Something I would do if I love the game and I wanted to platinum, depending on the requirements I would take a massive break from the game (couple of months or years) then return to attempt the platinum so I don’t end up getting sick of it quickly and I would have a blast attempting the platinum but games that requires extreme time dedication like red dead or gta or Valhalla is not worth it, the torture is not worth it.
Re the mental health, I determined what my goal was - what type of collection I wanted, after that there was never any problem. If you only want everything 100% then you'll have to deal with the consequences you talked about in this video. If you want every trophy that exists and be at the top of trophy leaderboards you'll have to deal with the consequences of that goal. I decided that I don't care about completion percentage, I don't care about trophy level, I don't care about how many platinums I have, what I care about is my list having what I believe are good quality games, and i'll attempt to plat them. If it's not fun to work on it, I won't. I popped my first trophy june 2009, first plat jan 2010, got my account permabanned in 2014 for experimenting with jailbreaking - I didn't realise the consequences. I lost 5 years of trophies and spent the next 5 years not even looking at another trophy. I gave up. That was too much for me. Finally in 2019 I realised wait a minute, just because I lost 10 years of progress, why can't I just start over again now? As a result of losing my account and turning my back on trophies, when I started again fresh in 2019, I found what I loved again. And my experience in losing progress made me feel super patient and able to just know when to quit either if I didn't like a game or no longer wanted to play it. I put 3000 hours into GTAV before unlocking the platinum. I'm still only 92% because I can't be bothered to do the Doomsday Heist. My friends all stopped playing and I don't enjoy that aspect of the game doing heists with randoms, so I'm not going to do it. Sometimes it takes a cold hard think about priorities to leave something alone. I want those Doomsday trophies, but only if it will be fun to do it with friends. If and when that day comes, then I will do it. If that day doesn't come, I'm not doing it with randoms. I'm at peace with the 92%
The newer RE games are really fun to platinum/100% because most of the trophies gives you new tools to play with in-game to make it more fun. And some trophies pushes you to play the game in ways you probably wouldnt have done if not for the trophies. Replaying the game so many times works in this case because when you play it on repeat playthroughs you realise that the game is pretty short if you know what to do. Online trophies are the absolute worst ones and can definatly ruin a game.
I disagree. This new RE4 Remake makes you finish the game like 5 times. Good lord, imagine finishing a big game like that 5 times, even if you rush it's a big pain in the butt. For me a good platinum is finish once on normal, finish once on hard and that's it.
@@masonhunt4941 I'm trying to go for DMC 5. But I can't play it for longer than an hour, I get really bored. It's especially annoying since you have to play the game a minimum of 6 times. Also S ranking a mission is so confusing because the new style point system is *FUCKING AWFUL*
I think maybe this speaks to a larger problem with the trappings of a trophy hunter mentality, like people feeling the need to platinum everything they play, or only play games they can platinum and ignore everything else (even if they really want to play it). We’ve all been there before, but I always try to remind myself that trophies should never supersede fun and enjoyment of gaming. Fun always comes first.. Quite simply put, you shouldn’t be pushing yourself to pursue trophies if you aren’t enjoying it. There’s also other things you can do to combat tedium and fatigue. For example, I actually just finished a 200+ hour platinum last night that most people would find incredibly tedious, but I loved every second of the journey. Why? Because I spread it out over several months. I played & platinumed other games in between whenever I felt like it, and sometimes I took breaks from trophy hunting/gaming entirely for a few days at a time. If you don’t push yourself past the point of enjoyment, it won’t feel tedious and mentally exhausting, it remains fun and fresh the way it should always be. Just my 2c
I had a similar experience with RDR2. Was pretty done with it after completing the story. Returned to it months later to platinum and loved it. Would lowkey platinum it again. It's a strange thing
I also spread out the time between platinum or trophy hunting for several months on end and taking days off from gaming as I feel I would be burned out or just not interested in the game anymore, (not doing it intentional, just something I do regularly) I want to keep having fun with the games I have and not go for chasing platinums or trophies that I don't want or like doing, waste of time really.
A good rule to follow is to only collect trophies on a second playthrough, and only if the game is great. Otherwise you are basically working for the game.
@@chantier24 Not for everyone. Many gamers are working adults with families who don't have the time we used to in our teens or university days. It's a waste of time to do an extra playthrough if you have a backlog of games.
oh for sure i need to apply myself this rule with new game just play story for first time the way you want them and after that go for trohpy that way you can enjoy story first and after you are done go for platium
Didn't expect this video to be so good and assertive. You talked about all the main points and problems in terms of trophy hunting and it's a good reminder for everyone, including myself.
I've had a love/hate relationship with trophies over the years. I used to check the trophy list before I started a game and if the difficulty was too hard I wouldn't even start it. This caused me to miss out on a few great games just because I knew I wouldn't be able to get the platinum. This all changed when I was playing Saints Row Gat out of Hell, I was youtubing the collectibles but hated every minute and just thought why am I doing this. Now I play whatever games I fancy whether they are 9/10 or 2/10 difficulty because at the end of the day, no one really cares how many virtual trophies you have.
Trying to go for Platinum in a first playthrough of a game is a recipe for disaster and distracts your enjoyment of a game because you're focused on getting everything right the first time. I generally avoid Trophy guides on a first playthrough and just play the game blind to enjoy it to its fullest, though I do check the Trophy list for any online stuff.
Honestly, this just touched me and made me feel like giving trophy hunting another go remembering all the times i wanted to give up but somehow still platinumed a game.
