Glad to be 1 of 252,690!
looking forward to an exciting year on the + side of 250,000 subs!!!
TravelFeels You deserve it Matti. You deserve more than this!
I love your tutorials! something actually useful!
Cool effect I believe Guy Ritchie uses this and always wanted to know how it was done. Thanks dude and congrats on the 250k 🤘
Start at 2:38 for those whose deadline is yesterday
Legend
Lol thanks man!
4:57 nice trick but original footage is better than tracked lol
Thanks buddy
2:38 actually
I appreciate the comforting talk surrounding After Effects. Let’s just say AE and I don’t have the best relationship haha
Bonus tip for more minor stabilizing:
Warp stabilizer can sometimes give a better and more desired without reallly warping too much if you decrease down to 1-10 stabilizing.
If there is still warping, change mode to "only position" :)
thank you so much this comment !
I finally got around to watching one of your videos and it is exactly what I needed. Thanks!
Fantastic tip! Thanks
This is quality Matti! Reminds me of the Sherlock Holmes Movies. I'll definitely applying this to my work, thank you so much!
This year has started out STRONG!!! Tips and videos are getting so much better.. love it Matti!
Lol I can remember that when this video came out, I did not get any of this. Now Im watching it again and its perfectly understandable. Keep progressing guys!!!!
Same man! Congrats to us!
That's a real motivation bruh 👏. Keep up the work
HAH SAME GUYS, SAME !
Keep grinding y'all?
I just started. Lets do our best 💪
I love everything you do, it is so helpful for all of us... Thank you! You deserve the subscribers and hopefully a million will come fast, sad how bad creators can get to millions without any value and here you are...
But this channel will get there for sure
True that
Haha I’m perfectly fine right where we are! All in good time just loving the journey 🙌🏻
True, thanks again!
I absolutely agree! :/
Thanks! This is exactly what we needed for our project. You bring the content with a solid sense of humor. We appreciate your candid "Don't be afraid of AE", I shy away from it whenever possible. Scary monster.
Just found your channel a couple days ago, and I must say, all your ideos are SO helpful, and easy to understand and follow. Thanks so much, and congrats on 250k!
individually thanking every creator who helped me with my first film. You were all a part of it. Thank you
Thanks for this, great tutorial which saved me with a time-lapse of a sunset. It had lots of camera bumps and the only thing I had to track/stabilise was the sun!
Hey Matti, great energy in this vid, its good to see you energized! Congrats on the channel growth as well. Thanks for the tutorial.
literally just editing a wedding vid with some newly discovered shaky footage that is borderline about to destroy the final cut. Warp stabilizer just wasn't cutting it and wow I just came across your vid. Thanks Matti, been subscribed for awhile and its been great to see the maturation of the channel.
"ITS just Aftereffects its not gonna bite" 😂😂👌👌👌👌 lol
Some people are so scared 😂
I feel severely bitten by the AE bug after watching this. Didn't look simple.
The biting comes AFTER you add effects :D
🤣😂😂😂😂
Can this be done in final ✂️ pro
This is such a great tip Matti! I've been always trying to find a way to stabilize shaky footage. This is actually a goldmine tip video so I really appreciate it that you've given this video tip especially for myself that has a shaky hands all the time when recording a footage.
🙌🏻
Dude I'm so glad I found your video, I've been trying to figure out how to do that effect for a while now but I wasn't having any luck looking for the right tutorials or examples. Thank you!
Hi, this is the first film of your that I have watched... and I'm hooked!! I'm so pleased to find someone who doesn't miss out the small steps and inspires the confidence to give it a try! You make it understandable, thank you. Now I'm going to check out more of your movies!!
using this video for like the 5th time! thanks Matti
and back for the 10th time
Didn't expect you guys to be here 😂
back for the 30th time
"Stabilize Motion" next to the "Motion Track" is easier to use for the same effect... (No need for 3D virtual camera or Null Object.)
I was thinking about trying that option instead. Not digging the result he got.
@@Desuetus - You still need to check and correct (or delete.) wrong keyframes as necessary...
where is the stabilize motion option?
@@byrden9897 it's in after effects dude
@@DL-lt5ly where in after effects ?
I’m lucky to be a part of this very talented man’s channel behind the screen. The way he explains the whole thing, is just amazing!
