I've got so much from your video's that I never took lessons from anyone else...and now I just bought my first 5 string bass.👍👍👍

This is one of the most fundamental lessons on bass! How to link your scales/patterns/modes to a backing track with chord progression and fitting into the pocket. Brilliant!

I'm still jealous of that '80's Ibanez. I didn't even hear anything he said...just looking at that bass

I have a tendency to use part of the bass line while playing a fill, while playing a rhythm part. It comes natural. I heard Hendrix do it in just about every rhythm part. I don't even think about it anymore. Knowing bass lines is essential to what ever part you're playing. Nice work.

The second chord on the backing track doesn’t quite fit with your D minor triad. In my opinion 👍🙏🇬🇧♥️

Which backing track? There are four. You might be playing the wrong triad over it.

Thanks so much for your vids! Having these available helps so much for me jumping back in when a busy work schedule gets in the way.
I found in a video from another channel that I can practice the major triads going up (or down rather, but still up?) the circle of fourths within each of the three neck positions using. One of these has pinky on the root, third finger on third, and hitting the fifth two strings up from the root using the index finger.
I've added that to your chord progression examples and blend in different notes before the root liek you've shown. I find this helps understand why I'm practicing these positions rather than just straight arpeggios, though a well placed one still works!

Dan, your lessons about rock and patterns (and how to use and slip from one to the other) are awesome and so "unlocking". Thanks! You give so much musicality to parts that often sounds "flat". This is skill!

Ive been playing for 34 years, some of it professionally, and i still find at least a couple golden nuggets in every one of your videos that fills in some void in my music theory memory. Thank you Dan!

great lesson, I didn't know the "complex soul pattern" Dominant 7 arpeggio. I wonder, what do you use to make your pattern illustration?

It’s quite a common one that. I love it. I use Neck Diagrams.

good one, dan! your point at the end is something that resonates. you mentioned that we need to not only know the shapes in 1 position but all over the fretboard. i'm struggling with how to practice this and get this really under my fingers such that these could be fluid transitions. i'm too often stuck in 1 position.

Thanks for having such great lessons. I've been practicing your drilles and various video grooves for a few months. I've purchased your RnB & Soul & Mowtown book. Any other suggestions on course material with someone with a few years of high-school jazz band type of experience, who'se been getting back in? I really like your lessons and explanation, but looking for more of a cultivated curriculum, I'm thinking of your "Music Theory for Bass Players', but wondering if there might be something else should try instead.....

Thanks very much. I would recommend the theory course for someone of your level. The Funk one is good if you’re into that style or want to explore it. It’s quite rhythmic and good for groove/timing.

So far, ive picked up the major and minor triads . And using them on several locations on the neck. And learned about what pattern to use on 7 cords.
I will definatly check the rest of you RUclips. Thanks again... 😊
