They didn't have any problem. they had plenty of opportunity to take their massive catalog and beat Amazon, but instead stuck to their old ways. Sears right to the bitter end kept their old model, I bought a book shelf from Sears a month before they revealed they were trouble, it was on sale and it was like I was ordering a fridge from my a local electronics shop 1995, I had to go to a store, talk to a sales rep to find the bookshelf in a massive paper binder, wait 15 minutes for them to confirm it was in stock, wait another two - three days to be shipped to that location, and then pick it up at a 'central' location, even tho it was advertised in a goddamn flyer! Actually, a lot of Amazon's electronics are just rebranded versions of the same tier 1 brands. Still, people like the Best Buy experience. I like to shop at Microcenter because they do employ a lot of competent people. Best Buy has sway with Boomers who aren't tech inclined. It'll be hard for them in 10 yrs.
@@rxonmymind8362 Are you a financial analyst? Amazon is poised to take over vast swaths of the retail market. They already have. They're becoming the new Walmart. Even Walmart itself is threatened by Amazon. Their major risks do not include selling cheap products. Most of the time, Best Buy marks up similar products (mostly made in CN or VN) to cover their overhead. Similar gross margin per unit, much higher operating costs. You're not paying BB for a better product; you're paying for their customer service. If you know which phone case fits your phone, if you know how to select the right TV for your needs - you don't need BB. The main risk to Amazon is that they grow too big and lose focus or make poor acquisitions that increase DOL.
I work at Best Buy currently, we will survive for sure. Changing what we sell in store to fit the modern day for sure, but we won’t be going out of business anytime soon.
You guys have no brick and mortar competition , save WalMart, and likely never will have any formidable competition from a brick an mortar player. It’s the only thing that will keep you guys afloat. That and inevitable gov’t regulation. Amazon will face increased regulation every single year for the next decade plus - they won’t know what hit them. Amazon reminds me of MaBell, but Amazon will be broken up sooner than it took for Telcom to be dismantled. I heard scuttlebutt yesterday that Amazon is developing its own currency. Big mistake, too greedy. WY started to collect sales tax in WY a couple years ago, so I went front 100% Amazon to 50/50, often ordering from Best Buy’s website and having shipped or picking up. Now that Amazon lets me return an items to Kohl’s, no questions asked, I might go back to Amazon. I bought a jacket from Amazon, took the tags off, and found out they sent the wrong size. I got on Amazon app, spent 45 seconds setting up a return, was e-mailed a QR code. I took the jacket under my arm and the QR code on my cell phone to Kohl’s and was out the door in two minutes. BestBut can’t compete with Amazon’s return policy in my opinion. Amazon will soon have tens of thousands of kiosks an partnerships across the country that make returns an effortless process. The customer is ALWAYS right at Amazon, but not at Best Buy , IMO. And I’ve only returned 1% of the few hundred items I’ve purchased from Amazon, but their customer service and return policy is amazing an dit means a lot to me when I need it. Millions of others shop at Amazon for this very reason Another thing that hurts Best Buy is that Amazon is a one-stop shop. The are very few items or services that cannot be obtained from Amazon. Best Buy is electronics
And I thank you for it: yesterday I ordered a fitbit and it's already in my hands, and best buy's reviews helped me a lot to get the one I needed, they're reliable (unlike amazon's).

