- Pipeline on December 13th, 2014 went from out-of-control to epic in a matter of minutes, following World Surf League Commissioner Kieren Perrow's call to stop competition for the day. Bad news for surfers in the Pipe Masters, great news for everyone else.

Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to edit the video to the exact length that would result in the playlist popup obstructing the entire last barrel ride???

Yup, join the club that wonder why people do that. This one only had one upcoming video covering the video, but seemed to be in the perfect spot to block it. Some you get 3 or 4 covering the entire video!
I had a police car chase I was watching where the entire video, 8 minutes long, culminated in the last 10 seconds with 4 videos covering the outcome. You could see pieces of the car around the outside edges of the 4 videos but could not see how the crash happened.

Back in ‘70 the crowds weren’t so big... on the shore and line up. That’s about the biggest this south shore (Ala Mo Bowl) goofy foot ever enjoyed (pure adrenaline fear while out there) but the memories of being locked in with no chance and suddenly feeling the push of the pipe collapsing behind you and push you back out into the sunlight... at 68 years old, I’ll never forget the thrill.
Crowds on the beach like that though, might have made me try harder.
It’s like being born again with full consciousness all the way through the darkness. The primal mother.

I like how thougg some barrels may look quick, but when your in them even for a seconds, time completely slows down and that moment becomes almost timeless.

After surfing Lahaina on Maui for the first time a few months ago, I have a new found respect for these insane waves and the brave souls that ride them and make it look so fluid and easy. Many times these RUclips videos fail to show just how much training and practice it takes to approach a swell like this hovering above a razor sharp reef. God speed fellow surfers 🤘🏻

To all beginners if you are going for a surf and you see a wave that looks like that stay on the beach.
Although as an old fart surfer,i kind of agree with you,you will remain a beginner if you dont go out into surf that ahead of your ability.as the saying goes," if it dont kill ya( and pipeline is fully capable of doing just that) then its good for ya".rock on hank.✌️

@@Pyndle i wouldn't recommend pipeline for kooks( it pretty much became out of bounds by the mid to late 60s ) my point is that if your a learner( and you never stop being a learner in surfing,unless of coarse you have completely mastered shipstern bluff,cloudbreak and "the right) then the only way to progress is go out into surf thats a little more challenging than the last stuff you surfed. I myself went from two foot devonian and cornish mush into uluwatu perfection and was more kook than a kookey thang, however,this was the mid 70s so i was more or less alone out there,but the challenge was the best surf instructor ever.

That’s really big waves at Pipeline. When I was 10-11 years old I watched surfing dvds all the time for 2 hours a day
Most dangerous wave in the world. It's taken more surfers than any other place. I've been there many times but never had the balls to attempt it. If the wave doesn't kill you one of the surfers might if you get in their way. My wife and I now live in Acapulco half the year and I have surfed there and to the south in Puerto Escondido a few times. Escondido can get very gnarly too! 🤙🌊🏄♂️

I’ve surfed both and honestly because of all the sand that puerto picks up as it’s breaking it seemed like a heavier wave it’s jus if you fall there is sand waiting at the bottom and not reef lol. However I’ve only surfed pipeline 3 total sessions and the third sesh I cut my foot and had to go get a shot so I didn’t get staph... prolly of all the waves I tried to catch at pipe I made it on like 25% lol

100% commitment to the drop is necessary, but NOT sufficient, to shred at Pipe. It's only just the beginning, after which skill & knowledge & experience & instincts & reflexes take over.
