"The story goes on" Been playing this series since Dreamcast came out, it's never gonna end after this build up. You got me again, Shenmue. But this time I'm done.
I been playing since dream cast too. I never played part 3 so I came here to see the ending. He a bitch all these years and he still hasn’t avenged his father death.
@slank_slim_ that's what I was thinking too. All that shit, all that training and buildup and character development for "the story continues". Fuck that, they should have included a quarter with the game so you can play yourself.
I bet Lan Di ends up not being the real antagonist, but just a guy who *thought* he avenged his fathers death just like Ryo is trying to do. While another bad guy is really pulling the strings.
I have kinda a weird theory. Ryo's father, whether it was by accident, killed Lan Di's twin brother. Lan Di finally confronts him, and avenges his brother's death. Ryo's fathers last words were, "keep friends, those you love, close to you." Which probably means he has made many enemies etc. That's just my theory anyways.
No. Just no. I had this argument years ago with a friend. I told him there was no way he would be ready to face Lan Di anytime soon. Sure in the first game you be up a few thugs here and there the first actual opponent to test you being Gui Zhang then Chai (twice). In the second game the enemies were more formidable than harbor thugs. Then Xiuying the woman that you couldn't even touch told warned you that if you couldn't beat her the he stood no chance against Lan Di. You beat up some more thugs then that giant Dou Niu dude at the end of 2 then you fight more chumps, train and learn new moves along the way and you expect him to be near Lan Di's level in just a few months?
I don't think He's even going to go through with his revenge in the end. They way it looks so far I think the Chi you men Murdered Lan Di's father and blamed Ryo's father. I wouldn't be surprised if Lan di ended up being a redeemable character
Please think about it. between the beginning of Shenmue 1 and the end of Shenmue 3 are only about 5 months.. there is no way ryo could have trained enough to beat a god tier martial artist like lan di. Not even his father, who trained all his life, could do shit against lan di. Look how ryo got his ass kicked by masters over and over during his journey.
@@huwisel that's what I'm thinking. Hes not even the villain of the story. He is trying to do the right thing and ryo is just some dude getting in the way. But the third game now after video game writing has been league's above this tale given to us? It's just not enough. The final encounter wasnt even playable really to flex your growth as a martial artist, the player.
I'd be a little upset if I waited 30 years for the finale of a revenge plot, just to find out the main antagonist has the attention span of a goldfish and only wanted another sequel.
In fairness, the ending to Shenmue 2 was underwhelming imho. I've always considered Shenmue games to be about the journey over the destination. That said, I found the ending satisfying but I thought the fortified castle area seemed a little rushed. Loved the fact that you could pick herbs in the run up to a boss battle though. Really bizarre lol
@@psp785 I agree the do niu fight was far better. I was referring to the cave scene which although isn't a boss fight, is the actual last part of the game. That was the very last part of Shenmue for almost two decades and it did leave me underwhelmed. rooftop battle was epic though as you mentioned.
My gut feeling is that most of the story would have developed in Baisha, but since it was cut, we were deprived of a needed third act. My gut feeling is that Baisha would see Ryo/Ren choosing to side with Niao Sun/Red Snakes or Lan Di/Blue Spiders to retrieve one of the mirrors
18 years in the making and all you get is a few seconds of dodgy collision-detection sparring. Lan Di had potential to be one of the all-time great antagonists...but him only appearing in about 3 scenes over the entire lengthy trilogy put paid to that.
Only real ones can appreciate this. The way Ryo defeats his enemies with moves that he learned in 1 & 2 (Double Blow & Iron Palm). I don't like how he's fighting nobodies, but I like how he's wreaking Lan Di's boys in front of him. Making sure Lan Di never forgets the name, Ryo Hazuki.
Watching this, I think what should have happened was they should have Ryo land one good blow that visibly injures Lan Di and even if he got away again, let's him know that he's not as invincible as he seems and lets Ryo know that even Lan Di has a weakness and can be hurt
Darrian Mitchell nah right from the start he was meant to be larger than life. He killed Ryo’s dad without any hassle what so ever and dropped Ryo with a single punch back then. Making him become strong enough to land a blow in such a short time wouldn’t make sense.
@@BlackyVue , if majima, kiryu and taiga saejima combine force , Lan Di would KO I think.... in this game alone kind of ridiculous for a villain, he is too OP even for "plot armor"