This was a really cool tip! Thanks for taking the plunge into After Effects, with your style of teaching you may be the one to unlock some of the great mysteries with this program. Lately I have been spending more time making running videos and this will be something cool for me to try. Congrats on 250K!
0:06 if this happens, also just lower the intensity of the warp stab effect ! It's at 50% by default but I often set it at 20%
MVP comment
Hey man can you help me out in a project regarding this effect ?
For those of you who can't do this due to the greyed out null object: set tracker to "Track Motion" and track type to "Transform"
ty
Thank you Matti. Its always great to see you and Pete working.
congratulations for the 250k mate, well deserved, the content of your videos is top!
If you've seen the latest "IT" film, the clown at the Lair scene with the girl, he's doing that weird sort of jive thing with his legs before he jumps towards her...THAT Look on the camera sort of looks like that AFX stabilization. It's pretty cool and has some creative uses for sure. Great video dude and congrats on 250k.
Ah I haven’t seen it but yea it definitely makes a crazy effect
Mark Holtze I was looking for this comment! Exactly what I thought of too
yeah i was thinking of this scene too
Finally someone who talks about IT and the stabilization
Exactly what I was thinking !!!
Great tutorial as always man! I remember seeing tracking stabilization in the forest scene of Sherlock Holmes A Game of Shadows, blew me away. Awesome effect
Yep that’s exactly the shot that comes to mind for me too!
that scene is incredible
MoonWalkerTexsRanger isn't it!
Congrats on your continuous growth on your channel! As a film editor these tips have Really helped me! So Thank You!
Thank you very much for carefully explaining the stabilizing process. It is straight forward once applied a few times and I've found that the size and shape of the area defined for tracking makes a big difference.
To make a better stabilisation, track the background and not foreground
For the footage I shoot I was sitting here thinking the same thing. It's cool for his footage while walking and following Peter, but I would imagine in most cases this would be a better tip.
I thought the same!
Save
how do you track background instead of foreground?
Hey man can you help me out in a project regarding this effect ?
Really enjoy your tips videos!
Thanks so much Lottie 🙌🏻
I'm a Gibbons too, Lottie! Hello from Utah!
Cranking out some great stuff Matti. That technique was a keeper.
Great to see you hit the New Year running - Congrats, bring on 500k!
Incredible tutorial... Was just wondering how to do this the other night! Your timing on videos with ideas I want to go for is always on key!
There are lots of time that i mistaken your video and thought peter uploaded a new video. And when i watch it. Oh.. its travel feels. 😂
Haha baited??? 😂
Mind blown every time.
So good 🙏🏻
Thanks a lot m8, looking since yesterday for a good way to stabilize my commercial footage and I couldn't find the perfect way, till this video showed up in my subscription box.
Big thanks from Germany :)
Was able to follow along flawlessly. Thanks for being fantastic at explaining AE!
This tip is legendary! 😮😮
Protips! 🙌🏻
So is the tip of my pee pee.
Macanin 😂 i love that guy ..u too body ..keep it up 😂
Great tip. You can also matte out the foreground object in a precomp and then use warp stabilizer in your main comp. After the analize, you can go back to the precomp and shut the matte off. It works great in most situations.
another awesome and informative vid, I've recently began my film/vlog ventures due to you and Peter and all of these tips and tutorials you guys constantly put out are great and super helpful!
THAT SEAMLESS SPONSOR PLUG THOOOOO
It’s a must haha
Ernest Arrellano That's how it's done. You massage it in. ;)
agreed ;) smooth transition
Same thoughts, that was great Matti
I use a plugin from pixel film studios for final cut pro x
Oh nice great tip! 🙌🏻
What’s the name of the plugin? Thanks
Never mind - “pixel studios stabilizer tool” 🙈
One of the best little secrets I`ve seen in youtube this year! Congratilations Matt!
The possibilities this gives you are amazing, like recreating David Fincher`s camera movement with a tripod or even handheld!!
Thanks for all the good content!!
It's so refreshing to see a brand new tip! I've watched plenty of stabilization videos and they all say the same things. Warp Stabilizer. Thanks Matti!
