I cooked this Sept 19,2019. I forgot to buy palm sugar so subbed brown sugar. My asian grocery didnt offer soybean paste so I purchased miso which is fermented soybeans and salt. I didn't get the same color as shown but the taste was pretty good. Somewhat of a unique sauce that I enjoyed (glad I got to use my tararind paste that's been hiding in my refrigerator for months.

I have been cooking Japanese (my mum's side is Japanese) and Korean for awhile now (big Maangchi fan) but hadn't yet tackled Thai (tho I love Thai food). Your channel has given me the confidence and inspiration to get cooking in my own kitchen. I'm also gonna get your sauces here locally as I think I saw them at the market (US). Well I made it. Pretty sure I used way too much tamarin paste or miso. The sauce turned out creamy-ish??? and the whole thing turned out to be a creamy mess. I think I might need to know the temperatures to cook at as well. Clearly I need another go at this lmao. I doubled everything because I was cooking for 5. So I think maybe next time I wont double the tamarin and miso.

Finally!!!!! I have been trying to find the pad Thai that we fell in love with at our favorite restaurant that had closed. Had no idea it was Korat. Every pad Thai was flavorless compared to what we liked- including Marion’s meal kit (it was fine, just not what we have been looking for). This is as close has we have ever come. Omg was it tasty. Left off the chili’s, used miso and added ground peanuts. I am soooooo happy now. Now the quest for Tom yum gha continues.

Beautiful aesthetic, would’ve appreciated a few measurements but I’ll make it work! I have tamarind paste but any recommendation for a substitution on the soybean paste? Maybe I could add a little extra tamarind paste?

    • @Leo29568
      @Leo29568 5 лет назад +2

The soybean paste is supposed to be salty. So adding more tamarind will make it more sour. Soybean paste should be available in most Asian shops or even in supermarkets. The only substitute that could give a salty taste would be soy sauce.

I'm confused how much palm sugar to add. Your recipe says 1/4 cuo palm sugar. Do you mean 1/4 cup or 1/4 of a circle of palm sugar?
For feedback it would be helpful if you listed ml or g also for measurements. It would also be helpful if you actually said the measurements in your videos too, that would alleviate any typos on measurements :).

Made this last night! Was unable to find the palm sugar- tried substituting brown for palm as others have suggested and had the issue that it burned quicly. Switched to white and worked much better. The sugar did seize up and re-crystallized when I added shallots/garlic and then kept it on heat and it melted again. Someone had mentioned it was too sour, I actually found myself adding an additional tbsp of tamarind. Used chili flake- started with 1/2 tsp but ended up adding the full tsp as per the recipe.I am not a big spicy person but this was just spicy enough for me. Overall found it very reminescent of pad thai- and in the future may cut a little more sugar along with making more sauce.

I've been trying new dishes lately because I'm tired of the same ol' same.. Made this yesterday, doubled the portion... This was a FANTASTIC meal!! It was fun exploring the international market by my house, as a couple of the ingredients I've never heard of. Kids really enjoyed it too. Thanks!

I just made and found it very easy to follow. I opted for the thicker pho noodles and my only complaint is there is absolutely nowhere near enough sauce! If you're thinking of making this and you love your noodles to pack a punch, double the sauce!

-Used maple syrup instead of sugar and palm sugar
-used miso instead of tao jio
-no tamarind used lemon juice and oyster sauce
-added ginger, garlic and chilli while stir frying like u do in most of ur videos
-added shredded cabbage instead of bean sprouts
    -used chicken
-added some veggies I had in my fridge (peppers, mushroom, onions)
-didn’t cook the eggs enough before adding through so it ended up more dissipated than scrambled but
    WAS SOOO GOOD THANK U

Looks delicious but not very healthy - way too much sugar in it?

Hi this looks good but I am allergic to soy. If I omit it, what can I substitute?
