Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.
I was salmon fishing just off the Farallon Islands in 1997. Three of us on a 25 foot Albin and we had caught near limits by 09:30. Suddenly, a very big White breached and hit a seal full on about 50 or 60 feet off our starboard side. It was hard to tell the length of the fish but it took the seal in two and came back round for the bit that was left bobbing on the surface. I gained a whole new level of respect for Mother nature that day.
Adam, it freaks me out that you don't put a tether on the rod and reel combo. I just feel like one day the big one is gonna yeet that rig down to Davey Jone's locker :0
I had been fishing for more than 40yrs and the way you explain things, i feel like a ROOKIE...Nice Video....Thanks for sharing your expertise.
That should be a heads-up for getting an insulated fish bag and not dragging bloody fish tethered to your kayak!🎣😃
Hell yeah.
Y’all actin like he’s crazy you should see spear gun fishers. They shoot the fish then attach it to something that stays like 5 feet away and that’s actual bloody fish. Sharks are attracted to blood but I’m pretty sure it’s been tested and droplets don’t attract much.
I love the idea of fishing from a kayak but ,there’s massive sharks out there ,and if u flipped or something it might be all she wrote
Higher chance of choking on a cabbage leaf than you do of getting killed by a shark.
Not when u put yourself in a kayak in the ocean it’s not ,these guys got videos of sharks bumping there kayaks and all kinds of interactions ,
@@gregchapman6190 yeah your way better of with a small boat or zodiac with a motor. Too risky on a kayak
OK I didn't see it so I dont bleave anything unless I see the shark for my self tho
@@cwilson7458 I have zero chance of getting killed by a shark but anybody that goes into the ocean especially on something that can be flipped easily has a much higher chance of getting killed by a shark.
When I was fishing in Bodega Bay, in a 14 foot metal boat, a Great White longer than the boat swam by only about 6 feet away from us. Scary.
Bodega bay ♥️✌️
Sacramento says hello!
Before you use your drone, make sure you check the airmaps to see if you can legally fly one in that area. Lots of places are off limits due to no fly zones. The fines can be huge.
That is correct. Everything from the Golden Gate Bridge to and including San Mateo County is off limits to Drones.
I hate people flying drones over me at the ocean. It kills the mood
How embarrassing for the squid to be hooked up to an octopus hook...
lololol
🤣
my squid love octopus hook 1/0
Good morning. Why do you have your rod rest facing backwards? Isn’t there a danger of losing the rod?
That's why they have scupper holes, so the piss can drain out of the kayak😆
Are sharks attracted to piss?
@@DieHardFishing I feel like they are. Every time I pee when I'm surfing I'll spot one around the area in Bolinas.
That’s crazy!! An old buddy has a story that he caught a big old Thresher while he was reeling in a perch (only 20 pound line). Line snapped but he got pictures of it swimming around under the pier. Bunch of kids were playing in the water until they saw the shark. There is a joke in the area that all of the tourists pee in the water😂
All the survival texts say no dumping shit and piss out of life boats until you have a decent headway in a current etc. Dump in one go and get away from it. Don't want a trail in the water for them
Shark reaction 6:25
Thank you 😁
Thank you. You saved me from wasting 6 minutes watching this video.
No proof either, just heresay. Video earns thumbdown for title bait.
@@NZIGNANTI who hurt you
Thanks
Die Hard Fishing is taking it to a new level. Started out Surf Fishing then moved to Kayak Fishing and now Drone Footage. Dude this is becoming a must watch program!!
Appreciate the support bro!
Could you do a video on your setup perhaps? Or what could be a good starter kayak setup for California offshore?
You go in that kayak? Kayak goes in the water? Shark’s in the water? OUR shark?...Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies...😵
That's CAPTAIN Quint, to you, sir.
I keep waiting for the big mouth full of teeth to come up behind him, too scary..lol
Remember the ‘Mad’ Magazine satire of the ‘Jaws’ movie, where he was called ‘Squint’? Hilarious piece of writing...
Hope you had toilette paper cause I would have crapped my pants...lol
Bad fish. Swallow you whole. A little shaking. A little tenderizing. And down you go.
As a teen we used to surf a place in Mexico called the Cannery. There was just something about sitting on a surfboard with my legs dangling in the water with fins
swimming in a circle around me that didn't feel right!
No fishing pressure? Those are my stomping grounds and that place gets hammered every single weekend during fishing season! Not to mention there is a fleet of rental boats that come off that pier behind you. When the wind starts to blow here, that spot is usually the most sheltered and all boats go there. If you want to see 15 great white sharks at once, paddle a mile to the north east. They are there every single day.
We're getting something, but we need to get something bigger! Lol
You’ll see sharks on the drone if you keep at it. There are more sharks in the bay during summer/fall. Keep looking in same area.
