So far the most useful bass lessons I have seen on you tube. There are other great ones you tube as well ,but I feel like this is so straight forward and practical. Thank you!
Cheers Travis, I'm glad that you like the new intro clip! This scale is so important and definitely one to have under your finger. Hope all is good with you, G
@@ZPX945 if you start the scale on each of its notes, you get the other shapes. If that makes sense? That might make a good lesson. I’ve already done this for the major pentatonic scale: ruclips.net/video/5ROuWvE0oww/видео.html
A shape that really helped me extend this scale and see the fretboard better, is to play the root and then play the major pentatonic shape (any of them) of the third. So play an A-and then the 5 notes of the C major pentatonic-and you've just played A minor pentatonic plus the octave. The third of the minor scale is the relative major-same notes. Yes great lesson from a great teacher. (correct me if I'm wrong Greg....)

@@davidlawrence3425 start with the minor pentatonic scale based on the root note of that chord. So for example, play a G minor pentatonic scale over a G major chord.
I would have liked to hear why a minor pentatonic scale works with a major scale and which one ? A minor 3rd and flat seventh don’t belong to a major scale, hence my question
@@davidvitale9338 you’re correct but it works because it produces a kind of Blues sound. Lots of blues riffs have the minor 3rd in them but they are played over major 7 chords.

Thanks! My most straightforward lessons based on one concept seem to do well, I must remember to make more of them!

Yes this is one of the tips I have from my bass teacher and you have reinforced this. Will check out your other scales and arpeggios too. Thank you

❤ Greg, appreciated. Cheers, Debs 💫

Cool lesson! Are there other shapes of the Minor Pentatonic scale? If so: please teach us 🙂

Muito bom! Parabéns meu amigo.
Muito obrigado!
Great stuff as usual, Greg. Do you do have a take on any Duck Dunn stuff such as Sweet Home Chicago or any other Duck Dunn bass?

Would it not also work if you played the related minor scale over the chord? Like using the E minor pentatonic over a G chord?
@@hobbayne yes that works too as the major pentatonic and the relative minor pentatonic have the same notes.
Thanks Greg - how do you determine the best minor pentatonic key to play over the major?