It's like the Sherlock Holmes effect, gives a unique look to it
Yep exactly!! 🙌🏻
I was actually watching this the other day and thinking the exact same thing where they are running through the trees scene!
Sherlock Holmes Game of Shadows movie also had a ton of motion blur included - even more disturbing effect. This is also seen in the Fight Club scene where the camera shakes from left-to-right and the main character's persona changes.
What's this FX called exactly, does anyone know?
@@frameupgrade7324
Also trainspotting
Came back here because everyone is using this technique as a trendy effect in 2019.
Congrats! Inspired! I’ve been doing this for over a decade great platform to share, love it!
Awesome man - love it! Thanks for sharing practical skill and then showing what it looks like and you did it quickly... really digging your stuff here
Setting your smoothness at 5% on warp stabilizer will reduce that jello-like thing in your footage.
Exactly. Sometimes I only set it to 2 or 3%, just to get the micro-jitters out. The default value of 50% is way overkill and will almost always look fake.
Davinci Resolve's stabilizer is super legit too. And FREE.
How can I stabilize my drone footage? Because my drone moves around and it’s flying around it thinks the whole footage is shaking or spinning.
I just want it to cut micro stutters but when it analyzes it just crops out the whole video
Warp stabelizer at 20% ;)
A plug-in called Realsteady
That's what Johnny uses
I love this effect! I'm starting out filming trail running races and even though I use a gimbal for action shots, sometimes I want to mix things up a bit.
I will try this out tonight on some of my spare footage, the results in your video look very professional.
DUDE. This works so well!! I'd never have thought of stabilizing this way, thank you so much for sharing!
Video stabilization is much-much faster in PowerDirector, real-time, zero waiting!
*Editing is not so nice there :-p
Is it... free?
New technique (needs high fps) : slow down the video until the stabilisation looks good and yep that's all
yea, but what if you dont want a slow motion shot lol.... and slowing down doesnt make it stablised, it just looks smoother but not stabilised
Congrats on 250k! Onward to 1M!! As always, great content, Matti!!
This is one of the best and incredible tip of all the RUclips classes!! Bravo!
After Effects? AFTER EFFECTS!? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! **runs away from computer**
jks jks it's not that bad... :P
@Sava Dimi probably an iSheep
That is an awesome effect Matti
Another issue I face is when you use Warp Stabilizer you can't slow down. Am I doing something wrong in Premier Pro CC?
after using warp stabilizer just go and nest that clip
The Patels the way I overcome this is by doing this...- I first slow or speed up my clip. I then nest that clip and once that is done I apply the warp stabilizer on the nested clip. It doesn’t work so well if you go from 50% to 100% but I think it works well if you just nest a clip at one speed and then warp stabilize that.
@Guy Hasewinkel thank you for this tip, I will definitely do this way.
@BOSE thank you
You can - it takes a few extra steps - in PP you will need to create a subsequence after you do the warp stabilizer - its in the right-click menu on the clip. Then you can speed and slow down the or add other effects to the sequence that is now in your timeline. If you want to go back and adjust the original just double click on the subsequence clip and it will open up the clip in the sub timeline and you can mess with it more. It works more or less the same in AE its just called "nesting" there.
thanks for that! it's great that you explain what you are doing slow and understandable
Brilliant as always Matti, great tip as I’ve had this exact issue before. This is the sort of content of your I love!
It does bite.
Tried the exact same steps described FOUR times and always came up with the exact same results: a nice selection box moving in the opposite direction of the tracking position, while the video remains sill in the middle with nothing changed.
Did you ever figure out why this is happening? I also followed his instructions to the letter and get the same results as you. Target moves but video remains still.
If you're still wondering, you need to set your FOOTAGE to be a 3D layer along with your null object. He just brushes over it at about 4:08 and doesn't say anything.
No, I made sure I did turn those cubes on (the 3d) on both my footage and the null object but for some reason the cloned part would be at a different location every time. I ended up having to put a motion tracker on the area I wanted to clone over, then on another track did the cloning, and then copied and pasted all the keyframes generated by the motion tracker layer into the layer with the cloned section. Again, at the beginning of the composition the cloned section would for some reason move to a different starting position, but if I moved it by hand and out it over the area I wanted to cover at the beginning of the timeline it tracked properly. I am still missing some setting/preset that send the cloned section to a different area for some reason.