Glad you came back in.....I'd Rather be safe than sorry!
You're living the dream. Great move. When you started the drone one word came to mind: Freedom. enjoy
Drone=New Possibilities
We were out just a little south of the mile buoy in our kayaks last year and a big great white was cruising around probly about 50 yards away from us maybe a little closer but luckily it never came up too close. We didnt stop fishing the hali bite was too good lol
The stretch of beach from the cement ship to Moss Landing is called Shark Park. This is around the time they start showing up.
William Kuelker
Yep, they are already showing up and sometimes 10-15 at a time. That’s why I only fish from boats or shore here. The biggest shark I have seen in my boat was a 16’ monster. It made the 12’ shark that I saw on an earlier trip look like a minnow. It was so wide it looked like a submarine. I was in my 21’ Cuddy cabin and I still moved away from the side of the boat. Intimidating to say the least. I was just up from 2 mile in only 50’ of water.
Yeah I prefer a boat with a motor.
Oh, they go all the way down to seaside my friend
The better part of valor is the decision you made getting off the water. "Any fish will bite if you have the right bait." Looks like a good kayak.
The reason you do well is that you teach people how to fish, Most other videos show highlights.Well done.
Dope clip! Wish you would of had a POV cam to see that great white breach. You know that’s really lucky to see right?
Beautiful drone footage accompanied with the soothing music towards the end ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
He left the danger zone! Yeah! Very smart move! And now he is using a drone instead of his kayak! The peace and serenity of the music reflects the wisdom of his choice to leave a dangerous situation, and seek the safety of the shore and a drone! I've seen multiple and very frightening footage of shark attacks on kayaks! This leaves me to conclude that the open sea is no place for a kayak! May we all be the wiser!
D @@DieHardFishing
You are brave to be out on a small kayak, with big sharks around you. Even though you don't see them one can feel they are there!
I personally have had a shark encounter while surfing, right off of Huntington Beach pier, California. The waves were beautiful that day.
I can repeat that encounter over and over again, and still get cold sweat. Luckily I came out alive of that attack, but I just can not seem to get back in the water again...
I totally respect those who have also been attacked, even lost a leg, or arm and STILL have it in them to get back in the water!!!
Some years have passed and I still can not get in the water yet...
"You be safe out there bro", and when your gut tells you get out, simply do it!!!!
I should have done so when I got that instinctive gut feeling to get out, but didn't, and when the wave intervals stopped for 3-minutes, is when got attacked...
I love fishing, but need to be on a big boat to feel more at ease...
Take good care
Nice story man, fear can be a mother. Stay safe .💪💪💪
No he's not he's a moron
What actually happened?
An attack in HB huh? I surf here regularly. Would love to have you verify this attack as I'll gladly ask around. It would be huge news for our waters to have a white shark attack and I'm sure I could def ask around about it.
@@Gmark25 Ollie, nice to hear you are from that area. This happened in 79'. Yes, I'm that old! No gore story here, and the ONLY marks I had was from the sandpaper like shark skin, along it's whole body length (from top fin to tail fin looked like 6 feet) so the total length was more, easy to see at night because of HB pier lights it passed under me, rubbing my leg making it bleed from the speed of that turn pass on my lower leg! I talked several buddies who dive and they said "it was bumping you to check you out" also went on to say good thing I remained calm with no crazy splashing when that occurred. I was wearing a spring suit that night. And the reason I mentioned that I was lucky to come out of the encounter alive was that if it weren't for the wave intervals right after that happened it would have went for me WITHOUT a doubt, I took the first available swell. When I reached he sand, there were people from the pier talking down to me, saying it was huge and following me as I belly boarded in.
There were plenty of folks on the pier that night, screaming, SHARK!!! I remember just getting out of the water, dropping my board on the sand, and sitting pretty much in shock still of what just happened, that's when I noticed the bleeding of my leg from the shark skin rubbing against it... what surprised me was the size of the shark! I know it wasn't a blue shark, this had some width to it!
Stay safe.
“ I think there’s some big fish here” man had no idea
I have a friend doing white shark research in the Santa Barbara area and they regularly see 15-30 white sharks per day with a drone!
I think the shark thought he was part of that food chain challenge. 😂
hahahahahaha, that would be the end of the challenge for sure
I love how he says its a small one but his pole is bent to max and drags going crazy, and he think he's going to get deep sea monster
“You’re gonna need a bigger boat”- Jaws (1975)
Is that supposed to be funny you literally just quoted a movie... 🤦♂️
Kayak is all I got, lol
@@DieHardFishing at least you're out there for the moment!
