- How to paint Gutters. In this video I will show the technique on how to paint gutters using a brush. One of the biggest things when painting gutters is the weather conditions, you don;t want to paint gutters when its too hot.

Cracking vids. I been a follower for years all the way from n ireland. Wish we could get rota cota brushes here in uk. R local home diy store are now stalking monarch brushes from australia but i havent used any. Quite a large range. Are they a big brand down under?

It depends on what paint you are going to be using, I suggest you read the instructions on the can as different products may require a etch primer.

Great instrucanal video; My question , is their a rule of thumb if the exterior walls are simi gloss , do the rain gutters and eaves also need to be simi gloss, ...or is it OK to paint the Eaves in a gloss, rain gutters simi, All three are different colors,
Its up to you, it's what the customer wants. personally I use low sheen on just about everything but the final call is the customers.

Try to avoid any additives but they can help on hot days and I think Penetrol does help paint stick.

Hey mate can you use water based over existing oil based gutters? Mine have faded and I want to freshen them up. That’s if they are oil based haha. Lady at Bunnings said if it’s oil based if you wipe with terms it will shine. If water based it will rub off
You can paint over old oil based paints but you will need to sand the surface first and use an undercoat. The women at Bunnings was correctish, turps won't soften oil based paint but it will soften the acrylic which will come off with lots of rubbing.

Gday mate, from my research it sounds like enamel is better for gutters as it’s more durable and glossy but what’s your take? I know you used acrylic in this video though. I will be painting the gutters grey too. Cheers, from Perth!
When I first started my apprenticeship we only ever used oil based paint on gutters and fascia's. The issue with oil based paint is that it goes chalky after a while and also cracks as it gets older. Acrylics however are more flexible and hold their colour better then oil paints, I have seen gutters painted with acrylic paint still looking good after 10 years.

Depending on your wing span, know that shift weight to either far side of a ladder can result in a fall. Keep both feet three inches apart in the middle to keep the center of gravity. Otherwise, get a spotter to help.

Yes, gutters were sanded, primed then had a light sand.

how much paint would I need to do OG gutters on an average 3 bedroom house ? How about the eaves underneath ? (they're painted white and are around 550 wide)
Gutters on a house is normally about 2 litres and eaves about 15 lts. Every house varies so that is a rough guide.

I got white gutters & am REGRETTING not getting black or Brown gutters.... ANY dark color just looks better
It's up to you what you like, dark grey or almost black is common at the moment but brown is not so trendy but as I said it's up to you what you like.

my gutters look like the paint is just coming off... i did not use sandpaper to clean them. i used a nice soft brush to clean them with scrubbing bubbles and fantstik bleach 5 and 1 cleaner..i did read directions , says it would remove mold.. made them look new and shiney..
Cleaning is one part the other is to make sure the paint sticks, either a etch primer if new gutters or a light sand if they are colourbond,

It will depend if they are colourbond or bare metal but a good exterior acrylic will work fine once you have primed bare metal.

I use big fat dripping roller to apply fast and brush finish

Since I can't always choose what part of the day I have to paint something, I blast the paint on with a weenie roller, then brush it out quick like. It's quick, looks good and doesn't peel or flake off.
Its true you can't always choose the prefect time but you can try to plan the job a little.

Is it necessary to paint with a second coat or is one coat sufficient?
Depends on colour. Sometimes one coat will fully cover the old colour. Let your first coat dry & inspect it. You may get away with one coat, or you may see the old colour showing through meaning a second coat is required
For external surfaces it is best to do two coats, it will last longer.

I call laying off blending. It’s just a way to make sure there is no distinct line from one batch to another.

If you only did one coat it might appear a bit streaky but after a second coat it should be fine.

Lake View use a 100mm Microfiber Roller 10mm nap. Way quicker and no brush marks and the finish looks like it’s sprayed. Brushing gutters is what they did back in the Stone Age
@@ozdog4218 wrong on all fronts. rolled paint looks.. rolled. how do u suggest u roll up to an edge? just smash it in there? this is the sort of work real trades people get called back for to fix. cowboy's have no place on a job sites. what profile of gutters? on 125D (which is rounded) a roller would make a fine mess.
In my neighbor were i live, nobody paints their gutters . I never have seen this yet. i have been cleaning my gutters FOR the last 6 years. its 2020, my house was built in 2006 -i have with Aluminum gutters , i have been using scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner foaming bleach, plus Fantastik 5 AND 1 ... This stuff would make the gutters --really shiny and look new.. Started to clean these gutters after the house was built in 2006 - the gutters started to look like crap in ( 2014, So I started to remove the MOLD AND DIRT IN 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 WITH THE PRODUCTS I MENTIONED --SCRUBBING BUBBLES + FANTASTIK Bleach 5 AND 1... Now in the year of 2020 the paint is wearing off all of the sudden .... This must be normal, You buy gutters for your new home in 2006 and do the right thing clean --the Aluminum gutters-- wash them off with power washer then the paint starts to wear off.. NICE ...
THE LOWES AND HOME DEPOT PRODUCTS ZEP, GREASE LIGHTING , OUTDOOR CLEANER THE ONE YOU ATTACH TO YOUR HOSE, WHAT A JOKE, KRUD GUTTER CLEANER, AND ALL THE REST OF THESE SHIT PRODUCTS NOTHING WORKED BUT THE (Fantastik Bleach 5 and 1)
this tuff removed the mold good , spray on for 5-8 mins scrub with a long brush, then power wash clean with a lot of water.. NOW THE PAINT IS STARTING TO WEAR OFF....IS THIS NORMAL....
Paint will only last about 10 years on any house and can only last a few years in extreme conditions. If your paint is starting to wear after 14 years I would consider this as normal. Try not to use strong chemicals when cleaning painted surfaces, a mild detergent should be enough to remove dirt and there are mold cleaners that work without having to scrub the surface.

100mm Microfibre 10mm nap roller way quicker better finish by far. And the way you brushed the face I bet if you went back there would be runs from the over flows.
No runs, I'm a trained professional and brushing is a far better finish then rolling.

Depends on the paint you are going to use, some are self priming, make sure you read the instructions on the paint you are going to use.

So paint about "a meter at a time", why not just say a couple of feet, the imperial system is some much easier to use and understand as it relates to the Human experience! Good tips.
I still use both measures as my dad would always use imperial but Australia changed to metric while i was at school. There are only 3 country using the imperial system.