I completely agree with Detroit: Become Human. Just started it 3 days ago but I looked at the trophies and once I saw that ALL of the trophies were missable, I’ve struggled to keep playing. Having so many paths to go down and so many trophies is just so overwhelming and I’m not sure if I can keep going for the platinum. Thinking about continuing Deathloop but the fear of losing all the weapons I have collected to a mine I didn’t see or Julianna killing me just kinda puts me off, but regardless I will platinum both games. They each have their enjoyable moments and both stories are unique and different from others.
I platted dbh when it came out and I really don’t remember it being that bad. The games chapter select makes it easy, just use a guide that tells you the most efficient way to go about it.
Funny thing actually, after posting this I started playing Deathloop and it’s really enjoyable. I only got 4 trophies left (including the Golden Loop Update ones) and Julianna isn’t really a threat to me anymore. Now an invasion is just a way for me to get more rewards and practice before I go for Clean-ish Hands (the trophy where you must kill all visionaries and no eternalists in a single loop). And I have tried to turn off Julianna invasions with Friends Only mode, but it keeps bringing in an AI so I put on Single Player Mode.
I finished my first playthrough on Detroit three days ago, now I'm going for the plat. I don't think it'll be that bad, I like to see different outcomes. but it's sad that I have to kill Connor over and over again
I relate to what you said in this video, there are times when i'm trophy hunting when it just feels so exhausting, annoying, and tedious. For example right now I'm currently going for the FF7 Remake platinum, I absolutely love the Final Fantasy franchise especially 7's universe. However for the last month or two it has felt like a chore to 100% the game, I've found myself drifting to different games to to try and avoid it all together, however I feel like I am unable to fully devote myself into the new games because I haven't 100% FF7 Remake. On the Brightside though I was finally able to beat the Pride and Joy Prototype which has been the main source of my problems for the last month or two so I feel like I am now one step closer in being able to platinum the game and overcome all of these downsides. (Great video by the way!)
I literally just got the platinum on FF7R a couple days ago and I relate about the pride a joy trophy I was probably stuck on that for at least a month and it was so frustrating since I only had that and the hard mode trophy left but it was so satisfying to finally finish it, especially when I beat sephiroth as Aerith with only 1 HP.
This was definitely a video that I need to watch, I’ve been mentally struggling lately about trophy hunting and comparing my account to other accounts on PSN profiles and thinking I’m not good enough to be a high rank
Great video! You explained it wondefully and I pretty much agree with everything you said. I love trophy hunting and have played some of the best games that I wouldn't have even played if it wasn't for my love of trophies.
I just wrote a script for achievements as a whole (it's gonna be like an hour or so long at least) and what you've said here is what I bring up. I love that you recognized that achievement hunters forget the reason for playing a game (just as achievement cheesers forget why the achievement exists in the first place). I also love that you also bring up that achievement hunting was something that got you into trying new games in the first place. That is a new perspective I didn't really think about. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and I love that we both had the idea of putting a "watched the video achievement" at the end. That was such a great video, bravo.
I love trophy hunting. Like you said, since getting serious about completing games, I have discovered some amazing games that I would have never even considered were it not for the platinum experience. I have also pushed myself to the limit. Completing games like Super Meat Boy and The Binding of Isaac have shown me what I am capable of if I put my heart and soul into something. The only two issues I have had with trophy hunting is becoming addicted to the cheap, easy, press x for platinum games. An addiction I am happy to say I have kicked. The second issue, which is still ongoing, is my inability to enjoy games without trophies. I used to be able to fire up my switch or my evercade and have a great time on Pokémon or Mario or some fun nes/snes games but now that I trophy hunt…if the hunt isn’t there….then the game ceases to be relevant. Thanks for an insightful and thought provoking video mate 😊
Yeah i completely agree. Was playing Breath of the wild on switch and was enjoying it. But I felt something was missing and got bored and eventually gave up.
I relate so much to this. I feel like I have a tendency in life to make things work, especially games. Like I need to do it the right way and that is completing the game in a certain order and platinuming it. I kind of feel like Trophy Hunting for me is like a form of OCD. I kind of have this same problem in like TV or books where things NEED to be done in a certain way or order while I should just realize fun is the main goal.
As someone with around 600 plats and no shovelware nothing hurt more than returnal. I had to grind biome 2 for close to 30 hours for the last log to spawn in
Mad respect for no shovelware at that level. That puts you in very elite company. There’s very few people with that many trophies who haven’t padded their list with tons of shovelware and stacks.
