Dude, awesome hack! Works fine for my AMD FX-9370 and the FXF R9 Fury. An uncompressed 48 second FHD MTS file gets converted into a H.264 in about 30 seconds. So the GPU does help. :-)
+UncleManuel Yeah mate! Glad you got it to work 😉. No doubt the GPU helps, but if you were to download a GPU monitoring program you would see it's not getting fully utilized.

Very good video because it might help people who want to speed up the rendering when using x264 codec through x264vfw.
I did not utilize your tips but I would like to tell you that it is good to use OpenCL even on nVidia cards.
I would like to tell everyone (in case someone struggles with the same problem) that I solved the problem with rendering speed when using x264vfw - you basically have to use OpenCL with x264 vfw, otherwise - it will not utilize your GPU because it does not support CUDA.
OpenCL is useful when u prefer encoding to x264 using x264vfw in Adobe because it does not support CUDA (only OpenCL). So when u use CUDA u basically have no performance boost when using x264vfw and the rendering process is very slow - the only way to accelerate the rendering with x264vfw is to use OpenCL. CUDA support is generally buggy in Premiere - videos can stutter, etc.
I use CPU-based x264 codec because it gives the best results. Different option - H264 in Premiere outputs good picture but it destroys the red color in all my videos. It appears pixelated. When u use x264 CPU-based with OpenCL acceleration it outputs better quality videos without ruining the red colored spaces (no pixelation).
I just wanted to write this here so people can see this because I have been struggling with this for so long.

Figured it out! Apparently I was missing the step where you have to go edit your registry with regedit. Found that solution here: ruclips.net/video/r5r4t6Yg3R4/видео.html. Maybe you could add this step to your tutorial. Thanks!

While I'm now able to select the Mercury GPU aceleration (OpenCL) option, I don't see any improvement compared to the Mercury Engine software while rendering a short 6 second clip. Also, I'm not seeing any usage increase in my GPU while rendering. It looks like my GPU isn't being used at all =(
Yeah, that's how Premiere Pro works. It's not optimized very well. If you really want to see some differences do some research on NVENC. Although, that only works with NVIDIA cards.
What's your CPU?
I guess this doesn't work for Premiere 2021.

think of the GPU as a ram assistant for your CPU, not an actual rendering bottleneck, the CPU will be the bottleneck because rendering is a linear task for the CPU

Hey There i have a question!currently i am using amd hd5450,after being switched to gpu(open cl)when i pause the video inside premiere pro the program monitor goes black,when i play the video program monitor starts to display the video,why is this happening??and another issue is that i saved money and i like AMD RX470 4GB,if i buy amd rx470 4gb are there any chances that i am gonna face this black program monitor issue again??i used nvidia k600 some days,after switiching to cuda or gpu for rendering i faced no issues.this only happens with My amd gpu.Please help.i am using 2015 cc.
Maybe that GPU isn't fast enough and is buffering. Thats what it sounds like. A new faster GPU should help

My gpu acceleration works but the videos turn greenish pink.. How can i correct that? If i use mercury only then the colour issue doesnt happen.. Its only with gpu acceleration

Gonna guess you just need to make it by going into notepad, pasting the device name to the pad and saving the file as opencl_supported_cards.txt and then placing it in the correct directory.
That did not work for me which is why I did it my way.... Nice "guess" btw lol!

it works BUT premiere still never uses the gpu,
it keeps using intel integrated graphics for everything even exporting (even though i selelcted gpu acceleration option)
It will still use the CPU dude.... But it will also use a tiny bit of the GPU.

If it shows the option it is working. But you gotta remember even when you use GPU Accel in premiere it does not fully utilize the GPU.

Hmm. Sounds like you either don't have an AMD GPU or your drivers are not up to date