@@MikedieONE does that make it any more satisfying after 20 years? He should have been able to get a single hit in iron man thanos style but to also state that he is indeed a threat to lan di. At this point we are just back at square one again with the same setup from EVERY shenmue game.
@MikedieONE Exactly our time it’s been about a 20 year wait for the game, but in Ryo’s world it’s only been about 5 months. And as Lishao Tao/Xiuying Hong told Ryo on Shenmue 2 that if he couldn’t beat her, then he definitely won’t have a chance at defeating Lan Di. This fight just showed how inexperienced Ryo was compared to Lan Di.
Well......I just finished the game. I'm thankful for the hard work Suzuki and his team accomplished with limited funds. The brought back so many great memories and nostalgic feelings of the previous titles. I do wish the final henchmen weren't useless. They were so weak it makes Lan Di look incapable of making hiring decisions. The ending was extremely anti climactic. I do feel robbed of an awesome ending experience because I trained Ryo until he achieved max stats and master status with most of the game's skill books. I was expecting a mega fight and QTE experience with the final 3 henchmen and Lan Di. *Sigh* Oh well. I still appreciate the game because this experience is special all around. The gamers made this happen. There is a sentimental heart felt feeling for Shenmue 3 because all of us contributed to its existence.
while really enjoying everything there was in shenmue 3, I can't be helped to feel a little disappointed the final act ended so quickly. Shenmue 2 and the entire kowlon section was such a great part of the the series where the story flung along myriads of set pieces. when I got to the castle I was still expecting the game to actually go on for a long while since nothing really happens at all in nia wu, like seriously no plot development whatsoever, I didn't expect a conclusion, but at least they could've done more with lan di and sun and had at least some conversations/interactions jother than 3 lines of dialogue each, apparently there should be either 1 or 2 more games to cover the rest of the chapters, if shenmue 4 ever comes out, this game can a bit more easily be savoured for what it is I suppose
The answer to this is clear. Budget. I seem to remember in the kickstarter info that you would get to infiltrate castles/strongholds with 4 bosses? . Chai, redhead Lady and so on. Its just too big for such a small team and budget. In my opinion they did a great job with what they could work with.

The fact that there is some weird consensus that Ryo should have been able to beat lan di in shenmue 3 is beyond comprehension. This is 5 months after lan di one handed choked him in iwaos dojo and 2 months after not being able to lay a finger on master tao.
I guess people complaining are the "new" shenmue players that are not used to the pace of the story and also not sure of how much time has passed in correlation to the first game.
My thoughts exactly, when Shenmue 3 was announced a few years back. I said if Ryo fought Lan Di, then there would be absolutely no way Ryo would win. Some people think that since it’s been 19 years since Shenmue 2 came out, that 19 years have passed in the game. Nope only 19 years passed in real time, but in the world of Shenmue only about 5 months have gone by since Lan Di killed Iwao. So hardcore fans understood, and did not expect Ryo to beat Lan Di in Shenmue 3.
Nothing weird it was a poorly written ending for the player to engage in. 3 games that lead up this lousy sparring session? How is it weird for players to ask for something meaningful and thought out. The ending of the game was crap, everyone knows it but you.
If needed, why not? Kickstarter is just a different way of buying a product, and if brings back a franchise that was dead and buried, seems like a fair deal to me.
@@UPVideos365Dayslol, i can agree that waiting for 2 or 3 more games to see the story completed is very unlikely to happen. Let's hope that Suzuki decides to end it in shenmue 4 by 2025.

