❤❤❤❤ My eternal idol. Neil Young is genius
Neil's guitar in this song has a unique tone because it is a singularly unique guitar. Old Black has been heavily modified over the years to the point where no other guitar sounds quite like it - that modified Gibson Les Paul has it's own Wikipedia entry. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Black
Cool, informative Wiki entry, thanks for sharing, mate. 😘🤙🎶❤️✨️🕊
Oh my Harri!!! This is my ATF Young song. So beautiful and raw!!! Thank you for the reminder! Makes my heart smile! 🥰
Yup his electric beats the lame wimpy boy top 40 acoustic
Only a Canadian boy can make those kind of noises come out of a guitar. King of grunge.
Except for Ted Nugent Detroit Muscle 🇺🇸💪. Neil Young, Jeff Hurley, Gordon Lightfoot, So many. Ronnie Montrose. Blackberry Smoke is carrying on. Get Tough America Canada 🙏
That sweet Les Paul named Old Black he's playing has been a big part of his sound.
Godfather of Grunge, Kurt Cobain is the King of Grunge
@@markwilliams5606
don't mention nugent in the same category as Neil Young. Two totally different types.
Neil Top 10 of all time.
nugent somewhere in the middle.
@@artvallejos1460 spot on
I just realized that all the grunge bands in the 90s were doing Neil Young -- look and all.
Thank you for this request Lance. I love just about everything Neil Young has done. His voice is so unique and amazing. In her musical memoir, Linda Ronstadt (who toured with Neil in the 70’s) described his voice as an “eerie, prairie-wind howl of a voice ~ a boy soprano fuel-injected with testosterone…an enduring pleasure”. I love that description. A wonderful song and great commentary by Harri 🌺✌️
A perfect and apt description!
😘🤙🎶❤✨️🕊
My favorite song by Neil.. his blowing hair is magnificent, many thanks for this one, we are all blown away by this beautiful song❤️💨🌬️🌀✌️
One of my favorites by Neil. Really super.
One of his best guitar solos. He could just go on and on.
No not one of his best....Ragged Gloru album has way better and Down By The River kills this as well as Souther Man from 4 way street which wimpy fan boys do listen to cause they got crappy taste
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Yeah, that version of "Southern Man" is amazing. You're right, there are others.
Neil carried me through my youth in the 70's & 80's. Always loved the man. The thinking mans muso.
I'm always impressed with the clarity of Neil Young's diction in his songs, even those recorded when he was clearly chemically enhanced. The words are almost always clear.
As well as the outstanding musicianship, cool presence and overall NY amazingness of course.
One ofmy favourite Neil Young songs!😃 love it❤️❤️❤️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This song and Harvest Moon are two of my favorite Neil songs. Fantastic!
HARVEST MOON sucks grow some
I like the version on Live Rust.... there is that one part where his voice really cracks when he says... I get so blown away. When I was a young teen.. I remember the boys singing that part and making their voices crack like that.
Thanks for the reaction, Harri! I was lucky enough to see Neil live opening up for Pearl Jam back around 1994 and he was AWESOME! Always enjoy checking him out live!!
One of Neil's best. Real shame about the sound quality on this version, but there are plenty of other versions with much better sound including the live albums Live Rust and Weld. The studio version is excellent as well.
Been lucky enough to see Neil many times over the decades and his guitar work is highly underrated, especially in Crazy Horse mode. If you haven’t listened to Cortez the Killer yet, you won’t be disappointed.
and, 180 turn , ' Pocahontas' - mid '70's actually was a good era - Dylan Blood on tracks. W. Nelson. Red headed Stranger. ETC
Omg!❤" I haven't heard this in years. It's wonderful! Thanks for!😊
The “eye” of a hurricane is quite calm and windless. But after the eye passes you, you get hit but the opposite eyewall, where the winds are again extremely strong. A rather apt bit of wordplay by Neil here. Yes, the great solo. The studio recording is also exceptionally good.