Seacliff has 26 sharks cruising from the cement ship to New Brighton, that's just the sharks spotted. Kayakers are getting buzzed daily. Times and environments have changed where the sharks are now thick and expanding up and down the coast. There needs to be a new law giving kayak anglers the right to defend themselves without threat of a huge ticket for harming one!
Tons of sharks and terrible fishing.
Finally you got a drone! Nice addition. I also would think it would be helpful for us newbies if you just gave general locations where you are fishing. I know you don't want to give you fishing spots up, but maybe when you are out you could give general locations.
I use my drone for fishing a lot but in my video does not look that good what drone was you using
Go to San Gregorio, or pescadero, launch off any access and fish the rocks that that are just off the rocky shores at high tide, get nice cabezones. Right off the light house, right off the golf course, all them rocks that are out of casting distance from shore and exposed at low tide. Once I get my aluminum going, I’m going to grab a few, cabezon is the best of them all imo.
The small size could mean that it was a salmon shark. They look a lot like great whites but behave more like mako sharks. They are fish eaters and a sign of a healthy ecosystem.
Believe I saw one of those (about this size) breach nearby in Pacifica last year (month of June), fully horizontal, several feet out of the water! Pretty rad.
Brian Pettersen they are good jumpers
This area is a known rookery for adolescent great white sharks. I've seen dozens in this area while kayak fishing. Even the whale watching boats advertise shark watching now.
We no longer have a healthy ecosystem.
Shark: your gonna need a bigger boat!!!🤣🤣🤣
Every kayak Fishermans nightmare. I’m just jealous of your Fishery man, such easy to catch lingcod there . It’s like rare to get them here in SoCal.
Good video buddy, from Australia. That milky coloured water with that weed looks like shark country.
I don’t have one but I hear a lot of kayak fisherman really like their Shark Shield.
I heard that a few years ago the shark watching boats started chumming just about a mile or two south of there. If true that could be the reason for the increasing numbers in the area. Either way stay safe out there!
The Santa Cruz Surfcaster remember we saw one breach out there!?
Hook2Cook saw it happen again yesterday. It’s getting pretty crazy up here
Love the drone footage will continue watching
You might think about a live well or killing them quickly as Blood will and may attract Sharks of local species, so trailing bleeding or live fish on an external stringer may be dangerous and believe me up north we do see Great White Sharks.
6:30 Me: DUN NU DUN NUN DUN NUN DUN NUN DUN DUN DUN🦈
Just curious why you’re not using braid? No comparison when considering strength, ability to cut through water, durability and ability to sense strikes.
Floating around in the Great Whites feeding ground in a bathtub toy? Probably not the smartest thing you can do. Apparently he didn't see any of the videos where the Great white sharks breach, smash, flip the kayaks, then go right for center when it's upside down in the water. The sharks figured it out. You are a floating snack. .....so now we know what happened to all the missing ocean kayakers over the last few years. Lol
where is one story of this?
@@mr0mime March 18th KRCA News. Great white attack on kayaker, Monterey Bay California. Mar 18th 2017 Shark flipped kayak, goes inside while its upside down moments after barely escapes. I think there's footage of it on RUclips. 2. October 2019 Catalina island, near Ship Rock California. 19ft Great white attack, breached water, clamped and bite within inches of occupant near cockpit. Left teeth in the kayak. There were 9 attacks by Great white in 2017 just in that Pacific region of Cal. 4 of them were confirmed kayakers. Another incident years ago, they found just the womans mangled body and the paddle. Between the appearance of a seal or dead whale silhouette, and add bait scent? You might as well be riding in a big fishing lure with your wrist slit to draw them. Lol
I never go into the water without my Shark Shield. I use a Freedom 7 that’s attached around my ankle and shoved down the scupper hole putting a protective field around me.
Also, if I dump my kayak, it goes with me 😁
excellent video, & you're right....some years ago I was trying out a new camera from the beach here in NYC & happened to take a shot which showed a couple of hundred feet out an enormous white in the breaker wave & after examining the shot even more one could see more of them in the water....yet no life guard spotted them....they are in a sense "invisible" and for the most part behaving themselves (and I would gotten the hell out if I was where you were also)
That is why you need your fish finder running on your Yak. When you crest the shelf your kayaks shadow represents bait, to bigger predators.
Man , I wish I could have seen that. Awesome!
Thank goodness you came into shore - you were too far out...lol
Try the drone over Santa Cruz on a hot, cloudless, sunny day. I think you are going to get the shots you are looking for. Saw 2 in one day. I don't really want to know what's swimming around me while I'm fishing. Ignorance is bliss. ;-)
Where was this filmed?
My common sense tells me that this doesn’t sound like a good idea but I understand your love of fishing.
The Otter was better than spotting a shark!
