Living full-time in my rolling tiny home has been the best decision of my life. Off-Grid living offers a peace and connection to life that you just can't explain. When i first started van life i build a stealth camper van with the mindset the you had to live a stealth van life and i soon discovered that you can just live the city van life and boondock in the countryside and as long as you are respectful of the backcountry and cities you live in. The world is more curious than hateful. Well......Welcome to my everyday van life adventures. My name is Chrome Valdez and i travel full-time with Cruz the bulldog. Just wondering why you don’t plug into shore power when your at the shop and charge up the batteries? I don’t know if you have the ability or not to do this .
I do but I haven’t been at the shop long enough to make a difference. I’ve plugged in every time I’ve been there. I would need to be plugged in for an entire day in order to top up and I am just not there that much in a day right now.
I was thinking the same thing. Just plug in and let them top off so you don’t damage the batteries and have to buy new batteries!!
@@VANCITYVANLIFE You might need to upgrade you`re charging unit! It should only take 3 or 4 Hrs at most to fully charge you`re batteries!
Let's see if them overhead lights at Walmart offer some charge.
@@VANCITYVANLIFE I've got a dedicated alternator on my rig that charges 2 120AH lithium batteries from 20% to 100% in about 2.5 hours of driving. Something to look into. Love your videos. I've learned a lot.
I am 73 years old and living in a Ford van. Age has nothing to do with adventure. I've camped in a lot of Walmart parking lots, campgrounds, and gravel pits in Canada, driving from Louisiana to Alaska and back.

When you see the design on a computer screen, the medium is light… When you print the design, the medium is ink… These two mediums follow different physical laws…. Red and green light mixed make a brilliant, beautiful yellow… Red and green pigment make a not so beautiful brown… what you see on the screen is usually very different than what you get with the printout including contrasts…. The "Van Life" t-shirt reminds me of a t-shirt from the '70s! Love it!! The only thing it needs is Cruze on it too :)
The problem may be as simple as the alternator belt tension and not the actual alternator. I remember you pointed out the squealing noise a couple of videos back. Of course driving fast thru the backwoods puddles will soak your belts as well. Even a 50 amp alternator can put out 600 watts at 12 volts, when the belt is tight and dry.
Looks like a vanner is settling in to having a fixed spot. We all need to have a place where our roots can attach. Even if it is just for once in awhile. Rock on Cruzzie’s Dad. Love your Homey, he is dope

If I ever do a new van build, i will likely start with an LVD , a low voltage disconnect , a battery bank protector that sits between your batteries and your load. There is a piece of mind around not losing value every time you let your batteries lapse, this way your loads will disconnect well before they get damaged. Looking forward to your high amp alternators! You may want a high idler unit for the alternator to keep the rpms up for when you want to charge. My "400 amp" alternator low-idles at only 200 amps. I'm also contemplating an intercooler + fan upgrade.

Hey Chrome...you might consider installing a 1500 watt inverter attached to your van battery. Works great as an off grid 1500 watt pure sine wave generator. Power problems solved for about $200.

About your siren and lights idea. I recommend you have a chat with the mounties concerning how to mount such gear so that you don’t rack up fines for trying to impersonate an authentic emergency vehicle. I know that we have laws about such equipment here in the states.
You are allowed to have all of those things in your vehicle for demonstration purposes only not to be used on city streets and I am NOT allowed to install anything with local emergency colours or visible light bars.. No big deal. I read the rules. I have common sense
I think you do have common sense but most don't which is why laws have to be spelled out.😸

Hi Chrome have you thought of adding a second alternator for charging your house batteries separately.
Leave the van out in the sun, get some days on the panels, and plug in to shore power to really top up your batteries

Make sure you fully charge the batteries when back at the shop. As you have shore plug in 👍
Cruz is living his best life.
I spend time in a truck camper in ski area parking lots and I don't move a lot so I find that a generator works best for charging batteries and running an electric heater to help dry things out. Parked with a fast idling V8 to charge batteries probably won't work very efficiently but Chrome drives around a lot so a high output alternator probably will work out fine.

U need to put something on or build into your van that u can take a extension cord and plug your van in whenever u not using it or just whenever your parked somewhere u can plug in and not have to worry about power running low

How is Cruz doing? Is he healing up ok? I'm glad that you are enjoying the shop. It was time for a new adventure. I wish I was brave and just say the heck with it and go buy a van. I'm not one to take risks though. I will get a plan together before I make a change and even then I may need a shove to get moving.
In the US we would get in trouble having/keeping lights and siren on an old ambulance or cop car

I’m so pissed at myself for selling my van. My truck is actually great for pulling my 33’ camper, but useless for stealth camping as I’m 6’ tall 286 pounds and I just don’t fit comfortably inside any way I’ve tried.
Hopefully your van lifters will be able to find the solution to this low voltage problem , Jeffie bear has problems, Emi has problems with hers. When you zero in on the fix. Let's us know so that when we get this problem we have the fix. !!!!!!
