Wait, Huber and Bosman team up for Trivia Tower? Holy shit, I immediately thought of the good old EZA Betting days. I hope they start screaming at each other LOL.
I know he’s not a cohort now…but I’m going to confidently say I can’t wait for him to be a cohort in the future cause this is what I dreamed of as soon as Huber tweeted about looking for more work!
Please make Huber a regular guest on the Minnmax show, I will become a Patron just for that!!! Please Ben. With that being said though, Huber REALLY needs to improve his audio set up.
Haha yeah that made me pause, too. I guess it's a familiarity thing, it feels weird to refer to someone by their last name when you don't know them super well
FYI In backstage pass, they asked him what he prefers. He was like I’m cool with Michael or Mike or Huber, so he kind of left it up to each person to decide lol
I think this might finally be the time when the Yakuza series is recognized as having some of the best writing in the Industry, it takes a lot of effort to make a game both funny and emotional and swinging between those two effortlessly countless times.
HUBER! *HYPE!!* COHORT!!! The world, the _world,_ would be pure perfection with Huber around as a Cohort on MinnMax. Yes, this is how we hype stuff--and the hype is real--Ben and Huber are my absolute top Games Media people. Miss Suriel, love Kyle and Jeffm, and I miss Ben Moore above all--but I digress: *HUBER HYPE* :D
Jacob saying "Here is the arcade mode of a game where when you shoot someone in the stomach they scream like they're actually dying" is an incredible line
I don’t understand the criticism personally. Because the game has a serious subject matter, they can’t take systems in the game and make a fun clearly marked, very arcadey side mode? What is this, the 1990s?
@@Nathan-oo2ikThey can, but it's not just the subject matter, it's that the gameplay, visuals, sound design, and narrative of TLOU2 are all intertwined. You change the tone and narrative but not any of the other parts and it feels jarring. On the other hand, something like RE4 Mercenaries works really well because the animations from the base game all felt a bit goofy anyways.
@@Nathan-oo2ik What the other person said. Also, its not just that the core game is serious. Its that the core game is nearly photorealistically violent and filled with nasty feelings, and the combat is designed to make you feel that way. The Last of Us 2 isnt just some serious game, it is trying to be one of the most serious games ever made. Would you want them to make a Hellblade spinoff mode where its you need to press the buttons on the controller to the rhythm of the psychotic voices in her head singing? Like cmon lol, thats essentially what we're dealing with here
@@PantsaBear I feel like the Hellblade comparison doesn't work because what you're describing is not part of the original game and Hellblade doesn't have good gameplay. It's fine if people don't want to play more of the Last of Us 2 in a roguelike context, but like Huber said, you could already replay the encounters in a sort of arcade-y version of the original without the context of the story with modifiers/cheats even. On one hand I do get it, but on the other it's really not hard to dissociate the gameplay/combat from the story. I think it's also why GoW had a lot of story with their roguelike mode and Last of Us has none.
I feel like this is a 3 month trial period to make sure he’s a good fit. EZA is going down the drain fast.. Brad left and went to LSM. Huber will need a new job eventually, hopefully he can be a mainstay at MinnMax in the future.
I definitely agree with Huber about The Last of Us 2 looking and playing better than it ever did, granted I'm playing with uncapped frame rate on which seems to consistently sit around 100 fps.
I think that's the thing. Depending on your settings, there might be an upgrade or no change at all. Jacob probably was playing on the performance mode that changes the least.
For the TLOU II commentary, you can watch all of it without gameplay. There's a cutscene selector in the menu now, just watch it all through there, it'll automatically move to the next cutscene if you turn on commentaries.
In response to Kelsey, she's right to be a little confused at people saying this is what people want out of Pokemon since its so different than the Pokemon games. The thing is, people have been asking for drastically different Pokemon games for years that abandon the same exact formula of the majority of the game being the trainer and pokemon themselves having very little interactivity besides "go battle for me" and "stay still for me to catch you" . Despite Palworld being a survival/adventure exploration game inherently, its incredibly dynamic to be in this world where Pals can be fought alongside you rather than in proxy of you. Not only that, they can be made to do crucially meaningful things to the gameplay by assembling resources and sustaining other pals on their own, while still keeping the identity of their "type" to be so previelnt (fire pals cook and forge iron, for example). Pokemon's idea of "living with pokemon" is just incredibly shallow by comparison for most of the game. Theres a reason people's favorite part of a lot of the games is which Pokemon can be ridden as a means of travel, and GameFreak somehow has made hardly any advances there in years The Pokemon shallowness is also made 1000x worse with the braindead dialogue in the mainline Pokemon games, especially recent ones. Theres ways to make things fun for kids and not have nearly everything story related feel so soulless/boring. Palworld, by contrast, just takes away nearly all that friction, using its environment and gameplay loop to generate your feelings towards this world instead. The fact that its Early Access which leaves it to have more potential for growth, as well as it being fullly co-op multiplayer, play a huge role in the immersion and excitiement as well.
Something about Kelsey's exasperated "that's not copy that's cut!" was the biggest laugh in this episode for me. Oh and Kelsey talking about how it's weird if you're playing Infinite Wealth while the dub reminded me of watching Persona 4. When they're taking English classes there's a funny line where someone says something like "English sure is hard. Because we're speaking Japanese. Because we're in Japan." Maybe not as meta as I'm making it but it's one of those funny dub moments where you're like "oh right"
Dang Huber feels like a nice breath of fresh air and voice of reason; love seeing more of him (honestly I know nothing about him besides his last hosting of trivia tower)
It was interesting to hear Jacob say that he expects Like a Dragon to end up in the "5 to 10" range for him at the end of the year. The only game I can think of that would usurp it for me is Dragon's Dogma 2. What are these 4-9 amazing games Jacob is looking forward to? Great discussion on the game, thank you folks for the work you put in every week!
One thing folks aren't mentioning about Palworld is how much it reminds me of the old Monster Rancher games a bit. I just want to literally raise monsters on a ranch/ base. How has nobody cornered the harvest moon pokemon cross over fans?
I haven't watched Minnmax in quite a while but I genuinely love that you guys all play the game being reviewed. The game evolves from a Survival game into a Pokemon game, and then shortly after into a Monster Hunter game WITH YOUR FRIENDS. Does it have longevity? That doesn't matter really. I think this games getting unfair critiques/goals set on it just because it's a "bootleg Pokemon game" when it really isn't. It's far better than any Pokemon game in the past decade but it's not really comparable even then.
Yeah Jacob was completely dismissive of it and hadn't even played the game. It's fine if he has no interest in it, but would be nice if he at least tried it before completely writing it off.
