    Very enjoyable tutorial.
Nice job of cover the entire song, not just the licks. Thanks!

Ted Fitzgerald glad you enjoyed the lesson, and found it useful. I feel for a song like this, that it is worth covering the whole bass line, as it’s such a classic. Hope you enjoy the rest of my channel.

This is one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands of all time. I was lucky enough to see Free play live in 1969 (just before the release of their debut album Tons of Sobs). The remarkable thing about Andy Fraser (I know he’s not the bassist on this song) who I regard to be one of the greatest bassists of all time (For anyone who doesn’t know check out the bass solo from “Mr Big”) is that he was just 16 years old!! Sadly no longer with us but the music of ‘Free’ will be with us forever. Thank you Greg for this lesson on a fantastic song by one of the greatest bands ever.

Purple Bass wow that must have been an amazing gig. One of my favourite bands too. In fact I played Alright Now at my first ever gig!

Greg's Bass Shed I was born the same year as Andy but I remember the gig to this day. It was at Brunel University and all of us there knew we were among four awesome giants of music.

Frankie 1 thanks for your support with Greg’s Bass Shed, and the ‘coffees’ which I noticed you had brought - much appreciated!
What would be the number one video course you would like to see from Greg’s Bass Shed?

Greg's Bass Shed I’m looking to get some effect pedals soon but with so many maybe advice on which pedal to choose for certain styles eg slap , funk, pop ,rock etc, and how the settings work on them to get different sounds .

Frankie 1 that’s a great idea. I am thinking of setting up a subscription area on the website and I could feature a new pedal every couple of weeks as part of that.

Greg I hope you don’t mind me commenting again but I see in one of your comments to this video you ask ‘what would be the number one video course you would like to see from Greg’s Bass Shed ?’.
Mine would be a song builder course aimed at the beginner/intermediate player with songs from groups such as U2; Rolling Stones; Small Faces; AC/DC; Bruce Springsteen; Dire Straits just to name a few and of course Free - Ride on Pony/Ride a Pony (song seems to have two names) might be a good one but probably not Mr Big!

Purple Bass I really welcome this type of feedback, as it means I have more chance of getting the right courses out there. This course is a great idea, and top choice of bands there. This idea is well worth thinking about, thanks.

Greg's Bass Shed The reason for suggesting a song builder type course is because I believe it builds motivation, well I know it does with me. Over the last few months I’ve read numerous comments from people who say things along the lines of “I know every scale and every mode backwards but I don’t know any songs!”. Oh and one other group I can’t believe I didn’t mention that is Pink Floyd (I’ve just learned the bass line to ‘Wish you were Here’).

Purple Bass very true, I notice a lot of players obsessing about modes and scales (and gear), and losing any motivation.
As well as enjoyment which is important, I believe the best way to learn, is to play and analysis bass lines.
