Herr Zeiens you can find a 64 partner in TTYD and old partners from both games in Super Paper Mario, which means you’re wrong.

Amen to that. Definitely my favorite.
What I liked about Count Blek is that he kidnapped not only Peach, but also Luigi and Bowser, and used both to stop Mario! Gameplay aside, I think Super Paper Mario had the most cunning villain in a Mario game, even if he was just a pawn in someone else's plan!

No one can tell me that Super Paper Mario hasn't the best story in any Mario game. They spent half of this episode to break it down and they didn't even cover everything.
Here's my preffered chronology for the Paper Mario series.
1. Paper Mario Sticker Star
2. Paper Mario Color Splash
3.Paper Mario 64
4. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door
5. Super Paper Mario
With each game, the tonality gets darker and the story becomes better and more in depth. The main villain also transitions from Bowser to bigger threats. I'm not including Paper Jam because that is more of a Mario and Luigi game with Paper Mario features and enemies. I'm playing all of the Paper Mario games. Right now I am at World 3 in Sticker Star.
Isaac Bridges it also shows Bowser losing more and more support.

Isaac Bridges In Sticker Star Bowser's minons are unquestionbly loyal, In Color Splash some of the low ranking Minions start to wish they didn't work for him, In Paper Mario 64, many "minion" species are now just peacful citzens, and Bowser now hires mercanries like the giant Vulture, or bride people like the giant Spike by making him invicible and scary so the Boos stop bullying him. By TTYD and SPM Bowser's army is very small, and most of his former forces are neutral, even if they might still attack Mario., like the Goombas in the Rougeport sewers.
madmoblin Good point. I never noticed that! It would also explain why Kamek is replaced by Kammy Koopa, and Bowser's Castle becoming smaller in each game, as well as Mario seeming to grow stronger and meet new people and partners, and discover more of the Paper Mushroom Kingdom and eventually other dimensions as the games and his own story progress further.

The timeline is. 1-3 are canon and happened within the mainline Mario universe like everything in the first three games and later games with characters from the Paper Mario games appearing in them in 3D show them to be and the numerous clear continuity tie ins to previous and future games within the Mario series, and the fact it continues Super Mario RPG's storyline by having the Star Spirits (The Higher Power mentioned by Geno) have a major roll in the game and having Star Hill and Star Road reappear in the storyline (Shooting Star Summit and Star Way are Star Hill and Star Road in Japanese) and the fact that the series was created to be Mario Story which is Mario's universes' canon lore with a story. While 4, 5, and PJ are non canon games to the Mario universe because they are written by new people who didn't pay attention to what actually happened and are impossible to happen because of it.

Balloogney Boi What’s wrong with people liking the game? Just because you easily got bored of it and gave up? The game just was not for you, but if you have played through the whole game it would’ve given you a brief understanding why the game was so much fun.
Me to up there with he most hours I have ever spent on a game because my parents couldn't understand why I would need more than 1 game sp I just had that game and metroid
The timeline is as follows:
Paper Mario
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Super Paper Mario
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Paper Mario: Color Splash
Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam (crossover with the main Mario universe, as the Paper Mario universe resides within a story book)
Maybe the story book could be a portal to paper Mario's world.
My favorite paper mario game would have to be Super Paper Mario. It has the deepest story out of the bunch; and also has a ton of post-game content.
This includes:
- Pit of 100 Trials (Flipside)
- Pit of 100 Trials (Flopside)
(Which you have to do TWICE!)
- The 100 Sammer Guys
- All 256 Cards
- All 96 Recipes
- All 48 Maps (And maps are VERY expensive in total, they will require some grinding if you expect to buy all of them).
Not to mention a whole entire different track (chapter 8-3/4) and a lot of dialogue for after you beat the game.
I wish we know more of Luigi's adventure during the TTYD timeline.

Oh please stop for once!!!! They are cannon! Can people please just stop hating on these two fun and amazing games?! They might not be like the old Paper Mario games but they’ve still enjoyable.
Paper Mario:Thousand Year Door is my favorite Mario game, Super Paper Mario was okay didn't really like Sticker Star haven't played 64,I feel like everything that made 1,000 year door great was removed in it's sequels.
Paper Mario: Thousand Year Door for its gameplay, Super Paper Mario for its story and Color Splash for entertaining quotes.
I was going to get 64 off the virtual console but my Dog chew up the charger to the Wii-U and I haven't gotten a new one yet, and I also can't find my pro controller (or my Ganondorf Amiibo but that's irrelevant) once I replace it I'll try it out, might try Color Splash but it kinda looked like Sticker Star,might wait for it to be on sale.