Nope no word play
Duh no shit sherlock
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't there...
Saw Neil Young back in the early 70s - Linda Ronstadt was the opening act. Yes, I was Blown Away.
Song never played the same way twice classic Neil
I love Neil Young's stuff, and this was a great performance. I was laughing to myself, however, thinking, "OH. I have a concert. He grabs some clothes out of the hamper and goes." That's my imagination at work. He's so unpretentious ❤❤❤
Yes HarrI yes! Keep Neil playing!
Such a great song by Neil Young. Thanks Lance and Harri.
I'm pretty sure I heard this version in 78 it was on TV. I was so turned on my this tune. Then I heard the studio version on the radio. I used to hang out with his bass players son .the dude will drink your last beer 😅
Next one to that song, should be "Down by the River, with Crazy Horse, live. You will be blown away some more! 🎸 🎸 🎸
He played that finally...most of his request wimps only want short acoustic cause they got crappy taste
The origin king of grunge🎸
First View Woo HOO! Love this masterpiece! (The studio version has two remarkable guitar solos too.)
Nope you can see you re not first
But this is of course better
The eye of a storm , is calm ,while a Hurricane rages 360 degrees around that eye
That vision of Neil playing in the wind and his awesome solo has stayed with me since it was first released nearly 50 years ago. A moment in time.
When I was a teenager, I went to a lot of live shows, lots of concerts by popular artists. The average price for a ticket in 1977, for example, was $7.50 (I kept many of my ticket stubs). Adjusted for inflation, that would be $37.54 in today's money, according to Google. An upcoming Neil Young show at Berkeley's Greek Theatre costs $299 for "lawn seating". That is many times over what inflation would have done to those ticket prices. Ticketmaster has made it impossible for anyone but the rich, elite, exclusive and priviledged to attend live shows. Pity, that.
Much better cuts out there, even the album cut put you in a haze❤️🤘
Oh how this song takes me back to carefree summer nights spent at the club with a huge crush on the most incredibly good looking man I had ever seen; eyes nearly the color of black. Oh how I admired from afar.
Very first i went to was Young and he played a 15 minute version on this and then right into a 12 minute version of All Along the Watchtower that combinrd Hendrix and Dylan's verisons. Epic
The movie of his live concert Rust Never Sleeps with the band Crazy Horse is awesome
Thanks Canada. Dig the Les Paul custom. Love my 57 Les Paul standard 👍. Adios from the Ozarks
This , like so many Neil Young songs lose something if they are not played at full volume.
I first got REALLY hooked on Neil Young with this song, even though I’d been listening to him for years before.
Harri, Neil had a phase where he experimented with electronic music & more extreme feedback effects. The most successful song from that stage was 'Transformer Man'. I'd suggest a reaction to better understand his creative range. I hope you'll do it!
Hi Harri, relative new subscriber here, a month or two. So many great suggestions taken up by you. Wow indeed! This is the song that got me attached to Neil Young. I'm so glad you got to react to this one. I love it. Never want the solo guitar to end.
Harri, where do you get your colourful t-shirts from? Nice one today 😊.
Thank you🖐
ISN'T THATTTT JUST CRAZY COOL HARRI WHEN HE GOES OFF LIKE THAT! 😊 LUVVVVV IT!❤
The original, studio version of this song was on American Stars and Bars. There is a much better live version out there some where. I saw and heard that live version that made me go buy the studio version. It's such a haunting solo. building through out the song!
Yup but not many of the top 40 wimp boys hear listen to his good live rock
Great! that old Les Paul is really piercing! There´s a live version of the song with Mr. Young singing and playing organ with no other instrument around (Could it be en the Unplugged CD?),that brings a different view to the song
Mr.Distortion .. Neil Young and his underwater guitar .. just simply the best
Thanks for reacting to my very favourite Neil Young song.
love this song, love Neil. peace and love from Canada
can you imagine seeing this at grandma's house in black and white, after she went to bed (in the late70s)?