Huge props for the No shovelware policy. I would love to scroll through your profile to find new gems in case you wouldn’t mind sharing that here. Regardless, one BIG bravo, Sir. 🤝
@Joe bt thank you! Account is currently suspended as I moved countries and they assumed I'd been hacked which sucks. Generally my shortest plat is astro playroom I believe. But I've done all gtas, every rogue like/lite around. All ubisoft games pretty much except valhalla ( fuck that game) haha
I've decided to do these "collectathons" in multiple sessions, I play around 3 games at a time to avoid burnout, even though my backlog is enormous 😹. But I enjoy gaming so much now because I allow myself to enjoy games and accomplish my trophy hunting goals
The worst is when you play a game that you really came to love and because of some tedious trophies, the game ends up becoming resented. Detroit was the best example, loved the experience and the story but as soon as one pixel of that platinum notification come up, I was out and the game was deleted 😂
Absolutely agree with you I used to play only 1 or 2 games mainly fps , then feelings of satisfaction of getting trophies made me explore more generas I wouldn't try before. Then the unfortunate status now that before starting new game I have to look for the trophies guide and see if it's obtainable and if not most of the time I drove away like wolfenstien games most of the souls etc It's a weird cycle 😂
As weird as it may sound, Trophyhunting used to ruin games for me. Whenever I played a game, it was with the goal of platinuming it and then never touching it again. It really ruined the fun of taking my time and actually enjoying the game. There were so many games that I rushed through just to get the platinum and then never play again. I still go for platinums occasionally but only for games that I really love such as Yakuza and Earth Defense Force. I try to play the game normally once, and then go back and obtain all the trophies on my next playthrough. For really long games like Yakuza, I will go out of my way to obtain missable trophies on the 1st playthrough but that's it. So yeah, I think trophyhunting is a great thing as long as obtaining the platinum isn't your 1 and only priority
I definitely relate to this. I love gaming and trophy hunting has exposed me to wonderful games I wouldn’t have played otherwise. It has reinvigorated my love for the medium and I have become increasingly passionate about it. However, I don’t have many platinums to my name quite yet. I sit at only 16 and feel the need to get more and more. I am always thinking about the next game to play and have a hard time enjoying the game I’m playing. This feeling leads me to anxiety and can take away from the game I am currently playing.
Great video man! Yeah, the biggest thing when trophy hunting is to make sure it’s a game that you enjoy! Whether it’s a 4 minute plat or a 100 hour plat, it’s gotta be fun for you. That’s how I’ve been tackling it and I’ve had a much better experience making sure that I’m playing a game I actually want to play instead of something I feel I need to play. I actually stopped planning out my next platinum trophy cause I never know what I’ll be in the mood for when I finish my current game 😆. And I’ll even come back to a game I’ve platinumed before to do it again (via remaster or PS5 upgrade or something), just because I’m feeling nostalgic or it was a fun time. When enjoyment takes priority, platinum trophy hunting just gets a lot better! 😄
It surely is the problem. I started trophyhunting back in 2016. And my first like 10 platinums were those games I pretty much liked. But now... now I start only those games I can platinum, those that don't take much time or effort and so on. It's kinda wrong, because gaming should always be about joy, competition, challenge, emotions, but not the feeling of completing every game. Recently I've platinumed Avengers, not that bad game, but there are a lot of irritations in this game, and I've spent 60 hours on just a grindy process. That is why, I think we should reconsider going after platinums, and try whatever game you may like, but platinum only those that you truly like and the desire to platinum it comes from within.
Man I love this video, trophy hunting is truly a double edged sword with an honestly easy fix. Trophy lists should be more a play all the stuff or master the game. It’s honestly why I enjoy doing some games that are online MP trophies. I’ll used my latest platinum Evil Dead as an example, it was mainly a play and enjoy all aspects of the game to unlock the trophies. A collectable trophy turns me off games very fast. I loved the Witcher 3 until I had to force the last 3 trophies. Now I can barely want to touch it to play the dlc
I feel your pain on Valhalla. When a game has a gazillion more collectables than really necessary, I feel personally attacked by the devs. (I'm only half-joking)
I earned my first Platinum trophy in 2015 which was Until Dawn. My trophy hunting really picked up in 2020 during the pandemic. Today I have 278 Platinum trophies and hoping to get to 300 Plats by the end of the year. I am on a little hiatus after grinding out the trophies on my latest Platinum which was Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories!
What I started doing is using a secondary profile on my PlayStation to just play the games I don't want associated with my main account. All games (even PS+ games) from the main account can be accessed by all other users on the same PlayStation.
is for sure rewarding getting that platium trophy but also that grind can ruin games for you as story wise for me i have goal to get specific number of platium and once i get that number of plat gonna stop trophy hunting for while so i can focus mostly on story but if i wanna continue i need to focus first on story and play as i want it for sample detroit become human i should i have play first my way and then go for trophys after !
Play to your heart’s content.Don’t force yourself to play. What you could do is pace yourself. For example what I did for Ragnarok was complete one map section and then the next day I work on the next section. I usually play Valorant or another game.
Great video! I pretty much agree with everything you said. You never want it to feel like a job when you're going for trophies You want it to be part of the fun of the game. A side thing, not the main thing to go for If you treat them like that, just like a bonus, you'll never get burnt out although you won't get a platinum in every game you play and some games you won't get very many trophies, but that's the point of it. Like you said at the beginning It's supposed to be for only games you love
Bro im honestly addicted to trophy hunting, i cant stop myself from platinum any game i start no matter how tedious it is, I had more fun with games before.
I can relate with literally everything you said I also absolutely loved Detroit become human and thought of going back to platinum it last week but I couldn’t stand the idea of hating that game and draining me now as I was really tired I just got my 100th platinum this week and decided to quit gaming as a whole cause those platinums drained me too much I didn’t mind difficulty trophies and all but the collectibles part made me decide not to just quit trophy hunting but gaming also
I think the ones that can ruin a game for me are the trophies that almost require you to be the best in the world. It's a common issue with a lot of shoot em ups (which are my favorite games). Like, getting a Platinum in Akai Kitana and Deathsmiles will never happen. The score requirements are nuts. Which for me should be doable. I have top 5 leader board rankings in several of these games... but nope.
