For those that aren’t familiar, roasted rice tea can be purchased, but a similar flavored tea is genmai cha (roasted rice and green tea). The most popular common brand in my area for Japanese Americans is J-Basket. It comes in a blue box. It just depends on the personal ratio preferences though!
I don't know why genmai cha doesn't received quite the hype all these years. I honestly preferred this over other tea varieties. I even occasionally ordered it's bubble tea version, which have more interesting note than typical milk tea

roasted brown rice~ is probably one of the best tea to start with if you are not a tea drinker. Not green tea or chamomile, some don't like the taste of steeped dried leaves or flowers but the nuttiness and after taste of roasted brown rice, real good

There’s a Korean place in my city that serves unlimited complimentary brown rice tea...it’s my absolute favourite and I would go there solely to drink pots of that tea (not even order any food), if I could
@@hellowendy1029 The key is to not over-steep the leaves. The reason English tea uses cream and sugar is because when they stole the secrets to Chinese black tea cultivation, they didn’t know how to properly brew it to maximize it’s flavor, so they offset the bitterness with cream and sugar (it’s valid to like either and up to personal preferences!). Pu’erh (fermented black tea) is a great place to start as well as it’s extremely difficult to over-steep. It’s very dark and earthy!

@@hellowendy1029 Of course! I’m still very new to the hobby, but I’m trying to spread the interest as much as I can! The original commenter is definitely right too! Roasted rice tea is a great start. It can just be a bit difficult to find, especially if you’re not close to any Japanese markets. Genmai cha is great too, even for people that usually don’t enjoy tea! It’s green tea with roasted rice. It can likely be found in any local grocery store. Brew at 175°F for up to 3:00 min to avoid bitterness. I also highly recommend investing in an electric tea kettle with specific tea temperature settings. They’re not too pricy for a kitchen gadget, especially if you can find a deal. :D
I TOTALLY LOVE your Japanese food reviews! It's like you're translating the Japanese language for an American English speaker - but with food. I’m from the island of Puerto Rico which is also a former Spanish colony just like the Philippines and I been watching this show since it’s inception while I became acquainted with lots of Filipino culture in Seattle. I have always enjoyed leaving comments as someone who works with food almost as serious as Jannaelle (ah I can’t spell that rn) but have had many opportunities taken away from me in my life including the ability to educate myself about food with as much comfort as many and for sure the decency to have this glamorous social media presence, but listen here: I’m up next kid. I remember going here right before covid. My mom left me to answer a business call in an alleyway and i saw this ice cream shop so i went here alone 🤣. Didn’t know it was the strongest matcha till after. I think i also got 7 and 5. Downside was definitely the seating. I wish it was more of a cafe where people could sit and eat because it all felt so rushed. Couldn’t sit to enjoy it.