Neil is Canada’s favourite troubadour. His guitar sings too.
Incredible!!❤
Neil used to do the first half of a concert in acoustic, putting you into the dream and then come out for the second half and stretch the dream into a trance
I love Neil Young, but I think this song is my favorite of his.
4-Way Street was the first album I ever bought. Enough said.
Exactly but wimp boys here only want acoustic garbage got they re top 40 garbage fans
(Mine was On the Beach in 74.)
For comparison, you could search for the acoustic version that Young did in his "Unplugged" sessions - also brilliant, but completely different. Then dig out Brian Ferry's laid-back lounge jazz version... It's just a classic song.
Great song
LOVE NEIL YOUNG you could make a career on music reaction with Neil Youngs music check out this if yu havnt albuquerque by neil young
he’s liked all of his bands I think, including CSN, but you can see he’s always in his happy place with crazy horse and that’s why he keeps with them. He just loses himself.
I believe that this is from his 1976 concert at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. Lucky me was there!
Nope definitely not
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN You may be right, although I know my concert video is on YT somewhere… I have seen it!
ruclips.net/video/Wi9DQypmggE/видео.html here it is.
This was a favorite the moment we heard it played.
YOU GOT A YOUNGER NEIL IN THIS GREAT CONCERT, THE GREAT RANTING NEIL! 😊
Neil wrote this song about a woman he saw in a Monterey, Calif, bar, he was so taken with her beauty, but he didn't approach her, didn't talk to her. Instead, he went home and wrote this song instead.
I also love Like an Inca, by Neil.
I think in the eye of a hurricane (or in the centre of), it is calm, and all the swirling happens around the “eye”. But don’t take my word for it. So it describes the girl very well; she looks calm with her eyes, but blows him away 🤷♀️
Yeah we know genius
You chose a very good version. Love it. Nice reaction
BOB DYLAN SONG IS ''HURRICANE''...ANOTHER GREAT SONG...DYLAN/NEIL YOUNG/SPRINGSTEEN...THREE SONGWRITERS AND GENIUS...
You shoulda listened to the original studio/rehearsal track from 1975 on the American Stars And Bars album.
From Neil's 1977 album, "American Stars 'n Bars", this song was inspired by Del Shannon's "Runaway".
Starting with a heavy a guitar riff, this includes Neil's trademark fierce guitars, with multi layered strings effects and delivery of a great melody with his so recognizable vocals. I think he's saying that she is the calm in the center of his hurricane and keeps him stable. Such a great song. After his 1975 album, "Crazy Horse" Neil wrote some of his finest rock songs. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Lance. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
No had nothing to do with Del Shannon
Well done, Harri! 🎸
❤❤❤❤
If you are lucky you will meet a Hurricane, someone who brings you inner peace, yet still overwhelms you at times with the emotions you share with them.
You should link to the video in the description.
Nice one Harri!
🥰🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
Young reviewers tend to over analyze many songs by Young, Dylan, and others. Back at the time, we just "listened" to the images.
go find the 'live rust' version!
OHHHHH YEAHHHHH!!! 😊 GREAT ROCKER HARRI 💯 DIFFERENT THAN DYLAN, DYLAN'S IS HURRICANE
Dylans song was titled 'hurricane' about a black boxer who was wrongly convicted for a triple homicide. Youngs song is 'like a hurricane'
The version to hear is the original studio one. He wrote it and played it with not being able to sing (due to a throat aliment. The studio version, first heard on "American Stars and Bars", was a spontaneous cut after the end of the day. After two weeks of Pancho playing rhythm guitar , which didn't really gel. Pancho just started playing the chords on the nearby Stringman keyboard. Neil, and the other guys started playing along, the engineer hit the record button and the rest is history. Vocals were added later. I wish that a version without the vocals was released, just to get hear it. That spontaneous version, was what Neil couldn't do, 'cause Poncho's guitar, left Neil no room to soar.
