    I love traveling with GA. It's raining and 45 degrees here in PA. We just got the RV out of storage and I'm sitting here in the driveway making sure the heater works..hahaha..watching GA and daydreaming. Waiting for hubby to retire so we can put the house in winter storage and we can be gone all winter in the RV. Until then, I'll join you on your trips. Happy travels.

    Hi guys! I used to live in Tucson. I loved the desert ecosystem. Tucson is not as hot as Phoenix because first, it is not a basin and second Tucson's altitude is higher than Phoenix's. There is also a nice little mountain north of Tucson that infrequently gets snow in the winter. Thanks for reminding me of my old hometown.

    Another great video. And very nice to see TR who I've been following for the last 6 months or so. He seems to be rebuilding the inside of his coach right now. Thanks to both of you for not fixating on the current health situation. It seems like most video bloggers are virus virus virus one episode after another.
    I spent several years in Tucson, first and second grade. The roads were mainly dirt and below ground level and when it rained in the mountains the streets would flood, and I don't mean a few inches of water. People got swept away and they rigged lines across the crosswalks to hold onto as you crossed. We drove by my old home and it seems to be an industrial/commercial district now with 100% paved roads.
    I'm surprised you skipped the Desert Museum but was interested to see the other areas, another longer visit is on our schedule for Fall or Winter.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 года назад

      Thank you Bryan! We didn't skip the Desert Museum, it was unfortunately closed due to the current health situation, like many attractions are. We're going out of our way to avoid harping on that situation in our episodes, because a) we get enough of that in our daily lives anyway -- people want an escape, if only for a few minutes of video -- and b) to be quite honest, aside from things like the Desert Museum being closed, we're really not finding that it's affecting our travels much. Sure, in Arizona we're finding USFS campgrounds closed and we're occasionally having to wait in line outside a store to get in to get what we need, but for the most part it's life as usual with a few inconveniences.
      That's a fascinating story about life in Tucson when you were a child. I can't imagine city streets turning into torrents as a regular occurrence. They've obviously done a good job figuring out how to channel that runoff.
      It was great hearing from you, thank you!

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 года назад +2

      It was definitely tight, no doubt about it. But there really was a lot of character to the place. There are a lot of full-timers and snowbirds staying there, and while the park would have normally emptied out for the season by the time we visited, many were hunkering down in the current situation and waiting for travel restrictions to ease before leaving. We found the residents to be wholly welcoming and inviting. The owner has started bringing in food trucks every evening to help guests minimize their need to go to the grocery store, and help out local businesses at the same time. Whether at those food trucks in the evening, or at the RV park's dog park, we found the regulars to be chatty and friendly. It really made for an enjoyable stay, even for guests like us who would rather be boondocking.

      There was a road where we camped that was next to us and was marked as being closed. However, less than a few hundred yards on that road on the left side are two nice open areas off that road and probably a hundred yards apart from each other. You might want to check out Road 618 just East of I-17. It is where 179 ends at I-17. The National Park recommended that road. There are a lot of sites on either side of the road once it starts going South after Beaver Creek. Also, a short way up the road on the right side to Lawrence Crossing has a spot on the edge looking over a little Valley. We were going to head here if 525 was closed. My wife wasn’t crazy about the road to Lawrence Crossing.

    Marc,
    Very interesting episode. I very much enjoyed the explanation of the Suguero growth. Even though you missed the end of the skiing season, you didn't miss the dessert flowers.
    I'm going to guess that there was a forty to fifty degree temperature differential between the desert at around 75° and four thousand feet elevation in the mountains above at around 30°...
    Gord

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 года назад +1

      Your guess is pretty close, Gord. That was a chilly day down in the desert, where temps were in the upper 50s, whereas we logged a 25º temperature reading atop Mount Lemmon. And a flowering desert makes an excellent consolation prize.