Vladimir Horowitz understanding the needs of the custumer is custumer service. I agree custumer shouldn’t be burdened with advices and opinions but a simple “can i help you?” Can really do most brands some good. (Im from india and amazon has destroyed many small retail outlets here) the problem was that many shopkeepers didn’t knew how to respect the custumer. They would price their products outrageously high and were famous for rude behaviour. If a shopkeeper does these things and then cries about the competition talking all the sale then you don’t deserve to be in retail

After it broke down again, the technician said he would contact the company because they no longer made a the computer board which we needed to replace. Generally their customer service is average but not anywhere near excellent or exemplary. Had a very bad experience recently. I'm so hesitant to go there anymore.
Reasons Best Buy will not fail : 1) diversified income - not from selling products but from rent received from multitude of vendors that set up mini stores/stalls/booths within the store:Apple, Samsung, lg, Sony and the list goes on. Rent collected whether they makes sales or not. 2) companies pay rent and premiums for shelf space and placement of product on specific location on shelf and in store. 3) best margins on Best Buy in house brands : insignia, dynex and geek squad 4) best in class warranty service and sales. 5) price matching anything shipped and sold by amazon Etc etc.
Yup, that's a major problem with Amazon. I bought an SD card two days ago from Best Buy instead of Amazon despite it being $10 more and having Amazon Prime so it would have came the next day. At least I can feel confident that what I buy is real (Although I realize I can just test the SD card to see if it's fake and send it back, but I didn't feel like doing that).
I can't believe I haven't thought of that before. Amazon is a bit risky for certain items and it makes more sense to get it from Best buy. I was thinking of it from a damaged items points of view 🤔 but now that you mention it, I remembered there are fakes in the mix with Amazon.
Best buy also has extremely strict packing standards for their electronics. As for Amazon, who knows if you are buying a defective, dropped, or counterfeit product? They can't vouch for all their sellers.
Best Buy ALWAYS has what I need. That is exactly why it is still doing great. Plus, i've never met a single rude employee there. Plus, they'll price match anything so I am glad Best Buy is doing good.

The manager at Best Buy would not allow us to exchange our new TV. We had the receipt. We used to buy all of our cds and dvds there. We bought stereos, radios, tvs, dvd players, antenna s, Gift Cards, etc. And this manager lost our business, about 8 years ago. I told him that Best Buy was going to end up like Circuit City. That same month, i saw on the news that they were closing 50 stores. That explained it right there. If someone buys a tv, and it doesn't work, it's not a good idea to tell them that they will probably be Without a TV until they can ship it off for repairs! Why? Why when you have hundreds of tvs in your store, and you can give me a tv that is similar? But no, he said no because the only tv they had close to it had a screen 2" bigger. He acted like we were trying to get one over on him. Now, a store is supposed to exchange your item if you have a receipt. But after i talked to him about me working in customer service, management, customer satisfaction at all times....i finally walked out with a tv. It has many problems also, so i will Not be going back to Best Buy where i spent: my Christmas money for others, buying Gift Cards I spent my birthday money there. Tax refund money every Spring, i bought tons of dvds. So if that's how the managers are trained to treat their customers, i don't need the abuse! It was a terrible day.

BestBuy = A big rip off of your time. Took in a device for repair, was told I needed to make an appointment. Made the appointment, came in the following day at the appointment time, and then waited two hours to see someone. Everyone in line waiting was undergoing the same experience i.e. they made an appointment and then had to wait for an hour or more while the service representative went to the back and disappeared. I bought this HP laptop I'm posting on from Best Buy in Hurst, Texas. I briefly worked for Amazon in one of it's DFW warehouses. Management does not treat its workforce well. There is a high turnover rate. It's easy to hire on at Amazon, but difficult to stay hired. They seem to be more about numbers than anything else. If you don't make your hourly item process rate in your position where these metrics are programmed and tracked, your job is in jeopardy, and you will be terminated if you can't improve and catch up. Hopefully Best Buy appreciates its workforce, and treats them much better.
I think what makes Best Buy different and so special to me is the "interior design" of their buildings. It's like every time I walk in it makes me want to explore and look around even if it's looking at things I don't intend to buy. The way the aisles are situated and spaced out makes an impression. I truly believe that the ergonomics of Best Buy play a part in the subconscious mind which makes people want to shop there. This is something Amazon can't duplicate because you can't walk around there, touch or look at their products in person.
That depends. Sears and K-mart went down due to leadership sucking all the money out of the companies. Toys R Us was very solid until a hedge fund got a hold of it and sucked all the money out of it.