Jesus... Watching your video made me realize how much time of my life I lost xD but hey, the plat is there. Sure there were tedious trophies but RDR2 and Returnal were one of my best experiences in 30 years of gaming. I think it's just a matter of balance. With this I mean playing one or 2 games where you don't worry about trophies and after that play one that will make you lose your patience. Keep up with the good content!
I have the Detroit become human Plat I use to be addicted to that game to the point of speedrunning it somehow XD, but Detroit does need dedication to get 100% but I do encourage you to try to get it, seeing the different endings and choices you never picked is amazing to see! And once you get to the end and see the platinum it’s so refreshing
Currently on my Witcher 3 platinum journey but I definitely see where your coming from because as much as I’m loving it I also feel trapped. It’s like I’m restricting myself from playing any other game unless it’s an online multiplayer one.
That was very interesting. My own experience is I've never been much of a trophy hunter. I'm an end credits guy. I also only ever play 1 game at a time. I will replay games multiple times occasionally but never for trophy hunting. Always because I want to live in that world again.
It's such a weird addiction to Platinum. I found that I was playing mediocre stuff just to Platinum it, and not replaying older stuff because I did Platinum it. Nowadays, I try to say screw it. The experience is what matters. And I'll Platinum it only if it is streamlined to Platinum like Ghost of Tsushima or Spider-Man.
I’m an avid trophy hunter, but i do draw lines, dishonoured trials of dunwall does live rent free in my head, but i’m not playing 100hrs of challenges to unlock 5 bronze and silver trophies. I find trophy collecting fun- if it isn’t- what’s the point. I’m
I guess all I can say is this...if you no longer enjoy trophy hunting, then stop. Whether long term or momentarily, stop. Trophy hunting is just a hobby, not an obligation. If you are feeling burnt out or are not enjoying it anymore, don't force yourself to continue. At the end of the day, we are playing games to enjoy them. Many of us may add additional challenges or goals on top of that (be it speedrunning, challenge runs, trophy hunting, etc) but we shouldn't let those activities become the focus over just enjoying the experience of playing a game. Not every game is suitable for trophies. And even the games that are, the trophy requirements themselves might not be good either. If trophies are becoming too much to do, don't do them. Just play the game until you feel satisfied and then move on. It's a bit trickier if it's become an addiction, as it certainly has for some, so it's best to try to start taking steps to separate yourself from it. Take breaks if you have to. Just finished getting a platinum? Take 1-2 days off from trophy hunting to do other stuff and refresh. Multiple long breaks. As with any hobby we love doing, focusing too much on it for too long can induce burn out. It's all about moderation and remembering why we enjoy playing in the ways we do.
woah you are relatable asf, i hit 100 plats yesterday, and I thought about why it even matters... But it feels like it would be funnier to plat multiple games, rather than just play some half asrsed. Even tho its getting tedious too. Sometimes I decide to not play a game now just cuz the plat looks impossibly long, like death standing.
Having a (new) job is also a struggle in regard to gaming. Always feeling too sleepy and exhausted for gaming which makes me sad. I can imagine having children or other duties makes it even harder to keep on gaming regularly. But maybe it’s also a chance to cherish gaming again not reducing to tedious trophy hunting every single day as it used to be before?
I started working on the platinums for the arkham games but the combat and predator challenges i just cannot beat, hopefully i manage to come back and beat it in the future since the story and open world is brilliant
Recently been thinking a lot about collectables in games. They are mostly not fun for me but my mind just keeps pushing me to collect them, so to balance it i want to try to collect all the possible things for example in one region of the game world and then decide is it worth it do to the same in all the regions? I really enjoyed collecting backpacks in Spider Man 2018 for exmaple, they give a good amount of interesting insight to Peter's life before the game starts and they are easy enough to collect.
i started collecting achievements on xbox 360 around 2007 and migrated on ps4 in 2016 and became completely addicted to platinums. happily i managed to kind of shake it off about two years ago now i can play games i know i wont platinum and still enjoy them and iplatinum games when i feel like it but it has taken its toll on my mental health and it destroyed any kind of coop between me and my 2 friends i use to play with and compare trophies as it kind of became an unhealthy competition without us realising. two of us have changed our way and are pretty equal around 150 platinums but the other has just dropped his playstation completely for two years now
I consider online trophy to be a crime against humanity. You know full well that at some point the online is gonna shut down and it will be lost forever 😤
I think the most important thing about games is enjoyment, i only go for platinums if the trophies are appealing to me. I know of people who buy games because it is an easy plat, not because the game is fun but only to make a number go higher. Games are supposed to be entertainment and played how you like to play them. And it’s easy to say maybe but don’t turn it into work. If you don’t feel like doing something in a game, you don’t have to do it.
I did go through my phase of explicit trophy hunting back in 2018 or 2019 for a few months. Before that I never really paid attention, but nowadays I just play games that I like, and once completed a regular playthrough, I’ll check to see if the platinum is doable, if it is, I do it. Simple and frustration free that way, it works for me. My latest one was Stray, I went back to complete after finding out it’s leaving PS+ Extra on the 18th. I won’t lie I did let the Detroit: Become Human platinum get to me, and I grinded to complete it a few months back. But a bit of effort for a game you love can be worth it once every year or two. Otherwise I chill with story driven games, and either FIFA or CoD in between.