So far it seems to be going Star Wars Prequels way, isn't it? An author who gained his reputation in different and not really clear circumstance, return after long time to craft another installment and everyone is terrified of him. Lack of healthy "Writer vs Coder vs Seller" rivalry doesn't cut boring pieces and you get rather a religion about source material than it's progression.
The excitement I had when I got to this part of the game, after the hours and hours of nonsense… to finally lay hands on Lan Di would have been fair trade. The credits were just salt to the wound.
Given the amount of detail given to the guys hanging out with Lan Di, I wonder who they actually are. The Sephiroth guy in black in particular. I wonder if he represents the Black Tortoise of the Chiyoumen leaders?
I just come to say that I have not waited so many years, I just played Shenmue I, II and III all straight one after th eother and loved it! I look forward for what is next!
Yea this game didn't deserve the hate, it was a solid addition to the Shenmue series and I'm really exited what's in stock for Shenmue 4. Shenmue 3 helped the franchise get back on its feet and I can only hope that Shenmue 4 packs some of the biggest punches the series is yet to see👊
You know what I liked the ending, it finally shows us how strong Lan Di really is and that moment you break down those doors and the cameras pan on him gave me chills, as a fan of the series this is a game we needed in order for the next game to be even better
I imagine that Lan Di right now is on his own, since Niao Sun basically cut him off from the Chiyoumen and ran with the Phoenix mirror. Though, it's cristal clear that he doesn't need goons to protect him.
maybe He and Ryo will eventually join force to stop Chi you men at Shenmue 4 (somehow Landi will discover the truth about their fathers) Niao and the other 2 Big Boss (Lishaotao's bigbro) will confront them into a big battle and will defeat them sooner or later. Landi will sacrifice himself so Ryo and others can escape from the Biggest threat, might be the one behind the organization and the one who teach landi about martial arts. proceeds to Shenmue 5 **just a wishful thinking**
Welp, once again we're left with another damn cliffhanger until Yu Suzuki makes SHENMUE 4! At least we finally actually had a shot at fighting Lan Di after all this time but couldn't land a finger on him, just like we couldn't with Xiuying Hong in Shenmue 2 before. Also my theory still stands that Longsun Zhao aka Lan Di is really Ziming Hong (Xiuying's brother) under Zhao's identity. Also we finally saw Shenhua's stepfather and I've been wanting to see him since Shenmue 2. Furthermore what happened to Lan Di's original deep evil sounding voice? That's another thing I wonder. Anyway hopefully we won't have to wait another 20 years for Suzuki to make the next chapter.
What really bothers me is the fact that the story didnt even progess in this game. You always get to know the same shit all over again, and theres like nothing new to the story. And its also shit that we have to wait probably another ten years for the 4th game. That we couldnt hurt lan di doesnt even bother me that much. It just showes how strong he really is. And its shit that they literally changed his voice actor in the english dub, Im fucking happy that I play the game in japanese.
@@al8951 we already knew from the 2nd game that Lan Di is the son of Zhao Sun Ming, and that he killed Iwao to avenge the death of his own father....We needed to know how Zhao Sun Ming died and who killed him and we never found that out, even the the people in Bailu Village that remembered Iwao and Zhao didn't know the specifics on what actually happened
The amount of help Ren gave in this reminded me of Henry in No More Heroes 2...guess I should be glad LAN Di didn’t roid out or become a parade float. In all seriousness, I didn’t exactly mind this ending, but I feel it could have used a sort of an “epilogue” to really flesh things out a bit, like in 2 where after most of the action is over you’re just walking to Shenhua’s place and getting a revelation or two. As it is, this just feels a bit rushed in comparison.
...seriously...? All that buildup, literally for Ren to toss the Phoenix Mirror out of the window while Lan Di lets Ryo go and stares out the window like a dog tracking a fucking Frisbee. This...is incredibly lame. Ryo should have, at the very least, gotten 1 hit in, to at least show, in terms of martial arts skill how much he's come along. I'm sorry but weren't the Chiyoumen built up to be, you know, criminals that don't play fair and were an actual threat? What threatening individuals....sitting there fighting our heroes one at a time... I really miss the grittiness of the originals. Oh well, amazing this even got made and Cory Marshall reprised his role. Oh and the actor that plays Lan Di... you sir don't hold the stilted yet menacing jock of the original Lan Di voice actor... Shame.