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 4 года назад +1

      @@GrandAdventure Ok... the desert was allot cooler than it looked from video. When it gets down into the fifties you'll see me wear a wind breaker. You and your friend didn't have one on so my guess was of by quite a bit.
      I was high by at least fifteen degrees on the high side and high by about five degrees on the low side. Thus, there was only a twenty-five degree differential for an estimated 4,000 ft elevation change. Which makes more sense to me.
      Gord

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 года назад +1

      @@gorrdd oh, I've turned into a complete wuss about cold temps, especially after some unplanned weight loss. So yeah, I had a jacket on when it was in the upper 50s, especially with that wind. We had some weather activity during my visit to Tucson, so the temperatures fluctuated greatly day over day. The shots with TR were filmed on the warm side of that front.

    I wonder if we overlapped. I was at the Tucson LazyDays RV March 14 - 17th taking delivery on a trailer. I'm hanging out in the Quartzsite desert right now.
    Not sure if you are at Lost Dutchman yet but try to avoid loop 75-104, as it packed tighter than the rest of the loops.
    The first place I ever skied was Mt Lemmon. They do not get a lot of good snow days. That 180 inches of annual snow sounds optimistic. That first day was absolutely perfect but the nice warm day melted some of the snow and the next day was a slope of solid rough ice. I thought I would never make it down. It was three feet and fall all the way!
    Be snake aware with yourself and pooch, they are out and about already.
    You did another beautiful job on the video. I didn't know the airfield is now open to visitors. A friend and I were wondering around years ago and got asked to leave by a M16 carrying security guard. That was when the CIA had operations running out of there.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 года назад

      Yep, no more CIA ops now that Evergreen is belly-up. You can actually call ahead to request a tour, but with the whole coronavirus thing we didn't even try. We're sure that conditions at Mount Lemmon can be "variable", to put it charitably. Haven't encountered any snakes yet, thank goodness. We didn't overlap, it was early April by the time we got to Tucson, and since this was filmed we've been to Lost Dutchman, Tonopah, Prescott and we're now in an RV park in Camp Verde where we retreated to because of a bad weather forecast that doesn't seem to have come to fruition. On the plus side, Jarrod from All About RVs and Campendium, as well as Ed and Ann from a new channel Homie at Large, are both also here entirely by coincidence.

    Well, not going to get to do any video at Lost Dutchman SP. I was curious about the park after you mentioned it and the web site says
    Until further notice: Day use parking is limited - no walk-ins allowed. No photo permits, weddings, or group use. Only registered campers permitted in the campground; no visitors allowed in the campground area. Dump station and showers are CLOSED to anyone not camping at the park.
    Also noted
    Photo Permits are required to take photos at the park.
    Download the Commercial Filming/Photography Application
    Personal photo permits can be filled out at the park the same day.
    Sounds crazy to me that a STATE OWNED park would restrict the taking of photographs. Just sounds wrong to me.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  4 года назад

      That restriction is only for commercial photo shoots, weddings, etc., Charles, and requires $1M in commercial liability insurance coverage naming the park as an additional insured. It doesn't apply to tourists shooting their own stuff. National Parks do the same thing, but just stop to think of how many RUclips videos you've seen shot in Lost Dutchman, or in National Parks.

    • @sajohnson33
      @sajohnson33 4 года назад +1

      My wife and I have stayed at Lost Dutchman at least twice. Neither of us recall any "photo permits" being required (or any of the other restrictions for that matter). That seems very strange. The only time I've seen photo permits required is a) in *national* parks, when b) doing more than casual/typical photography (classes; lots of equipment; off-trail; using models, etc).
      All I can think is that Lost Dutchman has had some "issues" since we were there last, or this is somehow related to the coronavirus.

      "TR Bowlin". We've linked to TR's channel both in the video description, and right on the screen during our introduction in the video.

    I don't agree with the notion that the saguaro "establishes in shaded areas" as if the seed that originated the saguaro had a thinking brain. The seed of the saguaro lands wherever if pooped by birds. The reason there are a lot of plants around it is simple: Neither humans or animals want to be close to it and get pricked by the plant; so it's a symbiotic relationship between these plants. Take for example a barbed wire fence, there will be weeds thriving under it because of the same principle. Just saying.

    I love your work but you guys were sitting too close. Not a good example. Please try harder.