I've never 100% a game before. Be it getting a platinum, getting all the gamer points, or getting all the achievements. Once upon a time I tried it with the Batman Arkham games. I'm a huge Batman fan and deeply enjoyed those games, and the desire to do everything was strong. The issue was, as soon as I started trying to 100% the game it became a chore. I wasn't playing the game anymore to have fun and enjoy myself. I was doing tedious tasks that brought me no fun just so I could 100% a game. I'm not saying I share this kind of stuff being in games, but the second I tried to do this and it turned not just a franchise I love, but a game I deeply enjoyed, into a soul sucking chore. I realized it wasn't for me.
I used to play any game really and just go for the plat. I was head on with the trophies. I enjoyed some of them but mostly i put myself through grindy and tedious games which made me hate most of the games i played and i got burnt out. I currently have 84 plats and honestly the games i really enjoy must be 20-30 of them. I stopped caring about the number and the grind in general. If it ain't a game i love i won't plat it. The game that broke me and made me quit this habbit was ghostwire tokyo. This game is so borringly grindy that made me wake up(never got the plat for it , fuck this game). Now i just hunt the games i WANT and love. It ain't worth the time boys.Unless you get paid for it.
Platinum hunting for me started when I beat the final boss within a few weeks. I game a lot so it can be an expensive hobby when I finish a game so quickly. So I started trophy hunting. But I always ignore the trophies in my first playthrough. And luckily 9 out of 10 times I’m enjoying the games I play. And it’s ok to play a game twice for the trophies. But now I’m unlucky. I always wanted to play the game Prey (2017). Yes the game is good, but a few things are a gamebreaker for me. I’m not going into details. So that’s one thing. Second, I have to beat the game like 4 times. Yes there is a way with smart use of manual saves to do it in 2,5 playthroughs and using a good guide, but I don’t like that. I finished the game 1 time now and I’m not looking forward to play it 2,5 times again. Yes I beat the game once, but I still have to go for 2,5 playthroughs for the platinum. I did too much wrong in my first playthrough.
The only thing I hate about trophy hunting is online trophy requirements I was gonna go after shadow of war but it has an online trophy but the online servers got shut down.
If you haven't tried it yet, Dead Island 2's plat is easy and no nonsense, just play with a friend and do the side quests while doing the main story and boom, platinum. I got it this past weekend and was PLEASANTLY surprised it was a no-nonsense plat that doesnt require you to complete every challenege and pick up every journal. Also you dont really need to play with a friend, but you need to complete 5 quests and get 5 revives for plat, PLUS there's matchmaking so you don't actually need a friend/psnprofiles. And of course, it's also very fun. But I completely agree with the burnout. I need a massive break between openworld/collectible plat games.
The next year I will complete the 10th Year of my trophy hunting and I agree 100% with you that's why I never reached 100 trophy I just got 60 because I only do what I love and when I think am playing for the platinum I just stop playing
My first platinum was Jurassic: The Hunted in 2011 after realizing I only had a small amount of trophies left after my first playthrough so I decided to give it a try and I've been trophy hunting ever since. That said though, every platinum I've gotten since have all been in games that I had a lot of fun playing and/or the game had a simple trophy list. I rather have fun trophy hunting than getting burnt out
I got my first platinum accidentally on Black Ops2. I had played the campaign so many times that I got all the collectibles and challenges done, did Veteran difficult for fun and joined a public game where other people did the Tranzit Easter egg and it just popped.
After many years of collecting Achivements and trophies, I finally had to give up on them. It got to the point that I was playing while video guides were going on the phone so I could Platinum the game quickly. I decided to take a break and play Starfield with the Achivements disabled and I was having fun. Prior to that, I was playing the Ps3 all year while ignoring my awesome Ps5 games just to trophy hunt. I've since disabled trophy notifications too. I don't even want to trophy hunt or achievement hunt in games I love cause I know it will just suck me back into the hobby. I'm 30 now, married, and have a full time job. I don't have the free time I did as a teenager. I don't want to waste it anymore on digital "accomplishments".
At this point, I only platinum games I really love. Probably my favourite so far is Elden ring. Every trophy felt like a satisfying achievement and even the collectibles felt fun to collect since I was doing the side quests anyway and ended up with a very nice sword collection
Honestly, the main reason i found out people dont trophy hunt is cause of collectibles, but i have always found them enjoyable, i put on a show or youtube series i want to catch up on and watch that as i relax and collect in game objects, its just my opinion but i find it really relaxing (i did all the GTA V collectibles over a week and managed to catch up on so many amazing shows) I also have to share my PS5 with my brother so after a day of collectible / trophy grinding i then have a day to play with friends online, so that definitely helps me power through long games aswell, as after a day im looking forward to it again
I play games I'm interested in, sometimes I don't even look at the guides until after I've played for a while. If a guide indicates a plat is very complicated (lots of misssables, etc) or that it will take 5 playthroughs, etc. it usually just releases me so that I can forget about the trophies and just get whatever I get until I'm satisfied with the game. My favorites are games without missables, that way I can focus on playing the game and if I feel like I still enjoy it enough to go for the plat after another 10-20 hrs, I will likely do it. It all depends on how much I love playing a game vs. how much time it will take to plat. And I normally stay away from those utra simple platinum games, unless it's a game I feel I will also enjoy playing, even if it will only last for a couple hours. I prefer my plats reflect the games I personally love. Games first, trophies second.
I have 7 platinum trophies my first was sly 2 remastered on the ps3, my latest was the Uncharted legacy of thieves collection, the one I’m most proud of was Red Dead Redemption 1. Let me tell you a LOT of time was put into collecting those trophies 🏆
Bro just said out loud exactly what i am feeling since i started my trophy hunter's way... Have you ever starting to doubt yourself? I mean the ''what am i doing with my life and why am i spending my time for trophies'' thing?
