That is VERY kind of you to say. There are so many fantastic musicians that never get seen or that we don't know about. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what music has given me over the years. Banjoistically yours, Jon Eric
Very , very well done. This is the best I've heard Foggy Mountain played, as good as Scruggs himself. I'm not kidding about that. You have incredible talent. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
So great! =) My father was teaching me the banjo a few years ago. I tried to learn everything from him before he passed away. My hopes are to start lessons after graduating form University this year. My dad was heavily inspired by Earl Scruggs!
Hey Jon, I had so much fun picking with you this morning, I had to look up one of your videos and get some more inspiration. Thanks a ton for coming over and starting my day off right! Peace.
wow Jon amazing. You look like a joy to be round and have learned the lesson that the love you withold is the pain you carry. Blessings love and keep playing.
Your timing is incredible! And your licks are tasteful, improving on an already legendary tune. Your playing reminds people that the banjo is a vibrant, soulful instrument. Personally, I'll be studying your version of the song for months.
Jesus... Everytime I work SO hard on practicing and I feel like I'm getting somewhere. And then I see your video's and it just makes me want to cry as I realize I'm nowhere near this! :) I wish you made some tutorials, it would be amazing to learn something from you. Unfortunately I live in a country where the Banjo is something exotic (that is: Belgium) and you wouldn't even fill a mini-van with all the banjo teachers of the country... Keep inspiring us!
I must have watched this video at least 20 times since I came across it. Jon, to put it simply I LOVE how you play Foggy Mountain Breakdown. I'm going to try my hand at those variations you worked into it. (I learned it from the tab out of Earl Scruggs' book.) Suffice it to say, you have great talent on the banjo. Thanks for all the videos and keep it up! :)
@TheOurgalaxy I learned with 9 months of formal lessons in Fredericksburg, VA (Picker's Supply on Caroline Street) from a wonderful banjo player named LARRY JETT!
What a great tune, and some excellent playing. I've been wanting to learn banjo for years (been playing guitar for a little over 15 years now) and this is one of my favorites. As luck would have it, my wife got me a 5 string open back washburn as a birthday present yesterday which I look forward to learning on. John, I've been listening to your channel for a couple years now, and just now realized you're from iowa city? I live about 20 miles away in kalona! small world!
Awesome dude! I'm 55 just got my first banjer last week and this is the first song I'm trying to learn. (Not doing half bad I must say) Figure if I can get this somwhere near to where you have it, everything else should be a cake walk. Love a good challenge.
Ive just started learning to play the banjo. I come from southwest Va so i figured i should haha. Your an amazing player though and your one of my inspirations
So amazing! I agree there should be a HD version of this. I can't wait to pick up the banjo and I'm sure I'm just gonna run into a wall when I do. Should be great fun though. :)
JonEricMusic It would be fantastic to see this cover in HD - to see and hear your playing better and I wonder what that banjo really sounds like. I hate to ask this but it would also be amazing if you could share some playing tips or licks because dang, your playing is extremely solid and tasteful! Thanks.
Fantastic Jon ! So good . Other than Mr Scruggs, the best version I've heard . Plenty on inspiration for a novice like here . Best wishes from Wales uk.
Excellent! The sound of Your banjo is perfect! And Your playing, of course. Sharp, as it must be. It has taste. Foggy MB is one of my (few) favourites, Your performance reminds me the good old banjos and players, quite near to Mr. Scruggs's one. Don't go toward the melodical style, please! That is not for banjo! As You play, that is! Best wishes: a drummer (and a bit five stringer) from Hungary I hope You play Cumberland Gap (my other forever favourite) too, now I try to find it.
Very nice pickin', Jon Eric.. May I bring another fine banjo player to your attention, if you haven't already heard of him?(and, I'd be shocked if you hadn't!): that would be the phenomenal Jens Kruger.
Love to have ya in Pensacola Floriduh man, i'd pay to see ya play and buy ya a beer to boot! I gotta question for ya. I was given an Orlando banjo and can't find squat on the maker, spoke with Bill Knopf he said he had not seen one in many years & thought it was a japanese make ,not so though. Any ideas? Thanks!
I enjoyed this very much man. haha I think the same thing at the end of a tune when I play the shave and a haircut ending...would you re-record it if you missed the last note? I think I would have to
Im probably not your typical banjo player (yet). i have never even picked up a guitar but its something about the sound of a banjo that gets me . im from good ole NC where there is no green grass only blue . is there any pointers you can give as far as whats a good banjo to start off on and where did you learn to play . thanks . BY THE WAY ONE DANG GOOD PLAYING . !!!
@kostasmart Nope just a guy who loves to pick a 5 string. (grin) Thanks for viewing and sharing with anyone who you think may like this one. Banjoistically yours, Jon Eric
Great Job Jon Eric! The original tune from Flatts and Scruggs from 1949 ruclips.net/video/z_Y3mnj-8lA/видео.html These guys were superb! The toughest and longest part is trying to speed it up to 130 bps. Im at a slow 50

@420dizzlemusik a good banjo to start off with in my opinion is an epiphone. It's pretty cheap, around $200.
