Love my vws I'm into mopar now but ,I did work at cbperformance and built my first car 64 vw bug 1915 with CNc ported 044 heads 44x37 valves match ported to manifolds with 48 dellortos and a custom ground cam.was a beast
DUDE When I was a kid, I used to watch Herbie every day as well lol. We always referred to Herbie as my best friend because no matter where I went, I always had a Herbie Johnny Lightning toy with me.
Love the look and stance. Great build man...I have a 68 with a rebuilt 1641 engine. Mine is also not stock and looks like yours a little hot rod. I have the wide mouth wheels with a dip dish in back and it gives it that muscle car style look. I want to change the front fenders a cause I like the earlier type lights. Just like yours. Besides that I have to finish the air bag system, I didn’t install that it was already set up that way. Pretty much everything is new from front air bags, to complete Suspention. My first bug it’s almost done and I’m really excited to get this thing out .
Hell yeah. My dad has a 66 sunroof bug with a 2332 pushing close to 240hp in a car that weighs like, 1800lbs. Had a set of 48 dellortos on it before he switched to webers.
Herocious? Never heard that one before. Horrendous combined with atrocious? Killer car, something you can definitely be proud of. Got bit by the foxbody mustang bug but I never forgot my first love, the beetle. I wish I never got rid of my '71 super beetle. I can certainly relate to being a Herbie fanatic as a little boy which prompted me to name my Dad's bug Herbert.
This is amazing! PA reppin! Would love to build a big like this, so glad the owner enjoys it. He talks like he is from Blair Co. where I’m from, would love to see this thing rippin’ around someday.
I have a 73 Orange convertible super beetle with 2010 cc W/ hipo heads,94 jugs, thumper cam, under carbed W/2 barrel progressive carb.W/ other little extras you can put in the engine 150 hp plenty fast for the weight , lowered front suspension not overly large tires in the rear BUT the main thing I wanted to mention is I can't go to the grocery store without talking to at least a half dozen people that either love the car or have a story about the vw they had, I love the stories they have, and I love this car better than my cobra mustang.
Hey brother, nice car! I have a 67 too. Came with fiberglass fat rear fenders. Yours turned out great, I may keep them now I have seem how it looks with good paint. I'm not 100% sure as I can only tell from the video, but I think you have exhaust leaks and that is why you are backfiring. Those VW clamps on the heaterboxes to header are for me the hardest to get to seal and stay sealed, otherwise I get exhaust leaks and mine pops back the same way. Or, you have a really baddass overlapping cam which could do it too I suppose. Thanks for the upload
Clicked cuz I saw the 200hp. So ..I have a similar displacement " Stroker " with the same HP target . All new and sitting on my bench waiting to go into my round tube chassis sand rail. yeh its gonna be nuts on the sand & occasional street rips. But...I really need to put a built transaxle / stubs / joints in it b4 that Stroker goes in. Just too much goin on to finish the up the install. My sons say I should get another beetle to put this in & just drop an ecotec turbo in the rail..
Having owned a 61 bug many decades ago, this is the perfect engine for these fun little cars, so they can be driven like a sports car and have the performance of the older Porsche 356 model with 90-100 HP
Haha was thinking same thing. Bet he’s closer to 170-180 at flywheel. The 44s don’t flow enough without killing response with a silly sized Venturi. I use dellorto 45s, Italian Weber’s are cool but not the same.
Thx for posting your VW bug, I've loved and owned VW bugs since a kid. Moving into retirement, I'm starting the hunt for a project bug. If you could do it again what would you do different? Airkewld full pan, narrow frontend, air ride, roll cage /w test fitting the body, sound insulate pan/doors/headliner, CB Performance big stroker engine build /w electronic fuel injection
Bought mine for $1,967 in the Spring of 1967 in a closed-bid sale offered to employees of the insurance company my dad worked for, Outbid the second-highest bidder by $23. When I bought it the car had 6,000 miles on it, had been stolen by never-apprehended thieves from its original owner in Bremerton, Washington, driven to Reno, Nevada, and left on the street. It was in perfect condition. The Tacoma, Washington insurance company had it driven back to Tacoma and sold in the described auction. I kept it until the Spring of '83, when I sold it (with 319,000 miles on it) for $900 to a woman whose mechanic boyfriend insisted that she buy it. I was lucky never to have suffered a major impact collision in it. Later studies revealed that a fairly low-impact rear-end collision would tear the driver and passenger seats off their flimsy rails, thus turning the spines of the unfortunate occupants into strands of cooked spaghetti, resulting in head-to-toe paralysis. Ouch. I loved my '67 Bug, but I was lucky.
Yes, that's true. I had 48DRLA's on a 2017cc 78.4x90.5. The Dellorto's had a funny sound "the Dellorto tweet". There were special gaskets that got rid of the annoying sound. The Dellorto's were ok but hard to tune and find parts. I went back to the 44 Weber's. I did re-use the linkage because it was better than the Weber "redline" linkage. I later upgraded the linkage to Gene Berg (ugly but superior in function). Man, that was a long time ago, soo much fun.
I like it when they’re driven hard. I had a stock ‘73. I dragged the bottom all the way up 4wd only “trails” to inspiration point many times. Those guys partying up there would be like, “HEY! How the f did you get up here?” 🤯
long story short, grow up in SoCal, but i moved to Missouri at 21 for work, brought my Bug with me, got laughed at a lot by the good ole boys in their V8s, tell i started smokin their @sses.. lol. sweet Bug bro
I hate how the rear wheels become so angled, they start looking like a suspension failure. Everybody is trying to make them as low as they can go, but I believe a bit more ground clearance would make them both better looking and more practical.
I’d offer 100k for this bug just to see if he would keep it. Hard to pass up 100k for a car that could be built for a fraction of that price. Beautiful Bug though congrats
Ruin the drivability? Fully built gearbox in my car and still runs a freeway flyer 4th... i love uneducated people 🙄 listening to him spout nonsense out makes my brain hurt
I love that the owner "Drives the hell out of it"! They need to be driven and enjoyed
Love it! I’ve got a 2332cc with 201hp and 206ftlbs (with the belt off) and man does it surprise people!
The Euro Tuck exhaust like this was the first one I had on my 73 Super. Loved the way it sounded.
Just bought a 63 beetle, been looking for heavy inspiration and this is perfect
A lovely, useable bug, love the stance and the wheels and the colour too,I'd love to have one just like it .
I applaud your decision to drive your car. I dont understand people who buy cars and never drive them
Brings back childhood memories of watching my dad drag race his 69 at Lyonns.
Thank you Brother! You give me HOPE , to build my DREAM CAR! 🤠