Best platinums for me are wolfenstein the new order, doom 2016, doom eternal etc...gameplay-oriented with reasonable number of collectibles, with level selection and with CHALLENGES thats keep you playing the game because is FUN
I'm not a trophy hunter myself. Stopped going for 100% achievements/platinum years ago now, i do get all the trophies in some games that i already have pretty much every trophy in to finish it if it is attainable or if i really love the game.
That's mainly why I stick to the PS Vita for trophy hunting. A lot of platinum trophies nowadays are really grindy and it would be a slog for me to trophy hunt on other consoles. I have less free time for video games nowadays especially since I just got done with my exams. I'll be catching up on my PS Vita backlog later this month.
One of the games I want to platinum someday is Monster Prom, it’s this dating sim that’s pretty fun to play. The worst part is, to platinum it you basically have to experience the entire game. As it’s made for multiplayer, there over 500 different events and outcomes to get and well I’m not sure I want to play this game that much, because it’d ruin it for me. I’d know everything about the game, how to min max it, it wouldn’t be fun it’d just be a choice of whether I wanted to win or lose.
A month or two after the new lords of the fallen came out, I was one playthrough and ab 4 trophies from 100% (after 2 playthrough already) decided to take a break before finishing, I come back and there's ab 12 more added achievements, gave up on that one, more than 3 playthroughs is too much for me personally
I think its ideal to have games you enjoy regardless, however I have the same problem where I want to platinum every single game I touch. At first it works but I get burnout sometimes, so what I do now is pick three games and I rotate among those three. It also helps if the genres are different too.
I like getting platinums on games I really love. Like Shadow of the Colossus, Elden Ring and Final Fantasy games. But generally I don’t care about trophy hunting. My problem is that most platinums require you to do tedious tasks and it turns the game into a checklist/walkthrough. I just can’t enjoy games like that at my own pace
Like has been emphasized, fun is main driving force / reason to play game, get trophies, etc. However, maybe we are looking at it wrong. We are looking at it in a way that it needs to be fun, rather than just having fun with it. It may sound simple, but I think we have just got so caught up with day to day life that we forgot what it is like to have fun.
AC Valhalla is probably the most tedious and soul crushing game I have ever played so far. I platinumed AC Mirage and I am still not done Valhalla. I don't even think I will finish it anymore.
My recent platinum is a great example, i played heavenly bodies, i wouldnt even play this game in the first place because after i first started and i struggled in the first level for half an hour i deleted the game, cuz aint no way im struggling this hard ... then i come back later for the trophy's sake and i actually started enjoying the game. By the time i got the plat i was even kinda sad there are none left. Cuz i got better in the game and i wanted to play some more levels , but the game is so short :(
after i platinumed overwatch i just dont feel any joy or satysfaction from games and i open games and close them before even playing because it feels like a task to play
For me it was Astro Bots, which was around 3 years ago when I finally managed to get a PS5. 3 years later and I have 9 platinums. Today I platinumed God of War 2018, can not wait to play God of War Ragnarok!
Great video! I agree completely and this actually resonated with me. I don't trophy hunt much but ever since my first platinum with Far Cry 3, I did hunt for some platinum's solely for the numbers. Not the fun. Now I tend to only platinum games I really like. And I avoid looking at the trophy list until I complete the game Atleast once. Oh and fuck collectibles lol
I quit chasing the platinum for RDR2 because of the skinning animals one and the 100% which is ridiculous: you have to beat every challenge and some of them are RNG (Gambler’s). I can’t spend 20+ hours on boring stuff like that. Getting all the gold medals was fun, though.
Ghostwire Tokyo definitely was a game that tested my patience and i got sick of by the end. ive now learned to spread my games out and switch it up so i dont hate the games i play while going for platinums
Another thing I hate about ghost wire tokyo is the trophy that depends on your luck. I love the look, feel and mechanic of ghost wire. It's so unique and enjoyable initially but after completing the main story it ends up becoming a massive grind like you said and end up putting me off going back to it again.
You should definitely make a video on all the shovel ware that people buy just to obtain a quick and effortless platinum. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on them.
Trophies don't exist for me. I will play a game how I want and if I get trophies doing things, that's ok too. I was surprised to see a group dedicated to trophy hunting before. But if it allows you to maximize your purchase, go for it. Just don't burn yourself out in the process.
As a dad now I have a lot less time to platinum every game I own so I just do games that I really love. I did Cyberpunk recently and was absolutely miserable doing it as I felt I was wasting my limited time doing something I wasn’t enjoying. Now I’m just gonna do games I love.
I feel like the point about discovering games is a double edged sword at times. I mostly quit caring about trophy hunting as I fell into the trap of constantly looking at new games to play. Any game that seemed kinda good or interesting I was looking at the trophy list and adding it to my backlog. I bought old PS3 games to platinum them. I setup my vita with a bunch of games to platinum. I'd go to PSNprofiles and look at the new trophy lists that had just come out for some new games. I'm adding ten games of the same genre without even playing the best ones first. A lot of this was from boredom at work where I couldn't play games. Eventually though if you actually catalog the time it takes to complete all these games and get the platinum it could be months or years of playtime if the backlog grows. And if you have a job and responsibilities years of playtime could easily mean decades or more in real time. I was just giving myself a lifetime of extra work. So in the end I just said to hell with it all. I'll go back to it here and there but nothing like before. It does feel incredibly satisfying to overcome challenges and walk away feeling you completed every aspect of the game. I've even had some grindy games I put down for years only to finish them on a rainy day like 6 years later. But the real question is when you take away the platinum are you really keen to play that game? It's a really difficult question that trophy/achievement hunters should ask themselves because I began to realize that without achievements/trophies that I wouldn't play a lot of the games I was looking at buying or even bought. And once I figured that out any sort of stress or anxiety from "platinum hunting" or "backlog" went away.