Just bought some Bluetooth earbuds from Best Buy, instead of Amazon. And I’ll keep going back. If you haven’t noticed Amazon sells a bunch of no-name Chinese (knockoff) products.
Amazon electronics are all junk.
It'll be their downfall.
I usually go to Costco for electronics. I don’t buy any electronics from Amazon.

Best Buy can’t die because you can order them online and pick them up or have it delivered to your home
Yeah it does LOL 😆
Millions of others shop at Amazon for this very reason
Another thing that hurts Best Buy is that Amazon is a one-stop shop. The are very few items or services that cannot be obtained from Amazon. Best Buy is electronics
And I thank you for it: yesterday I ordered a fitbit and it's already in my hands, and best buy's reviews helped me a lot to get the one I needed, they're reliable (unlike amazon's).

You know what is killing the retail stores?
High prices and poor customer service. Lack of management
Yup!!!
Nothing better than not having to talk to a person. Honestly I'd usually choose "no person" over "nice person."
Preach!
How did you spells customer correctly in your original comment but spelled it wrong in your reply?
A Best Buy store near me is faster than Amazon Prime.
Still don’t pay taxes to Amazon directly on a lot of products they sell. Plus a lot of the Amazon’s 3rd party sellers can undercut Amazon and BestBuy on prices. That’s what keeps me away from BestBuy now.

After it broke down again, the technician said he would contact the company because they no longer made a the computer board which we needed to replace. Sears was doomed long before Amazon. Walmart put the hurt on the stuffed shirts in Chicago.
Sadly, Sears is owned by a holding company that makes more selling off parts than operating as a retail outlet.

Reasons Best Buy will not fail :
1) diversified income - not from selling products but from rent received from multitude of vendors that set up mini stores/stalls/booths within the store:Apple, Samsung, lg, Sony and the list goes on. Rent collected whether they makes sales or not.
2) companies pay rent and premiums for shelf space and placement of product on specific location on shelf and in store.
3) best margins on Best Buy in house brands : insignia, dynex and geek squad
4) best in class warranty service and sales.
5) price matching anything shipped and sold by amazon
Etc etc.
I don't have to worry about commingled inventory and fakes at Best Buy.

