Bad job on netting a big Chrome Chovy hahaha… Just kidding. I have all respect for Kayakers. Fighting a Salmon with a barbless hook on a Kayak and you have to juggle with so many things is not an easy task. My hat off to you Brother Keith. Great job on hooking up a big fish and capturing the fighting moment with it. Awesome job Brother… Keep up the good work.
Haha actually it’s part of my technique when landing salmon. It always seems like I’m netting the salmon a lot of times but I’m using the net to scare the salmon to waste the rest of its energy so I can land it safely and not lose it. Shhh 🤫
you also helped me realize I should be netting on the right side of my yak. I hold everything mirror opposite to you, and noticed the same kind of netting challenges
Living in WA I never trolled a live herring before, only cut Plug. How did you get the bait helmet on ? Nice fish TLA!! Rewarded for sure... Season opens here in 36 hours. I'm so ready to be back in the kayak.
What is the longest rod you'd use for salmon trolling on the kayak? I've heard multiple people who say they would not go longer than 8', yet just as many people (mostly from the Northwest) who would use rods that are 10'6 long. Maybe I am missing something, but I think using a 10'6 trolling rod for a kayak means you will run the risk of high sticking when landing a fish, and I don't know if this is worth the ease of handling a longer leader and the easier hook sets unless there is an easier and less stressful way to land fish with such a long rod. Your opinion will be greatly appreciated!
I would agree with the no more than 8 ft advice. Landing a salmon on a kayak is a get difficult task and having a longer rod helps with sticking them but will make it very difficult to land it - if not impossible. I would stick with 8 ft and below
@@TheLostAnchovy Thanks for replying! I had the same feeling too. I just don't know how people can land salmon with a rod that is almost as long as their kayak. Now I know what I am looking for. In the meantime, I will be stuck on the surf slugging 4 oz spoons until my shoulder gives out.
That is one serious salmon on a kayak! 👍🙏🎣⚒
I love kayak salmon fishing. What a rush
congratulations Chovy on nice chrome. great fight and some tense moment for me watching you net the fish. nice job and great 🎵🎶
Wow... Nice king! ...and you didn't have to drive far from home. Congrats!
Yes I love it when I can fish close to home lol
Great vid! Thanks and see ya' on da wattah'! Great 1st keeper...

All I want is ONE this year! 😂 Glad you got yours already. I’m waiting for my time to come…
Haha I find myself saying that in my head a lot on long skunk days like yesterday lol “ I just want one ☝️ … anything “
Looks exciting, great catch!
Good job keith!
Thanks Michael
Good stuff Keith. Waiting 4 the weather to calm down some, then I'll get mine.

@@TheLostAnchovy Better than me. I lost my net while fighting a salmon today. Jared had to come over and net it for me lol.
Yeah baby thats makes me want to go fishing!
you also helped me realize I should be netting on the right side of my yak. I hold everything mirror opposite to you, and noticed the same kind of netting challenges
Go go
Nice fish tla!
Thanks 😊
Woohoo!!! 👊 that’s a nice one!
You doing well too Andy! Now let’s get Jake his first!
@@TheLostAnchovy Tks!!! Yep, Jake needs to get on one soon!
Nice salmon, Keith. I need to go catch my first kayak salmon soon.
Salmon season just starting. I will pick up soon!

If the herring are small enough you can jam it in. Fresh bait on KA has always worked well for me. IMHO
Congratulations on the big fat salmon! But I’m digging more of your editing and drone shots! It’s coming out really great and quality. Sick video.
Yeah it’s always good to have a mix of footage to keep the story line moving. Long , medium and close shots all need to work together.
Nice! Salmon is very low priced when you consider the effort 😉
Nice catch, I am gonna c u at redondo beach for lobster this season opener?
Probably that is where I like to go. See you then
Nice fish, but try to release under size without touching or taking out of water
How'd you fit a herring in a KA head??? Hmmm
Just jam it in there lol. It fits!