My rules for platinum trophy: 1. No shovelware 2. A game i truly like and feel an emotional or nostalgic connection to. So far, i feel pretty satisfied.
For me, platinum hunters are in a constant repetitive and addictive cycle of completion. I almost fell for it but luckily i didn't became a platinum hunter because i value my time in a better way (even if some platinums like DMC4SE were a good reward for me before i broke that cycle). As for this cycle i was talking about, platinuming games for them is like succeeding virtual tests that brings no IRL reward, except being good at games. It releases dopamine in their brains, giving them the feeling of winning something big while doing real life tasks brings them nothing in their thoughts. They're just trapped in this problem and it's up to them to get out of it.
@@SANDREZZ Yeah just a hobby. I thought so too until they did this trophy thing and more and more gamers were flooding the gaming scene. Trophies make gaming into a commodity. I loved gaming as a niche activity most people avoided. But now every wannabe and hasbeen comes in hunting trophies. The games are not the hobby anymore. The trophies are.And that is insane. When game developers have become "trophy providers".
I play what i want & platinum what i want. Just recently got a PS5, so now i can play the PS5 Versions of games that gave both PS4 & PS5 Versions. In the span of a week i replatinumed the PS5 Versions of MLB 21, 22, 23 and Miles Morales Spider-Man.
I used to suffer through platinums until one day I found a channel that shows the easiest platinums to get. Some of them took mere minutes to get and cost only 1 or 2 dollars. After I realised this is now a lot of trophy hunters get their platinums I suddenly lost interest and now just play games I’m actually interested in. I have a goal of getting 50 platinums then that’s it, unless I really love the game enough to play through it again.
a weird theory but i think this also ties in with people who grew up without money. if you purchase a game and don’t end up finishing the entire game, there’s a feeling of guilt that you wasted your money on it. that’s why getting platinum feels fulfilling. but it should never be the goal unless you willingly spend your time on the game enjoying and exploring every aspect.
Bit of a different video today. Let me know your thoughts 👇🏼
I do have over 1000 plats alot of shovel ware plats thou I have some decent plats aswell. Great video mate 👍👍
I think developers should focus less on quantity. Less trophies, but make them extremely challenging and fun to get.
@BLACK 🇺🇸 MAN I do agree mate there was a few enjoyer ones mate
Currently going for KO City before the serversnshut down. It's pretty painful.
Totally agree
I disagree. This new RE4 Remake makes you finish the game like 5 times. Good lord, imagine finishing a big game like that 5 times, even if you rush it's a big pain in the butt. For me a good platinum is finish once on normal, finish once on hard and that's it.
I was gonna plat 7 and 8 but I hate having to replay games 4 games so I said fuck that
@@masonhunt4941 I'm trying to go for DMC 5.
You put it perfectly
I also spread out the time between platinum or trophy hunting for several months on end and taking days off from gaming as I feel I would be burned out or just not interested in the game anymore, (not doing it intentional, just something I do regularly) I want to keep having fun with the games I have and not go for chasing platinums or trophies that I don't want or like doing, waste of time really.
R6 siege is the only game that I've gotten platinum and played more than 50 hours(800+)
A good rule to follow is to only collect trophies on a second playthrough, and only if the game is great. Otherwise you are basically working for the game.
Best advice here
thats what i do. I did it with RE4 RE2 GOW R and much more
@@chantier24 Not for everyone. Many gamers are working adults with families who don't have the time we used to in our teens or university days. It's a waste of time to do an extra playthrough if you have a backlog of games.
@@zanfear I agree. If you lack time then you probably shouldn’t trophy hunt to begin with.
oh for sure i need to apply myself this rule with new game just play story for first time the way you want them and after that go for trohpy that way you can enjoy story first and after you are done go for platium
Didn't expect this video to be so good and assertive. You talked about all the main points and problems in terms of trophy hunting and it's a good reminder for everyone, including myself.
Thankyou 🙏🏻
I've had a love/hate relationship with trophies over the years. I used to check the trophy list before I started a game and if the difficulty was too hard I wouldn't even start it. This caused me to miss out on a few great games just because I knew I wouldn't be able to get the platinum.
This all changed when I was playing Saints Row Gat out of Hell, I was youtubing the collectibles but hated every minute and just thought why am I doing this.
Now I play whatever games I fancy whether they are 9/10 or 2/10 difficulty because at the end of the day, no one really cares how many virtual trophies you have.
🎯
@@JapaneseWithPJ nop. Still a sick way to go about it. Still the wrong mindset
@@JapaneseWithPJ that’s still an obsession with trophy hunting.
Should've just made a secondary account to play the games you don't want associated with your main account.
Greetings Lord Vader
I got platinum for DBH a few days ago and It was very jarring
I platted dbh when it came out and I really don’t remember it being that bad. The games chapter select makes it easy, just use a guide that tells you the most efficient way to go about it.
might be too late but theres a way to turn of julianna invasions in deathloop
Worse trophies are luck base ,grind and online.
online is worse imo
Like nu no kuni
Take away luck base and online and grind isn’t that bad. You can’t expect every plat to be just play the game earn the platinum I’ve learned that
I relate to what you said in this video, there are times when i'm trophy hunting when it just feels so exhausting, annoying, and tedious.
