I just can’t believe you guys got that elk to stay still long enough to make this video, true masters 🙌

I’ve shot only one elk with a bow. I was so excited, I missed my shot completely, and hit him right in the throat instead. I watched the arrow pass through, with a spray of blood. Bull went 40 yards and collapsed. Not sure if I will aim for the throat if the opportunity presents itself, but it is lethal.

Bought my first bow last year in July and killed a bull with it that September. 20 yard frontal shot. I only had the confidence in that shot because of videos like these explaining exactly where to aim.

Awesome stuff. That “yo” tip is money! Big Mahalos Joel and Dan 🤙🏽
Days before a hunt I always look at basic anatomy diagrams of animals I’ll be hunting for that trip. It’s worked so far. Eventually I’ll have enough hunts under my belt to not need the diagrams anymore. Time will tell hehe

To the key board warriors… if you desire to argue with this video you are arguing with proven science and fact…

I took a quick shot with a 7mm mag at a spike this past fall high, I guess in “no man’s land”, because he bled and let us on about a 1.5 mile tracking journey down and then uphill, and just like you said, the blood just stopped. Never recovered him. This video helps a lot for future hunts. Thanks!

The low brisket shot absolutely RUINS Midwest deer hunters. They shoot where they want to hit a deer from a tree stand. Great video guys!

It has been really windy the past few weeks in Idaho. I would really love to here from Joel on methods for shot execution and aiming in really windy situations. In my experience, the wind can make your pin “float” much larger which can lead to shots breaking farther off center than normal. Any tips would be awesome!!!
Sorry for hijacking the video, I just didn’t know where else to ask the question. I figured if anyone could get the answer from Joel, it would be Elkshape!

its three am and im heading to the honey hole this morning.
two days ago assisted my buddy to get his out, crossbow, and loud, spooked him, he crouched and it went just below the spine, through the tenderloin, cut some gut, but it must have hit a major artery because he ran less than 100yrd and died within an hour. would that make sense? heavy dark red blood trail like a heart hit.
pretty much no spoilage to boot!

Lots of great info here for people. Sadly the video is all washed out due to the sun and your on an angle to the target. Next time set up properly for this vide.

It’s because the sun is just to the right of the video and is washing it out.

How come no one talks about the shot through the neck. I have killed only one elk, and it was a shot through the neck. I watch the arrow pass thru with a spray of blood. He dropped with in 40 yards.

Ok why not trap them and move them to another place? Another reason I get pissed when DNR wants to put limits on hunting and raising license fees.
