"Watts you talkin' about Willis[ton]?" J/k, another great video. I just hope John Myers returns for the Kicker UnMasked detaild LX Series video in December :D
After the last amp you reviewed, it's nice to see the Kicker do well over its rated power in certified mode on the SMD AD-1, even when undervolted. Kicker doesn't mess around.
Gotta love Kicker, that seems like a very high quality amp. Would def consider that for my next build. Wish Rockford Fosgate would get back in the game like Kicker.
Your videos have gotten so much better with time.Congratulatios. I like how you put the ratings in the corner of the screen while you are doing the test. Hey, on your next follow-up video.Let us know to what is the signal-to-noise ratio on this amp.Appreciate it derek have a good day
One would be a nice solution for a kick ass well rounded stereo system. I only wish I had one of these back when I was younger and putting in stereos in my vehicles! If I decide to again this would be a simple component to start with.
Impressive dyno stats. The control center looks next level, to be able to make crossover changes from the driver's seat of your vehicle? -- That's really a Cadillac feature. I'm sure it'll be a Cadillac price, but it looks to be worth a premium price for an all-in-one solution. Your video is great. The time you spend on all the details really make your videos so easy to watch and they communicate the data in a way that's easy to digest and understand.
Side Notes: STILL use a DSP, the control module is NOT a DSP... and STILL set the crossovers on the amp (with more tolerance on the crossover points as a safety measure in case the DSP ever fails). Also, SO HAPPY to see magnets used by manufacturers. I've been using magnets for installs since early 2000's (Harbor Freight, my friends... a good maybe CAF or Justin/DIY Audio Guy video).
Exactly! This amplifier may have a few DSP functions (like a headunit would have a few DSP functions) but it is not a traditional full blown DSP that is capable of adjusting EQ, time delay, levels and crossovers.
@wal This is in reference to some other people that have described this as a DSP amp. Some people get confused by it having a DSP chip in it. It's just a very basic chip. Mainly for the crossovers.
Its not that they hate, its their pricing, this amp will cost near 1500 if not more for stuff that is not needed. JL audio does the same thing, and both are getting out bumped for the dollar.
@leegiovanni8933 but you get the quality the others you say out bump then for the dollar don't have. Yes you pay for the name but you have to think about the longevity of the product and consider that in the price. Also people hate on kicker constantly. Especially their subs. When their subs work very well and last forever. People just put them in to small of a box.
Devil went down to Georgia... Tested a kicker amp .. gee, I paid for my items at a store once, seeing that the Grand total was the number of the beast... I swiftly grabbed a totally un-needed bic lighter to change the total amount of money that I owed. Can't believe triple 6 showed up on your SMD Dyno! 😂
Huh??? Never seen a 5 channel rated .5 on the 5th channel. Amplifiers run much more efficient at higher ohms loads to with higher voltage lower current.
I just found my old pair of 1995 10" Kicker Competition C10a subs (red white black logos) in their original boxes. I wish I could send to you for testing ! They will be my project for next year for a garage stereo. Cheers and happy holidays !
Dean's video was GREAT, as his usually are... Five Star Car Audio. No need to repeat the same info. Also, Kicker UnMasked (every other Tuesday) will be doing an in-depth features vieo also but not covering what Big D does. *Spoiler Alert: The most overpowered:RMS power rated Kicker has made since the XS50 & XS100 :D Livin' Loud (and clean), Baby!
So u basically get a 1200 watt amp on the 4 ch side plus a 1000 for ur sub. This is a really nice amp, but I'm guessing it's going to be close to $1000
Between us and 5 stars video I can already tell I'm going to be ordering one of these for my daughters car. I just got her a 2017 fiat 500 and I have some down for sound components for the front and coaxial for the rear and a set of nvx 8" subs. Can't remember the model number but there the cast basket w carbon dust caps. But I'm in the process of building the box now and I have an old school kxa 1200.1 I was going to use and buy a separate 4 channel but there's very limited room In the Fiat 500 so a 5 channel is going to be alot better option. I've always preached kicker amps to people but everyone always thinks of Walmart kicker so they've gotten a bad name, but high end kicker equipment is hard to beat for Sq installs. Now if your just trying to move alot of air there are better options but if you want good clean audio there definitely in the top 5 in my opinion thanks big D for another good video
I was thinking the circle arrow on the LED control panel was for it to automatically cycle through different colors. You say it's a reset button? Why would that be needed?
If you decide to put it into a different vehicle or change your speaker configuration it will give you a clean slate to start tuning for the new setup.
@johnmyers5653 Is this John from Kicker? So your saying it's not an LED reset button, it's actually a reset button for the amps internal crossovers, settings, etc...? Why would the reset button be next to the LED controls? It seems easy to press by accident. A tiny button or one you need a paperclip to press might be a better choice to avoid accidental presses. Why do the mono block amps have the same reset button when their controls are all manual (no Control Center functions)?
@@JasonWW2000 The position had do do with the layout of the circuit board. It would not have worked in another location without redesigning the entire board layout. The good thing is it is not a press once to reset, you have to hold it down for 10 seconds and that should make sure it does not get reset by accident. The reset on the sub amps is to reset LED back to factory red color and just like any computer or head unit, its there for reset or diagnostics if something in the microprocessor goes haywire. I doubt it would be used but just in case so it could be easily user reset. The crossovers and Kick Eq are DSP based and will immediately reset back to where the front panel controls are set.
Really, reallyyyyy digging this! This seems like the upgrade from say a pioneer d9705d. Im just curious what the price gets announced at. Would not be surprised to see 599$ msrp or higher.
It's about time somebody offered a "Control Center" to adjust your amp instead of using a stupid cell phone. Still don't own one. And I'm still alive, imagine that. With todays tech every amp should something like a "Control Center" and/DSP. Even if the DSP works through your cell phone. That should be standard on most decent amps. You can get a DSP circuit for $15 off TEMU.
I wish someone would make a 5 channel that does 250w x 4ch @ 2ohms and 1ch doing 4k @ 1ohm. I know SMD has one thats close...but still a little lacking for the subs. Id get one for each vehicle I have.
I think KICKER makes these for people who just want basic updated bass and not window shaking style. @drewjohnson4794 No, they're not going to be that expensive. But they are going to be full DSP amps so they're not going to be cheap. But RF is expensive because they're high quality. I got no problem paying for that.
Thank you Thank You Thank your to kicker. Beautiful and innovative. (Even though the control center should be an on hand’s device)😢 This is what I’ve been waiting on! Hello JP👋- are you listening? Looks like a Fosgate amp if they got off their asses and did something for a change lol, anyway Kicker and Fosgate make the best amps hands down and their subs well not so much. Not sure about JL amps never had one but they make the best subs i know all opinion "arguable" i banged MTX and Kicker subs in the 90's mainly only the well off had the real deal Orion and JL back in the day!
@@JasonWW2000 That is great to hear! most of their current designs are over 10+ years old be nice to see these big dogs answer back to JP's Budget amps and their amazing bass remote. We're seeing Kickers can't wait for Fosgate.
@gordonhood5902 Im a fan of Rockford's amps, but I don't know if I will continue to be when their new models come out. They might be going too extreme. I'm trying to reserve my judgment until we know more.
700w? around 50amps [allowing for internal and wiring losses] at 14.4, 70v from 12v, takes a boost converter, ohms don't really matter in voltage conversion
Very nice looking amp, and seems to perform very well. The remote being the only way to adjust the settings will become an issue later. We all know how hard it is to replace remotes down the line,. I broke my JP8's remote gain thing, Not even sure how to go about replacing it. Just an example. Thanks for doing what you do...
Wow this has bags of power in reserve, in real world (ie not with all channels loaded by resistors) I'm guessing it would have even more available for the sub channel, with less overall stress on the power supply.
maybe not everyone wants extreme high power setups? [ie ~1.5kw mains and 3~10+kw subs] or has very limited space, like a kei car, smart fortwo or the newer fiat500s? many trucks, especially single-cabs also don't have a lot of room for very large high-power rigs without making them dedicated basshead rigs or at the least killing some usability.