Stephen Lang I wish we knew how you learned this insider information
@@MrDiscreet100 Well, he does say sucking twice in the comment...
@@MrDiscreet100 because that is the nature of the vampire squids.
You should hear and examine the CEO of Sears. Modern day legal thief. Screwed Sears so bad and sold off their assets to have himself buy out the company.
It's insane. Like I said CEOs are trash. Gut them and replace them with ai to save money. But the CEOs will never replace themselves. Because they are crooked.
When I buy electronics I want to see it and feel it before I buy it. That's why I love best buy
Best Buy is good because you can do in-store pickups. Amazon trucks are loaded outdoors in the elements, so I wouldn't recommend getting expensive electronics etc., from them, this being one of many reasons.
Best Buy is doing great now a days. Price matching, shipping etc is great. Same w/ Frys.
The Fry's electronics store in my area is almost dead. It was really sad last time I walked in there. Inventory was next to nothing.
I can’t be alone with feeling some kind of satisfaction when pulling up and entering a Best Buy....
I FEEL LIKE I'VE ARRIVED.
I worked at Best Buy in 2006 and 2007. The CEO at the time Brian Dunn may have been the biggest idiot on the planet and had no clue what he was doing.
he was doing a youn hottie
Andrew Machalek and you did ????
Do they ship product to country like India
@@sureshr7561 No. Their shipping is usually same city shipping with the store
They failed in China though
@@Timbone07 I went to some Facebook post. They told me that they r deal fro (dealers/suppliers) and they can ship to other countries. Is that true
These are truly scary times. Yes, Amazon is convenient but we still need to go out & interact with the world.
Best Buys just earned me buying a new TV 😎
keepitreal buy me a monitor on your way there 😩😩
the geek squad warranty has saved my butt many times on my laptop and camera purchases.
Remember when Amazon Killed Border's books by partnering up with the once small internet shop?
albear972 That was the same for Toys R Us.
Barnes and nobles still exist
@@gabrielpinto9458 yes and if you have a masters in Fine Arts you can get a job as a cashier at Barnes & Nobles..
@@gabrielpinto9458 the 2 Barnes and noble in my area just closed this year. Sad. Border been gone for some time ago.
morefreedomplease What? Lol
Besides that insanely expensive ethernet cable, Best buy is quite nice to be shopping at.
Hopefully Best Buy sticks around. I like both Amazon and Best Buy.
I love going to Best Buy. I've purchased ALL my camera gear and drone from Best Buy.
Best buy is a well run company. Their ability to adapt and change has kept them in the game.
They also get better when they remodel their stores. You also don’t need fo ask anyone for any help if you’re buying things like HDMI cables or the Amazon fire stick.
I love Best Buy because I love being able to go into a store and get expert help. It's one thing to research online, but it's completely another to go into a store and ask questions of employees who know what they're talking about. I spend a whole lot less time comparing and researching now, simply by being able to talk to an actual person and asking the questions that are important to me. That will never get old.
I love that they've become a retailer of all things electronic. Their dedicated brand displays are fantastic. I love the store more now than ever. Was just there today!
Guy at 13:00 is very serious about plugging things.
He also looks like the Angry Video Game Nerd.
Hahaha I was going to say that he did a good job
He wasn’t sure- I wasn’t sure- but that firm head nod put all my worries to bed.
He even did the head nod. He must be a fan.
hahhaha, image if he accidentally tried plugging in a cable upside down, his head would explode! ah ahha
What saved Best Buy for me was the price matching they do with amazon. I found some beats headsets on amazon for $110 on amazon and at Best Buy they were $199.. and Best Buy priced matched it for me which was awesome
Yes exactly. And Best Buy price matches after the sale as well. Try that with Amazon and let me know how it goes.
I used to work for best buy and all they ever talk about when they first hire you is how they didn't go under in 2012 and how the company values beat amazon
wow
I work at best buy and just started recently and they didn't say anything how it's better than amazon
I don't understand why you would wait a week (or a day if u have prime) to get something they can grab in under 20 minutes possibly for a lower price.
Eddie lampert looted Sears and Toys R Us was sabotaged. Not good examples.
YES. Lambert is a moron
I've gotten just burnt enough by Amazon that I'll be letting my membership go and being done with Amazon.
They are not as cheap as people think once you add in cost of membership.
They can be a big hassle. I think Amazon is going to only get worse.
I stopped buy Amazon because of the knocks off
Totally agree. I don't trust them anymore
I don't trust them either. Too many fakes reviews, counterfeit products, garbage products, and SO MUCH F***ING WAITING. If I want a game that came out super recently, I want it now and don't want to wait 2 weeks for delivery. At Best buy or Walmart or GameStop I can have the game within the hour and be playing it that day. With Amazon, you're waiting at a minimum 2 weeks to play a new game.
100% not only are their prices comparable, but they offer rewards, and the option to get your product immediately. BestBuy should be more worried about Walmart.
Panthers1521
And keep their debt as low as possible
Panthers1521 why Walmart?
@@JamButter123 Walmart has been stepping more and more into electronics. They sell more phones, tablets and computers than ever.
The Electronics section in Walmart is a huge joke ! And let’s not even talk about their customer service !!!
@@acoustic6865 except their employees know almost 0 about electronics.
I went there rude and hides clearance items. A total mess. I only go there if there is a clearance sale. A real one not a fake clearance
I just bought my series x from best buy. Best buy is an integral part of my video game journey throughout my 29 yr life.