My biggest problem with this game is Jules kicking my ass 🙈
Thanks!
@@SANDREZZ yea man, I just added you to part of my script :D
Games not having trophies is a great point! I have a similar experience in that
Yeah i completely agree.
I had to grind biome 2 for close to 30 hours for the last log to spawn in
I feel you on that one
We only so much in this world there's zero good reason to put 30h for one single collectible
I've decided to do these "collectathons" in multiple sessions, I play around 3 games at a time to avoid burnout, even though my backlog is enormous 😹. But I enjoy gaming so much now because I allow myself to enjoy games and accomplish my trophy hunting goals
I wish I can have the same mentality as you
I have to finish one game by i5s own and one multi-player game besides
The worst is when you play a game that you really came to love and because of some tedious trophies, the game ends up becoming resented. Detroit was the best example, loved the experience and the story but as soon as one pixel of that platinum notification come up, I was out and the game was deleted 😂
Absolutely agree with you
I used to play only 1 or 2 games mainly fps , then feelings of satisfaction of getting trophies made me explore more generas I wouldn't try before.
Then the unfortunate status now that before starting new game I have to look for the trophies guide and see if it's obtainable and if not most of the time I drove away like wolfenstien games most of the souls etc
It's a weird cycle 😂
I can relate with literally everything you said I also absolutely loved Detroit become human and thought of going back to platinum it last week but I couldn’t stand the idea of hating that game and draining me now as I was really tired I just got my 100th platinum this week and decided to quit gaming as a whole cause those platinums drained me too much I didn’t mind difficulty trophies and all but the collectibles part made me decide not to just quit trophy hunting but gaming also
You'll be welcome back anytime brother
This vidio perfectly described what i was feeling but couldn't have put into words properly thanks for reminding me and other by this important vidio
I have top 5 leader board rankings in several of these games... but nope.
If I remember correctly, one of the Elder Scrolls games requires you to be #1 in the world for a trophy... like wtf
Yea that's bananas. There were a few 360 Era sports games with that. I guess only 5 people get to have it lol
@@SANDREZZ you need to be emporer in Elder scrolls online which is terrible grind or you have to pay for a group to carry you
I will at some point. Some point....
Currently on my Witcher 3 platinum journey but I definitely see where your coming from because as much as I’m loving it I also feel trapped. It’s like I’m restricting myself from playing any other game unless it’s an online multiplayer one.
That's exactly it
That was very interesting.
Bro you just got an insane video quality. Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Germany :)
Thank you 💙
I’m an avid trophy hunter, but i do draw lines, dishonoured trials of dunwall does live rent free in my head, but i’m not playing 100hrs of challenges to unlock 5 bronze and silver trophies.
I love how Astro was in the thumbnail despite being an incredibly easy platinum
Whatever makes you a happy man
all of my thoughts exactly! great video
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve not played a game due to the trophy list or time involved.
At this point, I only platinum games I really love. Probably my favourite so far is Elden ring. Every trophy felt like a satisfying achievement and even the collectibles felt fun to collect since I was doing the side quests anyway and ended up with a very nice sword collection
Honestly, the main reason i found out people dont trophy hunt is cause of collectibles, but i have always found them enjoyable, i put on a show or youtube series i want to catch up on and watch that as i relax and collect in game objects, its just my opinion but i find it really relaxing (i did all the GTA V collectibles over a week and managed to catch up on so many amazing shows)
I also have to share my PS5 with my brother so after a day of collectible / trophy grinding i then have a day to play with friends online, so that definitely helps me power through long games aswell, as after a day im looking forward to it again
I think every trophyhunter has thought of this at least once lol
So true and every time you have the platinum, the second after you uninstall/delete the game.
If you dont want to platinum or collect trophies , theres a way to disable trophies notification
My first platinum was DBZ Raging Blast 2 from like 13 years ago!! Since then ive been going on and off. Near my 400th plat!
AC Valhalla is probably the most tedious and soul crushing game I have ever played so far. I platinumed AC Mirage and I am still not done Valhalla. I don't even think I will finish it anymore.
I don’t do trophy hunting but for me when i play a game and reaches 70% of the trophys i always go ahead for the platinum
I completely understand the pain of ac valhalla platinum me myself just pushed the L3 forward in direction of collectible with phone in other hand
Ah yes I remember that took me a good while as well!
You should definitely make a video on all the shovel ware that people buy just to obtain a quick and effortless platinum. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on them.
Yep, definitely on my list of videos to make!
Cyberpunk wasn't enjoyable? I'm yet to check it out..
@@SANDREZZ The platinum experience was tedious as all hell and I didn’t enjoy the story pass a certain point
I resonate with this a little too well... Although I do hope I never fall out of love with trophyhunting.
The most important thing about gaming is how much you enjoy playing game and how long you have played that game..Trophies are waste of time
My rules for platinum trophy:
1. No shovelware
2. A game i truly like and feel an emotional or nostalgic connection to.
So far, i feel pretty satisfied.
I love roaming RDR & personally actual liked trying to find & hunt all animals.
They're just trapped in this problem and it's up to them to get out of it.
yea but it's just a hobby
@@SANDREZZ And a very-time consuming hobby when it comes to certain games.
Definitely plays a role. Good point.
