Gilbert Ray campground is located near Tucson Arizona. It's in close proximity to the city and offers 30 amp hookups, trash, and large RV friendly sites. RVing fulltime can often come with many expenses. State parks are great if you are looking to save money. This is a very old one!
I visited this place back in Sept 2020. When I move here, it would be nice to spend a couple nights with a tent to enjoy solitude and quiet here.
It's a very nice campground, the stars are amazing as well.
This campground was named after my great grandfather. This was a nice review of it thank you.

I absolutely love your videos! I can imagine hanging out with your whole group and having a blast! Melissa, I completely agree with the recycling thing because my brother never recycles. Every time I’m at his house I root through his trash (yes, yes I do that), take all the recycling out, bring it home with me and put it in my bins. It’s one of the easiest things one can do to help this planet. It’s not hard ffs!!! Another great video, thank you!!
Thanks for watching Lori. We try to have a good time, the recycling is tough but we do our best considering we are in the road.
A tip for anyone who plans on cycling, or hiking, in the desert Southwest; take a pair of needle nose plyers with you so you can pull cactus thorns out of yourself, or your friends. If you really want to be prepared, take a pair of side cutter plyers too. You can hold the cactus lobe with the needle nose while snipping off the thorns that are stuck in you. After the lobe is tossed aside, you can pull the individual thorns out with the needle nose. If you only have the needle nose, you can get re-stuck by thorns from the same lobe.
You won't get stuck if you're careful, but folks who are not from the area are more likely to bump into a cactus simply because they don't have the mindset that they need to watch out for them. People from other places understand that wild animals may bite them, but they usually don't worry about plants. Folks from places with lots of poison ivy, or poison oak, will understand though.

We stayed there a couple years ago and loved it. The sunsets and sunrises were spectacular! You missed Old Tucson which is pretty fun. The biggest issue we had was having to keep out dog close as she kept getting those cactus burs stuck in her paws....and then I got them stuck in my fingers helping her!

Sadly they just closed the iconic Tucson Studios 4-5 months ago.... they couldn’t survive the closures.

You should double check, they ARE allowed in the campground. Double check the trails.
This gives us another option for camping in the Tucson area - thanks for showing off our backyard! Bummer there's no water at the sites, definitely something to keep in mind when booking. The nice thing, if you go to Maricopa (PHX), their parks have water at the sites, which can make it easier! Good thing to know about the online booking system - definitely doesn't sound like it's friendly to anyone, hopefully they improve it in the future! Also, the East Side Saguaro NP is better (biased) ❤ Aaron & Nicole
Yeah it's nice but simple. The water is all around the camp though. We filled with 2 of our hoses lol thanks for watching.
I live in that area I was hiking the other day behind the camp and found their poop pit. Wow did that stink? Did you smell anything while you were there? I would imagine if the wind was blowing that way you would because it was bad I never thought they’d be a poop pit. I thought they would put it in a tank and take it away but no they’re just pouring it in a big pit and letting it evaporate. Kind of weird.
I don't remember smelling anything lol hahah
Jumping Cholla. Probably developed in a secret military lab, and escaped its government developers to now torment hikers and bikers. BTW, the wife and I got married right at that stone house in your vid. Shockingly enough, it's called Stone House.

It hurts my soul too Melissa. This past summer on our big trip out west none of the campgrounds we stayed at had recycling we kept it separated hopping to find a place for the recycling but didn't 😩😓🤬

How are you finding campground reservations with the spike in COVID-19? We had our campground reservation, in Paso Robles, Ca, for late December, canceled. Now we’re kind of hesitant to plan and make future reservations anywhere.
Hey Tom, so this was in Az and about a month ago before the spike. We typically boondock so there is no need for reservations. As far as I'm aware all BLM camping is still open, even in CA. Thanks for watching.
Did you put down lights or open your hood for pack rat prevention? We are staying here next month and we see a lot of comments about pack rats eating insulation off of wires. I agree that the online reservation system was king of funky. Safe travels.

We were there for three nights. First two with hood up and lights under the truck. Third night forgot. Pack Rats chewed wires clean through. Ten hours of my own labour along with soldering iron and solder fixed it. I would soooo recommend lights and hood up at almost all wild RV parking!

I grew up in the desert and never had that issue. In laughed when I heard that but I read someone had that issue. That's crazy but yeah I guess it's something to look into and pay attention to for sure.

You messed up if you didn't go to the Desert Museum. That is the premium thing to see Southern Arizona by far. It is a world class zoo and botanical garden.
Furthermore, the Bio-Sphere is a joke, it produced little real science, and was built by a wacko cult. One of their members was an heir to a fortune, and he paid for most of the construction. The cult members did most of the preliminary design themselves with an emphasis on giving it a sci-fi look. They should have stuck to actual engineering principles which would have given them a chance at getting solid research from it. So whatever time you spent there, you should have spent at the Desert Museum.
Pima Air and Space Museum is a solid museum for planes. It has lots of planes on exhibit since it gets most of its pieces from the boneyard a couple of miles away.
There are lots of things to do in Tucson, too many to name, but if you ride bikes, check out the Loop bike path that runs 55 miles all around Tucson. It is a paved bike and pedestrian path.
Another good ride is up Mount Lemon. It's on paved road, but there is mountain bike trail that you can take to come back down some of it. Anyway, look that up.
You already found the bike paths in the Tucson Mountains, and there are many other trails in the region.

We boondock 99% of the time so this was a nice treat for us. We did almost everything in the area. Went north and did the cables at Picacho Peak! That video will be up tomorrow!
So let me get this straight, the highlight of your visit to the magnificent Sonoran Desert was Biosphere 2?? These two Californians are making this video very painful to watch.