To get that hp on a bug engine with no turbo, that's impressive 👏 👌
or just not true..
@@bobkrinsky2117 it’s pretty possible
They’re overbuilt engines from factory think of it like a small flat 4 German LS
This is one of the best car channels out there, killer Bug!
Thanks man!

Love it , he should chassis dyno it , he will be surprised to find out he’s only making 150 Hp if that.
Agree

Nice! Probably running lean with that popping exhaust
If you think that is fast......GO TURBO 😳 double the HP at
All that off throttle backfiring could be tuned out.
Sit down shut up enjoy the view in my fast VW!! I love it enjoy it for life!!
Dellorto only made 44mm in side drafts, those are 45s. I guess I'm "that guy".
That's how I remember it too. I had the 36DRLAs they were great. 36, 40, 45, 48(?)

200 hp in a street bug is fun
I only have one video, it’s my 67
Rancho trans could get you a good setup and keep it streetable.
One of my first cars was a 67 bug. But not as nice as yours. 👍🏼🤙🏼
Love it !!! Damn it . Gotta get a bug again !!!
Awesome car!!
I'm just glad he kept the wing windows. Every Cali bug I've seen they take them off. Why?
Because most people sell them, they sell for a pretty penny because they’re hard to find
Because no windows is a cleaner look.
Does water get into the deck lid easier with that modification?

Great vw love it
Ever consider putting a Type 4 in it?
awesome car, deck lid kills it though
How come it is 200lbs heavier than stock?
Nice....practical....very nice....
Love this ride

>>2000 lb 1967 VW Beetle
What size wheels are thay, they look Awesome 😍
*200 HP is highly unlikely with 44 IDF's and 36mm centuries.*
That is a heater box header exhaust too. Lucky to have 150 horsepower.
Dellorto didn't make a 44mm carburetor
Love it. 👍👍👍👍👍. dings add cararter
I love it
71 vw kg went 85mph tx to toronto.
I love my bug but i also miss my civic
Where is Don from? Looks like PA, but I detect a bit of a "Delco" accent?
needs timing /tuning to stop overfueling hence backfire but a nice job all round!!!!!!!
... It's made to spit fire.... and it's carbureted...
Camina??