Didn't get back on this reply soon enough. I tried this another time right after posting this comment, and it worked flawlessy. This is mi go-to reference video wehn I forget this neat trick. People think that I use a tripod or something when I record events. Thanks!
This is one step higher where we are now :( anyway thanks for another interesting video!!!!
Always pushing it to the next level!
Thanks for motivating ;)
one of your best videos yet! really enjoyed this! thank you.
Ive literally contemplated going FRAME BY FRAME, to crop and reposition each frame. cool to know that there is a process in AE that does just this!!! thanks so much for the tip, ill be using it!
Hey man don't count Warp Stabilizer out, when used right it's a life saver.
Little questiom, You are always talking about high end and 1000 euro + cameras, but what about 700d etc?
Rick Ouwehand Big up the 700d and iMovie combo 👍🏼
This technique crops in so you would already be at a disadvantage with a crop sensor body like the 700d but technically all these tricks would still work, just not as effective than a full frame body.
I haven’t used them in ages but I’m testing out a cheap camera right now
I own a 700D definitely would love to see it here
Congrats on 250k! You totally deserve it!
Great video. The aligning you did with my fear of after effects made all the difference. Thanks Matti!
1st!
So many firsts today haha 🙌🏻
Who here watches Peter McKinnon!?
ME
I know I do!
Me too! (of course) :)
This is an awesome tip! One thing to keep in mind for anyone wanting to try this make sure you do it BEFORE you do any time remapping to your clip. Once you do any time remapping the tracking options in After Effects won't work and you can waste a lot of time doing your speed ramps again.
Man, thanks for video, gj! Btw I am very glad to see that you reach your goal from that time :) Keep going!
Left as soon as you said After effects... Hate that program.
Your one of the ones who thinks it bites huh? 😂 it’s not as scary as it seems
Yes I am, Reminds me of the original FCP.. I open it and quit it right away. I will finish watching your video and maybe give it a try. I have been wanting to try Premiere Pro also for a while now but everything seems so small and awkward coming from FCPX not to mention on my Mac it takes like 10 minutes to load/open.
Eric Knorpp Hey, sounds like we are in similar situations. Need to upgrade the RAM of my macbook which is pretty easy to do and luckily I love learning so I'm looking forward to the challenge of aftereffects
Lol that's like someone who's trying to lose weight saying 'left as soon as you said cardio'. Sometimes it's necessary xD
??? Started on AE then started using Premiere Pro. I mean it's always been a must for me.
Amazing! This is exactly what I needed to help me out with my films :) Thanks for the upload man!
This was super informative. Really can't stand seeing what WS does to my footage. Nice to know there's this method and the affect looks great. Thank you.
You are a God, bro! Thank you so much for this video! Finally I can fix shaking camera issues now when warp stabilizer does not work! Thanks once again!
This is actually a really awesome tutorial! Thank you so much for all that you do!
this just helped me so much thank you matti ❤️❤️ and congratulations for 250 k
Hi Matti, nice tips! Will try this technique too, I never knew how this look was achieved and you’re right it looks pretty cool.
That is really awesome and helpful !! I can't wait to use this in my next video !
I know this tracker in AE many years, but i never use it this way. Thank you for this tut., its simple and it works perfectly!
The best AE stabilzing tutorial I've seen so far!
Thanks Matthi this helped me alot. Keep doing the awesome work that you are doing
I did some transcribing work on one of your videos and had to subscribe, I'm a videographer so these are really cool tips and videos. Thanks for sharing
You are awesome Matti! Great and very useful tutorial!
Will try out some of these techniques asap. Always awesome information bro!
been a bit since I've done this in AE - vid was quick and to the point, appreciate you matti.
Awesome tip! Will definitely start using this a ton... Thanks for sharing!
I'm currently running a budget setup (budget camera, lenses etc...) and this makes my footage look good. Keep on producing quality content!
wow, this was extremely well explained and such a great tip. thanks so much! Will definitely be using this.
Wow, simply and to the point... in under 5 minutes I have smooth video, thank you!
Great work, Matti! Love it
wow. this is great Matti! Thanks!
Congratulations on the 250K subs, Matty!
Such a rad look! Need to try and check that out!
That was awesome, thanks Matti!