No definitely not..
LIVE Neil is the Best as is his rock
Much better live rendition of Neil with Crazy Horse on from the “Live Rust” album..
Nothing to,watch, except for the album cover, but great sound! ruclips.net/video/glprCWY3y3E/видео.html
Neil live with Paul McCartney doing “a day in the life”. Neil breaks every single string on his guitar (Old Black) by the end of it.
Nope awful stuff
Try Live Rust
Shakey at his finest......can never remember if it was Neil or Allman Brothers i've seen live more but either way i count myself lucky.
Roxy Music does a pretty good version of this as well.
No they definitely dont
Try the regular album version
Nope try Southern Man from 4 way street and grow some
Although I knew of Neil through his work with CSNY, I had never appreciated how good a guitarist he was until I saw this video he did with Crazy Horse (and a fan).
I became a lifelong fan after that. I admire his loose, impressionistic style of playing.
Nah cause most of Harri s wimpy boy never listen to anything but his boring top 40 acoustic stuff...too wimpy
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN I speak English, so your comment is incomprehensible to me.
Go listen to the studio recording. It will be worth it for the sound quality. Also, it's a few minutes shorter but packs a punch just the same. Thanks Harri ✌
Nope
Try Young's Powderfinger, preferably from the Live Rust album.
Nope ...Much better is Southern Man from 4 Way Street only top 40 wimp boys never hear it cause it's not top 40 garbage radio
Must do Powderfinger from Rust Never Sleeps album. Maybe Thrashers or Pocahontas from the same. Every song from that is great(understatement).
Nope Souther Man from 4 Way Street much better album and live but fan boys here just listen to top
40 garbage
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Are you dropping a turd under every comment as a junior high social studies assignment or what? If that's the real you, it's a sad look...
Meteorology lesson of the day, Harry. The eye of a hurricane is calm, so this is a perfect analogy. She is like a hurricane. There's calm in her eyes.
Duh everybody knows stop with the wimp boy review
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN Harry rules. No disrespect. Reading my comment now, it kind of looks like I came across as a smartass.
@@mikebaker9533 No disrespect; Harri asked, you answered. This tool you're responding to left a childishly rude response under every comment he responded to.
Now need Cowgirl in The Sand and no NOT A BOB DYLAN SONG
Find the version that has him playing this solo on a pipe organ. It’s INCREDIBLE.
Nope
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN lol wut
the 1986 version is way better for sound, but picture quality not so much
ruclips.net/video/qmKrcOB7udA/видео.html&start_radio=1
How about playing He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother by the Osmonds?
Fuck no...a wimpy horrible song and they didn't write it
I know you like a bit of Roxy Music Harri, they did a cover of this one.
And wasn't any good
Great song. Nothing beats the studio version though, the chords and tones he pulls from the guitar are unbelievable. This is a good live version. It's hard to live up to the studio version, nobody has ever been able to cover it. I've heard other musicians try.
I have to agree with every word you say, love this and Cortez ,one of my favourite artists.
@@jeffreybooth5129 and Danger Bird ♥️
Nope there are way live better versions..of this ...too many wimp boys only listen to his acoustic
@alphajava761 yup but most here don't like his rock they keep asking for the top 40 garbage acoustic...
Great reactio Hari. Too bad that video was a terrible recording
It's not Bob Dylan's "Hurricane", but it's "Like" it...
.
Not at all like
@@DENVEROUTDOORMAN
Oh, Sorry... should have wrote "excuse the pun".
.
1978 LIVE Version, I think the same year American Stars and Bars was released. an all around much clearer version of the song - ruclips.net/video/NwWBYj8xagw/видео.html
But this is better
You have the Volume too low!
Is your old age getting the best of your hearing or what....You're shortchanging your audience...Please Fix it!
I love this version of Neil! Thanks Harri! Peace!