They missed the TTYD Lore about the Four Heroes who stole the crystal stars from the Shadow Queen in order to use them against her, only for it to not quite work. Instead, they sealed her into her own castle for a thousand years, giving the world all the prep time they needed for round 2. The Shadow Queen had one last trick up her sleeve, and the Four Heroes were cursed with much the same fate, sealed into their own boxes that could only be opened by the Legendary Hero (mario). Once opened, they assisted Mario in retrieving the Crystal Stars.
Wonderful job on the breakdown of the Paper Mario timeline.
I think super paper Mario is first and what happened is that Mario’s 3D power turned the whole world 3D
And now there’s just one left… paper Mario the origami king! King olly and Olivia’ story will also fold into the creases of this unusual game!!!
I hope Super Paper Mario gets a re-master.
I like to divide all these games into categories.
Paper Mario 64 and TTYD are Pop-Up books.
Super Paper Mario is a book that’s connected to a computer.
Color Splash and Sticker star are Dioramas.
So I believe that this franchise has 3 separate worlds and timelines.
I think it split between two timelines:
Timeline 1:
Paper Mario
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Paper Mario: Color Splash
Timeline 2:
Paper Mario
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Super Paper Mario
It makes some sense, as the characters in TL1 act different than the characters in TL2. M & L timeline goes like this:
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

Zachary Erickson Clearly you don't understand.A split timeline doesn't mean time travel occured, it means something different happened then in the opposing timeline. Look at the Zelda timeline. It splits in three directions at one point, where one is the hero fails, one is the hero goes looking for Navi, and one is the hero is victorious. They start off with the same game, but depending on what the character does after the game, a different timeline is created. Look up the Zelda timeline if you are confused
Zachary Erickson I know but that has NOTHING to do with the parallel universe theory tons of Zelda games have time travel, like Skyward Sword. That doesn't instantly make something a split universe. Here's an irl example: I wake up. I have the choice of eating waffles or cereal for breakfast. In one universe, I eat cereal for breakfast. In another, I eat sugary waffles. This creates two seperate universes. To take it a step further, say in one universe I eat cereal and everything's fine, but in the other I burn the waffles and burn my tongue bad when attempting to eat them. Now there is two universes, one where I nonchalantly go to school that day, the other where I'm in the hospital because I badly burnt the inside of my mouth. NOW do you understand?
I'm shocked that this is the only real "timeline video" and it's only really explaining the plot of the games in order rather than explaining lore in a chronological order. I guess there isn't as much love for the lore in these games as I thought.
There isn’t much to say since the lore doesn’t really connect the games beyond a few references here and there.

I think Super Paper Mario is in the final because talks about Mario's universe apocalypse and Paper Mario TTYD is in before of this game because the photo on the house of Mario has TTYD partners

Sticker Star's submission was so short! I liked the game but, it was really all that could be said by that game. I wonder how Paper Jam fits into here. It is a Mario and Luigi game for sure, but I wonder the paper cast was really just a book in that time line or if the cast of the Paper Mario timeline actually experienced it.
There's only one timeline. Paper Jam is an excuse plot game that only has that as its concept because of game-play reasons and has no bearing on anything in the Paper Mario series. All Mario games happen in the same timeline.

U forgot to mention the 4 heroes that defeated the body of the shadow queen 1000 years ago before one thousand year door. They were cursed in the cursed chests.

I just realized wasnt there already black paint like most characters have black in their sprite including Luigi Mario and Peach and even Toad?
The way I see it is that the first three games happen in tandem to the Mario & Luigi games and in order leading into Paper Jam, while Sticker Star and Color Splash are non-canon. The "bad" games feature paper jokes that ruin the illusion of aesthetic, breaking the fourth wall, which is funny but out of character, and a lack of deep story to keep the flow.

if you were to pt the timeline in order the first game would be 64 (the stars guard the star rod since the beginning of time) and the last would be color splash. funny how that works isn't it?
At the end of Super Paper Mario, all of the Paper Mario dimensions were restored, but did they remain the same? Inside the series- excluding choices made in the real world- perhaps a canon explanation to why Paper Mario changed is that his book, so-to-speak, was rewritten.

I think Donkey Kong and then Pokemon as both franchises have some interesting stories to tell even though it may seem that their narratives are light especially Pokemon when you compare the series to most other JRPGs
Also considering stories, I noticed that the first 3 Paper Mario games have allot more story to them compared to the recent 2 Paper Mario Games.
I know that Super Paper Mario was more of a side scroll plat former with RPG mechanics but even that game had interesting twists and turns in its storyline.

nice job going super into detail for the backstory of super paper mario but glossing over 90% of TTYD's story/backstory. is SPM the only paper mario game you've played? theres so much more to it you can learn simply by talking to NPCs. I suggest talking to the oldish rat looking lady on the roofs where bobberys house is,you'll get a good amount of backstory out of her. But seriously, i figured you were just glossing over everything for every game but then you get to super paper mario and go really in depth on the backstory. why? the first 2 games had backstory too.
well my guess is that they covered spm’s backstory the most is because the main story might be hard to completely understand with out context, but idk