I can get it was too soon to defeat Lan Di, but there were so many ways to make the fight more involving and satisfying. Take the final fight vs Anubis in Zone of the Enders for example: you can't beat Anubis, but you still have to survive against its onslaught for a few minutes, and even manage to land a few hits if you're skilled enough. It's like they didnt even try here.
There are legit so many idiots commenting, before the kickstarter was even announced us Shenmue fans have been talking about up to Shenmue 5 because we understand its a extremely long story. We supported it knowing full well it was not the end. So don't try and lump us into the category of we were robbed because you are jealous of a game its ridiculous.
Against Iwao Lan Di at least seemed like he needed to be careful with his constant dodging into striking stances. Here Lan Di is like “this is just my left hand, you can’t do a thing”.
No shit, this was never meant to be the definitive finale. Any hardened Shenmue fan would know that. The series has one hell of an overarching story to get through, so buckle the fuck up.
Shenmue 3 was about Ryo's growth as a martial artist to prep him to take on Lan Di and the Chi You Men. The story overall didn't move too much but Ryo trained alot. Ready for Shenmue 4.

If that happened, Shenmue would have ended right then and there. It's already been stated many times that Shenmue 3 was not gonna be the end of the series, I have literally no idea why people thought this. They would know that if they saw how Yu Suzuki envisioned Shenmue's overarching story.

@@feartheoldblood 😂😂💯💯
I bet Lan Di ends up not being the real antagonist, but just a guy who *thought* he avenged his fathers death just like Ryo is trying to do. While another bad guy is really pulling the strings.
That would of been better than this ending
Yes, and this is known since Shenmue 2 actually. The story hasn't brought anything new since.
@@taralen1101 Not really a theory. It's been almost confirmed in Shenmue 2.

Ryo went backwards in development since Shenmue 2. He stood no chance because the creator wanted to stretch on a story that should've ended here.

I'm just here to see if anyone else is extremely let down by that rushed ending that fell completely flat. Waited 18 years for this....
We should've been able to Hit lan di after all that Training , bruh
No.
Lan di will probably get killed by someone even greater and you'll go after them once you buy all the way into the mysticism of the mirror quest.

This game was fun but the ending was underwhelming. Shoulda made the last three fighters a 1x1 free battle instead of QTE. And then the lan di fight.
@@RE7Hazuki Shenmue 2 ending was much better the roof top battle was epic
@@psp785 I agree the do niu fight was far better. I was referring to the cave scene which although isn't a boss fight, is the actual last part of the game. God I'm dissapointed.
We ain't beating Lan Di until the final game. Which will probably be Shenmue 5. If we even get there.
The story goes on, wow what a bizarre way to end it after so long
Plot Twist: Lan Di actually died in the fire and Ryo doesn't know so he will be chasing a dead man forever.
that's uh.......one way to book end the game
Red flag here:”Final boss and ending”... video is only 10 min long
The actual fight is 31 seconds XD !
Well, that was underwhelming.
Watching this, I think what should have happened was they should have Ryo land one good blow that visibly injures Lan Di and even if he got away again, let's him know that he's not as invincible as he seems and lets Ryo know that even Lan Di has a weakness and can be hurt
Darrian Mitchell well he probably bruised Lan Di’s left arm a little.
Darrian Mitchell nah right from the start he was meant to be larger than life. He killed Ryo’s dad without any hassle what so ever and dropped Ryo with a single punch back then. Making him become strong enough to land a blow in such a short time wouldn’t make sense.
After seeing the "Story goes on..." text pop up, all i'm thinking is: "Wow....the fucking ego of Yu Suzuki..."

Lol that would be interesting due to the fact Ryo is either 18 or 19 and Lan di is only 31.
while really enjoying everything there was in shenmue 3, I can't be helped to feel a little disappointed the final act ended so quickly.

Kowloon was horrible, all that elevator nonsensense going up and down and running every floor back and forth
Thank you!! Been saying this! 💯

They should’ve kept the original voice for lan di it sounds more darker and fits his character more
...seriously...? All that buildup, literally for Ren to toss the Phoenix Mirror out of the window while Lan Di lets Ryo go and stares out the window like a dog tracking a fucking Frisbee.
