If the saga continues, we might see Shenmue 4 as an arc that builds Ryo as a character, especially fixing his overfixation to revenge. Not saying it will completely removes his thirst of revenge, but at least he would be able to control it, and changes it into his own strength instead of going blinded by rage
He killed his father and nearly killed Ryo. Gonna take more than a few months of detective work and learning from masters to land a blow against him. If he couldn't touch Xiuying, how could he defeat Lan Di?

I love the fact that Ryo has a tiger and Lan Di has a dragon, really symbolises the eternal rivalry the tiger and dragon have. They represent yin and yang respectively I believe.
Ive seen 80s steven seagal movies with closer fights than this. Yu Suzuki got one miracle shot to make this game and he let his ego prevent him from "rushing" the story.
you gotta respect that. I for one, prefer that the original story written by Yu Suzuki is not rushed or changed for the worst, but he could have made the game at least one chapter longer

What a let down. Ryo's going to need to travel to the Hayabusa Ninja Village and train with Ryu Hayabusa to beat Lan Di at this point. If anyone can help him unlock his powers and learn about his ancient relics, it's them.
If ryo does lay hit it will ruin the story build... Lan di was build from the 2 games that he is very very strong not even ryo's dad can't land hit on him... So by this stander how ryu will manage to hit ryu? He still not strong enough...
It was about as perfectly done as it could possibly be with the new mechanics, which is a shame the old fighting system is brilliant and 3 is a huige button mashing let down, but still they did nail this scene and Lan Dai should still be light years ahead of Ryo. As far as the story goes it akes a lot of sense for Ryo get get bodied here, sure he has improved a lot over the months since his father was killed but not enough to catch up. Think about it, half the time has been spent investigating and looking for clues and other than training on his own the only really good times he has been able to get instruction have been few and far between. While it is sad we will probably never get to see the story reach it's final conclusion and the two fight as equals it's ok I have a decent imagination.

It was light years ahead of shenmue 1 in pacing and just going for it! But then shenmue 3. Added nothing. NOTHING. Probably the last chance at a finality for fans. Ryos defeated powerful enemies especially in shenmue 2. But set up to not be able to land a punch on Lan di? Come on. Then we get that garbage anime series. It's between shenmue 3 and lord's of shadow 2 for most disappointment entertainment media ever.
Shenmue 3 had a very odd development history. After Shenmue 2, Yu Suzuki had no idea if he would ever get another chance to develop a Shenmue game again, so he decided to cut several major story arcs and move right into Guilin in order to bring us to a partial conclusion if that was the case. In order to get here though, Yu Suzuki had to cut the city of Fujian, where we would (probably) learn more about the phoenix mirror, and then Shanghai-Suzou, both of which would be a major training arc for Ryo where he would've probably learned from many masters. After this Ryo would've ended up in Guilin and met Shenhua, but again, Shenmue 2 changed this. In a kickstarter video, Suzuki mentions Fujian, probably talking about the original plan most likely, but as we know now this was scrapped a second time due to budget constraints most likely. Shanghai would turn into Niaowu as we know it, a place that is not mentioned in the original outline of Suzuki's story. Now, it seems Ryo is now heading toward Xi'an, which is nearest to the Great Wall of China, and at some point in Shenmue 4, Shanghai, but just a little later than anticipated. This will be the real training arc for Ryo. Shenmue 3 is a game destroyed by mostly the negligence of Yu Suzuki. He should've toned down his scope but he is extremely out of touch with gaming. But hey, hopefully now you know Shenmue 3 is just a filler training arc for Ryo to get the story back on track, but it was handled extremely poorly by trying to cram one too many plot points and characters into it and then having it crash to an ending and vague cliffhanger. I'm hoping Suzuki has learned from his mistakes with this game.
Really disappointing final boss. There should've been a real boss you can defeat, this didn't need to be more than a cutscene since you can't do anything anyways.

But hey, hopefully now you know Shenmue 3 is just a filler training arc for Ryo to get the story back on track, but it was handled extremely poorly by trying to cram one too many plot points and characters into it and then having it crash to an ending and vague cliffhanger.
I'm hoping Suzuki has learned from his mistakes with this game.
The fighting in this game looks so lame compared to 1 and 2.
Really disappointing final boss. There should've been a real boss you can defeat, this didn't need to be more than a cutscene since you can't do anything anyways.
Still no match to landi need more experience to ryo