I would have quit for the day also. Great drone shots!
Where do you plan on putting a big halibut on that pontine you’re riding around on?
Curious what drone you have? Great picture. Where can I get one?
Terence Howard dgi mavick
Your big fish feeling was correct!! Lol.Glad you're safe bro. As much as I love the ocean, it's beautiful different species. I am a freshwater kayak angler. I fish very large lakes and resevoirs miles long. Love my Auto Pilot powerd by Minnkota with spot lock. But I love watching you guys, kayak fish in the ocean. I have fished very shallow and live the ocean. Bur extremely risky. Be safe bro. 🙏 🎣 🤟
Awesome footage Adam! Dat drone was well worth it 🤙🏽
Thanks 👍
Die Hard Fishing 🎣
No judgment on heading to shore after the GW sighting. I would have done the same. Fisherman are a spooky bunch by nature and it’s easy for the imagination to get fired up. Great work with the drone (even annotating the bait ball! Love it!) Keep it up. Stop filming while you drive (seriously)! Look forward to the next video!
Finish the food chain challenge bro. Fisherman catches kingfish... Great white eats kingfish, fisherman and kayak.... Be careful man... Damn.
That looks so much fun. There is something swimming in the water on the right side of the video at 8:04. Watch it . It show up really fast.
I have seen them at Guadalupe Island in Mexico. 15 feet and wide as car. Was eating 150lbs yellowfin tuna that we would hook. 3 bites and you get the head of the fish.
Very cool drone footage. Thank you!
great video nice calm water good fishing
I wondered about encounters of the shark kind, especially with a stringer full of fish trailing in the water . . . in a Kayak!!
Smart yakfishers, use a catch bag or cooler. Only those that tempt fate put fish on a stringer off the side of the yak.
Man in the grey suit: "Hey bro, there's some bigger Ling over here. I'll jump and show you!"
DieHardFishing: *Paddles back to shore*
Man in the grey suit: "Why can't I have friends :("
Lol, sorry Mr. Grey Suit. I'll try my luck over here.
It's a whole lot different being in the water with the shark, believe me!
Is this off the coast of California? If so, where in California?
What kind of salmon rod do you have
When you wonder why nobody is fishing that area ? Yep big fish 😂
What company drone are you using?
Thats why I dont bleed my fish and leave them on a stringer , over the side of the kayak .
Nothing says come eat me more LOL
one hell of a click bait, ya got me lol
Drone footage was great
Great addition! Beautiful footage!
Good video. Great catches. Nice treat seeing you fly your Mavic Air 2 also. I love my MA2. I Just filmed a lighthouse by my favorite blackfishing spot here on Long Island with it. I posted it today.
You need one of those C02 shark knives strapped to your side. Better safe then food.
Those small lings you were catching... are referred to as Greenlings in Canada because of their obvious green colour, clearly different from the other Lings. The meat turns white when cooked, as you likely know. And of course the British call 'Lings" something altogether different.
Where is he fishing?
Be careful out there, my young friend!
Dude awesome video how deep are you for halibut?
Waldo fishing.
You don't want to be shark bait! Somebody was taken down recently! It is a risk! Be careful and safe!
To “ Die Hard Fishing”. Can you do a catch and cook video, with the fish you called it a “ king fish”.
Those fish are not great for eating in my experience, best used for bait
Are you inside the bay?
At the end those looked like juicy waters for surf fishing
Enjoyed the drone footage!👍
Die Hard: I believe your channel is one of the VERY BEST on RUclips!! I love your videos brother!
What kind of drone is that?
Nice session. I like the drone footage.
What rod is that u using
Don't blame ya
That is why I carry a big ass cooler on my kayak, for that exact reason
scary things beneath the surface :-(
What you don't see you don't worry.
Same here!
@@DieHardFishing hey just wanted to say thank you if you read this, I purchased a kayak recently and started fishing off of it, and caught my first fish of my life on it, I just want to say thank you for the videos because without your existence I wouldn't have gotten into this hobby, thanks buddy! I also fish socal, I regularly go to long beach harbor
@@extrasteez5727 let's go fishing I fish there too
Why would anyone be fishing in the ocean when there are things there that can easily tip you over and eat you? Namily of course, sharks..especially since they may show up and eat your catch. I just don't see the common sense in it.
Adventure
Not Adventure stupidity
And he's out there all by himself 😱.
Because A) sharks don’t hunt this way. They don’t look at a floating object and just flip it for the hell of it. B) if you’ve ever been scuba diving you’ve been around sharks, you just don’t see them before they see you and they usually take off in the opposite direction
i’m gonna make a vid in my pool - {point}there’s a killer whale -get 4m views 😂
Cute little otter
What's the rod and reel setup
