all I'm saying when you really look at how they play and it's been like this for yrs. The eye test dnt lie
@akaswiff7757 just watch this series vs mavs these dudes are way too close to say one is way better than the other.
@@orlandowilliamson691 the eye test doesn’t lie, but we must be watching different games. Idc either way I just want them to win.
Kinda crazy to say that a team that is 15-2 in the playoffs plays down to their competition. 9 of those 15 wins are by double digits.
90% of fans' bad habit of using TEAM accomplishments to rate and compare players is why JTs case is confusing to most of yall. His TEAMS' success fools yall and makes yall feel like yall should put him in a certain echelon of nba players. He does not have the IT factor, he does not give me the vybe of unstoppable in any given playoff series. he never scares me as an opponent in a series. he is a very good player but he is not a superstar level player
Dude was absolutely killing the pacers and cavs look at these game logs 25, 33, 33, 25, 36, 23, 33, 36, 26.. on 45% from the field averaging 9 boards and 6 dimes. 2 bad finals games that they WON followed these, but are you serious? Dude averaging 30-9-6 and playing lockdown D.
The it factor that sent giannis and embiid home with 46 and 51 point performances😂😂😂or the fact that he led his team in pts, reb, assist to a championship or what about the double teams he draw
@@malcolmhoover1654 oh brother...cherrypicking his best games is stupid and i can do that with alot of players. i dont know u and im sure youre smarter than this. and 22 ppg 7ast and 7rebs on 38% from the field is not mid asf lmao. and wtf does double teams have to do with anything??
You know what’s crazy is I don’t follow the nba but I always find your videos to be interesting and engaging
There's way too many instances where Jayson Tatum isn't even the best player on his team, he was drafted into one of the best teams in the league and I genuinely believe that if you replace JT with any of the actual superstars in the league they win at least 2-3 championships so far.
I feel like the mavs are gonna win in 7 games, but tatum is gonna play great overall and it'll redeem him from that bad 2022 finals. Tatum might be the new Dr. J. losing when he should be winning
JT has been SO blessed and lucky to have such a great team & organization around him. Had he been drafted to the wrong team, he would NEVER be sniffing Top-5 NBA status 🤷🏻♂️
he is a second option, harsh truth
Clown assessment what second option leads his team in pts, reb, assist and drops 46 and 51 on two mvps in playoffs and swept kd and kyrie in Brooklyn 😂😂😂
Media causes all this confusion. If you watch his games you won’t be confused
Well said.
This right here 👆
Congratulations to Boston for the 2023/2024 title but more so congratulations to Jaylen Brown who was subbed from ALL NBA but won Eastern Conference MVP and Finals MVP.
All I know is that I never want to hear anything about Tatum if he doesn’t win FMVP this time around
Damn Boston lookin nice
The tatum hate is just straight bullying atp. Will admit all yalls crying is pretty satisfying ☘️🏆😭
Sit on the bench with Hali! PHX☀️🔥>
"sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe 💩"
I feel Jayson Tatum is very underrated and he don't have no weakness to his game at all. I am 100% JT will get his first championship this season. When he get his first ring, the media will view him as the best player in the league.
If you’re 100% sure you should bet all your money on it
Unless he has a monstrous series and wins it almost singlehandedly, I don't think the media will see him as the best player tbh
Feels like Tatum wants it given to him, meanwhile Luka goes out there and takes it
This makes no sense.
“Who’s the best player in the league right now?”
“Uhhhhhhhhh…. Myself”
😂
Right. Like he ain’t even believe that 💩 😂
I've been coming around on Jayson Tatum. after looking into how durable he's been and how much he plays it's given me a new appreciation of him as his iron man status is a unique trait he has that gets overlooked
Jayson Tatum is arguably the most disrespected player in the leauge right now.
I feel like he’s properly rated. Has always had good teams. Is top 6-10 in the league.
@@xoirvinnjt top 5 man
@@susboy4007probably 5
Man just isn’t consistent enough. Gets a pass because Celtics are so deep
Rudy but he deserves it
Tatum is the Tobias Harris of star players
Luka is going to have another son
As a mavs fan I’m super excited for the finals either way it’ll be great
16 points in game 1. That's why. He is not that guy
This year is different. The year of Titanium babyy less goo
Tatum greatest strenght is not being egocentric maniac like others stars of nba.
Which player would you take:
1. Player which has queit life generally.
2. Player which travels with airplane every day and yet thinks that earth is flat!!
Jokic had one good playoff run outside the bubble and now everybody thinks nobody can be better than him 🤣
I like Jokic but he literally only beat playin teams and ppl thought it was the next dynasty 😂
Modern Paul Pierce / TMac.
Best Small Forward in the league currently.
hOW come nobody talking about JB when he the one who won WCF MVP
This is the testament to how important the eye rest is instead of paying so much attention to the stats and accolades.
He's just Paul George but younger.
They are victims of their early success and of their inconsistencies best example last series against the Heat
Polls for players are a joke. Terminally online fans literally hate the Celtics so Tatum will always be slandered just like Paul Pierce was
Maybe jt has more playoff games, but luka already won it all overseas when he was a kid, he is a born winner.
Tatum dont got tht dawg in em
Tatum is similar to Kawhi in his short stint in San Antonio. Both were drafted to teams that were contending. Both played Lebron in the playoffs early and held their own (made a name for themselves). Once they started to lead their franchise, media saw "Face of the league," but neither guy put up "Face of the league" numbers even though they put up good/borderline great numbers. We all know what happened to Kawhi after and he for the most part cemented his legacy in Toronto (even though he has failed since then). Tatum has the opportunity to cement his legacy going forward.
