Just one correction, since we are already here: first season was more into direction of communism, with everyone being on the same level and some kind of people’s society. Second season was about a kind of fanatic religious. Third season was all about anarchy. This season is themed on fascism. The militarized state, the reeducation camps and all.
Love Kuvira as the villain of season 4. She's terrible, but I do believe she legit thinks that she is doing the right thing for her people. Like imagine, most of them have lived their entire lives under the oppression of the earth Queen, huge class divides and poverty, and then in a blink of an eye the whole government collapses because of Zaheer. It must have been absolute chaos. Kuvira sees the kind of influence the metal clan could have, with their focus on innovation and progress, but Linn refuses. Kuvira is 100% going about this the wrong way, but I understand how that kind of frustration could breed a form of totalitarian extremism.
One thing that you touched on, but deserves more context. She did watch one man (in their eyes they didn’t know it was the red lotus squad) change the entire kingdom in that small time. Kuivira probably always thought change was impossible until that moment and afterwards, she probably realized it was possible and thought she could go about it differently than Zaheer.
Kuvira is interesting. You can see how she was trying to prevent whatever happened to her when she was young happening to anyone else, how she’s trying to step up. Suyin’s warning about how her suggested methods will likely go are coming true. Now she’s in so deep she can no longer see what happening or what she’s become. She is ultimately replacing the past tyrant with a new tyrant, herself.
The argument is that she's less impactful as a character than Zaheer or Amon, not that she's uninteresting. She's clearly a mirror to Korra so that in itself is interesting.

@@SnailHatan but they didn’t really need either of them so yes kuvira definitely wouldn’t care if they got hurt or worse, they we’re going to send bolin to a camp
Suyin thinks like Black Panther while Kuvira thinks like Killmonger ... Kuvira jumped from trying to save the Earth Kingdom to having visions of conquering the entire world
Obviously kuvira is bad now, but I liked that she wanted to seemingly legitimately wanted to help ba sing say. I really wish Su had done something (obviously if she did there would be no plot). I mean she said they would be seen as conquerors and yet they would have been peacekeepers. Plus you have other world leaders giving her their blessing. She had all the tools to help, but didn't and that disappointed me
The thing is, she actually helped Ba Sing Se and the rest of the Earth kingdom, if it wasn't for her, it would still be revolving in chaos, with way worse power structures taking place
Also, fun trivial fact: Kuvira is voiced by the daughter of the late Robin Williams, Zelda Williams. Her character was modeled after Zelda to a degree.
Varrick finally grows and shows himself to have a conscience and tries to do the right thing and now you say he is “useless” and is “pissing you off right now”… all because he sucks at fighting? Who do you think you are, the fire lord??
Spartan calling the fascist a communist hurts me- there are legitimately far left villains in Korra ( Zaheer, *maybe* Amon- could argue that showing a member of the powerful class leading a revolt of the oppressed is a legit critique of communism, and Zaheer is a anarchist with no foresight) but Kuvira is NOT one of them
Bolin getting washed by Kuvira dude even with the lava bending he wouldn't stand a chance all she has to do is wrap him up with metal and he's done since he can't metal bend.
With there being 3 years between last season and this one, people have matured and changed a small bit. Korra now is trying to handle stuff differently. Bolin was naïve for so long but seems he is trying to do something now. Kuvira is a silver tongue conqueror. She has the gifts and mind to manipulate people to do her bidding. I'm glad you caught on that they introduced her last season as a teaser for this season! Not many realize and think she comes out of no where. The re-education camps give me strong concentration camp and immigrant camp vibes. Especially with how the choices are people become slaves, or they argue against it and sent to these camps. So what can be worse then slavery to make you pick slavery?
Amon wasn't communist - he just wanted everyone equal as non-benders Communism means no classes, money, or state - Amon wasn't trying to eradicate any of those things
In her mind (and others for sure), she sees queen as not the same as empress because her title is based on merit, not bloodline. She doesn't have some "divine right" to rule; she fought and worked and brought the land together by her actions. And that makes her right to rule and her actions and orders justified since they are what got things done. Of course missing the forest for the trees, not seeing subjugating and quashing your own people's personal freedoms and instigating a culture of fear around your rule is literally exactly what the governing power around Ba Sing Se were doing for decades, whether it was the Earth Queen or Long Feng and the Dai Li puppeting King Kuei.
All i can say is I love your reaction.... I can't say anything about the episode... There is what I consider both the best episode coming and worst episode at some point... Can't wait for you to see what happens
That meta stuff aside, what gets me is that Spartan especially acts like dude can just shoot lava from his hands...and isn't wearing metal on his uniform, trying to go against a master metalbender, while also not being able to metalbend himself. The moment he tried anything, Kuvira would end him, and even in a 1v1 standoff with no sneak attacks, I honestly think she would just beat him outright as well. Lavabending is strong in terms of its pure destructive capabilities but it's pretty limited to ground-based attacks at Bolin's current level. Compared to Ghazan or even Kyoshi, being able to superheat stones into flaming buzzsaws or raise pillars of magma, respectively, with their level of mastery.
we maintain 4 weeks ahead on demi god as promised, not sure what the problem is here? we need to have a couple episodes in the bank to have content for sick days and breaks. as we speak we are slowly getting ahead for christmas break so people can have a steady flow of content. but someone will always complain over something 😂

Side note. Kuvira is not a communist. She's an authoritarian leader. Unfortunately, the creators of this show didn't really know how to write different social/ political idealogies, so they kind of fall into a straw man fallacy. However, Kuvira is not too far off of our current leaders. In the real world, the "first world" or "the west" use her tactics to enfore what they call "ruled based order" which actually means "do what I say or else....". (We can see how they coup, install puppet dictators, invade, etc) We can see this all the time with how western countries overthrow popular leaders in deveoping countries so they can exploit the local population for resources and labor. Just how that one village was a target because it was "rich in ore" and all the other people getting thrown in jail working as slaves. I could go on and on about this topic but to summarize, Kuvira is a leader that real world governments (specifically the US, Europe, Australia, Japan, S Korea, etc)would put into power so that they could continue to profit off of the developing world.
I love how everyone assumed the worse about Asami, and then through the series we find ourselves crying along side her in her special moments.