Kicker has really stepped up their product development, this is a super impressive system setup.
Stepped up?
They've been an industry leader for decades.

Agreed!
would love for you to test the Onkyo X-T4 car amp :)
Better run this on the quad box
What was the efficiency?
I've been meaning to ask, these newer amps of the last 10 years with remote connections, those RJ connectors, is the cable just a CAT cable?
In most cases they are CAT5 or CAT5e cables

But do it bump doe?
2nd part with the additional tests and bass knob / controller info

What about the mono block ones
Where do you get one ?
Probably better to say "ethernet style" cable. That's barely a Cat3. It's not twisted. I usually replace these flat cables with a real Cat5e TP patch cable because you don't get interference noise like you would with a flat cable.
This is all switched in the digital domain. No audio passes through the Cat5 cables. There is no chance for added noise.

700w? around 50amps [allowing for internal and wiring losses] at 14.4, 70v from 12v, takes a boost converter, ohms don't really matter in voltage conversion
My guess on the price is $799.
Ooooo wooooow! Psh.... Enough with the fluff Derek. Your a bit biased since you have buddies at Kicker.
Wow this has bags of power in reserve, in real world (ie not with all channels loaded by resistors) I'm guessing it would have even more available for the sub channel, with less overall stress on the power supply.
Why is Kicker building these entry level amps? I wouldn't waste my $$ on such lil watts.
maybe not everyone wants extreme high power setups? [ie ~1.5kw mains and 3~10+kw subs] or has very limited space, like a kei car, smart fortwo or the newer fiat500s? many trucks, especially single-cabs also don't have a lot of room for very large high-power rigs without making them dedicated basshead rigs or at the least killing some usability.
lol the 666 on the sub channel and the company has roots in Christian faith. Sorry Steve! 🤣
Man, I wanna like Kicker...but I just can't.
I'm guessing $2000
